My Omega Rival in Love [Interstellar] - Chapter 22
He Yu’s eyelid twitched. She tightened her grip on Gu Jin’s collar and gave her a fierce glare. Releasing her hold, she pulled her foot back from Gu Jin’s wheelchair. “Then play with your friends. I am leaving.”
Seeing that He Yu was genuinely angry, Gu Jin panicked as the other woman turned toward the door. She steered her wheelchair to catch up with He Yu. “I was just joking with you. Do you not think they are cute?”
“Get lost,” He Yu replied.
He Yu did not even bother to look back as she threw the word over her shoulder. She kept walking. She knew she should never have believed Gu Jin’s lies, given her malicious personality.
Gu Jin realized she might have truly crossed the line this time. Just as she was wondering how to apologize, He Yu suddenly stopped.
“Make them all leave.”
He Yu stared at the small animals gathered before her. Even though they tried their best to appear harmless, she felt her skin crawl.
Now that He Yu had spoken, Gu Jin was ready to agree to anything. However, Gu Jin had a feeling that if she let them go now, it would be difficult to get them back. “Listen to my explanation. I did not expect this either. I used to use this place as an amusement park, and most of these are my toys. They are various small animals I adopted, but I left them here and forgot about them. I did not remember this until I opened the room just now, so I did not mean to scare you.”
“My biggest mistake was standing by while you were being surrounded. However, I knew then that they would not hurt you. They look terrifying, but they are actually herbivores.”
As Gu Jin spoke to He Yu, she winked at the group of small animals. A mutated little mouse reluctantly pulled a carrot from behind its back and began to crunch on it.
Seeing this, the other animals also began to reluctantly produce various vegetables from unknown places. For a moment, every animal in the cockpit was chewing on vegetarian food.
“Where did those things in their hands come from?” He Yu had been watching them closely; they definitely were not holding anything a moment ago. Where did these items come from? Was it a new result of their mutation?
Faced with a field of study she did not understand, He Yu forgot she was supposed to be angry.
Gu Jin was momentarily stunned by the question, but she reacted quickly.
“They each have a quantum compression ring on their backs that I installed to store things. Furthermore, they are mutated. They can eat meat as well as vegetables. Since so many species live together, if they ate meat, they would likely eat each other while I am away. Therefore, they eat vegetables.”
“Wait a moment,” He Yu said as a realization dawned on her. She turned to Gu Jin. “Did you raise these before you went to Planet Rota, or after you returned?”
Although she did not know why He Yu was asking, Gu Jin answered honestly. “I have raised them since I was a child. It has been about ten years now.”
“So, the poisonous snakes, mice, and ants that appeared mysteriously on my desk in the past were all placed there by you? And you told me that Wen Zhixin was researching those things and that they must have escaped from him, right?”
He Yu’s gaze turned dangerous. Gu Jin finally remembered those incidents and steered her wheelchair slowly backward, a strained smile on her face. “Well, it was not entirely my doing. Sometimes they ran over there on their own.”
He Yu gave her a cold smile and stepped toward Gu Jin. “Then who put breadcrumbs on my desk, causing a flock of birds to swarm it and leave bird droppings everywhere?”
“Ahem.” Gu Jin’s eyes darted around. Her wheelchair hit the edge of the control room with a thud. “I did not expect there to be so many birds. I thought you might like them.”
“Like them? Like hell I did!” He Yu kicked the wall next to Gu Jin’s head. She rested her elbow on her raised knee and looked down at Gu Jin with narrowed eyes. “There are no outsiders here today, so let us set aside those old grudges and settle a new one. The more I think about this, the more suspicious it feels. You said that after we had dinner with Tao Ran’s family, I got drunk. Why were we at your house the next day? And why did that incident happen?”
Gu Jin felt she was being wrongly accused. Since she believed she was not at fault, she spoke with confidence.
“You see, you have a bad memory when you are drunk. I took you home in my aircraft that night, but you grabbed my collar and insisted that you liked me. You have no idea how it was.”
“Keep making things up,” He Yu said. She did not believe a single word of the latter half of the story. She had enough self-confidence to know that she would sooner strangle Gu Jin than tell her she liked her.
Having been seen through immediately, Gu Jin felt embarrassed. “Actually, there is a small discrepancy. You did grab my collar and shake me, but you were insisting on strangling me to death.”
“That sounds more like it,” He Yu replied, gesturing for Gu Jin to continue.
Gu Jin gave He Yu a resentful look. “I was flying the aircraft at the time, and you were pulling on me, so I had to set it to autopilot. I did not know where your house was, so I set the destination to my home. That is how we ended up there.”
“So you were sober at the time? You took advantage of me!” He Yu had previously assumed Gu Jin was as intoxicated as she was, but now it was clear the woman had been fully conscious.
Gu Jin was at a loss for words.
