My Omega Rival in Love [Interstellar] - Chapter 32
After booking a hotel using Carlo’s optical computer, Gu Jin waited for her private vehicle at the entrance of the interstellar passenger terminal. She scanned the surroundings with bored indifference, noticing many others waiting just like her.
Suddenly, the terminal’s alarm was triggered. Gu Jin suppressed her instinctive muscle tension, dutifully playing the part of a flustered noble scion while waiting for instructions from the terminal management.
“Warning! Warning! An Omega is experiencing a sudden pheromone riot. All travelers, please evacuate the terminal immediately. Alpha passengers, please evacuate at once!”
After the announcement repeated three times, the crowd began to leave. Gu Jin was about to follow the flow when she noticed the people ahead growing even more chaotic.
“Beta travelers, please evacuate immediately! Evacuate immediately!” The alarm blared again. Gu Jin’s nose twitched, and she realized something was unusual. Seeing the Alphas, who were already hypersensitive to pheromones, clutching their noses in a futile effort to block the scent, Gu Jin abandoned her retreat and sprinted toward the heart of the commotion.
“Please cooperate with the staff! Omegas have already been sent to maintain order. Please evacuate!” several staff members shouted, attempting to block the disguised Gu Jin.
“Listen to me,” Gu Jin said, grabbing a staff member in a leadership uniform and quickly showing her identification. “I have the ability to isolate pheromones. This Omega riot is not normal. Let me through and ensure that anyone who has come into contact with the rioting Omega is injected with suppressants immediately. Otherwise, the consequences will be catastrophic.”
The official hesitated, but seeing Gu Jin’s completely unaffected demeanor and the worsening chaos around them, he nodded. “I do not know how you are doing it, but please, help us.”
He waved off the security, ordering them to focus on clearing the crowd, and personally led Gu Jin toward the incident. Thirty meters away, even as a Beta, the official could no longer stand the pressure. “It is just ahead. I cannot go any further. I am counting on you.”
Gu Jin nodded and strode into the center of the riot. She realized then how fortunate it was that she had come. The person at the center of the pheromone explosion was none other than Princess Wright of the Kada Empire!
Several Omegas were trying to soothe Wright, but their condition was deteriorating rapidly; their faces were flushed, showing early signs of being triggered themselves. Carefully restraining her own pheromones under the protection of two layers of mecha, Gu Jin was minimally affected. She grabbed a box of suppressants from a nearby shelf, patted one of the Omegas on the shoulder, and said, “Leave now. Remember, you must inject yourselves with suppressants immediately.”
The Omegas were startled by the sudden appearance of an Alpha, but seeing that Gu Jin was unaffected, they felt slightly relieved. Still, they did not dare leave a vulnerable Omega in heat alone with an Alpha. After injecting their own suppressants, they stayed nearby.
Gu Jin did not drive them away. She propped up Wright’s head, noting the princess’s glazed, incoherent eyes. Gu Jin accurately located the gland at the back of her neck and, as expected, found a temporary mark belonging to an Alpha.
When a marked Omega experiences a pheromone riot, they release not only their own scent but also the scent of the person who marked them. The two scents stimulate each other, creating a feedback loop that severely impacts Omegas, Alphas, and even Betas. If it were just a standard heat, it would not be a major issue, but Wright was clearly in the throes of a full-blown riot. Gu Jin did not know the cause, but the priority was to soothe and guide the pheromones back to a peaceful state.
She signaled the surrounding Omegas to back off. Gu Jin then used the pheromones Gu Ting had stored in the mecha for disguise purposes. Unseen by the crowd, she injected them into the gland at the back of Wright’s neck through her fingertips. Her powerful pheromones effectively erased the weaker mark and calmed the rioting Omega. Fortunately, it was only a temporary mark rather than a permanent one, making the process simpler.
As Wright’s consciousness gradually cleared, Gu Jin took a new blanket and covered her. She pretended not to know the princess’s identity. “Don’t worry, it was just a temporary mark; it will disappear on its own in a day. Do you need me to notify your family to pick you up?”
Incidents like this were common at the terminal, so the emergency procedures were well-established. Nearby Alphas who had been severely affected were already being held down by robots for suppressant injections. The situation was under control.
Wright opened her eyes and looked at the stranger. Her gaze flickered away. “No need. Thank you for the trouble.”
