My Wife Became a Top Star After I Came Back from Quick Transmigration - Chapter 26
At 4:30 AM, with the first light of dawn, Lin Mo was already awake. Unlike others, she didn’t linger in a daze after waking up.
Perhaps it was due to her experiences in various worlds, but Lin Mo rarely slept deeply.
It was different now that she was back. This world was meant for her to rest, so there was no danger. Most importantly, this world had Su Qixi.
Thinking of this, she turned her head to look at Su Qixi, who was still fast asleep. Her eyes were closed, her eyelids concealing their usual spark of life. She should… be okay, right?
Lin Mo reached out and gently touched her face. A warm sensation traveled from her fingers to her brain. Su Qixi’s long eyelashes fluttered, but her eyes remained tightly shut.
Lin Mo smiled faintly, but she said nothing. She got up to get ready. She didn’t plan on climbing back through the window; Su Qixi had been very angry about it yesterday.
To walk back through the hallway, she couldn’t look disheveled, or it would be hard to explain.
She sat down at the vanity to comb her hair, all the while watching Su Qixi on the bed, who was pretending to be asleep. Lin Mo held back a laugh, not wanting to give herself away.
In reality, when she had climbed over the night before, Lin Mo hadn’t been this optimistic.
Su Qixi’s strong reaction to the antiseptic incident was deeply connected to her past experiences. The domestic violence she suffered as a child and the bullying she endured in middle school had left her with severe psychological trauma.
In the later stages, like in that alley where Su Yong had beaten her so badly, it was because the trauma had made her numb and unresponsive. A crisis no longer caused a strong emotional reaction. Her appearance in Su Qixi’s life might have been fate, allowing her to slowly pull her out of that world.
But at first, it hadn’t been easy. When she first took Su Qixi in, she suppressed her emotions and thoughts towards the outside world. Even with Lin Mo, it wasn’t until she secured the restraining order that Su Qixi first tried to engage with the world.
Although by the end of senior year, Su Qixi’s behavior seemed no different from someone who had fully recovered, the doctors had said that some wounds last a lifetime.
These experiences could have ingrained themselves into her psyche, and at any time, especially when triggered, they could cause flashbacks to the bullying.
So, when Lin Mo understood the antiseptic incident, she knew that Su Qixi was having a relapse.
She was reliving her past bullying or domestic violence. Whatever it was, her illness had acted up. It had taken her six months to get back on her feet. Besides her agent, probably no one knew this.
Su Qixi was also extremely insecure about her past and was unwilling to expose it for pity.
Therefore, when she was pushed and hurt yesterday, Lin Mo’s first worry was that it would trigger Su Qixi.
Fortunately, the situation wasn’t that bad. She was probably just emotionally affected. Judging by her behavior from yesterday to today, she was stronger than Lin Mo had thought.
Lin Mo glanced at the time, stretched, and quietly left Su Qixi’s room.
It wasn’t until Lin Mo gently closed the door that Su Qixi opened her eyes. She reached up and touched the top of her head where Lin Mo had touched her. Her heart felt warm, and a slow smile spread across her face.
She took a deep breath. The past antiseptic incident had taken her six months to recover from.
But now, Lin Mo was here.
As long as she was here, she wouldn’t get sick.
Su Qixi turned over and quickly fell back into a deep sleep.
Unlike the other guests, all the ingredients had been washed and put away the day before.
Lin Mo needed to make pastries, which required more preparation time. To make her work easier, Lin Mo went back to her room and changed into a loose, dark t-shirt and work pants.
After a quick wash, she tied her short hair up to keep it from falling while making the cakes. Then, she quietly opened the door and went downstairs.
Everyone else was still asleep. Lin Mo kept her steps light.
When she got downstairs, she found Qiu Mingyi already there. He had pulled up a chair and was sitting by the door reading a book.
Lin Mo was slightly surprised. Before she could speak, Qiu Mingyi heard the sound and looked up. He put down his book and greeted her with a smile.
“You’re up early?”
Lin Mo was a sensitive person and could tell that Qiu Mingyi’s mood wasn’t very high today. But when he saw Lin Mo, he perked up and asked, “Did you and Qixi patch things up last night?”
Lin Mo smiled, dragging a chair over to sit next to him. “It’s not that simple, but at least she doesn’t reject me anymore.”
Qiu Mingyi raised an eyebrow. “You’re not even going to ask why I’m asking?”
Lin Mo looked at him with a smile. Although both of them knew what was going on, Lin Mo had always been good-natured. Since Qiu Mingyi had asked, she naturally asked, “Why?”
“Hahahahaha,” Qiu Mingyi laughed out loud. “You’re so interesting. Sometimes I envy you. After not seeing each other for eight years, you can still so naturally go back to her side.”
Lin Mo hummed and said, “So, with me as an example, what are you still worried about?”
Qiu Mingyi’s smile faltered, and he looked at Lin Mo in surprise.
Seeing that Lin Mo was still so composed and didn’t avoid his gaze at all, Qiu Mingyi was actually quite shocked. Lin Mo’s aura wasn’t weak at all.
