- Chapter 2.7 - Glances in the Hallway— “The Heroine’s Impatience”
After lunch, I ran into Lily on my way back to the classroom. There were a few students around, but when she saw me, she gave me a look filled with obvious hatred.
“Lady Serena, it’s no use acting like a nice girl in front of His Highness. Your true nature will be revealed soon enough.”
Her voice was low and sharp. It was so prickly that I couldn’t believe it came from the same person who was acting like a “fragile heroine” just a moment ago. I instinctively frowned and gave a small shrug.
“My true nature, huh? Unfortunately, I’m not aware of it. I wonder what your goal is in using His Highness?”
I didn’t mean for my words to be provocative, but Lily’s face changed color. She lowered her voice even more so the people around us couldn’t hear.
“His Highness is destined to be with me. You are just a villainess after all. Did you forget you were almost punished at the ballroom? …You are nothing more than someone whose engagement is about to be broken. You have a lot of nerve.”
A few students nearby stiffened at her remark. She spoke as if she believed the entire academy would go exactly the way she wanted.
—Is Lily a reincarnated person too? She is so confident that I can’t help but wonder, though I don’t know for sure. However, there is no doubt that she firmly believes in the “official story.”
In the game’s plot, there is a classic ending where Lily, the Saint from a commoner background, wins the Prince’s heart. That’s why she thinks it’s already decided that I, the villainess, will be betrayed.
But in reality, Alexis has put things “on hold” and has not abandoned me. In fact, he has even started approaching me kindly. To Lily, this must be very annoying.
At this point, I am almost certain. Lily is either aware of the game’s routes or blindly believes that “she is the one destined to be chosen by the Prince.” That is why she is getting more and more irritated now that I am blocking her path.
“…I’m sorry, but I have my own way of doing things. I have no intention of backing down just because you told me to.”
Saying that, I looked Lily straight in the eye. She bit her lip and looked down for a moment, appearing frustrated.
A small sense of guilt grew inside me. If she really is a hard worker from a commoner background, I don’t feel great about fighting her like this. But those tears and her acting seem very fishy.
—Eventually, I will need to find out the truth. Making that decision in my heart, I headed to the classroom.