“You are wronging me. I immediately ordered a suppressant and stayed away from you. When the suppressant arrived, I went to your room to administer the injection, but you wrapped your arms around my neck and refused to let me leave. I am absolutely not lying about that. Then, as you know, pheromones were everywhere. Under those circumstances, no Alpha could have maintained control.”
Thinking of He Yu with her arms around her neck and her face flushed, Gu Jin began to blush.
He Yu, seeing this, was filled with rage. “If the suppressant was administered, how could I have remained in my heat cycle?”
“The quality of that suppressant must have been poor. I will give them a bad review and file a complaint when I get back.” Gu Jin thought for a moment. “However, I do not know much about this area. It is possible that because we were both in heat, the interference of the pheromones weakened the effectiveness of the suppressant.”
He Yu, who was very familiar with suppressants, did not believe her. She thought Gu Jin had done it on purpose. She grabbed Gu Jin. “You are still lying to me. The purpose of a suppressant is to inhibit the heat cycle. No matter how severe it is, if both parties are injected, a pheromone disorder is impossible.”
“What if alcohol is the weakness of the suppressant?” Gu Jin felt something was wrong. She feared she would never be able to clear her name.
“Suppressants have no such weakness. Some people even inject suppressants before or immediately after drinking because they are worried the alcohol will trigger their heat cycle.” He Yu looked at Gu Jin with disdain. The more Gu Jin lied, the more suspicious she appeared.
“Wait a minute,” Gu Jin interrupted. She reached for her wrist before remembering that Gu Ting had confiscated her terminal. “Let me use your terminal to check the order.”
Gu Jin recalled that the robot seemed to have something to say when she picked up the suppressant, but she had assumed it was just instructions for use and ignored it. She realized she might have missed something important.
Normally, a terminal is an extremely private item that one would not lend out. However, given the situation, He Yu did not hesitate. She opened the interface and handed it to Gu Jin.
With He Yu’s cooperation, Gu Jin verified her identity and quickly began searching for the order. It was easy to find, as it was the only thing she had purchased since returning to the Capital Planet.
When Gu Jin and He Yu saw the order information, their eyes widened in disbelief.
“Order canceled, no one to receive delivery. What does this mean?” Gu Jin checked repeatedly to ensure the address and item were correct. The large red words were unmistakable.
“Then what did we inject that day? Did someone else’s delivery get sent there by mistake?”
Not only had they failed to solve the previous problem, but they had also discovered a new piece of bad news. Gu Jin and He Yu fell into deep thought.
Two minutes later, Gu Jin grabbed He Yu’s hand. “No, we have no idea what we injected that day. We must get an examination. Come, we are going to the hospital right now.”
He Yu agreed that an examination was necessary for her peace of mind. She nodded, ignoring the fact that Gu Jin was holding her hand. Just as she was about to follow Gu Jin out, she suddenly remembered the “thing” in her stomach!
“Wait!” He Yu pulled Gu Jin back, her voice filled with agitation. How could she go to the hospital with Gu Jin? If she had an examination, there was no way she could keep the child a secret. She could not go; if she went, she had to go alone.
While He Yu was panic-stricken, Gu Jin turned back. “Why are you so excited? It is just a physical examination. Rest assured, if there are any problems, I will bear all the losses.”
Assuming He Yu was nervous about the unknown substance, Gu Jin tried to comfort her. She felt that anyone would find it hard to remain calm in such a situation.
“I feel fine right now. I do not need to go with you. I will go to the hospital on my own later.” He Yu pulled her hand back. Since this was her first time lying, she appeared unnatural, and the guilt in her eyes was obvious.
Seeing Gu Jin’s searching gaze, He Yu felt even more guilty. She looked at the cockpit. “Did you not say I was going to pilot the mecha? Let us put the examination aside for now.”
Although Gu Jin found He Yu’s reaction strange, she did not push the matter. Since the hospital belonged to her family, she could simply check the results after He Yu finished her examination.
“If you do not want to go now, we can talk about it later.” Gu Jin nodded and looked around at the cockpit, which had been taken over by small animals. “Stop eating and clean up the trash!”
The small animals felt aggrieved. They thought Gu Jin was too difficult to serve, as she was the one who told them to eat in the first place.
Under Gu Jin’s pressure, the animals quickly cleaned up the mess they had made and returned to where they came from.
Watching these animals, who were exceptionally obedient and seemed to understand human nature, He Yu’s attention was diverted from her anxiety. “How did you get them to be so obedient?”
In the current era, although humans had evolved significantly, animals had only developed bodies better suited to the environment; their brains had not developed much. Most animals were still unable to understand human behavior.
“Perhaps I am exceptionally gifted,” Gu Jin replied shamelessly with a shrug.
Once all the animals had left, Gu Jin started the automatic cleaning system in the cockpit. He Yu noticed that the animals had brought in some soil. In the current era, the Capital Planet had been completely terraformed; it was difficult to find even a trace of natural soil on the surface.
He Yu noted this suspicious point but did not ask further. She watched Gu Jin’s operations intently.