Suddenly, the scent of pheromone freshener swept through the hall like a tidal wave. The crowd was caught off guard, coughing and gagging for a long time. Gu Jin, thanks to her military training and her scent-isolated mecha, felt nothing. The Omegas around her, however, clutched their noses in protest.
“Good heavens! Can the Empire not have some aesthetic sense for scents? Why is every pheromone freshener they invent worse than the last? This one is durian-flavored! I am going to die!”
“Be grateful it is durian. Last time we were sprayed with canned herring scent. Is that even a freshener? It is a chemical weapon!”
“But the effect is undeniable. No matter how triggered an Alpha or Omega is, smelling this makes them lose interest instantly.”
Gu Jin ignored the wailing crowd. After handing Wright over to the terminal staff, her transport vehicle arrived, a massive, flattened circular craft, gleaming in gold. It looked incredibly expensive. Under the watchful eyes of the crowd, Gu Jin brushed back her short hair, boarded the craft, and departed coolly. To avoid being overly dramatic, she did not even look back.
At the hotel, Gu Jin finally stripped off the two layers of mecha, took a shower, and changed clothes. She handed the scent-soaked mecha suits to a cleaning robot to ensure they would be wearable later. Sitting on the roof of the tallest building on the Capital Star, she drank coffee and briefed Gu Ting on the incident with Princess Wright. Gu Ting acknowledged the message, and shortly after, a new notification arrived, this time from the He family.
Gu Jin glanced at it. It was mostly polite formalities: confirming a meeting time, expressing a warm welcome to Carlo to the Capital Star, and so on. Regardless, she was glad they were willing to meet. She rubbed her stiff neck. Even for someone of her caliber, moving naturally while wearing two layers of micro-mecha was no easy feat. She suspected Gu Ting was doing it to mess with her; she had never heard of anyone wearing two suits at once.
Once dressed, Gu Jin looked in the mirror and nodded with satisfaction. She had to admit that the realistic humanoid mecha Gu Ting had provided was indistinguishable from a real person, even down to the touch and temperature. Looking at the clock, Gu Jin decided that staying cooped up in the hotel did not fit her “playboy” persona. She threw on a flashy pink coat, put on gold-chained glasses, and styled her hair. The entire ensemble screamed extravagant.
Satisfied with her look, she shoved one hand in her pocket and sauntered out. But then a problem arose: where should she go? Usually, she spent her time at the training grounds. Would a playboy billionaire from Planet Loca go to a training ground? That would be ridiculous. Gu Jin realized that because she had spent her life training and bickering with He Yu, she had no bad habits other than playing video games.
She pulled out her optical computer; she knew someone who was an expert in this field. Two minutes later, she had a complete map of all entertainment venues on the Capital Star, complete with detailed descriptions. As the leader of the city’s profligate youth, Wen Ju knew every establishment, legitimate or otherwise. When he heard Gu Jin wanted recommendations, he immediately handed over his entire curated collection without hesitation.
Gu Jin looked over the results. She skipped the names that sounded overtly illicit and chose one that suited her taste. She gave the driver the coordinates, and the golden craft sped toward the destination. Upon arrival, Gu Jin realized she had made a mistake. Humans often have an instinct for seeking out trouble, especially when life is too comfortable. Gu Jin’s random choice happened to be a “Primitive Racing Club” called Primitive Speed. It used no interstellar safety technology; it was the most basic form of racing, four wheels on the ground using vehicles called “cars” that were usually only seen in museums.
Gu Jin found it somewhat dull. Even at maximum ground speed, she could collide with a building without protection and remain unscathed. She did not plan on trying it. It was a joke; she had been piloting starships at the age of ten, flying to other planets at faster-than-light speeds. Why would she care about speeds measured in mere kilometers per hour? She chose a lounge area, sat down with her legs crossed, and watched the lackluster races, planning to kill some time before heading to the He family.
Unfortunately, fate had other plans. Just as she sat down, a cute and polite young Beta approached her. “Sir, you look very familiar,” the small Beta said, squatting beside Gu Jin with a sweet smile.
“This is my first time on the Capital Star. Where would you have seen me?” Gu Jin felt a bit nervous. Was she already being exposed? She did not want Gu Ting to give up on her just yet.
