- Chapter 81.1 - The Lounge
Qiu Miaoran, wearing a shirt, walked out of the bedroom to continue her phone call in the living room.
Half an hour later.
“Jiayu.”
“Get up.”
The woman’s voice drifted into her ear.
Ji Jiayu’s eyelashes fluttered, and she raised a hand to rub her eyes, “I’m up…”
“Ji Jiayu.” Qiu Miaoran stood by the bed, bending slightly to look at her profile.
“An hour ago, you said, ‘I’m up’,”
“It’s eight now,”
She gave a light scoff, emphasizing each word: “To-day-is-Mon-day.”
Ji Jiayu opened her eyes, her body trembling slightly, and she fiercely threw off the covers.
“It’s eight thirty?!”
“Quite the morning grump, aren’t you?” Qiu Miaoran said quietly.
“When I tried to pull your blanket away, you just hugged and kissed me…”
“Did I?” Ji Jiayu slightly pouted, sitting up on the bed.
“You’re not trying to trick me, are you?”
“Look here,” Qiu Miaoran lowered her head slightly, her dark, moist eyes fixed on her. She pressed her index finger to the corner of her own lips.
“Kissing and biting, like a little puppy?”
The woman’s fair, clean fingertip lightly pressed the skin just below her lip… it looked a little red, as if rubbed by something, a small spot of color that wasn’t very noticeable.
Ji Jiayu’s ears felt a little hot. She shuffled to the edge of the bed, hooked her feet into her slippers, and rushed into the bathroom to wash up. “I can’t talk to you right now. The artists have training at the company today, and we have a charity gala to rehearse for soon… I’m going to be late…”
Qiu Miaoran folded her arms and turned, her gaze sweeping over Ji Jiayu’s rushing figure as she washed up.
“You bit someone, and now you won’t own up to it?”
“W-woo… I didn’t mean to… I wasn’t very conscious yet…” Ji Jiayu mumbled worriedly, lowering her chin as she stood in front of the mirror, squeezing toothpaste onto her brush. She quietly complained, “Why didn’t my alarm go off?”
“Your phone alarm did go off,” Qiu Miaoran replied. “You didn’t wake up, so I turned it off for you.”
“Also, your manager called this morning. She said we were photographed yesterday, and it briefly trended on the hot search.”
“W-woo…” Ji Jiayu’s voice was muffled as she brushed her teeth with the toothbrush in her mouth. “What should we do?”
“They didn’t catch our faces, and the pictures are quite blurry,” Qiu Miaoran stood at the bathroom entrance, her gaze dark as she stared at the large expanse of fair, smooth skin on Ji Jiayu’s exposed back.
Her vision lowered to the slightly prominent butterfly wings, which looked delicate and fragile, utterly captivating…
Qiu Miaoran instinctively shifted her gaze, pausing before continuing, “We’ll talk later, don’t swallow your toothpaste.”
Ji Jiayu quickly finished washing up, patted some skincare products on her face, and walked out of the bathroom. “And what about you? What did you say? What did Sister Rong say afterward?”
“Nothing much…” Qiu Miaoran said softly. “I had it suppressed.”
She asked the public relations company to help remove the hot search and release other news to bury it.
Ji Jiayu walked to the dining table, saw the warmed milk and the breakfast Qiu Miaoran had just bought, and paused slightly. She suddenly remembered the few times she had been slandered and Qiu Miaoran had clarified things for her, so she casually picked up a custard bun.
“I thought… you would jump out and clarify again.”
Qiu Miaoran asked, “Clarify what?”
Ji Jiayu bit into the custard bun, and the sweet and savory egg yolk filling slowly oozed out.
She lowered her eyes, her voice soft and low. “It’s nothing.”
The drama she had filmed previously, Escape from the Summer, hadn’t even been released yet…
Going public now would probably have a negative impact.
Ji Jiayu lightly clenched her back molars and said vaguely, “I’m still not quite ready to…”
“Not ready to go public?” Qiu Miaoran countered.
“Because your career is on the rise, and your new drama hasn’t been released yet?”
“My new drama hasn’t been released yet…”
They had both spoken almost at the same time.
Ji Jiayu fell silent.
“Your manager just said the same thing,” Qiu Miaoran sat beside her, eating her breakfast unhurriedly. “I understand, and I can be patient.”
“This time, it’s my turn to be your secret lover. How does that feel?”
Ji Jiayu smiled, a small dimple sinking into her fair cheek.
“Qiu Sanshui, the cold-faced beauty who’s beautiful but untouchable, becoming my secret lover…”
“It’s heaven for me!”
Qiu Miaoran’s eyebrow lifted, and the corner of her lip curved into a half-smile. The fingers gripping the glass tightened suddenly.
“What did you call me?”
What strange title was that?
“Qiu Sanshui.”
“Female Bodhisattva.”
“Miaoran.”
“Miaomiao.”
“Jiejie (Sister)…”
Ji Jiayu deliberately drew out the last title, making it sound soft, alluring, and as if her voice contained a provocative hook.
“Which one do you like to hear?”
“…”
Qiu Miaoran was silent, her red lips pressed into a tight line. Her distinctly long eyelashes swept down, hiding her dark eyes and concealing the surging desire within.
She gripped the glass, the back of her hand taut, clearly showing the outline of the blue veins on her fair skin.
Ji Jiayu quietly moved closer. Beneath the long table, her fair, smooth leg once again moved over.
She flexed her instep, her toes painted with bright red gel polish lightly scraping the woman’s calf.
Ji Jiayu narrowed her eyes, a mist rising in her light chestnut-colored eyes, and she asked playfully, “Why are you quiet? Miaomiao?”
“Say ‘wife’?”
Qiu Miaoran moved her leg away. She sat up straight, her back still lean and straight like a pine, only turning her head slightly. The woman’s voice was commanding, a little husky.
