My System, My Wife Feng Aotian [Transmigration] - Chapter 9
Feng Jue’s words ignited the cliffside once more, setting it ablaze with tension.
The Fire Rock Jiao had raised its head at the mention of the Flame Core Stone, rocks crumbling from its body. Xue Bufan, standing beside it, looked grim as he pressed down on the Jiao’s stone scales, whispering urgently, “Fire Rock Jiao, don’t forget our agreement!”
“I’ll definitely find you the Flame Core Stone—if you come back with me!”
He kept assuring her, but the Fire Rock Jiao’s wide eyes remained fixed on Feng Jue.
The young and beautiful palace maids of Lanyang Palace, dressed in elegant robes and jade ornaments, served tea and incense with utmost grace and charm. Yet they couldn’t diminish Feng Jue’s radiance even slightly, as if she alone monopolized the garden’s spring blossoms, exuding an alluring aura that permeated the air.
Even an ant passing by would catch her fleeting glance, let alone a dragon like the Jiao.
No one doubted Feng Jue would lie about the Flame Core Stone. Someone of her status would never stoop to deception.
Xue Bufan grew increasingly agitated.
“Don’t forget that if he hadn’t saved you back then, you wouldn’t be alive now! His command was for you to follow me!” Xue Bufan whispered urgently.
The Fire Rock Jiao lowered its head, looking hesitant.
Feng Jue, holding her teacup between slender fingers, watched the one Jiao and one human “discussing” as if she were watching a play, a hint of amusement in her eyes. Elder Li of the Lianshan Sect, perhaps having lost faith in the Fire Rock Jiao over the Flame Core Stone incident, only sighed instead of speaking.
Xue Mengtao looked at Xue Bufan with concern, but quickly lowered her head and retreated to a corner where she wouldn’t draw attention.
Unable to resist, 03 took out the popsicle 019 had given it.
Time for a lick. I feel like I need something to eat!
Feng Jue noticed 03’s movement out of the corner of her eye. She turned to look, her eyebrow arching.
What’s that?
The silvery orb held a rectangular object with a handle between two matchstick-like appendages. Suddenly, a corner of the green object snapped off, and 03’s round body began to tremble. A faint green glow spread within the orb, while its surface crackled with electricity, layers of golden light pulsing outward.
It was so garishly colorful that Feng Jue couldn’t bear to look directly at it.
Did it eat something it shouldn’t? Feng Jue wondered suspiciously.
03 floated over in a daze, as if drunk, and held up the small popsicle in its hand, saying to Feng Jue, “Host, this… it seems to have what humans call ‘sweetness’!”
For the first time, 03 realized that the snacks sold by the Main System actually had flavors. But how could a system taste anything?
Yet it had tasted this—sweet and icy, nearly causing its data streams to crash.
The Main System was truly remarkable, having already developed this kind of functionality!
03 grew even dazed, momentarily bewildered by the shock. Its two large and one small circular eyes stared blankly at Feng Jue.
Feng Jue: “…”
Go away. You’re giving me eye strain.
She transmitted her disdain to 03, telling it not to get in the way, and casually picked up a pastry from the palace attendant’s tray, placing it beside 03.
Come, eat.
The pastries at Lanyang Palace were exquisite. A phoenix with golden thread tail feathers spread its wings, its eyes dotted with sesame seeds. Still in a daze, 03 slowly drifted forward, enveloping the pastry-sized treat. Within the silver orb, the phoenix spread its wings.
But it couldn’t reach the food.
A strange feeling welled up in the Data Orb as it stuffed the chipped popsicle into its backpack, staring intently at the item labeled “Bitten Popsicle.”
Looks like it needs a vacation too.
Feng Jue’s attention was entirely focused on 03. Watching a glowing orb of multicolored light was far more pleasant than observing a half-dead Jiao or an underdeveloped “Protagonist.” She glared impatiently at them. “Have you made up your mind yet?”
Grrr. The Fire Rock Jiao’s head drooped weakly to the ground, earning a glare from Feng Jue.
“What’s with the growling? As if I could understand you!”
Xue Bufan’s lips twitched. “Palace Mistress, it’s still a Jiao.”
Not human, so of course it can’t speak human words.
He patted the Fire Rock Jiao’s scales reassuringly.
See? The Palace Mistress of Lanyang Palace may be wealthy, powerful, and influential, but her temper is unpredictable and she’s difficult to deal with. Why not choose me instead?
Feng Jue casually tossed some pastries onto the tea tray, dusted her hands, and stood up. “I don’t have time to waste on you. If you’re unwilling, I won’t force you. A mere Fire Rock Jiao isn’t worth my trouble.”
Xue Bufan hadn’t expected such a sudden turn of events. His heart swelled with joy.
Siyi, standing beside the daybed, smiled brightly. “That’s right. After all, Palace Mistress, you were born with a supreme Fire Spiritual Root. Every time you advance, you reach the Great Perfection. You’ve only been cultivating for less than twenty years, yet you’ve already reached the Golden Core Stage. Who knows? In another hundred years, you might even break through to the Nascent Soul Stage. For someone like you, fire-attribute spirit beasts are merely the cherry on top. If a fire-attribute spirit beast truly wishes to follow you, I imagine that by the time you reach the Nascent Soul Stage, your spirit pet might even evolve into a human form.”
Feng Jue’s lips curled into a smirk as she transformed into a streak of light and soared up the cliff.
Siyi followed, placing her hand on Xue Mengtao’s back. As she urged the group back to the palace, she smiled. “It’s just a pity about all those fire-attribute treasures in the palace. I wonder when they’ll find suitable masters.”
“Oh, right.” Siyi turned to glance at Xue Bufan, a faint smile playing on her lips. “Young Master Xue, I heard you had a Lightning Spiritual Root before it was crippled? Lightning and fire… they do make a compatible pair.”
Xue Bufan felt Siyi’s gaze was overly meaningful. His heart skipped a beat as she spoke. Then, the Fire Rock Jiao beside him roared and lunged after the Lanyang Palace group, its massive body crashing forward without hesitation.
“Fire Rock Jiao!” Xue Bufan paled, shocked. He never expected the Fire Rock Jiao, which Feng Jue had released, to abandon its hesitation and choose Feng Jue over him!
“Damn it! Why is this happening?! Isn’t it your spirit beast? And it knows my spiritual root has already…” His rage burned, his expression shifting rapidly before settling into a calm, as if someone had soothed him.
03 scanned and recorded Feng Jue’s emotional rollercoaster, naming the file “Host’s Complete Victory,” and zipped back to its station with a whoosh, just before a warning flashed.
At Lanyang Palace, the spirit ship remained anchored. 03 slipped through the window into the cabin.
Feng Jue, who had been studying the Fire Rock Jiao’s horns, glanced at 03, tossed the horns aside, and commanded, “Set sail.”
The formation lit up, spiritual energy circulating as the ship carried its passengers and the jiao back to port.
In private, Feng Jue appeared even more relaxed and pampered than in public. Kicking off her shoes, she sprawled bonelessly on the couch, one leg dangling over the side, her foot resting on the coiled body of the Fire Rock Jiao. She beckoned to 03 with a mocking smile. “Come, meet your sister, Ling Shi.”
03: “?”
“Ling Shan, Ling Shi, 0304…”
Feng Jue repeated the names of the System and the jiao, her foot sliding over the jiao’s gray scales, the friction making her skin seem even fairer in contrast. Propping her cheek in one hand, she glanced sideways, then sat up abruptly, clapping in laughter.
“Perfect! Pairing you two together is utterly absurd!”
