My Wife Became a Top Star After I Came Back from Quick Transmigration - Chapter 1
The Return
The setting sun painted the sky crimson, its golden-edged light hanging low over the mountains. The last rays of twilight streamed through the worn classroom window, blanketing the empty room in a gentle glow.
The students had long gone. Three years of seeing the same view every day was not enough to make them stay. With the college entrance exams over, the classroom felt desolate and lonely. Only one girl remained, slumped over a desk by the window. Her long, dark hair was tied in a ponytail, with a few stray strands dancing in the wind.
Su Qixi held her breath and quietly moved to the desk in front of the girl. Her gaze softened as she watched her, propping her chin on her hand and staring for a long time.
Three years. For three years, she and Lin Mo had depended on each other.
Falling in love with Lin Mo felt as natural as breathing. Lin Mo was beautiful and had a gentle, kind nature. She always smiled and stroked Su Qixi’s head, telling her there was nothing to be afraid of. She was the one light in Su Qixi’s life, a sun that allowed her to come alive and flourish after a long, lonely existence.
Su Qixi traced an imaginary outline on Lin Mo’s face. Three years of memories flashed through her mind. The bittersweet feelings of a youthful crush were coming to an end. She didn’t want their relationship to end, but she longed for something more.
“Lin Mo,” Su Qixi whispered.
Lin Mo’s eyelashes fluttered, and she slowly opened her eyes. Her light-colored eyes reflected the fiery glow of the sunset outside the window. She sat up slowly, her right cheek still red from where she had been resting on it, but she didn’t seem to notice. She just looked at Su Qixi with a blank expression.
For a long time, Su Qixi had woken her up like this, and with a smile, she would say, “Time to go home.”
So, Lin Mo waited for her words.
“I love you, Lin Mo.”
Unlike any other time, Su Qixi chose the day the college entrance exams ended to finally confess her feelings.
Without surprise or shock, Lin Mo simply stared at her in silence. After a long pause, she parted her lips and softly replied, “I’m sorry.”
Outside, the summer wind howled loudly. Su Qixi’s smile froze. Trying to maintain her composure, she was terrified that this “I’m sorry” would ruin their three years of friendship. Despite the pain of rejection, she kept smiling. “It’s okay, we can still be…”
“Xiao Xi,” Lin Mo interrupted, her eyes fixed on her. In that moment, the world seemed to fall silent, and a sense of panic instantly seized Su Qixi.
“We can’t be friends again,” Lin Mo’s voice drifted to her from a distance, and Su Qixi’s heart sank.
A crush should never be exposed to the light. At this moment, she understood that with a painful clarity.
What would a plant that depends on the sun do if it had to grow all alone?
“The road ahead is long. Please take care, Xiao Xi.”
The summer wind blew through the trees on the sports field, the rustling sound scattering the final sigh.
Why?
“We’re here, Xiao Xi,” Xiong Jingjing said, turning to Su Qixi. “This is a live broadcast, so please be careful.”
Su Qixi opened her eyes, looking disoriented, as if she hadn’t fully woken from her dream. Seeing Xiong Jingjing’s face, she slowly remembered that she was no longer an 18-year-old girl. The college entrance exams were far behind her, and she hadn’t seen the person from her dream in years.
“You were asleep?” Xiong Jingjing frowned, looking at her dazed eyes with concern. “Are you okay?”
Su Qixi shook her head. She glanced at the flashing camera lights outside the car and said softly, “I had a dream just now. I dreamt of a classmate I haven’t seen in a long time.”
Xiong Jingjing was startled. “Is it because of the class reunion?” she asked with a smile.
A few days ago, Su Qixi had received an invitation to her high school reunion. As a popular celebrity, it would be difficult for her to attend. But for some reason, Su Qixi held the invitation in silence for a long time before finally saying, “I’ll go.”
