My Omega Rival in Love [Interstellar] - Chapter 30
He Yu looked at Grandfather He. Although she did not fear him as much as He Yi did, she held a deep respect for the grandfather who had doted on her since childhood despite his excessively serious and rigid nature.
However, this did not mean He Yu could fully accept Grandfather He’s views, especially the idea that an Omega was destined to return to the home.
Standing tall, He Yu looked Grandfather He directly in the eye without a hint of fear. “Grandfather, regarding my marriage, I hope to make my own decisions. I hope that one day, when I marry, it will be because I like that person and am willing to build a family with them, rather than because of a political alliance or because it is simply time to get married.”
“He Yu, you have been my pride since you were a child.” Grandfather He stood up, his expression solemn. “You have your own opinions and ideas. I have never stopped you. When you said you wanted to study mecha, I was able to overcome all opposition and spare no expense to build a personal laboratory for you at the mecha base on Planet Sasha.”
Grandfather He looked at the granddaughter he had always been most proud of. “You have never disappointed me either. You are even more outstanding than most Alphas. But Heaven does not always grant human wishes. He Yu, you are an Omega. Being too strong will not win you praise; it will only put you in a more awkward position. I can allow you to choose your own marriage partner, but I do not want you to plan on spending your life alone.”
Understanding his granddaughter thoroughly, Grandfather He saw through He Yu’s thoughts and immediately blocked her retreat.
However, just because Grandfather He understood did not mean He Yi could see his sister’s thoughts clearly. Seeing Grandfather He relent, He Yi immediately felt joyful.
Looking at the silent He Yu, he assumed she was too embarrassed to speak. At that moment, his sense of duty as a younger brother surged. He stepped forward, put his arm around his sister, and looked at Grandfather He with a grin. “Grandfather, do not worry. Sister already has someone she likes. As long as you do not object, she will definitely not spend her life alone.”
Stunned by her brother’s maneuver, He Yu looked at Grandfather He, whose expression had softened. She did not speak out to contradict him. As long as she could stop her grandfather from mentioning marriage for the time being, she would let the misunderstanding persist.
Thinking he had misunderstood his granddaughter, Grandfather He’s face was no longer so serious. He asked casually to see which boy was lucky enough to catch her eye, “Who is it?”
“Gu Jin, Major General Gu Jin!”
He Yi’s mouth moved as if it were equipped with an accelerator. Before He Yu could think of a way to muddle through, he had blurted out Gu Jin’s name.
He Yu thought that using Gu Jin as a shield might not be a bad idea, so she could only bite the bullet and remain silent. Since she had no plans to marry in the future and Gu Jin would never like her, it seemed like a safe choice.
Just as He Yu thought the crisis had passed, Grandfather He slammed his hand on the table with a loud thud, looking even angrier than before!
“Gu Jin?!” His voice was filled with disbelief as his majestic gaze fell upon He Yi. He Yi instantly became timid and nodded tremblingly, while even He Yu’s parents were startled.
“Father, Gu Jin is considered young and promising. Besides, she helped our family last time. She is the most outstanding Alpha. She is not exactly a bad match, is she?” He Yu’s father looked at his father. If Grandfather He looked down on even her, then there would be no one in the Weize Empire fit for He Yu.
Grandfather He’s lingering anger did not fade. He gave his son a cold look, and He Yu’s father immediately shut his mouth.
His gaze fell back on He Yu. “Even if she is outstanding, as long as her surname is Gu, it will not do!”
As soon as Grandfather He finished speaking, the room fell into a dead silence. He Yi scratched his head, his brain failing to take the hint, and he blurted out, “He Jin? That does not sound as good as Gu Jin.”
He Yu’s father immediately snatched his foolish son back.
He Yu’s father felt that he and his wife already had low emotional intelligence and were too focused on research, but their children were even more brainless, especially this foolish son. He Yi was only fit for fighting the Zerg, creatures that did not even have brain cells. In fact, high-level Zerg probably had more brains than his son.
Ignoring his troublesome grandson, Grandfather He suddenly felt that fate was out to destroy the He family. There were only two grandchildren in the main branch of the He family. He Yu had been the one closest to his heart since childhood. Grandfather He had even decided that even if He Yu were a Beta, he would hand the He family over to her.
But he never expected that He Yu would differentiate into an Omega. Although they were the most protected by regulations, they were truly a vulnerable group and lacked the right to inherit the family.
He could only turn his gaze back to his unreliable grandson. He Yi had done well to differentiate into an Alpha, but the more Grandfather He taught him, the more desperate he felt. He Yi was someone who had trained his brain into pure muscle!
Seeing no third possibility, Grandfather He could only try his best to support He Yu, hoping that in the future, while He Yi held power on the surface, He Yu would have the ability to assist him and keep the He family from falling.
But now, of all the people He Yu could like, she had to choose someone from the Royal Gu family, which was in direct opposition to the He family. The conflict between the Cabinet and the Royal Family had never been resolved since the system was established. Successive Prime Ministers and Emperors maintained this delicate balance. Therefore, it was absolutely impossible for the Prime Minister’s family and the Gu family to form an alliance through marriage.
There had only been one exception in history. That Prime Minister wanted to monopolize power and sideline the Royal Family, so he married his Omega son into the Royal Family to become the Empress, only to have his entire family executed by the Royal Family later.
Prime Minister He felt he had no such treasonous intentions and did not want his granddaughter to wade into those murky waters, let alone repeat that bloody history.
No one dared to speak. Grandfather He looked at the four of them, who did not seem to understand, and nearly fainted from frustration. “A marriage between the Cabinet and the Royal Family? Do you want the Empress’s relatives to monopolize power?”
