Chapter 6: Know Jie~
Xu Zhi’s footsteps paused slightly, and she turned back.
The arrogant and willful young lady stood beneath the streetlight, tall and graceful, with a slender figure.
She stood with her hands clasped behind her back, tilting her head slightly towards Xu Zhi.
The bright light of the streetlamp framed her fluffy, curly hair, the light gently diffusing, making her entire person seem to glow faintly.
Xu Zhi watched, patiently waiting for her to state her purpose for calling her back.
Qi Yaoyao hesitated for a long moment, but finally raised her hand and waved, “Never mind, it’s nothing! Bye-bye!”
Xu Zhi didn’t feel played. She simply raised an eyebrow slightly, turned around, and walked through the staff corridor into the bar.
Qi Yaoyao watched her figure slowly move away—spirited and decisive, without a single glance back. She felt a slight dissatisfaction in her heart, a gentle sense of loss.
The bodyguard beside her was nervous and fidgeting, looking at her swollen face. “Miss, let me take you home. Your facial injury needs immediate treatment. Are you hurt anywhere else?”
Qi Yaoyao: “No.”
Qi Yaoyao raised her hand to touch her face, hissed, and drew a sharp breath. Her eyes immediately flared with anger. “Help me remember. When they leave the police station later, find someone to beat them up again, severely!”
“Yes, Miss. Your face…”
“I won’t bother the family doctor,” Qi Yaoyao retracted her gaze, turned, and left. “Let’s go to the hospital to treat it.”
“Understood.”
Xu Zhi returned to the bar and joined the other servers in cleaning up the smashed venue.
As far as the eye could see, broken glass shards were everywhere, liquor flowed from shattered bottles, and chairs and tables were destroyed…
The boss was holding a notebook, recording the night’s losses, beating his chest and stomping his feet in anguish as he wrote. “What kind of karma have I incurred? How could it turn out like this!”
Zhao Chuchu was sweeping with a dustpan. She saw Xu Zhi immediately and quickly asked, “Know Jie, are you okay?”
Everyone else had been spectators, but Xu Zhi was right in the middle of the chaos. They were worried she might have been accidentally injured.
The boss heard this and rushed over to check on Xu Zhi. “Are you alright?”
Xu Zhi: “I’m fine, no injuries.”
“That’s good…” The boss sighed in relief. He then put his hands on his hips, encouraging the bar staff. “Everyone, work hard. Let’s aim to clean this up in the next couple of days!”
Xu Zhi couldn’t stay too late. At 8:30 PM, she informed the boss and left on time.
As soon as Xu Zhi left, the remaining cleaning staff couldn’t resist gossiping.
“Were those people tonight after Know Jie?”
“Know Jie has been here for two months. I’ve never seen her offend anyone. Why would she get involved with those gangsters?”
Zhao Chuchu lowered her eyes. Hearing this, she unconsciously tightened her grip on the broom.
She knew why… she had seen it.
The ever-silent Know Jie, who rarely spoke more than a few words to anyone, had spent a long time chatting with a very beautiful and sexy female customer tonight.
Later, the trouble seemed to be because that girl had offended someone.
Did Know Jie like that customer…?
Did Know Jie…
Like girls?
Zhao Chuchu quickly snapped back to attention, flustered, swept the trash into the dustpan, and moved to clean other areas.
Xu Zhi returned home a few minutes before 9 PM. She heated up her dinner and took a quick shower in her bedroom, changing into pajamas.
The sound of a key unlocking the door came from outside. Xu Zhi checked the time: 9:02 PM.
Her mother was on time today.
The bar was smashed and needed to close for a few days to replace equipment.
Xu Zhi felt she couldn’t continue working there, regardless of whether that yellow-haired man would bring people back to cause trouble in the future.
If she could find a suitable part-time job, she would quit the bar.
So, after school the next day, Xu Zhi rode her bicycle to the job posting board to look for work, carefully examining the requirements of various positions. If there was a match, she called.
First, she asked if the position was still available, then she introduced her own situation.
After making more than a dozen calls, none were suitable.
The sky gradually darkened.
Xu Zhi sighed, having no choice but to head home.
Xu Zhi’s day of campus life was over.
Meanwhile, at the Qi family residence, Qi Yaoyao hadn’t gone to school at all. Since her face hadn’t fully healed, she took a sick day. She turned down all calls from friends who wanted to visit and check on her, saying she needed to rest.
She said she needed to rest, but as soon as the sun set, Qi Yaoyao found an outfit in her walk-in closet, put on a mask and sunglasses, grabbed her bag, and went out.
She didn’t take the conspicuous supercar. She found a low-key, inconspicuous white private car in the garage.
The car finally parked in front of the Zhīyīn Bar.
The bar was closed today, with a notice hanging on the door.
Two lines of beautiful, strong handwriting, written with a black marker, stated: Temporarily closed, reopening in three days.
It was her handwriting…
Qi Yaoyao stood outside the bar, looking at the writing for a while. She suddenly noticed silhouettes moving inside the bar; it wasn’t empty.
She immediately leaned towards the window, raising her hand to block the light for a closer look.
—”Can I help you?”
Qi Yaoyao was startled and jumped back. Turning around, she was surprised to find that the person was the exact person she had come to find.
She looked at Xu Zhi.
In the setting sun, Xu Zhi was enveloped in a golden glow. Her eyes were calm, her lips thin, her features were refined and spirited, and her demeanor was unique.
She was wearing casual clothes today: a simple plaid shirt, tucked into her waistband, revealing a slender waist. Her legs looked long and straight under the jeans, and she wore a pair of slightly old but clean sneakers.
