My Omega Rival in Love [Interstellar] - Chapter 58
“Actually, your mother did not die. Moreover, were these words and events not told to you by your mother herself?” Stung by Ji Shaoyan’s scathing rebuke, Gu Jin felt a bit calmer and clearer-headed.
“Yes. My mother escaped disaster by shielding me with her body. Later, we were rescued by the leader of the Madelon Pirate Group. Since I was old enough to remember, she told me the truth. She told me exactly who the enemies were that tried to kill us.” Staring directly at Gu Jin, Ji Shaoyan made no effort to hide her malice. “It is a pity that years of repressed sorrow led my mother to pass away early. But now that I am left alone, I will absolutely not let you off!”
Having calmed down, Gu Jin glanced at Gu Nuan, who was still shivering, then turned her head to look at He Yu, who was lost in thought beside her. She rested her elbow on He Yu’s shoulder. “Do you feel it? There is something not quite right about this story.”
“Huh?” Interrupted in her thoughts, He Yu looked at Gu Jin with a hint of bewilderment. “What did you say?”
“I…” Gu Jin blinked. This was an earth-shattering royal secret; could they show a little more interest, please?
Seeing Gu Jin’s speechless expression, He Yu tossed her arm aside and looked at Ji Shaoyan, who had been ignored and was now wearing a complex expression. “Miss Ji, is it alright if I address you as such?”
Ji Shaoyan: They are making me feel like I am performing a one-woman show, and one without an audience at that. What a waste of emotion.
Deciding not to waste any more energy, Ji Shaoyan nodded expressionlessly. “As you wish.”
“I have heard that someone once invented a serum capable of altering physical constitution, but the damage it causes to the body is extreme. However, no one has ever seen the real thing, and it was considered a rumor. So, is your current constitution a result of that serum?” The studious and inquisitive Scholar He had stopped paying attention in class ever since she found out Ji Shaoyan was an Omega. While everyone else was discussing family feuds, she was pondering biological evolution, and now she was asking follow-up questions.
“I am going to…” Ji Shaoyan, leader of the First Pirate Group, felt this was likely the most embarrassing moment of her life. “Forget it. I have changed my mind. To hell with striking at the heart and mental torture. It would be best if the three of you just died right here today!”
As Ji Shaoyan finished speaking, Gu Yin’s voice crackled through the comms. “It is bad! She is going to control the building to fight us. This is very disadvantageous for you!”
At the same time, following the enraged Ji Shaoyan, the three people, who were never on the same wavelength anyway, finally reached a consensus: escape first!
Gu Jin pulled He Yu, but before they could move, the ground began to shake violently. As they watched Ji Shaoyan’s expression grow increasingly twisted, their hearts turned cold.
However, after a sudden jolt, everything around them strangely came to a halt. Not only were Gu Jin and her companions stunned, but Ji Shaoyan’s twisted expression was replaced by confusion. She stamped the ground, blinking blankly.
“What is going on?”
Ji Shaoyan’s confused voice and the voice of Gu Jing in the comms spoke simultaneously. Gu Jin, having had her comms connected by Gu Yin, heard Gu Jing’s reply.
“I happened to find the master switch for the building control system under the floor of the weapons storage room. When I heard Gu Yin’s message, I just happened to shut it off.”
Everyone: “Wow. What a casual ‘just happened to’.”
Gu Nuan: “Big brother is truly big brother. He is much more reliable than that guy Gu Yin!”
Ji Shaoyan realized that someone on Gu Jin’s side had interfered. With a wave of her hand, the golden-patterned sword appeared in her grip. “Do you think you are safe just because of this? Naive. With me here, your fate will be the same!”
“Wait!” Just as Ji Shaoyan was about to strike, Gu Jin shouted. “Let us chat some more! Do you not think your mother was just using you as a tool for revenge? Furthermore, everything she told you was heavily colored by her own subjective perspective, and it might not even be true. Let us compare our evidence before deciding whether to fight or not!”
“There is nothing to talk about! Who knows how many more lies your royal family has!” Seething with anger, Ji Shaoyan refused to listen to a single word. Her red robes instantly transformed into a red micro-mecha, and she lunged forward wielding a golden sword that had doubled in size!
