My Idol Turns Out To Be My Ex-Girlfriend - Chapter 16
“Why don’t you try being the ‘Top’?”
Jiang Chuanwu truly harbored no ill will or hostility toward her, and he wasn’t lying when he said he felt at ease around her. He knew perfectly well that she posed absolutely no threat to him. After all, she was so ordinary that she didn’t even qualify as a hypothetical rival in anyone’s mind.
Jiang Chuanwu wasn’t worried in the slightest that He Ye would fall for her. In fact, he was more likely to get jealous over some random woman He Ye met at a bar than he was over her.
Lin Sanyuan remembered when she first started blind dating He Ye. He had striking looks, an elite family background, and a playful, charming personality. Even though he was flamboyant and a bit of a playboy, he possessed a natural charisma.
Lin Sanyuan had never encountered a rich young master like him before. She had racked her brain trying to figure out what part of her could possibly attract someone like that or make her worth his genuine affection. She wrote novels for a living, but she didn’t get lost in her own stories. The trope of a wealthy heir falling for an ordinary Cinderella was considered incredibly cliché and outdated in the literary world.
However, during that period, He Ye’s persistence and relentless pursuit made him the most “serious” suitor in her long history of blind dates. As time went on, she couldn’t help but feel her resolve waver. She started to think that maybe, just maybe, there was finally someone in this world willing to put in the effort to love her.
Back then, Lin Sanyuan would often agonize over whether she should crack open her stubborn, “steel-straight” head and pour in some romance-novel logic to brainwash herself. He Ye was handsome, possessed high emotional intelligence, and the way he looked at her was different from those greasy blind dates, it wasn’t lecherous at all.
It wasn’t until later that she discovered He Ye’s motives for approaching her were half-baked. Jiang Chuanwu had sought her out for a talk, one that was completely devoid of hostility. She ended up scoring a free meal at a high-end restaurant out of it.
The entire time Jiang Chuanwu explained the situation, he remained calm. His goal in asking her out wasn’t to “mark his territory.” He was a deeply confident man, confident to the point where he didn’t need to overact, he simply took it for granted that He Ye belonged only to him. He hadn’t invited her to dinner because of He Ye, either. He was simply considerate enough to worry that she might get hurt or caught in the crossfire of their complicated relationship.
Even a refined, cultured man from a political family like Jiang Chuanwu assumed that, in this absurd blind dating process, she would naturally fall head-over-heels for He Ye. He worried that when she eventually found out the truth and was cast aside, the blow would be devastating enough to concern someone like him.
The whole situation was quite dramatic. Yet, upon learning everything, Lin Sanyuan didn’t feel the anger of being fooled. Instead, it was more like waking up from a long dream. To use a popular internet phrase: “Look at that, I almost thought I was loved.”
While she said that, she didn’t actually feel all that much melancholy or regret. After that meal with Jiang Chuanwu, she felt a weight lift off her shoulders.
He Ye, who had just put on his helmet, suddenly let out a surprised sound, “I remember that’s your apartment, right? Since when did you get a little roommate? Ever since you walked downstairs, she’s been watching us from your window. That hairstyle of hers is pretty trendy.”
Lin Sanyuan followed He Ye’s gaze up toward the building. Qiao Lian was holding a cup, silently watching everything from the window. When her eyes met Lin Sanyuan’s, she didn’t look away, she even gave a little wave.
He Ye revved the engine, looking fascinated, “I just remembered, I heard some punks say you picked up a drunk woman and brought her home the other night, claiming she was your ‘husband.’ Is that her?”
Lin Sanyuan caught her breath the wrong way and started coughing violently on her own saliva. When he said that, he hadn’t lowered his voice at all, and she lived on the second floor. There was no way Qiao Lian didn’t hear him.
“Do you want to die? What are you blabbering about!” Lin Sanyuan pounded on his back, wishing she could shove him down a manhole. She covered her face helplessly, not daring to look at the expression on Qiao Lian’s face upstairs.
“Hey, hey,” He Ye nudged her with his elbow, speaking in an exaggerated tone as if he’d discovered a new continent, “Something’s not right. She’s actually blushing. Holy crap, a real lesbian! This is the first time I’ve seen a live one in real life. Sanyuan, look at you go! This works! This really works! She’s pretty! I totally approve of this union!”
“Why don’t you try being the ‘Top’? Our family already has me as a ‘Bottom,’ which is a bit embarrassing for our reputation. If you’re going to be a lesbian, be a ‘Macho Top.’ I’ll even prepare the dowry for you!”
He seemed over-the-top excited, acting like he’d finally found a fellow member of his tribe.
