My Wife Became a Top Star After I Came Back from Quick Transmigration - Chapter 108
In the end, Su Qixi and Lin Mo flew together. The reason was Lin Mo’s recent surge in popularity. Not only was she popular, but her image as a devoted partner was unshakable. Besides Su Qixi’s solo fans and their couple fans, a small group of anti-fans and casual onlookers had started to feel that Su Qixi was… unworthy.
So, one day, as Lin Mo and Su Qixi were shopping in a supermarket, a wealthy woman blocked their path. The woman was dressed in a custom outfit and had an exceptional air about her. She didn’t even look at Su Qixi, but instead gave Lin Mo a meaningful look.
She chuckled softly. “Your taste isn’t very good, is it?”
Su Qixi: “???” An all-out attack right to my face?
Lin Mo: “…”
The woman asked, “What about me?”
Su Qixi: “??????” Am I invisible?
The woman was beautiful and elegant. From her clothes, demeanor, and attitude, she was clearly from a distinguished family. Su Qixi was completely stunned by this unexpected confrontation. She wanted to fight back but was so taken aback that she didn’t know how to respond.
Lin Mo chuckled softly and patted the woman’s shoulder with the air of an elder speaking to a junior. “You must be Cao Rou, right?”
The woman, Cao Rou, was momentarily stunned, looking at Lin Mo in shock. She thought to herself, How does she know my name? I haven’t even introduced myself yet. She must really like my type. But if she gives up on Su Qixi so easily, she’s not as attractive to me anymore.
While Cao Rou was lost in her thoughts, Su Qixi was also looking at Lin Mo in shock.
Lin Mo continued with a smile, “I just met your dad a couple of days ago and we signed a contract. He showed me a photo of you and insisted his daughter was beautiful. Now I see that you’re much prettier than in the photo. We should all go out for a meal sometime.”
Cao Rou: “???”
Su Qixi: “???”
Lin Mo turned her head to Su Qixi with a smile. “Her dad and I are now like brothers. So, that makes her your niece! You two should look out for each other.”
Cao Rou: “Huh?”
Su Qixi: “Huh?”
The situation was resolved smoothly by Lin Mo’s clever handling. But it taught Su Qixi a valuable lesson: Lin Mo was no longer just the most beautiful girl in school. She was a national treasure.
Feeling a sense of crisis, Su Qixi decided to go with Lin Mo to Beijing to see Qi Yoshan. She had a strong suspicion that Cao Rou was neither the first nor would be the last.
After they were seated in first class, Lin Mo was still laughing about Su Qixi’s decision. Su Qixi felt embarrassed and just glared at her. With her big, expressive eyes, her glare had no power; it looked more like a pout. Lin Mo found her expression both cute and alluring, utterly captivating. But as someone who had traveled between many worlds, her resolve was not easily shaken.
She couldn’t help but tease Su Qixi. “My dear, it’s just a short trip to Beijing. I won’t get seduced that easily. You’re the one surrounded by so many temptations; I should be the one worrying.”
Su Qixi said proudly, “That’s different. I know I am absolutely faithful.”
“Oh, really?” Lin Mo nodded, leaning in close to her ear. “You doubt my faithfulness? But you were shouting ‘Lin Mo loves Su Qixi the most’ last night, so I thought you had already confirmed my sincerity.”
Su Qixi’s face turned red from head to toe. What is this vulgar talk? She was so embarrassed that Lin Mo was talking about this on the plane. She pushed Lin Mo away in annoyance. “Shut up!”
Lin Mo rubbed her chin, thinking that she finally understood why people loved to tease their partners. For the person you love, every emotion they express, whether it’s greed, anger, foolishness, or resentment, is captivating.
Lin Mo obediently fell silent. But Su Qixi couldn’t help but ask, “You’re really not tempted, are you?”
That was quite a question. Lin Mo reached out and ruffled her hair. “You’ll come with me to see Qi Yoshan. I want you there.”
Su Qixi tilted her head. “Why?”
Lin Mo smiled. “To show you how rare it is to have your wishes fulfilled.”
Su Qixi looked at her with wide, bewildered eyes, but she didn’t ask any more questions. She knew Lin Mo wasn’t tempted; her own insecurity was the problem. Whether in high school or now, she had always been the one with low self-esteem. Insecurity could ruin a relationship.
The Unveiling
Qi Yoshan was in a hospital in the heart of Beijing. Lin Mo followed the address Qi Yoshan had given her. The hospital was a large one, with a constant stream of people coming and going. In addition to locals, many patients from other cities came here looking for a last hope. The hospital was nationally renowned for one department: Cancer.
Therefore, patients from all over the country came here every day, hoping to survive. Although Lin Mo and Su Qixi were incredibly famous, the patients in this hospital were facing death. Even if someone recognized them, they would just crane their necks to look before sadly hurrying on their way.
Qi Yoshan hadn’t committed a heinous crime, so there were no police guards at her room door. When they pushed the door open, they saw someone in another bed being helped by a family member to get ready for a meal.
Qi Yoshan was wearing a hospital gown, sleeping soundly on her bed. The hospital’s heating was so strong that she had even exposed her belly. But the exposed skin showed that she was skin and bones. It had only been a few months since they last saw her. A thermos was on her bedside table, and a brown bag was on the floor, indicating someone was taking care of her.
Lin Mo looked at her sleeping without a care in the world and was speechless. Su Qixi stood beside Lin Mo, peeking her head in curiously. This was the first time Su Qixi had seen Qi Yoshan since the show ended. She had heard Lin Mo mention her several times and knew that they had met in private. But each time, Qi Yoshan had seemed to deliberately avoid other people. Su Qixi wondered how she had managed to find Lin Mo so many times with her body in this state. And why was she looking for Lin Mo?
