My System, My Wife Feng Aotian [Transmigration] - Chapter 43
The appearance of 03 was rather… peculiar.
However, given Feng Jue’s status and influence, concealing 03’s origins was a trivial matter. But before 03 could be presented to others, it first needed to learn how to be human!
Feng Jue stared at the long cocoon on the bed and sighed softly. Though 03 was half a head taller than her, its slender frame meant it could temporarily borrow her clothes. After much deliberation, she dismissed the striking crimson and gold garments as too conspicuous, finally settling on a teal dress.
“Can you dress yourself?” Feng Jue asked.
“I can learn,” 03 replied.
Recalling the techniques taught by 05, 03 added, “Practise.”
It sounded remarkably like “Hehe.”
Feng Jue tossed the dress over 03’s head as it attempted to sit up, huffing, “What’s so funny, you idiot?”
An arm suddenly shot out from beneath the teal fabric, holding a bubble.
The round-bodied System Entity stamped its matchstick legs in anger.
To prove it wasn’t an idiot, 03 searched the database for relevant information. Without any external assistance—Feng Jue, relying solely on its own hands—the System Entity achieved its first successful dressing!
Feng Jue crossed her arms and waited for a moment. When 03 said it was ready, she turned around and discovered that, apart from slightly messy hair, 03 was dressed impeccably. Even the slight creases in the clothes had been smoothed out, presenting a remarkably neat and sharp—figure.
“Not bad,” Feng Jue said with a curl of her lips. “Very good.”
03 raised her hand again, and a thumbs-up appeared in the Bubble System.
Feng Jue stifled a laugh, walked over, and took 03’s hand, tucking down the four fingers while leaving the thumb upright.
Human 03 gives a thumbs-up.
Understanding dawned on 03, and she raised her other hand as well.
Human 03 gives two thumbs-up.
“Pfft!” Feng Jue burst into laughter, pressing 03’s hands down. “Silly.”
Ah, being human is so difficult.
03 drooped dejectedly.
“Enough. Since you’re growing up by my side, I, the Palace Master, feel responsible for your education. I’ll teach you how to be human over the next few days.” As Feng Jue spoke, she took 03’s hand and began walking backward, guiding 03 forward.
03 curiously followed.
Feng Jue’s palace was vast and spacious, carpeted with soft rugs. Before they had even made half a circuit, 03 had already grown accustomed to walking. She released Feng Jue’s hand and moved to walk beside her, their shoulders now aligned.
“Thank you, Feng Jue. Let’s walk together,” 03 said.
That’s not right.
“Let’s walk, walk.”
Feng Jue didn’t understand why 03 repeated herself. Was this a side effect of becoming human? “Speak properly,” she said.
It seemed that acting cute had no effect on Feng Jue, likely because she was a smart and rational Host. 03 thought as she led Feng Jue in circles around the room, mentioning the upcoming meeting in the System Realm.
“My fellow Systems from my cohort say the name you gave me is too… outdated. They recommend I adopt another surname,” 03 said calmly.
Feng Jue scoffed, unreasonably. “Who said it was outdated?”
03 raised her hand, and a crying Silver System wearing a small hat materialized in a bubble. This System was identical to the old 03.
But this definitely wasn’t 03, because 03 never looked so ugly when crying!
A ball of fire shot from Feng Jue’s fingertip, piercing through the crying Silver System. 03 obediently released the 10 within the bubble, sending it flying just like 08 had done before.
Feng Jue nodded in satisfaction.
But…
“Your—Companions,” Feng Jue said casually, “do they all think this name is unappealing?” 03 stared straight ahead, remaining silent.
She walked half a circle, acting as if she had just become human and her hearing wasn’t quite working.
Feng Jue narrowed her eyes. As they turned the corner, she suddenly grabbed 03, pulling her face-to-face and demanding sternly, “Speak!”
03 suddenly realized the difference between being human and being a ball. Now she had five senses—she could smell Feng Jue’s fragrance, feel the warmth of her fingers, and sense the strength in their clasped hands.
And there was a cold wind blowing persistently against the back of her neck.
Kill intent!
Under Feng Jue’s intense gaze, 03 pondered for a moment, then a smile curved her lips.
Not sure how to answer? Might as well give Feng Jue a smile.
“……”
Feng Jue was about to laugh in exasperation, but… she cleared her throat, pried her fingers from 03’s palm, crossed her arms, and stared coolly into 03’s eyes.
03 raised her hand, looked at it, then glanced back at Feng Jue.
She pondered again.
“It’s not that bad. Just pick a surname.”
03: “Hahaha!”