It seemed unavoidable now. Gu Jin’s expression hardened. She placed a hand on He Yu’s “Immortal” armor, and suddenly, a layer of faint golden micro-mecha appeared over her as well. The “Immortal” had actually split into two!
Before He Yu could finish her shock, the “Immortal” in Gu Jin’s hand formed a long black sword with golden patterns. She met Ji Shaoyan head-on. Both were crafted from ultra-high-strength metals; the moment their sharp blades collided, blinding sparks showered the room!
They clashed and separated in an instant. Both of their speeds were too fast for the naked eye. Gu Nuan shielded He Yu as they retreated into the room. Looking at the battle outside, they could only see occasional sparks and two swiftly moving silhouettes.
Gu Nuan glanced cautiously at the pirate members still outside the white domain, exhaling in relief. Thankfully, they had not taken the opportunity to rush in, or he might not have been able to protect his sister-in-law.
In truth, not only were He Yu and Gu Nuan stunned by the intensity of the duel, but the surrounding pirates were also dumbfounded. Besides, they did not have the authority to enter the white domain and were waiting for their leader to give the order.
A battle between two ultra-S-grade constitution fighters was terrifying. Even though they were only wearing micro-mecha, the surrounding structures, some of the hardest construction materials in the interstellar world, were like tofu. Every sword strike sliced off a piece, neat and precise, without even a swirl mark.
Watching the white walls of the surroundings gradually flattening, He Yu and Gu Nuan swallowed hard and continued to retreat, trying to avoid the center of the battle circle.
Aside from the immense destructive power, their stamina was shocking. Despite such a fierce battle, they did not even need a brief standoff or rest. The two silhouettes in mid-air remained evenly matched, locked in a fierce confrontation.
And this was only while the two were mindful of their surroundings: Ji Shaoyan did not want to destroy the “Death” ship, and Gu Jin was afraid of collateral damage to He Yu at the edge of the domain. They maintained a delicate balance, keeping the fight confined to a limited space.
Squatting near the edge of the white domain, He Yu looked at the two figures in mid-air with concern. She remembered that Gu Jin’s wounds had not fully healed, right? Would it be okay to keep fighting like this? Yesterday, her old injuries had flared up, and she probably had not recovered even half of her strength today. How could she hold out?
As He Yu worried, the battle circle narrowed. The dense sword light refracted into a ball of radiance. In the blinding glare, the two figures vanished, and one could only judge the status of the fight by the sounds coming from within.
In a duel between masters, victory or defeat is often decided in a split second. Amidst the intense gaze of all observers, after another loud bang, a faint zzzt sound, the sound of a sword slicing through skin, echoed clearly through the vast, empty space. Everyone’s nerves tightened instantly!
Someone was hurt!
Who was it?
The same question popped into everyone’s minds. They focused intensely on the center, peering through the glare.
One figure flew out of the light. After staggering back a dozen steps, she barely managed to stand steady, leaning on her sword. Her once flamboyant, magnificent red mecha was damaged in many places. On her chest, the armor was stained a deep, brownish crimson with blood. Ji Shaoyan’s naturally bright and stunning face was streaked with blood, looking exceptionally disheveled.
No one expected Ji Shaoyan to be the one injured!
As Ji Shaoyan steadied herself, the light circle on the other side gradually dissipated. Gu Jin landed lightly and steadily on the ground. Her black-and-gold mecha was as pristine as before, though the blood on her lips proved that this victory had not been easy for her.
He Yu could tell that Gu Jin was barely holding on. She immediately rushed to her side, feigning intimacy to support her. They were surrounded, and if they wanted to avoid being swarmed by pirates, Gu Jin must not show any signs of weakness, or at least, she could not let others see them.
Gu Jin smiled knowingly. She knew she and He Yu were in sync. She could not help but reach out to stroke He Yu’s head. After receiving a glare from He Yu, she pushed her luck and pinched her pale, frightened cheek. Tsk, it feels so good. She did not withdraw her hand until He Yu, unable to bear it any longer, twisted Gu Jin’s waist, causing her to gasp in pain.
Their small interaction was not very obvious, and few people saw it. Supported by He Yu, Gu Jin managed to stand steady and resumed her airy, nonchalant demeanor. She wiped the blood from the corner of her lips and looked down at Ji Shaoyan, who was barely supporting herself with her sword. “You lost. Can we talk properly now?”
