- My Overly Anxious and Devoted Girlfriend Never Gives Up on Me
- Chapter 1.2 - He is Weak Against Yuna
“Ah, Sakuraba-kun!”
After school, as I waited in the empty classroom, Yunagi-san came in response to my summons.
Bathed in the evening sun, Yunagi-san was so beautiful she seemed otherworldly.
Seeing her face light up with joy at the sight of me was frankly overwhelming in its impact.
But that didn’t matter right now.
There was something I needed to clarify properly.
“What’s wrong? The thing you wanted to talk about, could it be?”
“Of course, it’s exactly that could it be.”
What, so she actually had been reflecting on it.
Maybe she was more reasonable than I thought.
“So, you’ve decided to properly date me after all!”
“…No, that’s not it.”
As expected, Yunagi-san was still Yunagi-san…
“Aww, what a shame.”
Pouting as she said this, Yunagi-san plopped down in the seat next to the desk I was leaning against.
“Do you really intend to keep your promise to me?”
“……I do.”
“Doubtful. What was that unnatural pause just now?”
“…Well,”
Yunagi-san turned away with a huff and fell silent.
Her sulking was, of course, unbearably cute.
But as usual, that didn’t matter.
I wouldn’t be swayed.
“I think you understand, but if you can’t keep your promise, I’ll break up with you immediately.”
“Ehh!?”
Swiveling sharply to face me, Yunagi-san’s eyes welled up with tears.
“No! Absolutely not! We just started dating!”
“We only started dating because you were so persistent about it. I turned you down multiple times.”
It was in this same after-school classroom.
I had rejected Yunagi-san’s sudden confession.
But she kept saying things like “No way!” and “Please!” and “Just give me a chance!” and refused to back down.
In the end, I was the one who gave in, agreeing to date only after she accepted several conditions.
Of course, I wasn’t just swept along. I had my own reasons.
Well, I’ll skip those for now.
“No restrictions. Don’t expect me to fall for you. And the last one?”
“……Don’t tell anyone.”
“Right. If you understand, then stop doing things like that.”
“…I’m sorry.”
Yunagi-san said this in a voice so faint it might disappear, shrinking into herself.
Apparently, my threat of breaking up had more impact than I expected.
I felt guilty too.
It felt like I was taking advantage of her weakness, and I couldn’t help feeling sorry.
But that’s exactly why I had rejected her confession in the first place.
It was only because she said she’d accept these conditions anyway that we ended up dating.
“I won’t do it again! Next time I won’t wave or anything, okay?”
“We’ve only been dating for two days, and you’re already like this. I can’t trust you.”
“But…! I was just so happy. I couldn’t help it.”
Yunagi-san, blushing as she looked down, was still incredibly wonderful.
I wish she had fallen for someone more ordinary.
That would have been better for both of us.
With her charm, most boys would fall for her instantly.
But she had to choose someone like me—unremarkable, mismatched for Yunagi-san, and uninterested in romance.
“Honestly, I think it would be better if we stopped. You deserve someone much better than—”
“No! I like Sakuraba-kun! No one else will do!”
“…Then please keep your promise properly. Otherwise, I’ll come to dislike you. I don’t want that either.”
I have no romantic feelings for Yunagi-san.
No, not just for her, for anyone.
But I do think Yunagi-san is wonderful.
We could definitely be good friends.
“Ehh!? No! Don’t dislike me! I’ll really behave from now on! Please, Sakuraba-kun!”
“…Alright. I understand, so calm down.”
But Yunagi-san said she didn’t want to be just friends.
She said she wanted to be my lover.
As long as she wouldn’t yield, we had to remain at odds like this.
Either I would fall for her, or she would give up on me.
In short, this was that kind of contest.
“Well, sorry for calling you out like this.”
“No. I wanted to see you, so I’m happy.”
With the remaining tears glittering at the corners of her eyes, Yunagi-san smiled.
Both her tears and her smile suited Yunagi-san perfectly.
“Well, I’m heading home.”
“Eh, I want to go home together!”
“You know that’s not allowed.”
“Ehh~…”
“Don’t ‘ehh’ me. See you later.”
Saying this, I left the classroom before Yunagi-san.
But just as I passed through the door, Yunagi-san called out to me.
“Sakuraba-kun!”
“What?”
“Can I contact you after we get home?”
“…Fine, but I’ll probably be reading.”
“Okay, got it! Then I’ll message you!”
Yunagi-san’s happy voice and face.
Trying not to let them burn into my memory, I quickly looked away from her.
I wish she would give up on me as soon as possible.
