My Possessive Boss Is Unexpectedly Needy - Chapter 33
Chapter 33
Yu Zining trembled and instinctively took a step back.
Li Ruixi, who had just finished the modifications, turned around to witness this scene. A flicker of fury instantly ignited in her eyes.
Lu Yeyan looked up at her and said coolly, “My wife is worried about me, so why don’t we let him go up and showcase the piece?”
Li Ruixi lowered her gaze. She knew Lu Yeyan had ordered her to tamper with and modify someone else’s original work. If anything went wrong, having Yu Zining there to take the blame wouldn’t be a bad idea, so she remained silent.
Yu Zining was stunned, looking at Lu Yeyan in disbelief.
Just then, a staff member approached: “CEO Lu, the representatives from the previous companies have finished their presentations. Please get ready. You are next after the Ou Group.”
“Understood,” Lu Yeyan replied. He turned back to Yu Zining and arched an eyebrow. “Wife, surely you won’t make things difficult for me?”
Zining sighed. He truly didn’t know what Lu Yeyan was thinking—did the man simply love to toy with him that much? Reluctantly, he nodded.
Li Ruixi’s expression was strained, but she managed to speak: “Then please follow me, Madam. I will help you into the dress.”
“No need!”
Before Zining could even gesture, Lu Yeyan cut her off. Li Ruixi looked at him with confusion, but his next words were a direct blow to her pride.
“I’ll do it.”
Before Li Ruixi could react, Lu Yeyan grabbed the dress in one hand, took Yu Zining’s hand in the other, and pulled him toward the dressing room.
Shen Ziqi watched them go with a wide, giddy grin. “They are just so in love—”
Li Ruixi shot her a glare so fierce it looked like she wanted to devour her. Shen Ziqi shivered, instantly wiping the smile off her face. “Designer Li, I’ll head to the front. We have photography arrangements to oversee.” With that, she fled the awkward scene as fast as she could.
…
Inside the Dressing Room
Yu Zining’s heart was racing for reasons he couldn’t explain. He snatched the garment from Lu Yeyan’s hands. “I… I can do it myself!”
Lu Yeyan suddenly wrapped his arms around Zining from behind, leaning his head against Zining’s shoulder like a weary child.
“A-Ning—”
The magnetic quality of Lu Yeyan’s voice made Zining’s heart flutter.
“Forgive my past arrogance, alright? I know I was too self-centered, but in front of you, I’d rather be small. I never liked looking at the night sky because I couldn’t stand the darkness, but because of you, I am willing to accept those tiny, shimmering stars.”
Lu Yeyan’s grip tightened slightly.
“I’ve never cared about external things, and I certainly don’t care about what others think. A-Ning, I find myself liking you more and more. I’m willing to give you time for us to truly know each other. If you still want to leave then, I will give you your freedom.”
Faced with this sudden confession, Yu Zining was lost for words. After a long moment, Lu Yeyan slowly released him.
“Let me help you.”
He gently turned Zining around. When Zining looked at him, he saw a trace of profound sadness in Lu Yeyan’s eyes. Lu Yeyan’s fingers moved to carefully undo the belt at Zining’s waist…
…
On Stage
He Yilun looked smugly at the two empty seats beside him, then shifted his gaze to his own company’s designs on the stage. He smirked. “Dad, this move of yours was brilliant.”
Ou Fucheng narrowed his eyes. “Don’t rush. Take it slow.”
At that moment, the judges awarded the highest score of the event so far to the Ou Group. Sitting next to Ou Fucheng, Zheng Xiuying clapped enthusiastically. “As expected of my son’s project; it’s truly exceptional.”
“Next up is the design from the YIY Group!”
All eyes turned toward the entrance. Just as the Ou family felt their victory was certain, a white silhouette slowly emerged into view.
“Wow—”
A collective gasp swept through the venue.
A figure resembling a celestial being drifted onto the stage, leaving the audience in awe. Even the judges were momentary stunned before regaining their composure to examine the garment.
For some reason, the dress took on a completely different soul on Yu Zining’s body—a mix of feminine grace and hidden strength. He Yilun’s brow furrowed. Beside him, Ou Fucheng seemed to be struck by a memory, his eyes filling with a strange melancholy.
Zheng Xiuying also seemed to sense something. Her face turned pale and blotchy with fear. She rose shakily. “I… I need to go to the restroom!” She hurried away, not daring to look back at the stage for another second.
When Ou Fucheng noticed the bracelet on Yu Zining’s wrist, his pupils contracted violently. He suddenly stood up, trembling. “How can they look so much alike? Who… who is that!”
Lu Yeyan, who was now seated nearby, watched the agitated Ou Fucheng with an unreadable, subtle smile.
“Dad!” He Yilun whispered, tugging at his father’s sleeve. Ou Fucheng realized he had lost his composure and slowly sat back down, though his eyes never left Yu Zining.
The scores were revealed: a perfect ten!
One judge remarked, “The design has some flaws, but you chose the right model. The greatest advantage of a design is the ‘feeling’ it evokes. If the feeling is right, you’ve already won half the battle.”
The hall erupted in thunderous applause.
Suddenly, a woman stood up. “I have a question!”
The crowd turned to look at her. She was dressed in a trendy jumpsuit with a high ponytail and bold blue eyeshadow. She spoke up: “I’ve just returned from abroad and have specifically studied the works of Designer Ran. If my eyes don’t deceive me, this is White Lover! No—I should say you’ve ruined White Lover by butchering it into your own work. This is plagiarism!”
The judges were taken aback and began to whisper among themselves. “There are indeed similarities.” “No wonder it felt so familiar.”
Instantly, the atmosphere turned hostile. Insults were hurled from the crowd, openly calling YIY shameless. These people were merely opportunists; to them, YIY was a formidable rival they were happy to see fall.
Yu Zining began to panic. Standing on stage with the white spotlights heating his face, he felt like he wanted to disappear.
Then, Lu Yeyan let out a cold laugh. “Hahaha!”
His expression darkened as he stepped onto the stage and took the microphone from the host. “What a show. It seems I’ve finally seen how many people are dissatisfied with YIY.”
He Yilun stood up, a smirk on his face. “CEO Lu, everyone trusted YIY. We never expected you to do something like this. People are simply heartbroken.”
