My Wife Became a Top Star After I Came Back from Quick Transmigration - Chapter 2
Lin Mo didn’t know what it was like for other people to be fans, but for her, it was an ordeal.
After buying the ticket, she found out that the recording wouldn’t start for a while, so she waited outside for two or three hours. The sun was scorching, making the pavement feel hot, and even the trees seemed listless. Fortunately, the building wasn’t in a remote location, so Lin Mo found a coffee shop to pass the time. She only came out when she saw people lining up to enter.
The queue was mostly filled with young girls, their excited chatter filling the air. Lin Mo stood out, and people couldn’t help but turn to look at her. She pulled her hat lower and followed the crowd inside.
The large lobby had several security gates, but her ticket was for a poor seat. Following the number on the paper ticket, she quickly found her spot. It was in the back and didn’t have a good view; she could only see the side of the stage. But Lin Mo thought that was just fine. She sat down and closed her eyes to rest. After she sat down, she heard the people next to her chatting, and she learned that the recording wouldn’t start for at least another half an hour.
Lin Mo sighed. It must be tough for these young fans.
After a while, the noise in the venue slowly started to die down. Lin Mo opened her eyes. The host had taken the stage, and the main lights in the audience area had been turned off, making it difficult to see clearly.
Lin Mo didn’t know much about the entertainment industry. She had only done a little research after she came back. The conversation with the girls next to her had already taught her a lot. She learned that the variety show Su Qixi was on was a mix of interviews and games. The host would ask questions during the games, and Su Qixi and her cast members would promote their new movie.
Because of Su Qixi’s popularity and her new work, most of the audience members were her fans. They screamed excitedly when Su Qixi came on stage. Even though Lin Mo was in a bad seat and couldn’t see the stage, she heard the fans around her screaming until their voices were hoarse.
Lin Mo just watched silently.
After two rounds of games, Su Qixi was a little out of breath. The host let the two teams rest, transitioning from a high-energy game to a more static one.
The host said, “Your managers just met with our staff and gave us your phones.”
Laughter and screams erupted from the audience like crashing waves. The celebrity guests looked grim. They didn’t tell us this would happen before the show! The cameras captured their expressions and broadcast them on the big screen, making the fans laugh even harder.
The host continued, “Now, we’re going to play a little game.”
A little game?
Everyone looked at the host with suspicion. Is this for real?
The host grinned slyly. “Yes, a little game. We’re going to dial the last number in your contact list…”
Guest 1: “Huh? Who’s the last person in my contacts?” Guest 2: “I can’t remember either.”
Most of the guests were clueless. They might remember the first person, but the last one was a complete mystery, making them even more nervous.
Su Qixi, on the other hand, felt a sense of relief. She knew exactly who the last person in her contacts was. She was also sure the number was disconnected.
The host said, “Once the call connects, our guests need to read a sentence from the screen. Please look at the big screen.”
A chorus of laughter and screams erupted. Since this was a live broadcast, there was no way to edit it out! The screen displayed various embarrassing phrases, from “I’ve had a crush on you for years” to “Can I borrow 20 million? I’m in debt.”
The guests hunched over, covering their faces as the show’s staff dialed the numbers. The sounds were broadcast over the venue’s speakers. Of course, the show staff didn’t go too far. The host kept the conversation moving smoothly, regardless of the other party’s response, showing his skill.
Finally, it was Su Qixi’s turn. The host smiled, holding a small card. “Our film queen is special. The last person in her contacts is labeled…” The host looked up at the big screen, and the audience followed.
— Pig.
“Hahahaha!” “Who is it?! Xi Xi is so cute!” “If the call connects, won’t they know Xi Xi saved their name as ‘Pig’?”
Even though Lin Mo couldn’t see the screen or Su Qixi’s expression on the distant stage, she couldn’t help but laugh. I wonder who she saved as “Pig.”
The host was also curious and asked Su Qixi with the microphone, “Is your relationship with them really good? Or really bad?”
Su Qixi looked at the number on the screen. She knew it by heart. “We’re not close,” she said.
But the host was too sharp to believe her. He pressed on. “Now we’re going to call this ‘Pig’… Mr. or Ms. Pig? Xi Xi, are you nervous?”
Su Qixi gave a smug smile. “The number is disconnected, so feel free.”
“Hahaha, she’s so cute!” “Xi Xi, mommy loves you!” “Oh, her gaze is killing me!”
Lin Mo, who couldn’t see anything, sighed. I should have bought a front-row ticket.
The host immediately seized on the loophole in her words. “The number is disconnected, but you still have it saved? Your relationship isn’t simple, Xi Xi.”
Su Qixi paused and said stubbornly, “I just forgot to delete it.”
With a special name and the number still saved, most people instantly realized something was going on, except for the fans who were too captivated by Su Qixi’s beauty.
Down in the audience, Xiong Jingjing frowned. She had never heard Su Qixi mention this person before. This is a major oversight!
The host didn’t say any more. He excitedly announced into the microphone, “Alright, let’s call our Pig friend. Please look at the big screen.”
The big screen displayed a line of text: I miss you so much!
Su Qixi’s eyes widened, and her hands trembled slightly. The call connected after two seconds. In that instant, everyone, including the host, was stunned. Didn’t she say the number was disconnected? Su Qixi’s mind went blank. After eight years, the call had gone through.
Lin Mo felt her phone vibrate. She took it out and saw an unfamiliar number. Frowning, she looked at the stage and then back at her phone. The fans around her all turned to look at her, then nervously craned their necks to see the stage.
The host shushed everyone, smiling. “Let’s be quiet.”
Lin Mo’s phone ringing was jarring in the silence. Without thinking, she answered. At the same time, the big screen showed that the “Pig’s” phone had connected.
On stage, Su Qixi panicked and took a step back. Her expression, normally so well-controlled, became a mix of surprise and fear. She opened her mouth but found no sound would come out. Is it her? Is it really her?
The host kept motioning to her, pointing at the big screen. Su Qixi’s mind was in a complete mess. She couldn’t think straight.
“Xiao Xi?” Lin Mo spoke first, her voice echoing through the speakers. It was gentle and soft, just like every time she had called her name years ago.
Su Qixi felt a wave of emotions surge through her. Lin Mo’s voice was so familiar it was impossible to tell if it was coming from the speakers or from a distant memory. She remembered so many moments: being carried back from a trash heap, the sight of Lin Mo cooking in the morning, their fight with her father, their shared walks home after class… “Xiao Xi.” “Xiao Xi.” The memories and calls flooded her mind.
Su Qixi had no idea what to do. When she saw the host pointing at the screen, her mind, unable to process anything else, stiffened. A choked sob escaped her as she said, “I miss you so much!”
The same words were transmitted through the phone to Lin Mo. Her heart ached. She looked at Su Qixi on stage. This is just for the show, right? Lin Mo sighed, a soft laugh
