Zuo Xian: “Why not?” …
Zuo Xian: “Why not?”
“You can, why couldn’t you.” Xue Shuangxi took three seconds to smoothly accept the news, and then asked, “So what are you going to do now? Are you planning to have a secret crush, or…”
“Of course I’m going to pursue her,” Zuo Xian said as a matter of course.
Xue Shuangxi gave her a thumbs-up. “Commendable courage, daring to pursue a straight girl.”
At the mention of this, Zuo Xian’s high morale was like being splashed with a basin of cold water. Tao Ran’s astonished eyes from last night seemed to reappear before her.
“Have you looked into lesbians before?” Xue Shuangxi suddenly asked. Zuo Xian was startled.
She replied, “No.”
She had never thought about the issue of sexual orientation before, nor had she ever liked anyone. When she realized she liked Tao Ran, she naturally accepted the fact.
Xue Shuangxi enthusiastically said, “I have tons of lesbian resources here—movies, novels, and some forum links. I’ll push them all to you, maybe they can help you in your pursuit.”
“Really? Xue Shuangxi, you are too kind!” Zuo Xian’s eyes sparkled with gratitude.
“What I’m giving you is all my private collection,” Xue Shuangxi whispered. “I wouldn’t give this to anyone else. Oh, for safety, you… don’t watch it outside, watch it alone.”
Zuo Xian, at the moment, didn’t take Xue Shuangxi’s advice seriously, only thinking Xue Shuangxi was worried about her coming out in public.
In the evening, she found some free time. After washing up, she nestled in bed with her tablet and opened the cloud drive link Xue Shuangxi had sent her.
The cloud drive contained full-length film and television resources that couldn’t be found on domestic platforms.
Zuo Xian clicked open the drive. She disliked wearing headphones, so she used the external speaker. She sifted through a row of movies and clicked on one with a literary-sounding name.
The network quality was poor, and a spinning circle appeared on the screen. Zuo Xian picked up the water cup beside her and took a sip.
A woman’s soft moans and gasps came from the speaker. Zuo Xian choked on the sip of water, frozen in place as if a spell had been cast on her.
The camera slowly shifted: a vibrating headboard, a woman’s slightly furrowed brows, an expression that seemed both painful and joyful, and intertwined bodies.
Zuo Xian quickly paused the video, flipped the tablet over, and covered it on her lap.
Her heart pounded fiercely, threatening to burst out of her chest. A wave of heat rose from her neck, making her cheeks flush.
Zuo Xian blinked blankly, her clear pupils filled with shock.
A sentence flashed through her mind: No wonder these couldn’t be watched on domestic platforms.
On Monday, Zuo Xian walked to school alone this time.
Grandma Liu was worried that Zuo Xian would be late, because previously Zuo Xian only leisurely got up when Tao Ran arrived, always rushing to make it to school just in time.
But surprisingly, Zuo Xian woke up early. As soon as Grandma Liu finished preparing breakfast, she turned around and saw that Zuo Xian was already ready.
Grandma Liu paused for a moment, then smiled. “Xianzai, you’re up! Today we’re having your favorite soup dumplings.”
Zuo Xian had faint dark circles under her eyes. She smiled and said, “Great.”
After breakfast, Zuo Xian took the car to school.
The semester was nearing its end, and the teachers stopped teaching new material. Instead, they circled back for consolidation, with almost every class dedicated to reviewing test papers.
Exams, reviewing papers, exams, reviewing papers. It was a constant cycle.
The atmosphere in the class was much quieter than usual. Fewer people were goofing off during breaks, making it somewhat dull.
After a whole day, Zuo Xian’s head was crammed with knowledge. She left the school gate feeling dizzy.
As she stepped out of the gate, her eyes scanned the opposite side of the street and suddenly lit up.
Across the street, Zuo Zhimi was leaning against a silver sedan, waving at Zuo Xian.
“Mom!” Zuo Xian crossed the crosswalk and immediately rushed into Zuo Zhimi’s arms.
Zuo Zhimi hugged her daughter and rubbed the back of her head. “Xianzai, was school tiring today?”
“I’m exhausted,” Zuo Xian complained affectionately with a long face. “Mom, why did you come today?”
“Mom’s been busy for a while and hasn’t had time to see you. I’m free today, so I’m treating you to a big dinner tonight, okay?” Zuo Zhimi cupped her daughter’s cheeks and rubbed them. Her heart was melting from her daughter’s cuteness.
“Your Aunt Jiang is coming too. The two of us had planned to take you and Ranran together for a while, but unfortunately, Ranran had something to do and went to her dad’s.”
At the mention of Tao Ran, a flash of disappointment crossed Zuo Xian’s eyes, but she quickly smiled again.
“Come on, get in the car.”
Zuo Xian opened the passenger door, got in, and buckled her seatbelt.
The car slowly started and drove toward the destination. Zuo Xian took out her phone to share the news about the dinner with Tao Ran.
Tao Ran had mentioned that she would be quite busy during this period, and due to the time difference between them, her messages might not be answered immediately.
Zuo Xian put her phone aside after sending the message.
“Little CEO Tao, these files record the company’s profits and losses in recent years, the cooperation plans for major projects, and the business partners we’ve dealt with. Please have a look.”
“Mm.” Tao Ran flipped through the documents without looking up. “You can leave.”
The clock on the office wall ticked softly. It was already past twelve. The secretary looked at Tao Ran, hesitating whether to speak.
The secretary’s younger sister was also a teenager, yet she was much more childlike than the Little CEO Tao in front of her, running wild and giving everyone a headache at home.
Meanwhile, the Little CEO Tao, not yet an adult, had to bear the pressure of achieving results for her family and was currently so busy she had forgotten to eat lunch.
Though she shouldn’t, whenever the secretary looked at her direct superior, she couldn’t help but think of her sister, and a surge of motherly affection would arise.
“Who compiled these documents?” Tao Ran scanned the files submitted by the secretary. A hint of dissatisfaction flashed in her eyes. “Do you not know how to use basic work software? Redo a copy and submit it.”
The secretary’s motherly affection was instantly shattered. She nodded apologetically.
She was so busy pitying her for being a child that she almost forgot she was a capitalist’s child. Better to pity herself than her.
And that annoying foreigner who was brought in through connections. The moment she wasn’t watching, she caused trouble for her.
The secretary pushed the door open, ready to leave, but paused by the door, turning around. “Little CEO Tao, it’s lunch hour now. Should I ask someone to pack a meal from the cafeteria and bring it up for you?”
Lunch hour?
Tao Ran finally looked up at the clock, then nodded. “Mm, thank you for the trouble.”
“It’s no trouble at all, it’s my job.”
The sound of the door closing was soft. Tao Ran leaned back against her neck pillow, closed her eyes, and rested for five minutes.
Five minutes later, she opened her phone and saw the message from Zuo Xian.
Mom and Aunt Jiang are treating me to a big dinner today.
Who dares to smell it?
Tao Ran chuckled softly and replied: [It looks delicious.
Zuo Xian: [When you get back, I, your elder sister, will treat you with my private stash.
Zuo Xian was indeed about half a year older than Tao Ran, but she rarely referred to herself as ‘elder sister.’ Tao Ran found it somewhat new.
After chatting for a while, there was a knock on the office door. Tao Ran looked up and said, “Come in.”
The secretary walked in, carrying the packed meal. She caught the gentle smile still lingering on the corners of Tao Ran’s eyes and brows, and she was momentarily stunned.
Before she could look closer, that gentle expression vanished, replaced by the usual cold and serious Tao Ran, who nodded to her.
“Just place it on the coffee table.”
“Alright.”