“Impossible, impossible! You were clearly already injured. This is impossible!” Leaning on her sword, Ji Shaoyan glared at Gu Jin with resentment. She staggered forward two steps but stopped, still wary. Even though she suspected Gu Jin was more seriously wounded than she was, the way Gu Jin stood now made her doubt her own judgment.
“There is a significant difference between natural-born talent and the artificial products of those who defy fate. Admit defeat; I do not want to fight you anymore.” Gu Jin wrapped her arms around He Yu’s waist and rested her head on her shoulder, rubbing against it slightly. To an outsider, it looked like an ill-timed display of affection, but in reality, Gu Jin did not even have the strength to lift her head anymore.
Knowing Gu Jin’s true condition, He Yu did not push her away. Instead, she reached up and ruffled Gu Jin’s white hair in retaliation, pinching the nose that was huffing air behind her ear. He Yu did not feel much, but Gu Jin眯了眯眼, comfortably. To others, however, it was a blatant scene of showing off their relationship.
Watching Gu Jin and He Yu cling to each other with frustration, Ji Shaoyan frowned. But she was a woman of principle; a loss was a loss. She straightened her back, stepped to the side, and the pirates behind her opened a path. “You may go, but this debt is not settled yet.”
“If you put it that way, then I am not leaving.” Unexpectedly, Gu Jin did not budge. She calculated clearly: Ji Shaoyan’s words were true, and she would cause them trouble again in the future. As long as the events of twenty years ago remained unresolved, she would be like a ghost, haunting them with a “Die-Pries” occasionally.
Gu Jin did not want to be targeted every few days. Though it might not affect her, she had to worry about He Yu and the child in her womb. Tightening her hold on He Yu, Gu Jin decided it was better to strike while the iron was hot.
“Since we can sit down and talk calmly now, I will start a holographic call. Let us confront the facts face-to-face. What do you think?”
After saying this, Gu Jin pulled He Yu down to sit on the floor. Ignoring He Yu’s disapproving look, she held her hand and pulled her into an embrace to soothe her, though she said little. There were some things she had to do that He Yu did not need to know about.
Although Ji Shaoyan was stubborn to the point of paranoia, she did not refuse Gu Jin’s proposal. Since they were on her turf, she wanted to see what kind of ghost stories the royal family could cook up.
Ji Shaoyan sat opposite Gu Jin and He Yu. Seeing their intimate movements, a complex emotion flashed in her eyes—so fast that no one noticed. She urged them impatiently, “Hurry up.”
Looking at the three people sitting together, and then at the fierce-looking pirates all around, Gu Nuan retreated silently behind Gu Jin. It is too hard for me.
Gu Jin did not delay. After thinking it over, she sent the call request to Gu Ting. She knew her father might think she had gotten into some new trouble and might not necessarily answer the call.
“Who are you planning to ask?” He Yu frowned slightly as she watched the projected image waiting for the connection, with the note “Pig Boss” above it.
“My brother. He knows more about our family matters than anyone else, and he has a big mouth that cannot keep secrets. If I ask him, he will definitely spill everything.”
He Yu and Ji Shaoyan looked at the shiny “Pig Boss” name, then at Gu Jin, who did not think there was anything wrong with it, and fell silent.
On the other end, Gu Ting, who was overwhelmed with work at his desk, felt his optical device vibrate. He projected the image into the air, where the words “Brother Bear No. 2” danced cheerfully.
Rubbing his throbbing temples, Gu Ting accepted the call in a state of exhaustion, not even glancing at the other side, and spoke with his eyes closed, “Funeral home for cleanup and burial, memorial service for crying and soul-calling—I have already paid the deposit for the whole package. When are you going to die?”
“I…” Gu Jin, who was about to speak, was cut off by Gu Ting’s sentence. She rolled her eyes in fury. “Prepare it for yourself! I will definitely live longer than you. Are you sneaking around in the middle of the night, or did you kick down a widow’s door? You look like you have been hollowed out and are about to kick the bucket.”
“Gu Jin, are you lack of morals…” Putting down the hand rubbing his temples, Gu Ting opened his eyes and saw three heads on the other side, plus a swarm of people…
The rest of his words choked in his throat. Stifling a curse, Gu Ting sat up straight and solemn. But unfortunately, his imperial dignity had already shattered into dust along with Gu Jin’s sense of propriety long ago.
