My Sweet Little Flower Turned Out to Be a Sinister Ghost - Chapter 71
The sun emerged from thin clouds…
Song Yuehua, cocooned in a fluffy sky-blue quilt, rolled over like a cat. Her nose brushed against Bai Qingyu’s lingering scent, and she drowsily opened her eyes.
She rubbed her eyes and reached for the space beside her pillow, empty. The sheets under her fingertips had long lost their warmth, clearly indicating Bai Qingyu had been gone for a while.
Yawning, Song Yuehua shuffled into the living room in her slippers. As she turned the corner of the hallway, her breath caught at the sight before her.
Bai Qingyu was dressed in form-fitting dark gray athletic wear that accentuated her sleek shoulder line and the curve of her waist. She was wiping sweat from her forehead with a towel, her damp bangs clinging to her skin. Her jawline was sharply defined, and the muscles in her arms were faintly visible as she moved. Most striking were her abdominal muscles, the distinct lines of her sculpted core flickered in the light, radiating strength.
Song Yuehua stared, mesmerized. Bai Qingyu usually wore crisp white shirts and black suits, concealing her powerful physique entirely. Who would have guessed that beneath those tailored clothes lay such a firm, toned body? Her gaze lingered, tracing the lines from Bai Qingyu’s shoulders down to her waist, so absorbed that she didn’t even hear Bai Qingyu speak.
“You’re up early today?” Bai Qingyu set down the towel, a flicker of surprise in her eyes as she walked over. The warmth of her post-workout breath brushed against the air.
“Huh?”
Song Yuehua snapped back to reality, flustered like a thief caught red-handed. She hastily averted her eyes from Bai Qingyu’s waist, fixing them firmly on the floor.
What a floor this is, she thought vaguely.
Mumbling, she replied, “Just… woke up naturally.” Then, suddenly lifting her head, she asked, “Did you go for a run?”
Bai Qingyu took a sip of warm water from the table, her throat moving as she swallowed. Shaking her head with a smile, she said, “I turned the basement into a gym. I was working out there. Want to take a look?”
Song Yuehua shook her head vigorously, like a rattle-drum. Even running 800 meters left her breathless, a place like that was definitely not for her.
After just a few sips, Bai Qingyu screwed the cap back on the bottle and slowly approached. Leaning in suddenly, she lowered her voice to a magnetic whisper, like a feather tickling Song Yuehua’s ear: “Then… do you want to touch it?”
Before Song Yuehua could react, Bai Qingyu had already taken her hand, guiding her fingertips toward her own waist.
Song Yuehua’s face flushed crimson. Instinctively, she tried to step back, but her body obediently followed Bai Qingyu’s lead. Her eyes remained fixed on the contours of those abdominal muscles.
Bai Qingyu chuckled softly, her movements unwavering as she gently pressed Song Yuehua’s hand against her waist.
A warm, firm resilience seeped through the thin fabric of her athletic wear, so different from the softness of Song Yuehua’s own belly. Her fingertips traced the grooves of Bai Qingyu’s sculpted muscles and even detected a faint tremor beneath the skin.
At first, Song Yuehua was merely following Bai Qingyu’s guidance, but as her fingers registered that taut resilience, they began to move on their own. They glided lightly from the indentations at her waist down to her lower abdomen, tracing the patterns of the muscles beneath the skin. Her breathing grew soft and gentle.
Only after her fingertips had traced half the outline of those abdominal muscles did she belatedly halt her movements. When she looked up, she met Bai Qingyu’s lowered gaze and the indulgent smile brimming in her eyes.
“Ah!” Song Yuehua jerked her hand back as if scalded, her cheeks instantly flushing a deep crimson. Her words stumbled out, “I-I’ll go prepare breakfast. You should take a shower first!”
Before the words fully left her mouth, she had already turned and fled toward the kitchen.
Bai Qingyu watched her retreating figure, the amusement in her eyes growing stronger.
They had only moved in a few days ago, and the kitchen supplies hadn’t been fully stocked yet. Opening the refrigerator revealed only a few simple ingredients. Song Yuehua pulled out a bag of whole wheat bread, placed it directly in a skillet over low heat without any oil, then cracked two eggs and fried them until golden.
By the time she brought breakfast to the table, Bai Qingyu had finished her shower. Her hair was still dripping as she casually toweled it dry, sitting obediently at the dining table waiting for her.
“Why didn’t you dry your hair properly before coming?” Song Yuehua set down the tray and gently touched her damp hair ends, feeling slightly concerned. “You might catch a cold like this.”
“I thought I could dry it after eating before heading to work, so I wouldn’t waste time.”
“Then let me help you dry it.”
A flicker of surprise crossed Bai Qingyu’s eyes before she nodded. “Okay.”
Song Yuehua wasn’t particularly skilled at blow-drying hair, her movements somewhat clumsy. But she was careful not to tug at Bai Qingyu’s hair, gently gathering the strands with her fingers.
After finally drying the hair, Song Yuehua breathed a sigh of relief, and Bai Qingyu smiled, ruffling her own hair. Once breakfast was finished, Bai Qingyu changed clothes, picked up her bag, and prepared to leave. Song Yuehua followed closely behind her.
“I’m off?” At the entrance, Bai Qingyu stopped and turned to look at her.
“Mhm.” Song Yuehua pressed her lips together and nodded, her eyes full of attachment, her fingers unconsciously twisting the hem of her clothes.
“See you tonight.” Bai Qingyu’s heart softened at the sight of her like this. She leaned down and pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead.
This time, instead of burying her face in shyness as she usually did, Song Yuehua stood on her tiptoes with reddened ears and actively kissed Bai Qingyu’s lips, her voice soft. “See you tonight.”
Watching her adorable expression, Bai Qingyu suddenly let out a soft sigh.