Xiong Jingjing knew a little about Su Qixi’s high school life, though not in great detail. The situation had been widely publicized online. Xiong Jingjing had asked a few questions and learned about Su Qixi’s bizarre parents. Luckily, someone had released evidence showing that Su Qixi’s father had sold her after she finished her exams. Public opinion had quickly turned in her favor, earning her a wave of sympathy from the public and her fan base grew.
With a father like that, how could her high school life have been good?
Hearing the words “class reunion,” Su Qixi finally relaxed and smiled. “Yeah, it must be because of the reunion. That’s why I had that dream.”
The answer she had been seeking for eight years had never left her.
“Xi Xi, Xi Xi!!”
“Xi Xi, I love you!!!”
“Ahhhhhhh!!! Xi Xi, look at me!!”
The moment the car door opened, the fans screamed with excitement. The assistant cautiously held back the crowd as Su Qixi stepped out of the car. She looked around and smiled at her fans. Amidst the cheers, she walked toward the building. She was wearing a tight brown top and a skirt with glitter, which made her naturally stunning features look even more elegant. Protected by the bodyguards the show had provided, Su Qixi entered the building, disappearing from sight.
Outside the crowd, a woman wearing a black t-shirt and black sweatpants lowered her hat and sighed. “You’ve become prettier.”
The crowd of fans began to disperse now that their idol was gone. A girl with a bob haircut turned around and accidentally bumped into Lin Mo, immediately bowing her head to apologize. “I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry.”
“It’s alright.”
Hearing the voice, the girl with the bob looked up at the person she had bumped into. She was stunned by how beautiful the woman was. Her light-colored eyes held a faint smile, and her delicate features gave her a refined, distant air. Seeing the girl’s stunned expression, the woman smiled again. “It’s really okay.”
The girl apologized again and then asked, “Are you also a fan of Xi Xi?”
Lin Mo tilted her head, thought for a moment, and smiled. “I guess so.”
The girl immediately felt a surge of pride. See? Even a beautiful woman like her is a fan of our Xi Xi! She was very friendly. “Are you going to the recording?”
Lin Mo looked around, suddenly realizing something. “Can you still get in?” She had only found out that Su Qixi would be here today and knew nothing about fandom events.
“Of course,” the girl replied. “Don’t you know? Do you not have a ticket?”
Sometimes, you don’t need a ticket for show recordings, and some shows even pay audience members to come. But Su Qixi had just won a major award, and her new movie was about to be released, so her popularity was at an all-time high. The show staff had decided to sell tickets.
Lin Mo awkwardly touched her chin. “Then… how do I buy one?”
The girl looked around and pointed to a man. “You can only buy one from a scalper now, but they’re very, very expensive.”
Lin Mo looked in the direction the girl was pointing. She saw a man in a white t-shirt talking to a fan, seemingly selling tickets. Lin Mo thanked the girl and walked toward the man. The man was dressed discreetly, and he had a bunch of paper tickets in his bag. When he saw Lin Mo, he was clearly surprised.
He’d been selling tickets for a long time and knew that fans were usually young students. Most people who had jobs would gradually shift their focus away from idol chasing. Even if they wanted to, they didn’t have the time or energy. While he did sell tickets to working professionals, it was rare to see someone as beautiful as Lin Mo.
“I heard you have tickets?” Lin Mo’s voice was gentle and pleasant, like a cool breeze.
The scalper smiled, confirming she was here to buy a ticket. “You’re in luck. I have a front-row ticket. The show is about to start. I’ll sell it to you for 4,500. I’ll even round down the price.”
Lin Mo: “How much is a back-row seat?”
The scalper paused, but he was a professional. He knew how to deal with different customers. Lowering the price a bit, he smiled. “Yes, I have those, too. Two rows back is 2,800.”
Lin Mo: “What about the very back?”
The scalper looked her up and down. She didn’t look like she was short on money. He lowered the price again. “The second-to-last row is 1,200.”
Lin Mo nodded and took out her phone. “Where do I scan?”
The scalper: “…” She’s actually broke? How can someone this poor be a fan? That’s really something.