“Behave yourself if you still want to go to work.”
Ji Jiayu pouted, her eyelashes fluttering. She cupped the glass in her hands and lowered her head to take a sip of milk. “If I don’t go to work… Sister Rong will be upset.”
Qiu Miaoran finished her breakfast, propped her chin on one hand, and looked sideways at Ji Jiayu, her gaze sweeping over the girl’s beautiful profile. Her phoenix eyes narrowed, and the color of her eyes grew darker.
“I’ll grant you leave, Student Ji,”
She reached out to gently stroke the wisps of hair near Ji Jiayu’s ear. “Cross-level approval for leave, understand?”
When the woman called her “Student Ji,” her voice was both scummy and seductive…
It made her heart itch.
“No,” Ji Jiayu quickly collected her glass and used a plate. “Career comes first.”
She picked up the dishes and fled towards the sink.
Qiu Miaoran quietly followed her into the kitchen, took the glass and plate from Ji Jiayu, squeezed in dish soap, and began to wash the dishes. “I’ll do it.”
“Next Monday night, clear your schedule and go out with me.”
“Go out for what?” Ji Jiayu asked in confusion.
“Qi Shan is getting married. We’re attending her wedding dinner.” Qiu Miaoran turned off the faucet and pulled a paper towel to dry the water on her fingers. “What’s wrong… you don’t want to go?”
Qiu Miaoran’s friend was getting married, and inviting her now—
—meant she wanted Ji Jiayu to attend the wedding as her significant other.
“I’ll go,” Ji Jiayu nodded. “I haven’t met your friends yet…”
“Let’s go,” Qiu Miaoran casually crumpled the used paper towel and tossed it into the trash can. “I’ll take you to work.”
Recently, Ji Jiayu had been rehearsing for the celebrity charity gala, even turning down two endorsements for it.
The charity gala happened to be on the following Monday, the same night as Qiu Miaoran’s friend Qi Shan’s wedding dinner.
The two had agreed in advance that Qiu Miaoran would come to the gala on Monday. After it ended, they would go to Qi Shan’s wedding together.
In the lounge.
Ji Jiayu sat in front of the vanity mirror, looking down at her phone. In the chat window:
[Ji Jiayu]: Are you here yet?
—Message from 20 minutes ago.
But there was no reply.
Qiu Miaoran was probably busy and hadn’t been able to make it.
Ji Jiayu lowered her eyes, feeling a slight disappointment in her heart.
She had thought Qiu Miaoran would like her performance…
Footsteps sounded behind her.
“Jiayu,” her assistant Xiaoyao walked over. “It’s almost your turn…”
“My phone,” Ji Jiayu pressed the screen off and handed it to her assistant. “Please put it away for me.”
Ji Jiayu walked through the backstage area, along the long corridor to the lifting platform.
Assistant Xiaoyao hurried over, shaking her phone. “Jiayu, oh, I forgot to tell you, the host said there would be an interactive segment with you before the performance to auction your dance routine. Is that okay?”
“If you don’t want to, I can have them cancel that segment right now.”
“I’m willing,” Ji Jiayu nodded lightly. “It’s what I should do… this is a charity gala, after all~”
“Oh, good,” Assistant Xiaoyao put her phone away.
“You got this. I’m really looking forward to it. I never knew our Xiaoyu could dance a girl group routine…”
“Hehe.” Ji Jiayu curved her lips and smiled. “It’s just practice, that’s all…”
She waved to Xiaoyao and stepped onto the lifting platform.
On the stage, the host had just finished their opening. “Next is a hot dance, performed by Ji Jiayu and the GY Backup Dancers.”
“Before we begin, let’s welcome the lead dancer to the stage.”
The lifting platform slowly rose.
In the center of the stage, the lights were dazzling and blinding, casting light from behind that outlined the girl’s graceful figure.
Host: “Wow, Jiayu’s outfit is so beautiful today, she’s a little kitty~”
Ji Jiayu was wearing a strapless camisole, the spotlight highlighting the clear outline of her collarbones, which shimmered with fine sparkles. Her shoulders and neck were slender, looking delicate and fragile.
Beneath the black shorts were two fair legs, her thighs wrapped in black stockings.
Ji Jiayu’s black hair was loose, she wore fuzzy cat ears on her head, and a fluffy tail behind her.
She raised her arm, curling her fingers into “cat paw” shapes, her long, curled lashes blinking slowly. She winked at the camera and opened her red lips to let out a small “Meow.”
The bullet comments instantly went wild—
[AAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!! Why am I not there?! Wuwuwu…]
[Spicy Kitty Cat!!]
[Oh my god, Ji Jiayu isn’t a fish, she must be a cat spirit! That wink just now, it just killed me with sweetness!]
…
“Now we begin the auction for Miss Kitty’s dance routine,” the host announced the starting bid. “The starting price is 100.”
In the audience, people immediately participated.
“300.”
“500.”
“1000.”
“1500.”
…
The auction grew heated.
Finally, President Cheng from Chengda Film and Television shouted, “Twenty thousand.”
Someone had just walked in. “Please let me get through,”
A woman in a white suit took a seat in the front row.
Qiu Miaoran raised her eyes, her gaze stopping on the girl’s figure on the stage. She turned her head to the person next to her and asked,
“What are they auctioning?”
“A dance routine. It’s not a physical item, so it’s a first to see someone bid up to twenty thousand.”
The man in the next seat answered, quietly muttering to himself that President Cheng of Chengda Film and Television must be a rich fool with more money than sense…
Qiu Miaoran nodded slightly, gripping the auction paddle in her hand.
The host’s voice clearly echoed through the venue:
“Twenty thousand, going once.”
“Twenty thousand, going twice.”
