My Weekend Lover Turned Out To Be My Boss - Chapter 84
Chapter 84: Awakening. “Living”
When I opened my eyes again, I was propped up on a spacious double bed. The combination of a hangover and a splitting headache was enough to make one weep. I scanned the room; it was unfamiliar and massive, with a private balcony. Looking through the sliding glass doors, I could see a faint view of the sea.
My body felt stiff and uncomfortable, likely from the way I had slept. When I tried to shift my weight, I realized my left hand was tied to the headboard. I tried to move my arm, but my hand was already numb from being bound all night.
Memories of Qiao Xin taking me away last night flickered through my mind. Suppressing the headache, I used my right hand to try and untie the knot, only to find it was a sophisticated hitch—the more I struggled, the tighter it gripped.
“Don’t waste your energy. You’ll ruin your hand.”
Qiao Xin walked in carrying a tray of food—breakfast, apparently. I stared at her blankly, the lingering alcohol making me sluggish. “What do you want… Where is Guan Shuyun?”
She didn’t answer. Instead, she placed the tray on the nightstand, pulled up a stool, and sat by the bed. She fished a small glass vial from her pocket, twisted the cap, and smoothly shook some powder into the milk. The entire sequence was practiced and chillingly calm.
My eyes widened as I stared at the drugged milk. “What… what did you put in there?”
“You really think Guan Shuyun is your savior? She’s not coming. Just be a good girl and drink this.”
She stirred it a few times with a spoon and brought it to my lips. “Don’t worry,” she added in that same unhurried tone. “It’ll just help you sleep. It won’t kill you.”
I turned my head away, struggling again. “Qiao Xin, you’re insane! Kidnapping me, drugging me… I can sue you!”
Seeing my panic seemed to delight her; her eyes crinkled with pleasure. “Oh, so the capable You Feifan actually knows how to be afraid? I know exactly what I’m doing. Go ahead, sue me right now!”
Her smile vanished instantly. She darkened her expression and called out toward the door, “Come in… make sure she drinks the milk.”
Two bodyguards entered. One forced my head straight and pried my jaw open while pinning my arm down. The other began pouring the milk down my throat. I thrashed, spitting out most of it, but I swallowed several mouthfuls. The choking sensation was horrific; I coughed violently as Qiao Xin stood by, admiring the wreckage.
“You Feifan, what is your true purpose for getting close to Guan Shuyun? Tell the truth, and I won’t cross the line. But if you play me… well, that drug will make you sleep for a long time. I can’t guarantee your safety then. I have several tall, strong men here… you understand what I mean by ‘play,’ don’t you?”
I gasped, my heart hammering against my ribs. “I didn’t realize you were this disgusting!”
The drug acted fast. My right hand, which had been shielding my chest, went limp and slid away. My whole body turned to lead. Qiao Xin stepped closer. “Talk or not?”
I had to yield. I came up with a desperate excuse. “What ‘purpose’ could I have? Lan Feiyi and I are enemies… I have nowhere else to go but Guan Shuyun… if you want answers… ask her yourself…”
“Do you think I’d believe such a hollow explanation? We are enemies too, yet you choose to seek refuge with your foe. It’s suspicious no matter how you look at it. It seems you won’t speak the truth until I give you a real taste of the consequences…”
Qiao Xin waved her hand at the men. My eyelids felt like lead weights. I saw one of the men take off his suit jacket and loosen his tie as he approached the bed.
She laughed maniacally. “I heard you only like women. Today, let’s see if you enjoy a man for a change. Maybe you’ll lose interest in women altogether~ I’ll take some photos and videos as a memento. Won’t that be nice?”
The world can be bottomless in its filth. My heart was in my throat, but I couldn’t even clench a fist. Some things drive people to madness; love and hate are two sides of that coin. I’ve called myself a mad dog, but in the end, I’m just a human fighting fate. I’ve survived agony before.
But if this happened… I’d be finished. Just as I prepared to accept my fate, someone burst into the room. They charged straight at Qiao Xin and delivered a slap so loud it echoed. “Did I not tell you not to touch You Feifan!”
It was the first time I’d seen Guan Shuyun truly lose her temper. The “Smiling Tiger” looked quite graceful when she was hitting someone. Qiao Xin’s head snapped to the side as she clutched her face. Anyone would find such a public humiliation unbearable, yet she was forced to swallow her rage, growling, “You hit me for this outsider?”
Guan Shuyun regained her composure but remained scathing. “Kidnapping, false imprisonment, attempted rape… Qiao Xin, I really underestimated how ‘daring’ you are! Do not cause me trouble. This isn’t France!”