Lin Mo walked into the room and stood at Qi Yoshan’s bedside. The sleeping Qi Yoshan seemed to sense her presence and suddenly opened her eyes. They were bright and clear, with an intensity they hadn’t had before. The look made Su Qixi flinch, thinking it was a little like Lin Mo’s old gaze. The difference was that Lin Mo would hide her intensity behind a gentle facade, while Qi Yoshan was still unable to, which gave her a ruthless sharpness.
“Lin Mo?” Qi Yoshan came to her senses, propping herself up on the bed. She smiled. “Why didn’t you call first?”
She must have been very sick. Her cheeks were sunken, and there were dark circles under her eyes, as if she hadn’t slept in days. Her skin had lost its luster, and her lips were pale, making her look incredibly weak. Yet, her eyes were bright. She seemed completely unconcerned about her body and didn’t fear death.
When she saw Su Qixi, Qi Yoshan was startled. “You brought her too?” she asked Lin Mo.
Lin Mo smiled. “She’s my wife.”
Qi Yoshan: “…Right. When’s the wedding?”
Lin Mo: “To be determined.”
Su Qixi just smiled and greeted Qi Yoshan. “It’s been a long time.”
Qi Yoshan chuckled. “It has been. This is the first time I’ve seen you since I left the show.”
Su Qixi was about to nod, but then her mind went blank. She looked at Lin Mo and then back at Qi Yoshan in surprise. “First time? With Lin Mo too?”
Qi Yoshan nodded, confused. “What’s so strange about that? I was taken away after leaving the show and have been in a detention center ever since. I was released on medical parole because I have severe, late-stage lung cancer. I applied to get treatment at this hospital. After that, I couldn’t leave Beijing and had to live under the supervision of the Beijing police. If I leave Beijing, I have to go back in.”
Su Qixi: “…” That makes sense. She and Lin Mo were always together when they were in Beijing and never had a chance to see Qi Yoshan.
The other two patients in the room with Qi Yoshan seemed to know all about her story. They didn’t show any curiosity when they heard her. Only the older woman in the next bed laughed and said, “Oh, I was so shocked the first time I heard she was a criminal. She looks just like us!”
Qi Yoshan turned to her. “I did commit a crime.”
The woman shook her head. “I don’t understand that stuff. I don’t get it.” She went back to adjusting her husband’s bed. “I think you’re a good person.”
Su Qixi looked at the older woman, who explained, “My husband has liver cancer. Our children are unfilial and won’t pay for his treatment. Little Qi gave us money for it. Once I sell our house, I’ll pay her back.”
Su Qixi turned to Qi Yoshan. “You have money?”
Qi Yoshan laughed. “My company was restructured, and the new boss was willing to pay for my treatment and gave me a big sum of money to spend however I want before I die. My cancer has already spread, so it can’t be cured. I don’t know what to do with the money. Hospital beds are in short supply, and there are no VIP rooms. The people I live with shouldn’t have to cry about medical bills every day.”
The older woman laughed. “Little Qi is always joking. I heard from Sister Liu that you thought my old man’s liver cancer had a good chance of being cured and that it would be a shame not to treat it…” As she spoke, the woman started crying. She turned to Lin Mo and said, “Our kids are afraid it’ll relapse and the money will be wasted, so they won’t pay for his treatment. But Little Qi gave us money. I don’t know how that girl can be so foolish. Besides Sister Liu and her family, you two are the only ones who have come to see her since she was hospitalized. She’s really a good person. You two should visit her more often.”
In the other bed was a young couple. The wife had lung cancer. Her family was very poor, and they had only managed to borrow 18,000 from their entire village. When the hospital found out that Qi Yoshan had paid for the elderly couple, they arranged for this young couple to be in Qi Yoshan’s room as well. The couple was honest and hardworking, and they didn’t understand how they were admitted to the hospital when they had no money. Later, the woman in bed 37 asked them, “Why are you crying? No money? How much do you need?”
In this room, there was an elderly couple abandoned by their children and a young, destitute couple. With Qi Yoshan’s help, they had both undergone successful surgeries. The doctors said the chances of a complete cure were high and told them to come back for regular check-ups. Because of these acts of kindness, Qi Yoshan was treated with great respect in the hospital. Black-hatters somehow found out where she was and tried to cause trouble. But the doctors and nurses chased them out, yelling, “This is a hospital, not a fan circle! Don’t bring your fandom nonsense here. Get out!”
Hearing the old woman’s words, Qi Yoshan laughed loudly. “That felt so good.”
Su Qixi: “…”
“Benefactor?” a young woman’s voice suddenly came from the doorway.
Lin Mo turned her head, as if she had expected this, and smiled. “Long time no see, Madam Liu.”
Liu Fen ran in and tried to kneel, but Lin Mo quickly pulled her up. Liu Fen cried, “Benefactor, when you were being bullied online, we… we believed in you! My whole family went online to defend you, but we were just… small potatoes.”
Lin Mo laughed. “I know. I saw it. Madam Liu, your righteousness is clear to me. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be seeing you here.”
Liu Fen was startled, then realized. “Oh, you must not say that, benefactors! You saved my daughter’s life. You saved my entire family. Benefactor Qi is sick and has no one to care for her. It’s our family’s duty to help.”
Qi Yoshan covered her face. “I told you to just call me by my name! And who is this other benefactor now?”
Liu Fen said matter-of-factly, “That’s Benefactor Lin!”
Lin Mo: “…”