After all, he had debuted early and was considered a veteran in the entertainment industry. Many times, others didn’t dare to say such things in front of him.
Regarding his situation with Zhuo Zitao, even their families could only say, You two need to think it through.
Yet Lin Mo could say something like this. Qiu Mingyi didn’t feel offended; he felt like he had found someone to vent to.
He looked at Lin Mo and said with a bitter smile, “The entertainment industry really isn’t suitable for marriage. I’m not home for most of the year. We’ve been married for so many years, and all of a sudden, she says there’s no more love.”
Lin Mo: “???” Wait, is this something you can talk to me about? I was just trying to comfort you, and now you’re really talking about it?
After saying a few things, Qiu Mingyi suddenly added in a miserable and desolate tone, “Her ‘first love’ is back. How am I supposed to compete? Back then, we only got together because we thought we were old enough. But she doesn’t know that for me, ‘getting together’ was my deepest wish!” His voice was filled with sorrow, and his eyes were dull.
Lin Mo was even more confused: “…” Wait, you can talk about this too?
Grief washed over Qiu Mingyi. After he finished, he even asked Lin Mo, “If it were you, what would you do?”
Lin Mo’s mouth twitched, but she still responded like a therapist. “It depends on how much you love her.”
Qiu Mingyi: “What do you mean?”
Lin Mo: “The more you’re willing to give up for her, the more you’ll dare to fight for her.”
She looked up at the sky. The dawn light had already illuminated the sky, and the flowers and plants in the yard were waking up from the night. The early morning wind was cool, and it scattered her fatigue.
She said softly, “If you’re willing to give up your life for her, a mere ‘first love’ won’t even matter.”
Qiu Mingyi was silent for a while. He then advised her, “Forced love is a theme in novels, but in reality, it’s a challenge to the law. Don’t do anything crazy!”
Lin Mo took a sharp breath. “Senior, I’m talking about mutual love, not being a pervert.”
Qiu Mingyi laughed again. “It’s good to be young! Mutual love!…” At this point, his expression turned lonely for a moment. Suddenly, he seemed to remember something, and his tone changed. He dragged his chair closer to Lin Mo, then blinked and whispered, “Last night… Tsk, you know.”
Lin Mo shook her head. “I don’t know.” Although she had guessed that she probably wouldn’t be able to escape Qiu Mingyi’s eyes yesterday, she didn’t expect him to be so direct and talk to her about this. Were they close enough to talk about this?
Qiu Mingyi seemed to think so. He even took out his phone and said to Lin Mo, “I know a website. I’ll share it with you.”
It seemed that her friendship with this senior had grown incredibly fast without her noticing. But Lin Mo didn’t want to talk about this with him. Her dear Xiao Xi hadn’t even agreed to anything yet!
So, Lin Mo got up and said politely, “I have to go make the cakes now.”
Qiu Mingyi saw her leave and called out from behind, “Don’t be shy! Do you know how to do it? This website of mine is very legitimate.”
Lin Mo smiled helplessly. She turned to look at Qiu Mingyi. “Senior, have some self-respect.”
Qiu Mingyi chuckled. “What self-respect? If you want to eat meat, you have to be brave.”
Lin Mo: “…Senior, you have to take it one step at a time.”
Qiu Mingyi burst out laughing and got up to follow her. “You can save the website first! You can learn now. Hey? Lin Mo, are your ears red? No way? You’re actually embarrassed? If you’re embarrassed, how are you two going to take it to the next level?”
Seeing Lin Mo walking with her head down towards the kitchen, Qiu Mingyi finally gave up. “What are you doing now? I’ll help you.”
She had originally thought that dealing with Qiu Mingyi was enough.
But before long, the others came down too.
Each one of them, with their own messy love lives, was now showing the true gossipy spirit of the Chinese people when it came to others’ relationships.
When Wu Qingqing came downstairs and saw Lin Mo, her first question was, “Did you go back to your room last night?”
Lin Mo smiled. “Did you see me come out of my room?”
Wu Qingqing, with dark circles under her eyes, said, “I was hiding in my room and secretly watching all morning. I saw you come out of her room.”
Lin Mo: “…Thank you for your hard work.”
Qi Yushan was also very excited coming downstairs. “In the middle of the night, you dared to go to Senior Su’s room, hehe… I think I’m seeing the real deal.”
Yun Yue, who was walking behind her, rolled her eyes. “You’re shipping this in the entertainment industry?”
Qi Yushan also rolled her eyes. “The real thing is what’s precious in the entertainment industry.”
Yun Yue turned to Lin Mo and asked, “Are you two for real?”
Lin Mo: “…” Is this amount of gossip enough for you all to become kings?
Jiang Lun was even more direct. When he first saw Lin Mo, he ran over with a smile and put his arm around Lin Mo’s shoulder. “Miss Pig, is it true that a short separation is better than a new marriage?”
Lin Mo: “…”
Jiang Lun: “Gah gah gah gah, teach me. How did you get into her room?”
Lin Mo was shocked. “Do you want to get reported to the police?”
Jiang Lun was unconvinced. “Aren’t you not afraid either?”