Having the upper hand, Guan Shuyun sent Qiao Xin into a silent fury. The latter stormed out, slamming the door. Guan Shuyun turned to the two disheveled bodyguards. “What are you staring at? Untie her!”
The farce ended. Only Guan Shuyun and I remained. Knowing I couldn’t move, she leaned against the headboard and began rubbing my temples. She looked at the vial on the table and the mess on the bed, frowning. “Did you drink much of it?”
“About half a cup…” I managed weakly.
She adjusted the covers around me. “Sleep it off. You’ll be fine… I’m here. Don’t worry.”
“How did you know I was here?”
“We’ll talk later,” she replied coldly.
“Thank you.”
I curled up against her leg. In that moment, the fear was real. Guan Shuyun seemed to sense it; her fingers tapped a rhythmic beat on the duvet, like a mother soothing a child. I closed my eyes with a sigh. Don’t be this good to me; I’ll go soft-hearted.
…
When I woke up again, it was dark. I bolted upright, struggling out of a nightmare. My head throbbed. Guan Shuyun was still there. I looked at her, dazed. “You’ve been sitting here all day?”
“What do you think?” she retorted, her sharp tongue returning. “You slept like a pig. You could have been slaughtered and never known. Get up. Come to the living room. It’s time to put everything on the table.”
I knew it wouldn’t be that simple. I followed her downstairs. From a distance, I saw Qiao Xin sitting with her arms crossed, looking like she wanted to devour someone. As we approached, she shifted her stance and raised an eyebrow. “You’ve wasted the whole day. Let’s not waste any more time.”
Qiao Xin clearly wasn’t going to let me off easy. Guan Shuyun pulled several photos from her bag and slapped them onto the coffee table. “If you hadn’t been caught on camera, I wouldn’t have found you today.”
I leaned over to look. They were photos of Qiao Xin taking me away the night before. Qiao Xin picked one up, then turned her gaze to me, waving the photo. “How do you explain this?”
I was genuinely confused. “How should I know? I’m the victim here!”
“Don’t give me that,” Qiao Xin snapped. “Who else would be following you and me besides Lan Feiyi? How can this not be related to you?”
She turned back to Guan Shuyun. “I told you we can’t keep this person around! Now look—she’s basically a walking surveillance camera. Who knows what trouble she’ll cause next?”
Guan Shuyun ignored her and countered, “If you hadn’t pulled this stunt, would Lan Feiyi have any dirt to catch you with?”
Qiao Xin grew more incensed, pointing at Guan Shuyun’s nose. “In the end, you’re still protecting her?”
Guan Shuyun narrowed her eyes, studying me. She seemed to be hovering between trust and suspicion. Finally, she stood up, walked to the sofa, and placed her hands on my shoulders. She spoke calmly, laying out a plan:
“It’s not that I don’t trust you, it’s that our situation is too awkward. You Feifan, if you want to convince Qiao Xin, you have to do one thing for us. You’ve said you hate Lan Feiyi and want her to lose everything. I’m giving you that chance now. Do you dare take it?”
I knew what was coming. The moment of truth. Luckily, I had eavesdropped on their conversation before, so I knew how to react. I patted her hand and responded calmly, “Tell me. What do you want me to do?”
Qiao Xin took over. “What someone like Lan Feiyi fears most is public opinion. I want you to expose the truth about the child’s birth. Publicly reveal your past relationship with her. Confess everything, no holding back.”
The only way to avoid showing a flaw was to accept it readily. I leaned back into the sofa and looked up at Guan Shuyun. “That’s it?”
My reaction didn’t disappoint her. She smiled and nodded. “Yes. That simple.”
“I thought it was going to be something life-threatening. All that drama for this? Fine. I’ll cooperate with whatever you arrange.”
Qiao Xin still watched me with suspicion but ultimately conceded. “Fine. I’ll arrange the details later.”
Guan Shuyun grabbed her bag and stood up, catching me by the back of the collar. “Let’s go.”
I held out my hands. “That’s it? We’re done?”
She glared at me. “Unless you want another dose of drugs?”
As I rose to follow her, Qiao Xin suddenly called out, “You Feifan.”
I instinctively turned back, only to be met with a sudden, stinging slap across the face. I clutched my cheek as the burning pain registered. Before I could react, Guan Shuyun’s heels were already clicking aggressively toward Qiao Xin, but I reached out and caught her arm.
Qiao Xin stared at me with arrogant pride, then shifted her gaze to Guan Shuyun. “I’m a petty person,” she said viciously. “I don’t take losses. You slapped me earlier, so she pays for it. Otherwise, I won’t be able to sleep tonight.”
