- Chapter 101 - Gu He is Silent, Merely Playing the Role of a Master
“The other three pillars of this Eight Characters (Bāzì) are accurate, but if it were to be stained with the blood of the Bāzì owner, it could turn into a killing array.”
Yue Yiyue didn’t quite understand how Gu He deduced that this wasn’t the other person’s Bāzì just by looking at the items in the room and the numbers on this piece of paper.
First, he said there was no blood and the timing was off, and now he was talking about it becoming some kind of killing array. Yue Yiyue stared at Gu He with an expression typical of someone scrutinizing a charlatan.
Gu He noticed the distrust in Yue Yiyue’s eyes. He raised an eyebrow and looked at her with a half-smile: “The owner of this Bāzì must be very beautiful.”
Hearing this, Yue Yiyue glanced at the photo placed nearby. Isn’t that something obvious to anyone?
She even felt that in the next second, Gu He would pull something out and offer to ward off disaster and bring fortune for a low price, saying, “Not 9999, not 999, but only 888.”
Gu He saw the heightened vigilance in Yue Yiyue’s eyes and didn’t waste any more words: “The owner of this Bāzì should be over 1.7 meters tall. Her personality appears forceful, but in reality, she is very easygoing.”
“She has only one mother, but she probably hasn’t lived with her for a long time. The person she currently lives with should be a friend, or her dearest love.”
Gu He paused here: “This Bāzì owner’s academic performance should be excellent, but she is surrounded by many petty people. To be frank, it would have been very difficult for her to find a suitable partner in the preceding years.”
“She studies computer science, doesn’t she?”
The sound of skepticism was swallowed by Yue Yiyue. The doubt in her eyes gradually turned into trust.
When Gu He mentioned that Gu Nanqiu only had a mother, her gaze gained a measure of respect.
“Your friend has been afflicted by the ‘Peach Blossom Evil’ (Táohuā Shà) from last year up until this year. At the same time, her ‘Red Luan Star’ (Hóngluán Xīng) has also moved.”
Yue Yiyue was somewhat confused by this, so she asked with a thirst for knowledge: “What does all this mean?”
“It means that some people who like her actually want her life, while at the same time, the person who genuinely loves her has appeared.”
Gu He tapped his fingers again, adopting a theatrical demeanor: “The partner indicated by this Bāzì is no ordinary person.”
“At the very least, this soul has not been living in this world for quite some time. Their birthday is around March, with a Taurus Ascendant, Sun in Pisces, and Moon in Aries. Their height should only be slightly shorter than hers, and they probably enjoy some form of sports.”
“They should be similar to this ‘Gu’ person, maintaining contact only with their mother.”
Upon hearing this, Yue Yiyue jumped to her feet. She awkwardly stomped her foot: “I apologize, my leg has gone a little numb. Master, what else can you see?”
Seeing that “Master Gu” was tiring himself out by squatting, Yue Yiyue eagerly ran to the side, grabbed a small stool, wiped it clean with her sleeve, and respectfully placed it next to Gu He. She also brought him a cup of water.
She completely forgot about Zhou Qingyi waiting for them somewhere else.
Yue Yiyue listened for half an hour, understanding that Gu Nanqiu’s fated partner was diligent, not good at cooking, quick-witted, enjoyed decorating their small home, liked garden plants, was fond of cats, and had a slight inferiority complex.
Her heart raced, especially when the Master said that, based on the readings, the two of them should already be living together.
Her ears turned half red.
Fated lover—she truly loved that term.
She desperately wanted to show Gu He her own Bāzì, but she feared he would see that she was a soul from another world. She cleared her throat: “Thank you, Master, for dispelling my confusion. According to your explanation, this Zhou Qingyi is very likely Gu’s ‘Peach Blossom Evil.'”
“In that case, do you sense any kind of array formation in this maze? Or, how should we resolve Gu’s Peach Blossom Evil?”
Gu He sat on the chair: “I thought you would ask me to see who your destined partner is. I didn’t expect you to still be thinking about Zhou Qingyi.”
She stood up, yawned, and collapsed onto the sofa: “Most of the array formations here are related to money and draining people’s vital energy.”
“To break this Peach Blossom Evil, you must find a way to sever this ill-fated connection from its root.”
Yue Yiyue understood. In short, Zhou Qingyi was still seeking the same old three things: longevity, power, and a beautiful woman. However, his methods were more sinister and involved some folk customs.
Sever it from the root, huh? Yue Yiyue pondered how she could kill Zhou Qingyi—a physical severance—without involving the law.
After a moment of thought, Yue Yiyue’s legs were fully rested. She drained the remaining water on the table.
She then realized: “When did a mineral water bottle and a disposable cup appear here?”
“Oh, I picked them up when I passed a vendor. I also have two pancakes. I’ll give them to you if you get hungry later.”
Opening the door, Yue Yiyue saw that the maze-like corridor was now lined with portraits.
Picture after picture of identical portraits with different expressions stretched forward. They looked largely the same, and the scene was rather terrifying.
Yue Yiyue took a sharp breath. As she stepped out, the pitch-black eyes in the portraits immediately fixed on her shoes, shimmering with a strange light. Yue Yiyue sensitively detected that this was the emotion of hunger.
They were alive.
Yue Yiyue was certain that the moment they completely stepped out of the room, they would be immediately torn apart and chewed to shreds by the beings.
