My Possessive Boss Is Unexpectedly Needy - Chapter 42
Chapter 42
Yu Zining reached the lounge but found it impossible to sleep. Scrolling through the news on his phone, he noticed that the negative backlash had quieted down slightly—the PR team’s efforts were clearly working.
Just then, there was a knock at the door.
Yu Zining opened it to find Li Ruixi standing there. He instinctively tensed up, his guard rising.
Li Ruixi held a glass of milk, a faint smile on her lips. “It turns out I was wrong. I didn’t truly understand Lu Yeyan. Since he loves you, I have nothing left to say. You don’t still hold a grudge against me, do you?”
Yu Zining stepped aside to let her in, replying politely, “No…”
Li Ruixi’s smile widened. “Your voice is truly beautiful. If you were to debut, you’d definitely be as big as my brother. Here, have some milk.”
Yu Zining looked at the glass with a hint of suspicion.
Li Ruixi shook her head with a sigh. “Are you still unwilling to forgive my past rashness?”
Yu Zining smiled awkwardly. To avoid further tension, he took the milk and drank it under her watchful gaze.
Li Ruixi’s expression flickered for a brief second, but she said nothing other than: “Get some rest.”
She took the empty glass and left the lounge.
After drinking the milk, Yu Zining did feel a wave of drowsiness. He leaned back against the sofa and gradually drifted off into a deep sleep.
…
The Next Morning…
At the Ou villa, Zheng Xiuying watched Ou Yucheng get up and placed the breakfast prepared by the servants in front of him. Her eyes crinkled into crescents as she beamed, “Master, I have some wonderful news.”
He Yilun joined them at the table, stifling a yawn. “What has you so happy?”
Ou Yucheng looked at his wife.
Zheng Xiuying glanced at He Yilun and smirked. “YIY’s Lu Yeyan—it turns out his wife is actually a man! Pfft, hahaha!”
He Yilun’s brow furrowed instantly. “Mom, where did you hear that?”
Zheng Xiuying spread the newspaper out in front of them. “It leaked overnight. Every major website is buzzing with it. And look—their stock plummeted.”
Ou Yucheng stared at the photo of Yu Zining in men’s clothes. He didn’t seem particularly happy; instead, he muttered softly, “He… is a man?”
“Of course! I heard they’re holding a press conference today. Who knows what they’ll say? If you ask me, they’ll probably deny everything or claim they’ve broken up. Otherwise, at the rate that stock is falling, he’ll be bankrupt in no time.”
Zheng Xiuying chatted away, making no secret of her hope that Lu Yeyan’s company would collapse.
However, He Yilun said flatly, “I wouldn’t be so sure. Lu Yeyan wouldn’t keep this man by his side if he hadn’t already weighed the risks.”
Ou Yucheng seemed to agree with He Yilun. He narrowed his eyes and set the newspaper down.
“Hey, where are you going?” Zheng Xiuying called out as He Yilun stood up before finishing his meal.
He Yilun turned back. “To see this so-called press conference for myself, of course!”
…
Yu Zining was woken up by a sharp knocking. It was Shen Ziqi’s voice from outside the door.
“Are you rested? We are holding the press conference in the lobby shortly. We need you to attend.”
As soon as Yu Zining opened the door, Shen Ziqi shoved a well-tailored suit into his hands.
“Change quickly and head down,” she said urgently. “I’m going to the lobby to set things up. The President has already made arrangements; you won’t need to do much when the time comes.”
Before Yu Zining could say a word, she turned and hurried away.
Yu Zining felt a strange discomfort in his throat, but he brushed it off, assuming he was just tired. He turned back inside to change into the suit.
When he arrived at the lobby, the room was already packed. The first row was filled with company executives, and his eyes immediately met Li Ruixi’s. For some reason, a sense of foreboding washed over him.
As the tall, slender man walked out, the reporters’ cameras flashed incessantly.
Lu Yeyan stood on the stage and slowly reached out a hand, his eyes fixed on Yu Zining with unwavering resolve.
Yu Zining managed a small smile. From this day forward, he could finally stand by this man’s side in the light. He stepped onto the stage and placed his hand in Lu Yeyan’s. Lu Yeyan raised their interlaced hands high for everyone to see.
His gaze swept across the room as he declared, “As you can see—my wife is a man!”
The crowd erupted into an uproar. Sitting in the audience, Li Ruixi wore a mask of feigned embarrassment.
“I don’t care what anyone says; he is the person I will spend the rest of my life with.” Lu Yeyan turned to Yu Zining. “A-Ning, are you willing?”
Yu Zining smiled. Even as a man, his smile was enough to mesmerize the crowd.
He opened his mouth to speak, but no sound came out. His brow tightened in alarm. In an instant, a realization struck him—he looked down at Li Ruixi. She remained perfectly calm, arms crossed, watching the drama unfold like a spectator at a play.
When Yu Zining failed to answer, the reporters began to murmur in confusion.
Suddenly, a reporter shouted, “Does Mr. Yu have an objection? Don’t be afraid! If you are being coerced, tell us now. The public will protect you!”
The implication was clear: they thought Lu Yeyan was kidnapping or forcing Yu Zining into this.
Yu Zining panicked. Standing on the stage, he had no way to explain to Lu Yeyan that he had lost his voice. He could only wave his hands and shake his head frantically.
Lu Yeyan’s handsome face clouded over. He leaned in and whispered, “A-Ning, don’t be afraid. Just speak.”
At the back of the room, He Yilun had been watching from an inconspicuous seat. He sensed something was wrong and was about to stand up when another person beat him to it.
It was a reporter from a major media outlet. Without giving Yu Zining a chance to explain to Lu Yeyan, the reporter pressed forward aggressively.
“President Lu, stop forcing him! Everyone, I have concrete evidence. Yu Zining’s father once owed President Lu a massive debt, and a contract was signed using Yu Zining to settle that debt!”
She held up a photograph of the document. It was the one signed by Yu Yuemin—a document that should have been in Yu Yuemin’s possession.
A collective gasp filled the room. No one had expected that Lu Yeyan had “imprisoned” Yu Zining in such a manner.
The reporter continued, “President Lu, I know you are powerful, but isn’t this a bit too unethical? If two people truly love each other, we would offer our blessings. But you cannot use your power in this city to treat an ordinary person this way!”
