My Sister Never Said She Was a Creepy Tale - Chapter 60
Perhaps it was due to the rapid heating and cooling in that house. By evening, Yue Yiyao felt dizzy, had a headache, and her body was cold.
This feeling was utterly unfamiliar. It was Gu Nanqiu who pointed out that Yue Yiyao looked unwell, noting that her exhaled breath was too hot.
She then smoothly slipped a thermometer into Yue Yiyao’s hand.
Yue Yiyao touched her forehead; it didn’t feel hot.
To reassure Gu Nanqiu, Yue Yiyao still took her temperature.
Gu Ye had already fetched the medicine box, along with a cup of warm water and a cup of cold water.
Under Gu Nanqiu’s direction, Gu Ye entered the room, grabbed a small blanket, and tossed it onto the sofa. She also closed the balcony door tightly.
Gu Nanqiu, meanwhile, turned on the projector and put on a movie. It was an old film from the last century.
Yue Yiyao glanced at it; it was a road trip movie filmed over ten years ago, about the amusing events that happen when two women from different social classes travel together.
“Looks pretty good.” Yue Yiyao stood up and took a couple of steps. The dizzying, lightheaded sensation was something she wasn’t used to.
Shaking her head, Yue Yiyao grabbed some snacks from the nearby cabinet: “What else do you want to eat? Beef jerky? Where’s my phone? Order milk tea for yourselves; I want a hot one.”
Gu Nanqiu waved Yue Yiyao’s phone in her hand: “I’m looking at some data on your phone.”
Saying this, Gu Nanqiu gave a meaningful look to Gu Ye, who was busily moving around: “No drinks tonight. Tomorrow. I’ll make you ginger soup and boil some warm water. I happened to buy you a thermos recently when the weather started to cool down. It’s perfect for now.”
“You talk as if I’m really sick.” Yue Yiyao felt a little dissatisfied that Gu Nanqiu was treating her like a sick patient. Gu Ye quietly reminded Yue Yiyao that the time was up.
Under the fluorescent light, Yue Yiyao looked up and watched the mercury climb past the red 37∘C mark, finally settling at 38.2∘C.
The words she was about to say caught in her throat. Yue Yiyao now felt hot all over: “Where’s the medicine?”
Gu Ye pointed to the small table nearby: “Use the cool water for the capsules. Then sit on the sofa and watch a movie to relax.”
Afraid that Yue Yiyao would force herself to stay awake and watch the film, Gu Ye added: “Gu Nanqiu specifically chose one that’s hypnotic. If you get sleepy, just fall asleep. You’ll be fine after a good rest.”
“Thank you.” Yue Yiyao simply thought Gu Ye’s thoughtfulness meant she was growing into a capable adult.
At least when dealing with things like a common cold, their actions were much more practiced and smooth.
The former Yue Yiyao had a fever before, but rarely. Her health was generally good; usually, she would just lie in bed and sweat it out. This was the first time she had experienced being handed a blanket and having someone help her with medicine.
The pot in the kitchen was gurgling; Gu Nanqiu was making ginger soup.
This feeling of being cared for was truly subtle.
When Gu Ye pressed her down onto the sofa, Yue Yiyao still felt a bit awkward.
But when Gu Ye drew the curtains closed, leaving only a dim floor lamp on, Yue Yiyao wrapped herself tightly in the blanket and decided it was quite nice.
At least she wasn’t lying alone in that small room, with unavoidable takeout containers sitting on the floor.
Gu Ye stood for a moment, staring at the living room, then she sat on the fluffy carpet, leaning against Yue Yiyao’s leg: “You’ll be fine by tomorrow morning.”
“I didn’t know you were such a miracle doctor, Gu Ye,” Yue Yiyao teased slightly: “And you two, too. You seemed to know I had a fever before I even finished measuring my temperature. Do you have some unique secret?”
Gu Ye looked up at Yue Yiyao, her gaze sliding down to the watch on Yue Yiyao’s wrist. The value on it was steadily climbing, approaching 85.
“It’s a secret. You’ll know naturally when you remember later.” Gu Ye listened to Yue Yiyao’s breathing, which was slightly faster than usual due to the fever.
She can’t let herself recall any more. If she recalls more, she won’t want to leave.
The projection screen showed green mountains and clear water, beautiful scenery, and the two main actors laughing heartily. They were holding local specialty foods, showcasing their leisurely vacation to the camera.
Everything looked particularly good.
Gu Nanqiu brought over the ginger soup, which was just the right temperature. She looked down at Gu Ye, who looked like a small dog about to be abandoned. She sighed inwardly. If only Gu Ye was as well-behaved as she appeared.
But Gu Ye has to go back. The most malicious part of Gu Nanqiu’s inner self was popping a champagne bottle.
After tonight, she would transform Gu Ye in Yue Yiyao’s memories into an NPC that briefly passed through her life. This was also a small punishment for Gu Ye.
Intentionally losing to Wu Zhen, feigning a broken state. Gu Nanqiu had only tolerated it because she was young.
But she had just seen the text messages and realized Yue Yiyao hadn’t told Gu Ye where she went or if she needed help.
Then Wu Zhen’s subsequent frenzy to seize her power made sense.
But one question remained: if their memories were shared, why could Gu Ye still pull small stunts?
It doesn’t matter. After all, only she could truly stand by Yue Yiyao’s side.
Gu Nanqiu tried to make her feigned concern less obvious. She patted the chair next to her: “Gu Ye, wouldn’t the spot here be more comfortable?”
Gu Ye looked up, struggling not to roll her eyes: “No thanks. I chose this spot myself.”