As the person turned, Xu Zhi recognized who this was.
But Xu Zhi’s attitude didn’t change. She said, “I apologize, we are closed today. Please come back in a few days.”
Seeing that she hadn’t been recognized, Qi Yaoyao immediately took off her sunglasses, smiling beautifully and winsomely. “Hi~ It’s me!”
Xu Zhi’s gaze first skimmed over the still-slightly-swollen side of her face, then met her eyes. Her clean, deep double eyelids and thick, distinct long lashes curved when she smiled, revealing a slight snaggletooth that lessened the air of haughty arrogance, making her look quite adorable.
She wasn’t wearing makeup today.
But she seemed even prettier without makeup.
Xu Zhi gave a neutral “mm” and then said, “Even if it’s you, we’re still closed.”
Qi Yaoyao snorted lightly and said, “I’m not here to drink today.”
Xu Zhi: “Then why?”
“I’m here to pay for the damages~!”
Qi Yaoyao was prepared. She took a bank card from her handbag and waved it in front of Xu Zhi, emphasizing deliberately, “This is my own pocket money I’ve saved up. I told you I wouldn’t cause you trouble. I’ll take responsibility for the trouble I caused myself.”
Xu Zhi glanced at the card, then looked at the young lady in front of her. “Do you know how much damage was caused last night?”
Qi Yaoyao put her hands behind her back and tilted her head, looking both refined and mischievous as she gazed at Xu Zhi. “How much?”
“I don’t know, but the boss said it’s around a six-figure sum, close to seven.”
“Oh.” Qi Yaoyao’s tone was light. “Then my card should have enough~”
Xu Zhi’s heart paused slightly. She thought, What a rich young lady. Her pocket money is in the seven figures.
Xu Zhi said, “Then you need to see the boss.”
Qi Yaoyao blinked those deep, captivating eyes and asked her, “Can you take me?”
Xu Zhi pursed her lips and looked away. “This way. Follow me.”
Qi Yaoyao put the card back in her bag, held the bag with both hands behind her back, and followed closely behind Xu Zhi with light steps, practically bouncing.
Xu Zhi brought Qi Yaoyao to the boss’s office, briefly explained her intentions, and then excused herself.
The door closed, and Qi Yaoyao looked back.
But Xu Zhi was already gone.
The boss quickly stood up and warmly welcomed Qi Yaoyao, inviting her to sit and have some tea.
“I won’t have the tea. I’m here to pay for the damages.”
“Pay for the damages?” The boss was momentarily confused, then quickly said, “No need, no need. Chairman Qi has already given me a blank check.”
Qi Yaoyao’s relaxed expression suddenly turned green, and her voice immediately heightened with tension. “What did you say??”
“Miss Qi.” The boss flattered, his face full of stacked, smiling fat that almost concealed his eyes. “I said your mother has already given me a check, allowing me to calculate the final total loss and fill it in myself.”
Qi Yaoyao confirmed she hadn’t misheard. She felt dizzy and stood up abruptly in panic. “How did my mom know about this? Did you tell her?!”
The boss panicked, hastily distancing himself. “No, no, of course not. If Chairman Qi’s assistant hadn’t contacted me, I wouldn’t have known you are the only daughter of Chairman Qi of the Junzhou Group. I didn’t recognize your stature and almost caused a huge disaster. I hope you weren’t too frightened at the bar last night?”
“Frightened?” Qi Yaoyao was exasperated. “I was terrified! You’re done for!!”
The boss was frantic. “Young Lady, what did I do? Please speak clearly…”
Qi Yaoyao was anxious and was about to lash out with a barrage of angry words, but she realized it was pointless to talk to him. Her mother must have been informed by the two bodyguards or perhaps the police station contacted her.
Qi Yaoyao pursed her lips, took a deep breath, and calmed down significantly. She looked at the boss and said, “Tell me, what is the name of the girl who brought me in just now?”
The boss was surprised. “Why are you asking about her?”
“She saved me last night. I want to reward her properly, but she is too modest to accept and refused to tell me her name.”
The boss heard it was a good thing and immediately smiled. “Oh, so that’s it. Her name is Know. She’s our bartender. Because her English name is a bit hard to call, everyone adds ‘Jie’ to it and usually calls her Know Jie.”
Qi Yaoyao’s eyes widened slightly, and then her eyebrows arched—Know?
So it wasn’t no?
That means she had told her her name last night, and she had just misunderstood?
Qi Yaoyao’s mood instantly cleared from a storm to sunshine, and she even began to hum a little tune.
The boss watched her, uncertain. “Young Lady?”
“It’s fine.” Qi Yaoyao waved her small handbag at him. “Since my mom gave you money, I won’t. I’m going to find Know Jie now~”
“Okay, okay.”
Qi Yaoyao walked out of the office, humming, and was respectfully and enthusiastically escorted to the main bar area by the boss.
A dozen people were still organizing the tables and chairs.
Qi Yaoyao spotted her target immediately. Her voice was bright and sweet, and quite triumphant, as she shouted to the tall girl who was helping lift a table in the distance: “Know Jie~!”
Xu Zhi’s footsteps paused, and she turned to look.
Zhao Chuchu, who was helping Xu Zhi lift the table, immediately also called out, “Know Jie.”
Xu Zhi hadn’t even fully located the source of the voice before retracting her gaze and continuing to move the table with the person next to her.
Seeing this, Qi Yaoyao stomped her foot in annoyance and walked over.