Song Yuehua immediately asked with concern, “What’s wrong?”
Bai Qingyu gazed at Song Yuehua’s face and said, “I suddenly don’t want to go to work.”
Seeing her rare display of coquettishness, Song Yuehua felt both exasperated and amused. She wrinkled her nose and resolutely pushed her toward the door. “That won’t do! Hurry up and go. The earlier you leave, the sooner you’ll return. I’ll be waiting for you at home.”
Pushed outside, Bai Qingyu smiled helplessly and adoringly, waving at her. “Goodbye. Remember to eat on time.”
“Goodbye!” Song Yuehua clung to the doorframe, waving until Bai Qingyu’s figure disappeared around the bend of the gravel path, hidden by the blooming trees along the roadside. Only then did she reluctantly close the door.
“Meow~” A soft sound came from near her feet. Song Xiaomi had woken up at some point and was arching its back, rubbing against her ankle. This carefree little cat had fully embraced its new home. Taking advantage of the spacious villa, it spent its days either hiding under the sofa or sneaking into the garden, only appearing punctually by its food bowl when it heard the rustle of the cat food bag.
Song Yuehua bent down to scratch its chin before turning to the kitchen to prepare its meal. As soon as she placed the food in the bowl, Song Xiaomi eagerly approached, its little head bobbing up and down, a contented purr rumbling in its throat.
Within minutes, the bowl was licked clean. The cat shook its paws, sauntered gracefully over to Song Yuehua’s legs, and rubbed its head against her palm, meowing for a cuddle.
“Alright, alright, I’ll pet you,” Song Yuehua said with a laugh, scooping the cat into her arms. Her fingers glided through its fluffy fur, and Song Xiaomi squinted contentedly, resting its paws on her shoulder and burying its face in the crook of her neck. But this affection didn’t last long, after less than two minutes, the cat suddenly wriggled free, leaped off the bed with a soft thud, and swished its tail as it slipped into the study. It must have discovered a new place to explore.
Leaving Song Yuehua alone in the living room.
“Alright, I should head out too,” she said, standing up.
She planned to go to the supermarket to stock up the empty fridge!
When she arrived at the nearest supermarket by taxi, Song Yuehua was amazed.
It was huge, much larger than any supermarket she had visited before.
It would have been even better if she had come with Bai Qingyu.
Grabbing a shopping cart, Song Yuehua began browsing casually, picking up whatever caught her eye.
As she wandered, she found herself in the family planning products aisle.
She flinched as if burned, pushing her cart forward quickly, the tips of her ears turning bright red. But after only a few steps, she paused. Biting her lower lip, she glanced back to make sure no one was watching, then turned around, her face flushed.
Head lowered, eyes fixed on her sneakers, she reached out and randomly grabbed a box from the shelf, stuffing it to the very bottom of her cart. Once done, she practically fled, pushing the cart straight to the checkout counter.
While paying, she stared straight ahead, avoiding any chance of eye contact with the cashier.
Back home, Song Yuehua sorted through her purchases, organizing them one by one.
When everything was put away, she stared at the small item at the bottom of the bag, pursed her lips, and finally walked to the bedroom, placing it in the bottom drawer of the nightstand.
Inside were instruction manuals for various items, a drawer that wouldn’t be opened unless necessary.
Song Yuehua thought it was the perfect hiding spot, one only she would discover.
Satisfied, she closed the drawer.
Exhausted from her outing, Song Yuehua spent the rest of the day lounging on the sofa, scrolling through her phone and occasionally playing with Song Xiaomi using a cat teaser.
Suddenly, the lock clicked. Song Yuehua’s eyes lit up. She tossed her phone aside, sprang up from the sofa, and hurried to the door in her slippers.
Just as Bai Qingyu pushed the door open, before she could even change her shoes, a figure rushed straight into her arms. Reacting swiftly, Bai Qingyu opened her arms and caught her in a firm embrace.
After a moment of affectionate cuddling, Bai Qingyu headed to the kitchen to start cooking.
Noticing the newly stocked fridge, she turned to Song Yuehua, who was leaning against the doorframe, and smiled. “Did you go on a shopping spree today? You bought so much.”
“Of course!” Song Yuehua immediately stepped closer, counting on her fingers. “The supermarket nearby is huge, way more impressive than the ones we used to go to. I bought a new scratching post for Song Xiaomi, two star-patterned mugs to match our toothbrushes, and oh, the yogurt you like for breakfast…”
Her voice trailed off, and the tips of her ears turned pink again.
“Next time, I’ll go with you.”
“Okay.”
After dinner, Song Yuehua swiftly placed the dishes and utensils into the dishwasher. Just as she pressed the start button, Bai Qingyu gently embraced her from behind.
“There’s a screening room upstairs that we haven’t tried yet. How about watching a movie together today?” Bai Qingyu rested her chin on Song Yuehua’s shoulder, her voice carrying a hint of temptation.
“Sure, sure!” Song Yuehua’s eyes lit up as she turned around and playfully nudged Bai Qingyu’s chest. “You go ahead and set up the projector while I prepare snacks and drinks. Let’s just relax today.”
The snacks they had bought that morning were still piled in the cupboard. She dug out potato chips, nuts, and chilled juice, arranging them on a tray. While busy, she noticed Bai Qingyu passing by the kitchen doorway, heading toward the bedroom.
“Where are you going?” Song Yuehua asked, puzzled.
“The projector won’t turn on. I’m going to look for the instruction manual,” Bai Qingyu’s voice echoed from the hallway, accompanied by the soft sound of the bedroom door opening.
Hearing this, Song Yuehua’s heart skipped a beat.
The bedroom! The instruction manual!
She suddenly remembered what she had hidden in the bottom drawer of the bedside table.