Feng Jue narrowed her eyes, suddenly pinching 03’s cheeks with both hands. She examined them from left to right, then gripped 03’s chin to make her open her mouth, even tugging on her ears.
Forced to lower her head, 03 allowed Feng Jue to examine her.
“Is something wrong?” Feng Jue asked earnestly.
If there was an error, she would report it to the Main System. But the Main System—
Once sold, no refunds or exchanges. However, reconditioning at the factory is possible.
Feng Jue pinched 03’s earlobes. The earlobes of this fair-skinned person were equally pale, turning bright red with gentle pinching. She cradled 03’s head, freezing the robot’s attempt to turn away. Clear eyes gazed curiously to the side.
“It’s fine. You’re really human after all,” Feng Jue murmured, pinching 03’s ears again. “No ear piercings. I’ll get you some—no, never mind. You’re perfect just as you are.”
Like a lotus emerging from clear water, naturally beautiful without adornment.
Feng Jue released her grip, gazing at the stunning beauty before her—perfect without any embellishment. A smirk played on her lips as she beckoned with a crooked finger. “Come here. Let me tie up your hair. It looks… unkempt like this.”
03, who had been breathing a sigh of relief while mimicking Feng Jue’s ear-pinch gesture, nodded and followed her to the dressing table. She seemed to have already grown accustomed to her new body, settling into the stool without needing Feng Jue’s guidance.
It’s a little stiff.
Through the mirror, 03 observed Feng Jue and said politely, “Thank you, Feng Jue. You can begin now.”
Feng Jue chuckled, picking up a wooden comb from the dressing table and gathering a strand of 03’s hair in her other hand.
The silvery hair flowed like moonlit stream water, cool and smooth to the touch, almost irresistible to hold and caress. Feng Jue lowered her gaze to the primly seated 03, combing her hair as she spoke, “Since your family finds this name unsuitable, we’ll change it.”
Honestly, 03 replied, “I don’t think it’s bad.” She had always liked it—after all, Feng Jue had given it to her. As she spoke, 03 couldn’t help but want to look up at Feng Jue.
“Don’t move,” Feng Jue said.
03 froze, watching Feng Jue through the mirror.
“It’s alright,” Feng Jue said, her tone turning serious as she brushed 03’s hair. “I just translated your system name on a whim back then, and it was rather perfunctory.” She continued, “I don’t know how it works in your world, but in ours, besides names, people also have courtesy names and style names. The courtesy name is usually given by elders when one comes of age, and it’s used by close associates. The style name, however, can be used by both the person themselves and others as a mark of respect.”
As Feng Jue explained, she retrieved a crimson satin ribbon embroidered with golden silk from her Storage Ring. The ribbon was exquisitely crafted, with two phoenixes stitched in perfect symmetry, one on each side.
She intended to use this ribbon to tie 03’s hair.
Meanwhile, 03 wasn’t idle. Several panels materialized before her, each representing a document detailing the history of human names, courtesy names, and style names. Feng Jue, overwhelmed by the dense text, snorted and said, “Just listen to me!”
In the next instant, all the panels vanished, and 03’s mirrored image smiled at her.
Feng Jue: …
“Tsk.”
Well, you’ve learned your lesson now.
Feng Jue tied 03’s long silver hair into a high ponytail but didn’t let them stand up. She continued rummaging through her Storage Ring, eventually pulling out two jade bells and securing them beneath the crimson and golden satin ribbon.
The jade bells pressed against the satin ribbon, which lay against 03’s silver hair, the strands cascading over their azure robes. With each step, the bells would chime melodiously.
Feng Jue nodded in satisfaction, placing her hand on 03’s shoulder. The two gazed at each other through the mirror, continuing their earlier conversation.
“Besides formal names, children also have nicknames. I’ve seen mortal books claim that giving children ‘lowly’ names helps them thrive—like ‘Little Dog Egg.'” A sly smile curled her lips as she flicked the two jade bells hidden beneath the satin ribbon.
The bells chimed, and 03’s eyes widened in the mirror.
Please don’t just randomly assign such names to the System! Besides, it’s a fully functional adult System, perfectly capable of sustaining itself!
“Since you’ve chosen to be human, you should choose your own name. I won’t overstep my bounds.” Feng Jue patted 03 on the head, smiling as she walked away, her voice trailing off. “I can’t always be your elder.”
03 tilted her head and raised her voice. “You’re not my elder. If we go by birth order, I’m the ancestor of all of you.”
Feng Jue stopped, looking conflicted. She turned and pointed at 03. “Next time, save that kind of talk for someone you hate.”
