My Sweet And Submissive Bunny Won't Stop Being Clingy - Chapter 18
As everyone knows, it is impossible for the moon to be both full and waning at the same time.
Just as it was impossible for Wen Shuyao and “Little Bread” to appear before Meng Hemian simultaneously.
While Wen Shuyao was biting her lower lip, frantically racking her brain for an excuse, she heard Meng Hemian speak in a low voice…
“Just one look.”
Wen Shuyao looked up. The soft, gentle moonlight fell upon Meng Hemian, illuminating her eyes, which remained as still as stagnant water.
They were truly beautiful, like a pool of water atop a glacier, calm yet crystal clear.
In an instant, Wen Shuyao stopped thinking. Wasn’t fulfilling human wishes exactly what a little bunny was supposed to do?
She overturned her original plan and lowered her head: “Then… I’ll go home first and wait for you.”
“Why not go together?”
Meng Hemian thought to herself that it wouldn’t take much time anyway. Why was Wen Shuyao unwilling to go see the rabbit she was raising?
She clearly cared a great deal, she went to look after the little rabbits in the yard several times a day.
Wen Shuyao gripped her sleeves and began to rub them unconsciously.
She found a new reason for herself: “Because… I have to go home to change the water for the rabbits at home.”
Meng Hemian’s face remained expressionless: “You just changed it before we went out this afternoon.”
“Is that so!” Wen Shuyao’s eyes darted around, and she almost broke into a cold sweat. “But I’m worried they haven’t eaten enough.”
Feeling that this lacked persuasiveness, she softened her tone and spoke with great embarrassment: “Meng Hemian, I’m a little tired today. I want to go home and rest…”
Meng Hemian raised an eyebrow. It was as if she were watching a large rabbit caught red-handed by a predator, frantically acting cute in an attempt to bluff its way out.
Her heart softened, and she didn’t press further: “Alright then. Be careful on the way back.”
As if granted a grand pardon, Wen Shuyao waved at her and quickly slipped out of sight, vanishing in no time.
Meng Hemian found it increasingly strange. Wen Shuyao’s behavior lately had been far too abnormal.
She didn’t intend to pry into someone else’s private life, but she felt a hazy sense of unease, as if she would eventually regret not getting to the bottom of this.
The early summer night breeze brushed lightly past her ears. She temporarily pushed the chaotic thoughts from her mind, turned, and ducked into the alleyway leading to the Cat Cafe.
The wind chimes hanging on the door let out a crisp ring, signaling the arrival of a guest.
Tu Shanxiu hooked her fallen shawl back onto her arm and gave a languid yawn: “Customer, the shop is about to clo….”
She stopped what she was doing, her beautiful eyes shimmering with a lack of surprise: “It’s you.”
Meng Hemian nodded: “Yes. We met a few days ago.”
She vaguely remembered passing by her in the alley and catching a glimpse.
She didn’t usually remember people, but this woman was exceptionally glamorous, especially those upturned fox-like eyes, it was hard not to leave a deep impression.
But that impression was limited to just that.
Meng Hemian got straight to the point: “Hello, I’d like to see the rabbit Shuyao has fostered here.”
Tu Shanxiu, who had already thought of what to chat about: “…”
Under normal circumstances, shouldn’t one bring up a common topic to get acquainted? At the very least, there should be some polite small talk.
Just who was this Meng Hemian? She actually ignored her beauty as a Fox Demon just to see a little rabbit?!
Tu Shanxiu adjusted her shawl and, with a fake smile, pulled back the curtain behind the bar: “Shuyao mentioned it to me earlier. This way, please.”
Meng Hemian replied politely: “Sorry for the intrusion.”
The conversation between the human and the demon was extremely superficial and perfunctory.
Only after stepping behind the curtain did Meng Hemian realize the small shop had such a large backyard.
Nothing was missing from stone bridges to ponds and the corridors connected to ancient-style buildings, making it feel like a dream back to a previous dynasty.
At this moment, the pavilion in the middle of the yard was lit up. Meng Hemian immediately spotted the iron cage on the table.
Inside was a fluffy, short eared, light-yellow little rabbit. It was undoubtedly her “Little Bread.”
