My Idol Turns Out To Be My Ex-Girlfriend - Chapter 30
Yang Jiayan followed Han Shen’s gaze. Among the crowd, she saw an exceptionally tall and beautiful woman standing amidst the pristine white snow. Despite the flowing current of people in the background, none of the scenery could compare to her.
In all her life, Yang Jiayan had never encountered a woman like this. Whether it was her features or her aura, she exuded a sense of luxury and natural elegance that stood out from skin to bone. She was as exquisite as a painting, appearing almost surreal in a real-world setting.
Yang Jiayan frowned imperceptibly. She wanted to greet this stranger with her usual composure, but for some reason, when the woman’s calm gaze swept over her, her body stiffened. A sense of exposure and helplessness washed over her, freezing the words in her throat, even though those eyes held no particular emotion.
Tang Hengzhi withdrew her gaze and glanced at Han Shen, nodding slightly. It was a polite enough greeting. She didn’t speak, mostly because she didn’t know the man’s name, though it was obvious he had seen her somewhere before.
He recognized her.
Han Shen looked somewhat eager, as if he had caught a rare opportunity and wanted to step forward to strike up a conversation.
Suddenly, an arm reached over from behind Tang Hengzhi and rested on her shoulder. He Wenyu unceremoniously touched Tang’s cold cheek, looking both annoyed and amused.
“I’m seriously over you. You’re the one who suddenly went crazy and said you wanted to go skiing, so I came with you. Then you don’t say a word the whole way and just stand here like a fool. What, are you trying to be an ice sculpture? You aren’t even wearing a face mask, your poor face is freezing from the wind.”
Tang Hengzhi pulled back her gaze, pushed the hand away, and said indifferently, “Let’s go.”
Han Shen watched their departing figures with lingering reluctance. He wasn’t some impulsive brat who would rush up and demand a WeChat ID the moment he saw a target. He gave a helpless smile.
There would be other opportunities.
“Holy crap, why do you look like you’re about to eat someone? Do you know that guy?” He Wenyu’s expression was exaggerated, and her tone even more so, making it easy to think she was making a mountain out of a molehill.
In reality, Tang Hengzhi’s expression was flat, but after being friends for so many years, He Wenyu could keenly sense that her mood was slightly off.
“I don’t know him,” Tang Hengzhi said softly, her voice faint.
“But from the look of him, he seemed to know you.”
Tang Hengzhi glanced at her. “Quite a lot of people know me.”
He Wenyu was speechless. That was true… whether in the art world or online, plenty of people knew Tang Hengzhi these days.
He Wenyu nudged her with her shoulder. “Didn’t your arm just finish healing? Why the sudden urge to ski?”
“Don’t you think…” Tang Hengzhi’s gaze drifted across the crowded ski resort, her eyes looking hollow. “I look pretty cool when I ski?”
He Wenyu was horrified. “No way? Are you possessed? Since when did you become so narcissistic?”
Tang Hengzhi didn’t answer. Her eyes were no longer hollow. She had found an inconspicuous figure in an inconspicuous corner.
A large snowboard was propped up behind the girl. She was sitting in a snowdrift, seemingly unafraid of the cold, playing with the snow by herself without any gloves. However, the snow in that spot was too loose, more like snow dust than packable snow, making it difficult to roll into balls.
Snowballs formed in her palms only to crumble away when shaken. Her palms were frozen bright red, yet she continued tirelessly. Perhaps she wasn’t even having fun, just killing time.
Tang Hengzhi spaced out for a moment, only snapping out of it when the girl playing with the snow sneezed and sniffled. She narrowed her eyes and remained silent, but He Wenyu felt her grow irritable again.
Tang Hengzhi started to walk over.
“Lin Sanyuan!” a boy shouted the name from a distance, his tone strange. It was overly articulated and laced with malice.
He Wenyu heard it and froze. Lin Sanyuan. The name sounded so familiar. Wasn’t that her brother’s wife?
She looked toward the sound and saw a young man with dyed yellow hair on a sloped incline. He let out a monkey-like “Ooh-hoo!” screech as he balanced on his snowboard and charged down the steep slope. He kicked up a fierce wave of snow, intentionally dousing Lin Sanyuan and covering her in white.
Lin Sanyuan seemed to have accidentally inhaled some snow dust. She choked, clutching her lips and coughing miserably.
Tang Hengzhi’s eyes narrowed further.
“Damn it! That little yellow-hair!” He Wenyu, with her own dyed red hair, rolled up her sleeves and prepared to charge.
Chen Shashuai maneuvered his board to a stop in front of Lin Sanyuan. “Hey beauty, remember me? We met at the hospital. How about adding me on WeChat?”
Lin Sanyuan stood up and pulled a pack of tissues from her pocket. Ignoring him entirely, as if he weren’t even a man, she blew her nose loudly, crumpled the tissue, and turned to throw it in the trash. After tossing it, she realized she’d forgotten her board—it cost over three thousand yuan, after all—so she went back to pick it up, ready to leave.
Chen Shashuai’s face darkened. He reached out to grab her arm. “I’m talking to you! Don’t you know you’re being incredibly rude?”
Lin Sanyuan didn’t think his act of splashing snow on her was particularly polite either. However, she was quite experienced in handling such situations.