Lin Mo: “…I have the confidence. Do you?”
Jiang Lun gnashed his teeth and walked away, grumbling.
When Zhuo Zitao came down, she also had a knowing smile on her face when she saw Lin Mo.
“Do you need to discuss this with me? I’ve been there before.”
Lin Mo, who was making a cake, knew that arguing would only lead to more teasing. She could only look up at the ceiling in resignation.
Zhuo Zitao became even more smug. She leaned closer and said, “It’s only the second day of filming, and you’ve already gotten into her room. We still have half a month left!”
The others quickly chimed in, “That’s right, that’s right!”
Lin Mo gave a helpless smile. She looked at them and said, “You guys are too ridiculous. I’m not in the industry. You should be a little more distant with me.”
It was rare to see the calm Miss Pig being teased into silence. Everyone burst out laughing and, feeling satisfied, started to get their things ready.
Lin Mo lowered her head and continued to make the cakes. The first ones she made were tiramisu and cheesecake, as they needed to be chilled. After that, she started to prepare the cherry almond and Black Forest cakes, which could be served right after baking.
Seeing that Lin Mo was getting serious, they stopped joking around and began to prepare the things they needed for the morning.
Su Qixi hadn’t gotten up yet. Lin Mo glanced at the time, afraid of leaving a bad impression. She couldn’t help but say, “She might have overslept. I don’t have anything to do right now, so if you need anything, I’ll do it!”
Zhuo Zitao teased her, “You’re not in the industry, but we are. We can do it for her ourselves. How are you, an outsider, closer to her than us?”
Qi Yushan chuckled. “Yeah, yeah! Senior Su is my senior. If she’s not feeling well, I can take her place!”
Jiang Lun sighed. “An outsider cares more about someone in the industry than us. How are we, people in the industry, supposed to feel about that?”
A few of them gathered together, chattering away. Lin Mo laughed good-naturedly. She waited until they had their fill and then had to admit, “It was a mistake not to follow you guys out last night.”
Zhuo Zitao raised an eyebrow. “The outsider isn’t pretending anymore?”
Lin Mo then imitated Su Qixi and said, “Seniors, please have mercy.”
Zhuo Zitao laughed loudly. “Hahahaha, that’s what I’m telling you. The older the ginger, the spicier it is!!!”
Lin Mo obediently nodded. “Yes, I’ve learned my lesson, senior.”
Instantly, everyone burst into laughter.
Su Qixi, who had just come downstairs, saw the group of people surrounding Lin Mo and laughing. She quickly said, “What are you all doing?”
Everyone’s attention immediately turned to Su Qixi. “Are you worried about her?”
Su Qixi froze and stammered, “You, you, you, you, you, you…”
Everyone exchanged glances. Look, this is going to be broadcast live on camera.
Su Qixi had her long hair tied up today, which made her look very gentle. She had also changed into loose, comfortable clothes for work, but with her natural good looks, even simple clothes looked stylish. Although she had a natural makeup look on, she still looked very beautiful.
She didn’t expect to be caught off guard the moment she came downstairs. She said in a panic, “I’m not worried. Don’t talk nonsense.”
“Oh.” Zhuo Zitao turned to Lin Mo and said, “If you’re not worried, I’ll go and bully her. She’s just an outsider.”
“Huh?” Su Qixi was dumbfounded. She looked at Zhuo Zitao’s back and followed her a couple of steps. “Bully? Did she offend a senior? I’ll apologize for her!”
Zhuo Zitao laughed. “What’s your relationship with her that you can apologize?”
Su Qixi: “Me? I, I… I’m her classmate!”
Zhuo Zitao: “Just a classmate. Why are you blushing?”
Lin Mo sighed helplessly and came out of the kitchen. “Seniors, please have mercy!”
Zhuo Zitao then said excitedly, “Miss Pig has asked us to stop. We have to show her some respect!”
And so, the group happily ran off, laughing.
Su Qixi was left with a blank expression, not even understanding what had happened. Her mind was still muddled and not fully awake.
Lin Mo walked up to her, looked at her startled expression, and asked, “Is the live broadcast at 8 AM?”
Su Qixi nodded. “Yes.”
“There’s still 30 minutes.” With that, she hugged Su Qixi, leaned on her soft shoulders, and whispered, “Good morning, classmate.”
It was just like every morning in her numb world had been, but it was different now.
Now, they both had ulterior motives.
The sweet fragrance hit her instantly…
Su Qixi’s mind short-circuited again with a BANG!
[Yay, I got to watch early today. The broadcast started early.]
[I’m first, I’m first.]
[Uh… is this a broadcast benefit?]
[Ahhhhh, this is what I, a VIP, should be watching.]
[The ‘Kirin’ couple fans are having a grand festival!!!]
[The director’s intentions are so evil! But well done!!!!]
“Cough, the live broadcast was a half-hour early due to equipment failure during a debug.”
Feng Ye’s guilty voice came through the show’s loudspeaker.
Su Qixi: “…” Q_Q
Lin Mo: “…” Seriously, is he even a human?