Slapping the table, Grandfather He wanted to knock some sense into their heads, but he could only give them a hint to make them understand the stakes.
They understood, but He Yi still had one question. “But that Major General is just a Major General, not the Emperor.”
This time, without waiting for his son to move, Grandfather He slapped He Yi’s head. “The current Emperor and Empress have been married for many years without children. Who do you think the next Emperor will be?!”
“Well, there will always be…” He Yi stopped mid-sentence as he saw Grandfather He raise his cane. He quickly changed his tune. “I was wrong! I was wrong!”
“Humph!” With a cold snort, Grandfather He retracted his cane. “In addition, just looking at the power currently held by the Old Marshal and Gu Jin, the Royal military power is entirely in the hands of that father and daughter. Do you not think that being connected to them through marriage would draw more suspicion than being directly connected to the Emperor?”
“Therefore, He Yu, you can make your own decisions regarding your marriage, but only two points are forbidden. First, you are not allowed to remain unmarried. Second, you are not allowed to marry into the Royal Family!”
After listening to Grandfather He, He Yu unconsciously stroked her stomach, her eyes darkening. If marriage was already such a serious matter, then this child carrying Royal blood would be even more unacceptable.
Furthermore, if she truly married someone else, it would be impossible. Not to mention the child, she had not yet solved the issue of the permanent marking. It was not even a choice she could make.
Without a guarantee, He Yu did not want to lie to Grandfather He, so she remained silent. He Yi, standing nearby, grew anxious. “Sister, if all else fails, just coax the old man first. Coax him for as long as you can.”
Assuming his sister was being loyal to the Major General and would marry no one else, He Yi was both moved and worried. He could not help but mutter to himself that it was a shame the Major General was injured; otherwise, this would have been a perfect story of a hero saving a beauty.
“You will not agree?” Grandfather He’s face grew increasingly unsightly. He felt a genuine flash of anger toward his stubborn granddaughter for the first time. Especially after hearing He Yi’s whispered persuasion, seeing He Yu remain unmoved made his anger nearly blow the roof off!
“I cannot guarantee it, and I do not want to lie to Grandfather.” Finally speaking, He Yu did not want things to reach this point, but she had no choice.
Grandfather He laughed out of sheer anger and nodded. He Yu’s parents were terrified and tried to persuade her, but He Yu remained motionless, her head lowered in silence.
“The country has its laws, and the family has its rules. He Yu, if you are determined not to agree to these two conditions today, then do not blame me for being heartless! I cannot watch you destroy the He family and yourself!” Grandfather He leveled his cane. “I will beat you to death today! It is better than you marrying into the Gu family and harming everyone!”
With that, Grandfather He raised his cane to strike. He Yu stood still, while He Yi nearly died of anxiety. He quickly grabbed Grandfather He’s cane. “Grandfather, you cannot hit my sister! She is pregnant!”
He Yu’s parents were stunned.
Grandfather He was shocked.
He Yu was speechless.
She would rather have been beaten to death by her grandfather.
The scene seemed to freeze for a moment. He Yi only then realized what he had blurted out. He timidly let go of Grandfather He’s cane and stood honestly to the side like a quail, not daring to look at his sister’s face for fear she would suddenly decide to execute him.
Grandfather He also lowered his hand, his face unexpectedly calm. Of course, it might have been the precursor to going insane with rage. “Whose child is it?”
He Yu’s parents also quietly let go of the old man’s hands and turned to look. They also wanted to know the answer. Which scoundrel had done such a wicked thing?!
Gu Jin: “Achoo! Achoo!”
While the He family was in a state of chaos, Gu Jin finally emerged from the gaming pod after defeating a group of low-level players. Looking at the darkened sky outside, she rubbed her head and sat up, only to be startled by another dark figure in her room.
“Damn it, Gu Ting, are you trying to use shock to cause a sudden heart attack so you can fake my accidental death?” Shaking her head, Gu Jin snapped her fingers, turning on the lights that Gu Ting had deliberately turned off. She climbed out of the gaming pod and stretched.
With a dark face, Gu Ting did not fool around with Gu Jin this time. He turned around and looked at her with a calm expression. “My people received news that the He family is having a family banquet, inviting descendants of He family branches from various planets across the Empire.”
“You even have to watch them eat dinner? Are you that bored?” Perhaps because she had no hostility toward the He family, Gu Jin did not think much of Gu Ting’s words and did not take them to heart.
“But Wen Zhixin also went.” Looking at the indifferent Gu Jin, Gu Ting suppressed his temper and handed over another piece of information.
Gu Jin recalled Wen Zhixin coming over to talk to He Yu at the banquet hall. Her eyes narrowed, then she spread her hands toward Gu Ting. “It is useless to tell me. I am currently a ‘seriously injured person’ whose life is uncertain. I cannot go and catch them in the act.”
“Are you ever going to stop, Gu Jin?!” Gu Ting could no longer keep up his facade. Letting Gu Jin guess for herself was a huge mistake!
“Over the years, the He family has befriended various major families, vigorously cultivated branch descendants, and continuously placed trusted aides in key positions throughout the Capital Planet. In the past, I turned a blind eye. But this time, they are even getting involved with the Wen family. I trust the Wen family, but I fear the worst-case scenario. Do you understand?” Poking Gu Jin’s head, Gu Ting lectured her, wishing he could drill some sense into her brain!
Gu Jin nodded nonchalantly. “I understand. So, what can this ‘seriously injured person’ do?” Besides faking illness or death, she really could not do anything.
“I will give you an opportunity for an assignment, letting you change your identity and go out to have some fun. How about it?” Gu Ting turned and put his arm around his younger sister like a good friend, a wicked smile on his face.