The Beta chuckled and tapped her own heart. “In my dreams, and in my heart. We meet every day.”
Gu Jin was annoyed. “Dammit, you scared me.” She looked away, ignoring the Beta and focusing on the track with a lazy, detached expression.
Surprised by being ignored so thoroughly, the Beta was about to say something when a fierce-looking man with a scar on his face walked over, an arm wrapped around a timid-looking Beta. In the interstellar era, Alphas were the most powerful, and Omegas were the most precious and protected due to their rarity. Aside from the natural leaders and the protected, eighty percent of the population were Betas of average talent. Betas had very few pheromones but were the backbone of society’s workforce.
The man with the scar walked straight toward Gu Jin. He ignored Gu Jin’s playboy appearance and turned his attention to the small Beta beside her. “Damn it! Did they not say they prepared the best for me? Is this club hiding the good ones? I think this one is better than the one I have!”
Muttering curses, the man shoved aside the person he was holding and reached for the small Beta, who shrank closer to Gu Jin in fear. Gu Jin frowned impatiently. Was she cursed today? First she had to save Princess Wright, and now this unknown Beta. Seeing the man’s hand reaching closer, Gu Jin could not help but speak, though her tone remained flat. “What do you think you are doing?”
The man paused and looked at Gu Jin. Seeing a handsome but seemingly refined pretty boy in glasses, his confidence surged. “If you know what is good for you, get lost. Do not meddle in my business. I will have you know, I am a veteran who served under Young Marshal Gu! See this scar? I got this fighting the Zerg! If it were not for people like me, pretty boys like you would have been eaten alive long ago!”
The more Gu Jin listened, the more she wanted to laugh. Was there really such a disgrace among her subordinates? “Is that so? It sounds like your Young Marshal needs to investigate her troops more closely. Is this how she taught you to run rampant on the Capital Star?”
As she spoke, Gu Jin had already used her military computer to scan the man’s information. According to the records, he had indeed served for one year, but he had never been to the battlefield. He was kicked out of the military after a year for starting a brawl. Gu Jin felt relieved; she knew none of her soldiers would act like this.
“Damn you! How dare you insult the Young Marshal!” The man appeared to be defending Gu Jin’s honor, but she knew he was just using her name to cause trouble. As the man swung a punch at her, Gu Jin’s expression turned cold. She pushed aside the terrified Beta and delivered a clean, sharp kick that sent the man flying into the club’s wall. The impact-resistant wall crumpled like a sponge, leaving a perfect human-shaped indentation.
The massive noise startled everyone in the club. Even the racers coming off the track stopped to look. “Good grief! What kind of monstrous strength does it take to kick a perfect silhouette into a wall?”
Despite the kick, the man managed to pry himself out of the wall. He looked battered but could still stand. “You, who the hell are you? Just you wait!” Though clearly terrified, he shouted a few threats to save face.
Gu Jin rested her foot on a chair and her elbow on her knee, a rogue-like posture that, combined with the flashy suit and gold glasses, gave her the look of a refined beast in clothing. She yawned and looked at the man. “Remember this: my name is Carlo, King of Planet Loca. Furthermore, Gu Jin does not have trash like you under her command. If she found out you were using her name like this, how do you think she would kill you?”
The club management finally stepped in. At Gu Jin’s signal, they hauled the man off to the Interstellar Military Court. After dealing with the mess, Gu Jin gave a narcissistic smile to the adoring fans and departed coolly.
Before she had even left the club’s gates, a massive wave was already building on the Capital Star’s web. Images of “Carlo” at the terminal, the hotel, and the racing club went viral. In a single day, “Carlo” broke into the top ten Alphas people most want to marry.
Gu Jin was unaware of this. Similarly, she had no idea how furious Gu Ting was at the palace. He realized that choosing to trust Gu Jin was the greatest mistake of his life. Low profile? In less than half a day, she had turned the city upside down.
Meanwhile, at the interstellar embassy, someone else was watching the footage of “Carlo” with a deep frown. The blissfully unaware Gu Jin went back to the hotel to change into a dark brown checkered outfit before heading to the He family for her first meeting with Elder He.
Arriving at the He family gates, Gu Jin took a deep breath, stepped off the craft, and greeted the waiting old butler before heading inside.