This stopped Yue Yiyue from acting rashly. She withdrew her foot and closed the door.
This inexplicable action made Gu He, who was behind her, a bit puzzled. She walked over and pressed the door handle: “What’s wrong? Surely the outside isn’t…”
“So many people—”
Hearing Gu He’s exclamation, Yue Yiyue nodded: “Do you think if we walk out now, they will all crawl out and chase after us?”
Yue Yiyue scrutinized Gu He, thinking about how she would need to put on a hat and sunglasses when they went out.
It wouldn’t be easy to run.
“How about I go draw those things outside away first?” Yue Yiyue considered this the best solution for the moment.
Gu He carefully opened the door again. The outside was still unchanged.
She took off her jacket and tossed it on the sofa: “Forget it. We haven’t gathered all the information in the room yet.”
With that, she rolled up her sleeves and began to search the side of the sofa, simultaneously directing Yue Yiyue to search the drawers of the cabinet nearby.
Gu He seemed to find searching in silence boring, so she started telling Yue Yiyue stories about her time in the Special Bureau: things like a junior missing a rule, which led to them being chased by the “Five-Three Alien Head” all over the school.
She talked about how they planned to surround and capture a “Pigeon Head,” only to wake up and find that a few pre-college students had solved it. Unfortunately, those children suffered heavy casualties, with only two surviving and being handed over to the Special Bureau doctor.
Yue Yiyue felt a bit embarrassed to admit that she was one of those students, so she focused even harder on scavenging the room.
Pulling out a drawer and carefully feeling the top of it, her finger touched something hard. Yue Yiyue collected herself and pulled out the stiff paper inside. On it was scrawled, messy handwriting: She said this thing requires an array eye born in the same year, same month, and same day to begin.
Looking at the torn-off part of the paper, she wondered, No way. Does she really want me to piece this whole thing together from rooms with purple doors?
She reached deeper into the cabinet and felt several identical pieces of cardboard in the middle partition.
The first one read: So many of me. I can’t even tell who I am anymore.
Turning to the next sheet: I found out. They are very sensitive to color. They hate purple and love white. They even believe that anyone wearing a white top is one of them.
Finally seeing crucial information, Yue Yiyue looked back at Gu He, who was still rummaging in the corner. She raised her hand: “I found it!”
“What is it?” Gu He walked over and looked at the item in Yue Yiyue’s hand. She didn’t immediately look for white clothing. Instead, she had Yue Yiyue search the area again to see if she could find anything new.
Yue Yiyue didn’t understand, but she complied.
After a little while longer, she placed the paper she had found onto the table.
Putting it together, the message roughly stated that by wearing white clothes and pretending not to see the monsters, this rule would become completely ineffective upon reaching the next purple room.
Fortunately, Gu He was meticulous and reliable in this regard and was a good teammate, otherwise, Yue Yiyue would have planned to charge straight to the maze’s exit wearing the white jacket.
She noted down the need to possibly piece together the rules in her mind and found a white jacket among the pile of clothes on the sofa.
Thinking of the things outside, Yue Yiyue took a deep breath.
The door opened once more. This time, the picture frames were completely empty.
Yue Yiyue looked toward the corridor ahead with a sense of certainty. Figures dressed in white wandered aimlessly down the hall.
At this point, Yue Yiyue and Gu He confirmed that the maze was not only used to imprison “Grandmother Zhou” but also to trap these “people.”
But what if Zhou Qingyi released these “people” one day?
Paying attention to the direction of the tree branches while navigating past these “people,” Yue Yiyue and Gu He both pretended not to see them.
Even if one “person” was only half a body, wriggling oddly on the ground.
Even if another “person” had a huge head floating in the air—they continued to move forward without changing their expressions.
Turning the third corner, Yue Yiyue finally saw the new purple door.
However, a “person” was standing in front of it. They had a notebook head and were muttering at the entrance: “I can’t find it. Why can’t I find it?”
“It should clearly be around here.”
“Small and round.”
“Where is my gold coin?”
“Why is my gold coin missing?”
Yue Yiyue stopped Gu He’s forward progress and pointed to the other side.
A small, round gold coin lay on the ground not far away, and there were no “people” around the coin.
This object looked like an easy, giveaway answer, proclaiming to everyone that all they had to do was pick it up and hand it to the Notebook Head.
But given their previous experience of having to find several sheets of paper to piece together the entire rule, Yue Yiyue pulled out the elastic ball in her hand and shook it toward Gu He.
They hid in a relatively concealed corner, confirming there were no monsters nearby.
With a flick of her hand, the small ball hit the ground, making a “thud-thud-thud” sound.
The Notebook Head monster acted as if it saw nothing, still muttering about the round object it was trying to find.
Yue Yiyue and Gu He exchanged a look. It seemed this monster’s hearing wasn’t very good.
Yue Yiyue threw out another ball.
This time, the small ball flew straight toward the gold coin. The moment it touched the coin, a mud-like entity surged out of the darkness, swiftly swallowed the ball, and then retreated back into the wall.
This all happened in an instant; Yue Yiyue couldn’t even clearly see what the monster looked like.
It seemed these two monsters had reached some kind of agreement.
Yue Yiyue was fretting over how to get a new gold coin when she suddenly heard a complaint not far away: “Ah, why did I inexplicably end up in this place?”
“Wasn’t I just working overtime? Damn rule, how can I get out…”