Meng Hemian didn’t even try to hide her eagerness, she walked straight over and opened the rabbit cage. Even her back radiated a sense of impatience.
But the rabbit remained motionless, its small body merely rising and falling with its breath, looking quite listless.
Having sprinted back to the Cat Cafe via a shortcut in just a few minutes, heaven knew how exhausted she was. She could only nuzzle Meng Hemian’s hand with her chin as a response.
She didn’t expect that before she could even catch her breath, she would be scooped out by Meng Hemian.
The movement was so fast she didn’t even have time to grip the cage before her body was already airborne.
Meng Hemian held the little rabbit up high, a faint smile appearing in her eyes: “Little Bread, have you been doing well lately?”
Wen Shuyao felt a bit numb: I don’t feel very well right now.
After scrutinizing it for a few seconds, Meng Hemian narrowed her eyes: “How do you seem a bit fatter? Have you been eating too much?”
Although it wasn’t very obvious, she felt certain she wasn’t mistaken. The little rabbit was a circle wider than before, especially around the waist.
To verify her judgment, she reached out to touch its belly.
The moment the warm hand touched its stomach, the little rabbit froze.
Her pregnancy instincts made her want to escape this confinement, so she kicked Meng Hemian without hesitation.
By the time she realized what she had done, the person’s arm was already red.
Meng Hemian didn’t find it particularly painful. She set the little rabbit down and poked its head.
She teased with a smile: “Why are you throwing a little tantrum?”
The little rabbit hurriedly leaned in, pressing its entire body against Meng Hemian’s hand, and began to focusedly lick the red mark on her arm.
It was as if she were trying to “lick away” her crime.
Meng Hemian found it even more amusing: “Are you apologizing?”
She used her other hand to ruffle the little rabbit’s head, her fingers tracing along the edge of the ear up to the tip, giving it a gentle squeeze.
Now, this was a big deal. “Little Bread” stopped spacing out and licking; she actively pressed her head into the palm of the hand to be nuzzled.
It felt like stroking a tiny ball of fluff.
Wherever Meng Hemian’s hand moved, the rabbit followed closely. If the hand stopped, she would nudge it with her head, signaling Meng Hemian to continue.
“How did you get addicted to this?”
Meng Hemian scooped the little rabbit up and placed it on her lap.
In the early summer courtyard, there was the sound of insects chirping. She looked down at the shimmering lights in the water, then up at the moon in the sky, behaving herself and not touching the little rabbit’s back.
She seemed to be asking herself: “To what extent must a person go to have no regrets? Should one just do whatever they think of?”
Wen Shuyao curled herself into a little bun.
She suddenly realized that the words Meng Hemian had spoken to her earlier might not have been a joke.
Perhaps she truly did have lingering regrets.
What kind of regret could a person like Meng Hemian carry for so long? After all, she looked like someone who didn’t care about anything.
Except, of course, for her own true form.
At that thought, Wen Shuyao couldn’t help but chest out, head up, and prick up her ears.
Seeing this, Meng Hemian habitually pressed the little rabbit’s ears down: “See you next time.”
It was getting late, she couldn’t keep Wen Shuyao waiting too long.
She checked the water and food in the rabbit cage one last time before turning to leave with peace of mind.
“Have to be faster…”
A blurred female voice sounded in her ear, as if separated by a film of water, making it difficult to hear clearly.
Meng Hemian frowned.
Why did that voice sound like Wen Shuyao?
She looked around, but there were only rustling flowers swaying in the yard and a rippling pond. Her “Little Bread” was squatting in the cage, spacing out.
Perhaps she had misheard. Frowning, Meng Hemian walked toward the exit of the courtyard.
At that moment, a white cat appeared out of nowhere and brushed past her feet, letting out a series of meows.
“Laugh… meow.”
Meng Hemian heard the strange female voice again.
She paused and looked up. Tu Shanxiu was just pulling back the curtain, nodding to her with a smile.
This was likely the only living person around.
She asked directly: “Sorry, I wanted to ask, was that you speaking just now?”
Tu Shanxiu covered her lips with her shawl, her face full of confusion: “No, dear guest, look closely, where would there be anyone else around here?”