“Oh, okay.” 03 memorized Feng Jue’s words and got up to follow her.
Clanking and clattering, 03 followed Feng Jue to her private chambers. Feng Jue lay down on the couch, propping her cheek on one hand while picking up the unfinished novel. She glanced sideways at 03. The robot circled the soft couch, realizing there was no space for her to curl up in her current form.
A speech bubble floated above 03’s head. It was strange to see such a thing appear on a human, and Feng Jue couldn’t help but stare. The Bubble System sighed dramatically.
The human 03 sat cross-legged on the carpet, expressionless. She realized this position was perfect for looking Feng Jue in the eye. She smiled at her.
Feng Jue pressed her lips together, feigning nonchalance as she flipped a page in her book. “Stop grinning like an idiot,” she said. “Hurry up and think of a name that suits you. Otherwise, I’ll call you Little Dog Egg.”
03 froze, a hint of distress crossing her face. What does she mean by a name that suits me?
Feng Jue, who had been watching her, raised an eyebrow. Can’t she make any other expressions?
03 was utterly distressed.
Small panels fluttered out one after another, cluttering the entire room. Feng Jue glanced at them—titles like The Ultimate Guide to Naming Girls, Names That Suit You Best, and Surnames That Match Your Aura.
Feng Jue: “Pfft… cough.”
She wanted to laugh but couldn’t. Turning away, she flipped the book she’d barely glanced at back to the page she’d started on.
“Name, name,” 03 chanted, poring over the literature for naming inspiration. As she searched, her voice gradually faded to silence.
Feng Jue’s eyes darted around. Why has it gone quiet? Just as she was about to turn back and see what 03 was doing, a silver head shot forward with a whoosh, freezing Feng Jue in place.
03 craned her neck, glancing at the book in Feng Jue’s hands. “Excuse me. Feng Jue, you were just reading this page, weren’t you?”
Feng Jue, embarrassed and angry, covered herself with the book and turned around. 03 leaned in so close that only half a finger’s width separated them. Feng Jue’s chest heaved, but she dared not breathe too deeply. The feel of 03’s breath on her face was… strange.
“What now?” Feng Jue asked, looking into 03’s eyes.
03 lowered her head and nuzzled Feng Jue’s cheek, just as she had when she was still a Bead.
The cool skin brushed against Feng Jue’s cheek like a dragonfly touching water. Caught off guard, Feng Jue swallowed hard, then abruptly pushed 03 away and sat up.
“What are you doing?!” Feng Jue snapped. “You’re still treating me like that little Bead! You’re practically trying to climb on top of me!”
“I’m sorry,” 03 said. “But this is how I used to act before.”
You keep saying “before,” but have you even looked at yourself now? Feng Jue stared at 03’s beautiful face, then suddenly grabbed the notebook nearby and slapped it against 03’s face.
“Mm.” 03 removed the notebook, neatly closed it, and placed it on her knees. She began flipping through it page by page, scanning its contents. Not forgetting to check the person’s name, she said, “Feng Jue, I won’t climb on top of you.”
Multitasking, 03 said to Feng Jue, “I’ve come up with three names. Could you help me decide if they’re suitable?”
“Three?” Feng Jue asked. “Let’s hear them.”
03’s fingers flew over the conversation log as she scanned it, her expression impassive. “The first name I’m considering is Xi Lingren.”
Xi Lingren?
Feng Jue had only ever heard the phrase “arrogantly domineering.”
A panel materialized between them, displaying 03’s name: Xi Lingren, just as she had suggested.
“Explain,” Feng Jue prompted.
“Xi is derived from ‘System,’ and it’s a recognized surname in the surname compendium,” 03 explained. But a flicker of unease crossed her eyes. “If other Systems were to arrive in this world, they might deduce my identity from this surname.”
“…I think you’re overthinking it,” Feng Jue replied.
The unease in 03’s eyes dissipated, replaced by a bright confidence. “You’re right! This is a High-Level System mission world. It will be ages before the Systems in the System Realm can upgrade to High-Level status. By then, I should have already completed my mission!”
Feng Jue paused, then a faint smile tugged at her lips. “True.”
Feng Jue changed the subject. “What about Lingren? Does this imply that, in your view, Systems are superior to humans?”
As a humble system, 03 insisted she had no such intentions. A panel floated up before her, and in a clear, crisp voice, she enunciated each word: “Ling is a homophone for ‘zero.’ As for ‘ren,’ it means ‘human body.'”
Feng Jue: “……”
She raised her hand and clapped expressionlessly, offering praise: “Not bad.”
Good.
Very interesting.