The last two words were pronounced with emphasis.
Yue Yiyao didn’t understand the subtle conflict between them.
She simply downed the ginger soup, pulled Gu Nanqiu down onto the sofa, and quietly recounted what happened in the previous segment of the story.
Afraid of passing her cold to Gu Nanqiu, Yue Yiyao nudged Gu Ye with her foot, signaling her to move over to give her and Gu Nanqiu some distance.
Before Yue Yiyao could move, Gu Nanqiu explained first: “You won’t, Yiyao. This isn’t the flu; it’s not contagious. Trust me.”
Hearing that voice, Yue Yiyao momentarily felt dazed. Then she leaned her head against Gu Nanqiu’s shoulder.
Gu Nanqiu silently lamented.
How wonderful it would be if it were contagious. Then both their bodies would be feverish, giving her a reason to embrace Yue Yiyao, whisper in her ear, and stroke her soft skin.
She could also bury her face in Yue Yiyao’s chest and, while the other was drowsy, carelessly leave her own mark on that beautiful body.
After all, Yue Yiyao wouldn’t mind such small details.
As long as things didn’t go all the way, she would always find a suitable excuse for herself.
Yue Yiyao felt two indescribable stares intently fixed on her.
“Why are you staring at me instead of watching the movie? Do you think my fever is weird?” She grabbed snacks from the side and stuffed them into both their laps: “I’m just an ordinary person.”
“If I fall asleep later, remember to cover me with a blanket.” Yue Yiyao yawned. Due to the fever, her mind wasn’t processing things quickly: “The medicine seems to be kicking in.”
Half an hour later, only the movie was diligently playing in the living room, with tranquil music accompanying the lovely grassland scenery.
The living room was long empty.
Gu Nanqiu looked at Yue Yiyao, who was lying in bed with fine sweat on her forehead.
The tentacles placed a basin of hot water and a towel nearby.
After the sound of sloshing water, Gu Nanqiu used the perfectly warm towel to meticulously wipe the sweat from Yue Yiyao’s body.
Gu Ye pulled out a set of pajamas similar in color to her own clothes from the side and placed them on the bed: “Too bad I can’t participate in this activity, stingy Nanqiu.”
“What’s the big deal? Didn’t Yue Yiyao take care of you like this before?”
Recalling those times, Gu Nanqiu’s gaze softened again: “She thought you were a baby who hadn’t been weaned yet. She fed you milk and even gave you baths. That’s a treatment we never received. You should be content.”
Gu Ye listened to her jealous tone. They were the same entity, yet they were jealous of each other.
Of course, I’m not a good monster either.
“But so what? Under the rules, she can’t remember me anymore.” Yue Yiyao had fallen into a deep sleep. Gu Ye didn’t bother pretending to be a good child anymore. She hooked her long leg, sat on the chair beside the bed, and took a cigarette from her pocket. Out of respect for Yue Yiyao’s presence, she just held it in her mouth without lighting it.
“And yet, she’s still instinctively kind to you,” Gu Nanqiu’s hand stroked the slightly rough, weathered face of Gu Ye. She increasingly liked the small freckles on it.
“But you still want to violate Yue Yiyao’s wishes, kill me, replace me, and stay by her side.”
“If the Main God hadn’t arranged for the medical examiner to watch, you would have joined Wu Zhen and the others to ambush and kill me long ago,” Gu Nanqiu glanced at Gu Ye: “Don’t forget, I am different from you all. I am the strand personally chosen by Yue Yiyao; I am her designated heroine.”
The moment she spoke, the phone vibrated frantically, and a clatter sounded from outside the window. It was as if something was urgently expressing its dissatisfaction.
Gu Nanqiu glanced at the lunatic who had broken down and spammed messages, driving the count straight past 99+.
“She’s also useless; she can’t even manage to be a dog. If she ever makes things difficult for Yue Yiyao in the future, they all deserve to die a thousand times.”
Gu Ye was dressed casually and showed no sign of embarrassment at having her motives exposed by Gu Nanqiu: “I know. I am you, and you are me. The gamble can only be truly completed when we all return to the main body and hear that specific phrase.”
“Didn’t I complete my part of the gamble well? Although during the process, I arranged for that idiot (Wu Zhen) to lock you up there, I didn’t successfully kill you. You’re still alive, aren’t you?” The innocent look in Gu Ye’s eyes vanished completely.
She thought her attempts to trick Wu Zhen into stealing Gu Nanqiu’s power had been well hidden. Including later pretending to be that voice.
She must have been too quick in her appearance, which made Gu Nanqiu suspicious.
Checking Yue Yiyao’s phone revealed that Yue Yiyao hadn’t notified her to go to that place; she had only looked at the lunatic’s messages.
What to do next was taught to her by the lunatic (He Wu’s entity). The lunatic might not be lucid, but she was a very useful monster.
“I’m willing to lose the bet,” Gu Ye said. “The information I gave you is all true, by the way.”
“Just a reminder: some of them have advanced to the point where they can stop sharing memories. I learned that from the lunatic,” Gu Ye praised while having no qualms about selling out the lunatic: “I’ll go back now. I’ll go back immediately. Otherwise, the lunatic will eat me and merge with me.”
Gu Ye shed her pitiful facade. She raised an eyebrow, looking at Yue Yiyao lying on the bed with a hint of regret: “I hope next time, she remembers that I once appeared in her past.”
“Oh, if she really wipes out my memory, Yue Yiyao will be angry, right? After all, the lunatic did that once, which is why she was locked up miserably in City A.”
“Do you think she’ll do it again this time?”
