My Sister Never Said She Was a Creepy Tale - Chapter 73
Sinking into the comfortable sofa, Yue Yiyue watched the leaping flames of the fire. The window beside her showed the dazzling city view bathed in neon lights from the distance.
It was only then that Yue Yiyue realized it was already night.
She picked up the unfinished scarf: “Alright, I understand what you mean. Actually, you don’t need all this beating around the bush.”
Yue Yiyue looked at the familiar knitting pattern, lowering her eyes and feeling the soft texture: “How about I tell you what just happened to me?”
The light music in the room served as an excellent accompaniment, adding a touch of warmth to the atmosphere.
The Curator leaned back on the sofa, hugging a pillow, and listened intently as Yue Yiyue recounted her experience.
Her expression was focused and serious, afraid of missing any of Yue Yiyue’s reactions.
Yue Yiyue, meanwhile, was focused on the scarf in her hands, knitting quickly and expertly while seamlessly narrating the story.
The burning fireplace crackled, and outside the window, the continuous rain began to fall again.
Yue Yiyue inadvertently looked up at the window, which was now covered with mist: “This is truly a wonderful place.”
“It is, at least for them right now,” the Curator said, walking to the glass. She extended a slender finger. A plain ring on her middle finger glowed silver in the dim, warm light.
As her hand moved, a cute smiling face appeared on the window, with a small heart drawn beside it.
“It’s going to snow soon.” She looked like she was gazing out the window, but only the Curator knew she was looking at the reflection of that figure.
Damn it, she can’t be with her all the time…
She was the one who came first…
Damn it, why, why can’t she stay with Yue Yiyue forever?
When will this gamble finally end?
Just the reunion was enough to trigger her anxiety about loss.
How wonderful it would be if she could stay here with Yue Yiyue for all eternity.
Just let Mu Hongcai’s plan proceed…
The moment this thought occurred, the Curator suddenly felt a tingling sensation in her legs. She collapsed powerlessly onto the thick cashmere rug.
Specks of blood sprayed from her mouth, quickly staining a small patch of her clothes.
Hearing the commotion, Yue Yiyue looked up and saw the exquisite face become even paler, tears welling up in her eyes, with her slightly curly hair covering most of her face.
The Curator turned her head away in a state of disarray. Her voice trembled slightly: “I’m sorry, my old illness has flared up again.”
The moisture outside seemed to have permeated the window glass. Yue Yiyue felt a chilly, ominous presence surrounding her, flickering in and out of closeness.
Yue Yiyue looked up and saw the Curator looking fragile, as if she might faint at any moment. She quickly put the scarf aside and rushed forward in a panic to help her up.
“It’s nothing…” The Curator raised her hand to wipe the foam of blood from her mouth, then leaned weakly onto Yue Yiyue, listening to her steady heartbeat: “It’s an old affliction.”
She sighed softly: “Maintaining this place is still a bit difficult relying solely on me.”
“But it’s alright, I will try my best.” As she said this, she smiled gently, the resolve in her eyes shining astonishingly bright.
Yue Yiyue helped her sit properly on the sofa. Assuring herself that the person was fine, she frantically searched the room for a place to get water.
Lying on the sofa, the Curator watched Yue Yiyue busy herself. She complained in a low voice.
“Yiyue, the cup is on the table next to the cabinet, and the water is in the room with the blue sign.” Yue Yiyue’s departure made her feel slightly unhappy. The raindrops outside the window continued to tap.
She sighed, leaning back on the sofa, murmuring softly about why it was taking so long and why Yue Yiyue wasn’t back yet. Another sigh followed. She had been locked up in this cursed place for too long; her concept of time had become this blurred mess.
Yue Yiyue stood at the door of the room with the blue sign. There was no water dispenser here.
Logically, she should have turned around and left.
But there was a familiar sculpture standing in the center of the room.
It made her suspicious.
It was her face.
That ordinary face she occasionally saw in the mirror.
Just as the person surnamed Mu had been striving to sculpt the goddess in her heart.
The statue here seemed to have a certain, unspoken purpose as well.
Yue Yiyue quickly scrolled through her memories, finding no surplus impression of the Curator as a person.
Could it be during the time she had amnesia? No, that’s impossible.
Yu An had mentioned that the person always by her side was Gu Nanqiu.
In a flash of realization, Yue Yiyue remembered Zhou Qingyi’s words…
But they clearly looked different.
Gu Ye…
The Curator…
Gu… Gu…
Ye… Yue…
Yue Qiu? (Yue meaning ‘Wild’ – Wild Autumn?)
It was as if something had suddenly clicked for Yue Yiyue.
Even Yu An’s previous words took on a deeper meaning.
This place was also very strange—the identical preferred furnishings.
The unfinished scarf, knitted with her familiar crochet style.
The freckled sculpture near the door, which she had initially thought only the freckles resembled her, but now, the more Yue Yiyue recalled it, the more she felt it was herself.
Yue Yiyue calmly closed the door and turned to another room that also had a blue sign. This sign had a cute, handwritten character:.
The handwriting looked somewhat similar to her own.
Once suspicion was born, Yue Yiyue started to overthink.
She calmly poured the warm water and walked back to the original spot, handing the cup to the Curator, who was curled up on the sofa.