Feng Jue: “Heh.”
Still not as good as Lingshan.
03, delighted, assumed Feng Jue had approved her chosen names. She continued: “The full name is Xi Lingren. The courtesy name is Lingshan, and the style name is Lingshan Sword Venerable.”
Feng Jue raised her hand and asked slowly: “What’s the style name?”
“Lingshan Sword Venerable,” 03 replied, enunciating each word.
Feng Jue pressed further: “What’s Lingshan again?”
“Sword Venerable,” 03 answered, emphasizing each syllable.
Perhaps fearing Feng Jue would ask about “Sword Venerable” again, 03 added: “Lingshan Sword Venerable.”
Feng Jue: “……”
The corner of her mouth twitched. She abruptly stood up, walked to the table, and poured herself a cup of tea. Sipping it slowly, she thought: This is a system, not a person. No, it’s a person now, but inside, it’s still a system.
Still not quite right.
Feng Jue whirled around, meeting 03’s leaning head. She narrowed her eyes.
Even when she was just a System, she wasn’t this modest.
03 clasped her hands behind her back, sniffed the air, and said with bright eyes on her beautiful face, “Feng Jue, I can eat and drink now.” Feng Jue poured her a cup of tea, watching as she happily took it with her large eyes blinking.
“Too hot,” 03 said coolly.
“Then put it down,” Feng Jue replied, her voice softening slightly.
“It’s fine,” 03 said, her voice also gentle. “I’m just adjusting to how this body channels energy. I can tolerate this level of heat.”
Suit yourself.
Feng Jue sat down, leaning lazily against the table, and sipped her tea across from 03.
The palace doors and windows stood open, allowing mountain winds to carry swirling mist inside. The mist piled near the windows, while old branches in the vase below bloomed with fresh flowers, their faint fragrance carried by the breeze to the tea-drinkers’ noses.
Feng Jue calmed her mind, still reeling from the Sword Venerable’s revelation. She nudged 03’s hem with her foot. 03 patted her clothes and tilted her head. The simple gesture made Feng Jue imagine a question mark floating above her head.
Thinking back, if 03 hadn’t taught her to recognize these symbols, she wouldn’t have known that a curved hook with a dot could express confusion.
Feng Jue wanted to express her own confusion. “Didn’t you say ‘Lingshan’ sounded bad?”
03 considered checking if there were any memory-enhancing items available for Feng Jue, but simply said, “I think ‘Lingshan’ sounds perfectly fine.”
“You have great potential. I’ll follow you and protect you in the future. My name will be passed down alongside yours, and when that day comes, the world will know the name you’ve given me.”
Holding her teacup, 03 smiled at Feng Jue. “That sounds wonderful.”
“Let’s toast to that day. To its arrival!”
She raised her teacup.
Feng Jue pursed her lips, struggling to tear her gaze from 03’s bright eyes. Avoiding her face, she focused on the crimson carpet, staring at the golden peonies until she slowly exhaled.
“Enough. I appreciate your kindness, but…” Feng Jue suddenly took a sip of tea, glancing at 03, whose eyes remained fixed on her, making her heart tighten.
She quickly shifted her gaze to the distant mountains beyond the hall.
A sudden idea struck her. Smiling, Feng Jue said, “Xi Lingren is the name you worked so hard to come up with. You wanted to call…”
She closed her eyes, then said resolutely, “Let’s use this name. As for a courtesy name and style name… they’re not necessary.”
With that, Feng Jue rose and went to the study, picking up a brush.
A paperweight held down the blue-green paper.
Holding her teacup, 03 carefully approached and stood beside her, watching.
Feng Jue’s brush moved with serpent-like grace, first writing “Ling,” then “Mountain.” She smiled. “From now on, when asked, say you’re from Lingshan. When your fame spreads, you’ll become the Lingshan Sword Immortal.”
The Lingshan Sword Venerable.
03 slowly squeezed closer, pressing against Feng Jue to scan the written characters and add them to the Xi Lingren database. Even she had a file in the System.
“Thank you, Feng Jue!” she said gratefully.
Even with countless documents and data, the Host still had more experience when it came to dealing with people! 03 realized she needed to learn more from Feng Jue and couldn’t help but smile.
Feng Jue tilted her head, her lips curving in response. “Privately, I’ll still call you 03.”
“Okay, you can call me whatever you want—ah!” 03 quickly corrected herself. “Except Little Dog Egg.”
Feng Jue burst into laughter, playfully poking 03’s cheek with a slender finger.
“Alright, Little 03.”
03’s eyes crinkled even more as she raised her teacup again. “Cheers.”
