My Possessive Boss Is Unexpectedly Needy - Chapter 39
Chapter 39
Li Yiyang sped toward Lu Yeyan’s villa like a madman.
Leaning against the car window with his chin resting on his hand, he finally connected the dots regarding those eyes. The gaze of “Teacher Lemon” was strikingly similar to that of Lu Yeyan’s newlywed wife, Yu Zining.
“Lu Yeyan!”
The moment he got out of the car, he rushed inside. Gu Yuan scrambled to catch up with him.
“Young Master Li!”
Li Yiyang turned around. “Where is Lu Yeyan?”
“It’s quite unfortunate, Young Master has gone abroad to visit the Old Madam,” Gu Yuan replied.
Li Yiyang waved a hand dismissively. “It’s fine if he’s not here. Is your new Madam home?”
Gu Yuan froze for a second before smiling. “The Madam went along with him.”
Disappointed, Li Yiyang muttered under his breath, “Why is everyone abroad? I thought my sister went on a business trip with Lu Yeyan, but I guess they aren’t together after all.”
Li Ruixi had indeed left the country, but Li Yiyang didn’t know why; he only saw her take a phone call before hurriedly booking a flight and leaving.
“Is there something you need, Young Master Li?” Gu Yuan asked.
Li Yiyang snapped back to his purpose. “Your Madam…” His brow furrowed.
This terrified Gu Yuan. Does Li Yiyang know something? Is he here to interrogate us?
“I want to ask…” Li Yiyang began.
Gu Yuan’s nerves were stretched to the breaking point.
“Does your Madam…”
Gu Yuan’s mind raced, trying to formulate a cover story. But Li Yiyang’s next words nearly made him trip over his own feet.
“…have a brother or a younger brother?”
Gu Yuan blinked, letting out an awkward laugh. “No. I haven’t heard of the Madam having any relatives.”
Li Yiyang frowned. “You sure?”
“Young Master Li, why do you ask?” Gu Yuan probed cautiously.
Li Yiyang waved it off. “Eh, it’s nothing. I just saw a guy who looks a lot like her.”
Gu Yuan’s smile turned stiff. “I see. Must just be a coincidence then.”
“Too similar,” Li Yiyang grumbled. “It’s almost like they’re the same person.”
“Pardon?”
“Oh, nothing. I’m leaving. Tell Lu Yeyan to give me a call when he’s back.”
With that, Li Yiyang jumped back into his car and took off. On the drive back, he shook his head helplessly. “This Teacher Lemon is too mysterious. Even if he is a man, why does he spark my curiosity like this? Man, you have successfully captured my attention!”
Li Yiyang is truly a bit of a blockhead. He’s standing right on the doorstep of the truth, yet he can’t quite step inside. Even as the author, I feel quite helpless about it.
…
Abroad
On the other side of the world, Li Ruixi had just landed.
The reason she had left so suddenly was a phone call from the hospital: Yan Yucheng had woken up!
She headed straight for the VIP ward. She had put a lot of effort and resources into providing Yucheng with the best environment. She pushed open the door just as the nurse finished changing Yucheng’s IV drip.
Yan Yucheng froze upon seeing her. “Li Ruixi!” she stammered.
Li Ruixi immediately masked her true intentions with a look of concern. “Yucheng, you’re finally awake!”
“Where are my parents?” Yucheng asked urgently.
“They’ve been notified. They’re on their way,” Li Ruixi said.
Yucheng lowered her gaze. After a long silence, she whispered, “Thank you. I didn’t expect that after everything happened, you’d be the one to arrange my treatment.”
Li Ruixi smiled. “After all, we played together when we were kids. I remember when you first transferred to the school abroad. Yeyan and I were in the same class, and you were always running over to find him, throwing those little tantrums…”
Li Ruixi intentionally brought up Lu Yeyan to gauge the reaction. Sure enough, the moment his name was mentioned, Yucheng’s hands gripped the bedsheets tightly, her eyes filling with pure hatred.
“What is it, Yucheng? Are you feeling unwell?” Li Ruixi asked quickly.
Because of the severe trauma she had suffered, Yucheng’s face had been largely destroyed. Plastic surgery had restored most of it, but the scars were still visible, and her facial expressions remained stiff. In her anger, she looked quite eerie.
“Don’t mention him to me!” Yucheng said coldly.
“What happened? What exactly went down between you and Yeyan? I heard from your father… but I want to hear your version.”
Looking at Li Ruixi’s seemingly sincere eyes and considering she had provided the best medical care, Yucheng felt she could trust her.
She took a slow breath and spoke. “Lu Yeyan’s new wife… Yu Zining… is a man!”
Li Ruixi was struck with shock. “What? Are you… are you serious? But how could that be?” She stared at Yucheng, unable to believe her ears. She never imagined Yu Zining was a man.
“I saw it with my own eyes. And you probably thought he was a mute, didn’t you?”
Li Ruixi nodded, stunned. “He isn’t?”
Yucheng let out a cold laugh. “Not only is he not a mute, he’s quite the silver-tongued talker. He has Lu Yeyan completely wrapped around his finger!”
The information was overwhelming. Li Ruixi stood up slowly and looked out the window. This was definitely not what she expected to find out.
Yucheng sighed. “Don’t be too surprised. I was fooled at first, too. His acting is incredible, jumping between genders like that. Who knows if it’s true love or just a performance when he’s with Lu Yeyan.”
Li Ruixi turned around sharply. “Lu Yeyan… he knows?”
“Of course he knows,” Yucheng sneered. “And he did what he did to me precisely because I found out the truth.”
Li Ruixi still found it hard to believe. “Yucheng, was it really Lu Yeyan who hurt you?”
Yucheng’s eyes darkened. “That day, after I found out the truth, he was furious. He took Yu Zining away and left his subordinate behind. I thought the man was going to do something to me; I screamed and fought. But he just dragged me into the car. He didn’t say anything—he said he was taking me home.
I thought Lu Yeyan was actually being merciful. But… on the way, the man started jerking the steering wheel like a madman, left and right, until he slammed the car violently into a wall!”
Li Ruixi paused, thinking carefully. “Yucheng, I feel like there are many suspicious points here. First, knowing Lu Yeyan’s personality, if he really wanted to get rid of you, he would have done it on the spot. Why pretend to send you home only to have a subordinate do it on the road where it leaves a trail? The whole incident points directly at him. Why would he do something so sloppy and detrimental to his own reputation?”
Yucheng hesitated. She had never been the smartest person and tended to believe only what she saw. But was what she saw the whole truth?