Then, she closely observed the Curator’s appearance.
“So slow—” The Curator complained softly, but when she touched the water, which was exactly the temperature she liked, she cheered up a little. Her lips curled upward. It seemed Yue Yiyue’s memory loss didn’t affect her kindness towards her.
Thinking this, the Curator’s complexion improved slightly. She held the cup and took small sips.
Yue Yiyue realized that the Curator’s appearance was completely different from Gu Nanqiu’s, which shouldn’t be the case.
She had just let out a sigh of relief, thinking she might have been overthinking, when the next moment, her gaze fell upon the small mole on the Curator’s collarbone.
Yue Yiyue flinched and took a step back.
Hearing the movement, the Curator looked up. She looked at Yue Yiyue: “Hmm? What is it?”
“Nothing.” Yue Yiyue closed her eyes. After confirming that she would immediately forget the Curator’s appearance upon closing her eyes, certain suspicions were quietly confirmed in her heart.
She stiffly returned to her spot, picked up the scarf, and continued knitting.
Speaking of which, on Mu’s side, there was a nameplate with the character on it.
At the time, she thought it was just a coincidence.
Due to her fondness for those characters, Yue Yiyue hadn’t slipped anything into the water she poured.
But what if that 秋 referred to “The Curator”?
Her mind was filled with Yu An’s phrase: “Do not let Gu Nanqiu know.”
If her relationship with Gu Nanqiu was as close as Yu An said, then why couldn’t her memory recovery be known to the other party?
Yue Yiyue mentally replayed all the past details.
Gu Ye was exceptionally close to her, and so was Ye Qiu (Wild Autumn)…
Vaguely, Yue Yiyue remembered Ye Qiu smoking that day. Her movements seemed somewhat similar to the boss from whom she delivered her last takeout order.
“That’s right, Yiyue, I have two blue signs here.” The Curator seemed to have recovered. She stroked the fuzzy blanket: “One room has the water dispenser. The other room contains some of my more personal items.”
The subtle pause made Yue Yiyue’s heart pound. The Curator’s address for her had subtly changed into the chant-like “Yiyue.”
It was like a collar.
Yue Yiyue sighed inwardly. Never mind. If they were all Gu Nanqiu, then she should still treat them fairly, as she always did.
She couldn’t let a certain ‘Qiu’ be sad…
“Did you go into the wrong room?” The Curator looked at Yue Yiyue apologetically: “If you went inside, you might trigger something bad.”
It certainly was bad, Yue Yiyue thought, but she didn’t show it: “No.”
By now, the scarf was in the final stages. Yue Yiyue finished the last stitch, looking at the intricate pattern. Satisfied, she picked up the scarf and walked over to the Curator.
She put it on her.
The face that was forgotten the moment she looked away became small and cute, framed by the scarf.
Yue Yiyue gestured: “There, I finished knitting it for you.”
“What rooms?” She looked at the Curator confusedly: “Only, is your name Qiu, Curator?”
“Or do you have another alias?”
“The room I went into was the one with the blue sign that read ‘Qiu.’ I only noticed the water dispenser.”
“I see.” The Curator sighed inexplicably: “Thank you for finishing the scarf.”
“It seems I have no excuse to keep you here anymore. It’s good that you didn’t go into the wrong room.”
“Then you should go out yourself. Someone is waiting for you at the door.” She leaned back on the sofa, looking at the clock: “Someone will tell you what the next step is.”
“Now, we both need to rest.”
The moment Yue Yiyue stepped out, she saw the staff member sitting on a nearby chair.
Hearing the movement, she immediately put away her phone and stood up.
She stated that Yue Yiyue’s beautiful friend had already returned to the hotel, and the other person had simply left after saying she would be in touch later.
When Yue Yiyue tried to look back, the staff member expressionlessly stopped her. She led Yue Yiyue through a white door: “If you look back, I won’t let you leave.”
The statement was sudden and lacked context, perhaps a hidden rule.
She didn’t dare to violate it carelessly.
Walking through the narrow corridor, Yue Yiyue saw the hotel lobby.
It seemed these places were interconnected.
“Thank you.”
The staff member simply placed the bag she was carrying back into Yue Yiyue’s hand, smiled slightly, and walked towards the other side.
Yue Yiyue looked at the two items of clothing in the bag…
Another small detail.
Returning to the hotel room.
Yue Yiyue saw Gu Nanqiu lying on the sofa, staring intently at her computer.
She seemed to have been back for a long time.
On the table was a takeout container, opened and only partially eaten.
Another untouched container was likely left for her.
For some unknown reason, she was wearing a pair of gold-rimmed glasses, which gave her an intellectual look.
Hearing the sound of the door opening, she didn’t smile at Yue Yiyue or ask why she was back so late, but remained focused on the screen.
Yue Yiyue changed her shoes and casually took off her sweater.
She walked towards the bathroom wearing only her inner clothes.
“There’s a bathrobe next to you. Put it on so you don’t catch a cold, Yiyue.” The woman was clearly looking at the computer, yet she instantly reminded Yue Yiyue where something was.
Yue Yiyue gave a perfunctory reply.
“Did you go there too?”