Meng Hemian couldn’t help but start to wonder if she had been thinking too much and sleeping too little lately, to the point of hallucinating.
She nodded to Tu Shanxiu and walked quickly out of the cat cafe, thus failing to notice the curve of the latter’s lips hidden beneath the silk scarf.
The white cat batted a paw at the empty rabbit cage: “Giving humans Diaotang fruit violates the Bureau’s regulations.”
The Diaotang tree used to grow on Mount Yin now, only a few demons still cultivate it. Eating its fruit allows one to understand the speech of demons.
Tu Shanxiu let out a careless, soft laugh: “Oh my, why couldn’t it just be that Meng Hemian suddenly had a spiritual awakening?”
“Besides,” she spread her hands innocently and said in a dainty voice: “How would the Bureau ever come to a tiny place like Jianglou? As long as no one speaks of this, who would know?”
As she finished, the phone in Tu Shanxiu’s bag chimed. She took it out to see a cute rabbit emoji sent by Wen Shuyao.
Wen Shuyao: 【Thanks, Sister Xiu! I’ll make you roast chicken next time. ovo】
Tu Shanxiu maintained her smile, her bright red nails tapping on the screen with a da-da sound.
【The rabbit can come back, the human cannot.】
Wen Shuyao: 【QAQ】
Tu Shanxiu didn’t read anything after that. She leaned bonelessly against the railing, a hint of calculation in her brilliant smile.
“With Shuyao’s little rabbit-heart courage, when will she ever come clean? I might as well give her a little push.”
The white cat remained noncommittal. She flicked her tail and leaped lightly onto the railing to lick her paws.
“Don’t let it backfire on you, meow.”
Tu Shanxiu huffed with considerable disdain: “As if that’s possible.”
When Meng Hemian returned home, the doors were still open, and Wen Shuyao was standing in the living room drinking water.
The young woman’s cheeks were flushed crimson as she gulped down several mouthfuls of warm water.
A strand of hair by her temple had accidentally stuck to her face, the contrast of black and white exceptionally sharp.
Meng Hemian stared in silence for a long moment before speaking: “Why do you look like you ran all the way back?”
Her suspicion was not unfounded, and Wen Shuyao knew it all too well.
But what could she do when she could only come up with clumsy excuses?
Still, a bad excuse was better than coming clean.
Wen Shuyao bit her lip, tucked the messy hair behind her ear, and said obediently: “I was just doing some housework.”
Heaven knew she really had hurried the entire way, managing to beat Meng Hemian home despite taking such a long detour.
It was only after she finished running that she realized, should she have been doing such strenuous exercise?
Meng Hemian reluctantly accepted this explanation.
As she prepared to go upstairs to wash up, she didn’t forget to remind Wen Shuyao: “Get some rest early.”
Wen Shuyao nodded repeatedly, watching her leave. Finally, she let out a long sigh of relief.
So scary! She couldn’t help but grow anxious.
Today’s incident served as a reminder: “Little Bread” couldn’t stay at the cat cafe forever; there would eventually come a day when she had to be brought back.
In the past, she could use the excuse of “being at work” to muddle through, but now Tu Shanxiu had strictly forbidden her from returning to the shop. The time she spent with Meng Hemian had increased significantly.
When that time came, how could Wen Shuyao and “Little Bread” appear together!
Wen Shuyao crouched down in agony, clutching her head. There were flaws everywhere, how was she supposed to patch up these holes?
The little rabbit demon was so worried her brain felt like it was about to burn out!
Just then, a dull pain suddenly flared up in her abdomen, as if punishing her for ignoring her physical condition today.
As her spiritual energy surged uncontrollably, her tailbone felt itchy and numb. Without even looking, she knew her tail had popped out.
Wen Shuyao’s eyes grew watery; she could hardly suppress the urge to cry.
But then, the sound of Meng Hemian’s footsteps suddenly came from the stairs.
“Shuyao, Wan Xianyu invited us to a riverside barbecue tomorrow. Do you want to go?”
Wen Shuyao sat huddled blankly in the corner of the sofa, too tormented by the dull pain to even move.
This was truly a case of adding frost to snow!