Since Chen Shashuai’s feet were still strapped to his board, his movement was restricted. Lin Sanyuan stepped back, easily dodging his grasp. She put on a proud, “ordinary-yet-confident” little expression that most men find unbearable. She wasn’t great at looking down her nose at people—she found the gesture a bit embarrassing—but she instinctively flared her nostrils and said calmly, “I have a boyfriend.”
Sure enough, Chen Shashuai reacted like a cat whose tail had been stepped on. Just as women can’t stand “ordinary-yet-confident” men, he couldn’t stand this classic rejection line used on “simps.”
He gnashed his teeth in anger. “What does you having a boyfriend have to do with me? I don’t mean it like that. We’re just in the same hobby circle, it’s just a WeChat contact.”
Lin Sanyuan played the part of a brain-dead girl in love. “Oh, my boyfriend is pretty bossy. He checks my phone every day and won’t let me add other guys.”
But she underestimated Chen Shashuai’s thick skin. He stuck to her like a piece of gum. “Fine, don’t add me then. Let’s just do a lap together, I’ll lead you.”
He had timed it well, stepping in only after seeing that Qiao Lian wasn’t around.
Lin Sanyuan said, “I don’t know how to play.”
“That’s why I’m teaching you! I’m really good at this, I guarantee I can teach you. This board looks new, right? Isn’t it boring just playing with snow by yourself?”
“Oh my god, oh my god! This yellow-haired kid is so sleazy! Is he trying to teach her? He’s clearly looking for an excuse to touch her. His eyes haven’t left Sanyuan’s chest once. I’m gonna puke, his look is so disgusting!”
He Wenyu was so angry she punched Tang Hengzhi’s shoulder as she walked, cursing under her breath, ready to give the guy a kick.
Then, she saw Lin Sanyuan standing there with a blank, dazed face, looking like someone easy to bully.
But her hands were busy. Using her new ski pole, she gave a hidden, downward jab. The movement was as fast as a cat unsheathing a claw. Because her face was so deceptive, the yellow-haired guy was caught off guard. The pole poked precisely at the bottom of his board.
The angle was tricky, the force clever. Lin Sanyuan had a natural talent for mischief.
In an instant, the yellow-haired guy lost his balance and performed a face-plant right in front of her.
“Cough, cough, cough!!!!” Now it was his turn to inhale a chest full of snow dust, coughing until his lungs felt torn and his nose started running.
Lin Sanyuan took two steps back, holding her snowboard with one hand, hiding half of her small face behind it. She stared at him with wide, round eyes. With her other hand, she poked the ground with the “guilty” ski pole. Her expression wasn’t exactly innocent; it was more like a sneaky cat, entirely devoid of guilt. Her voice had a slight, mocking lilt:
“Ah, but it looks like your skiing skills aren’t that great either. I’m actually quite afraid of falling.”
It was as if she felt bad that he had embarrassed himself by falling in front of her, and she awkwardly kicked at the snow.
He Wenyu paused for three seconds, her light-colored eyes wide with shock. “Wait, what?”
She patted Tang Hengzhi’s shoulder blankly. “Don’t you think the way she looked just now… was exactly like that ‘Evil Silver Shaded Cat’ meme on my phone?”
She felt like Lin Sanyuan’s “persona” was starting to crumble.
Tang Hengzhi couldn’t hold it back anymore. A clear, beautiful laugh escaped her lips.
Chen Shashuai hadn’t expected to fail so miserably. He was dizzy with rage, his neck turning red. “I tried to be nice to you, and you’re going to act like this?”
It looked like he was about to start hurling insults.
The commotion drew the attention of others. Yang Jiayan ran over, seeing Chen Shashuai sitting on the ground covered in snow and cursing. She nudged Lin Sanyuan with her elbow and asked, “What’s going on? Why is it like this?”
Chen Shashuai sneered. “Yan-zi, your friend here has quite the ego. Acting like adding her on WeChat is some major crime. I saw her squatting here alone not knowing how to ski, so I made a joke and offered to help her out. What’s she pretending for? She even pushed me over. Look at me, what are you going to do about this?”
The onlookers looked at each other. Even without seeing the whole thing, they could guess what happened. They knew Chen Shashuai’s character; he didn’t have much education and was getting on in years. Relying on the fact that his father was the deputy director of the county hospital, he acted like a spoiled prince. His family was well-off, but he was stuck in the middle, idling away his time as a male nurse at his father’s hospital.
He was arrogant. Clearly, he had been rejected for a WeChat ID and had flown into a rage. Still, for a social outing, there was no need to make things so tense. Adding a contact wasn’t a big deal, and making someone lose face wasn’t a great look either.
Yang Jiayan wanted to advise her, but Lin Sanyuan spoke first. “Are you an old man? Did you break a bone or become disabled from one fall? Why does something ‘need to be done’? Why don’t I just check you into the hospital. I’m sure you’re quite familiar with that process.”
Chen Shashuai’s teeth chattered with rage. “How dare you speak to me like that!”
Lin Sanyuan shook her head. “It’s nothing. I just think you’re quite fragile and your skills are lacking, yet you wanted to lead me… I’m just afraid if you really got hurt, you’d try to extort me.”
“Pfft…” Someone in the crowd of onlookers couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