Lin Sanyuan looked up. The window was closed, and Qiao Lian was no longer in sight. She said crossly, “She’s probably blushing because you made her angry. Why are you so excited? Aren’t you gay yourself?”
Why was he acting like such a rube? Wait, as soon as she said that, she realized it sounded wrong. It made it seem like she was admitting to being a lesbian. She quickly added, “Stop overthinking it. I’m not in that kind of relationship with her. She’s just a high school student.”
He Ye gasped, “No way, sis. You usually look so well-behaved, but you’re wilder than I am. A high schooler…”
Lin Sanyuan started to get angry, “If you say one more word of nonsense, I’m getting off.”
“Okay, okay, I’ll stop.”
He Ye propped himself up with his long legs, and the engine roared to life, speeding away with a wild trail of exhaust. Lin Sanyuan sat on the back seat of the motorcycle, leaning her body back as far as possible, her hands gripping the edges of the tail seat behind her. The distance between them was like the Great Wall. She felt the bike vibrating beneath her like a giant beast, the wind filling her sleeves as she experienced the unique primal energy and tension of a motorcycle.
He Ye’s home wasn’t a standard urban apartment, it was a small lakeside villa. The motorcycle sped along a forest road where they barely saw another car. Families living in places like this clearly had a certain level of wealth.
When they reached the courtyard, Lin Sanyuan took off her helmet and handed it back to He Ye. Before she could even get off the bike, a red BMW parked in the yard let out a beep. A woman stepped out of the car, her gaze landing on Lin Sanyuan with a cryptic, playful smile in her eyes.
“So she can actually sit on the back of your bike. He Ye, you’re serious this time.”
The woman was wearing a well-tailored grey cashmere coat, a short skirt, high-heeled boots, and she walked over with calm, elegant steps. When she reached out a hand toward Lin Sanyuan, a silver-blue lady’s watch glinted on her wrist. She smiled politely, her temperament quiet and reserved, carrying the dignified aura of a mature woman. “Hello, I’m He Ye’s sister, He Wenyu.”
Lin Sanyuan was stunned by this woman’s sheer intellectual beauty. She couldn’t imagine that a brat like He Ye could have a sister like this. Her aura reminded her of a literature teacher. Lin Sanyuan felt like an elementary schooler meeting a high-level boss, she shook her hand nervously, not daring to grip too hard.
“Hello, Sister.”
He Ye, however, had an expression like he had a toothache as he looked at his sister, as if she were some strange creature. “Sis, why aren’t you going inside? If I recall correctly, this is your house.”
He Wenyu lifted the plastic bag in her hand, which seemed to contain things like medicinal oil and bandages. “A friend had a minor collision while driving this afternoon, her arm was dislocated and fractured. I’m buying some medicine for her.”
He Ye’s eyes bugged out, “Dislocated and fractured? You call that a minor collision? That’s a broken bone! Instead of taking her to the hospital, you brought her home?”
He Wenyu smiled, “We went to the hospital. The doctor said it wasn’t too serious and she just needs to rest at home. There’s no one to look after her at her place, so she’s staying here for a couple of days.” She turned her gaze back to Lin Sanyuan, her tone apologetic, “I’m so sorry, Sanyuan. This was very sudden. My friend was driving while fatigued, and when I went to pick her up, she was completely out of it. I really couldn’t leave her alone. Do you mind if there’s one more person for dinner tonight?”
Before Lin Sanyuan could speak, He Ye started barking like a dog, “No way, no way! Sis, this is the first time I’ve brought a girlfriend home, and you pull this stunt? You’re not taking her seriously at all. If my girlfriend runs away, you’re going to be responsible!”
Lin Sanyuan gave him a subtle look. Honestly, when it came to being a total “dog,” He Ye was terrifyingly good at it. His words were calculated with a hundred hidden motives. He had already thought of an exit strategy, if the two of them broke up later, it would be his sister’s fault.
“That’s enough.” He Wenyu naturally held the power of “bloodline suppression” over her younger brother, and she wasn’t buying his act at all. She lazily raised an eyelid, “How much longer do you plan on making your girlfriend stand out here?”
He Ye, who was famously arrogant and wild outside, obediently tucked his tail between his legs and began leading the way like a little servant.
Lin Sanyuan was speechless with shock. Was this guy’s family status really this low?
The living room in He Ye’s house was huge. The interior design was unlike anything Lin Sanyuan, who did design herself, had ever seen. The open kitchen was bathed in layered lighting, giving off a warm, honey-like glow.
This was Lin Sanyuan’s first time stepping into the private world of the truly wealthy. From the moment she entered, she felt stiff and nervous, not knowing where to put her hands. She could only cast a pleading glance toward He Ye, the only person she was familiar with.
Who could have guessed that this “dog” of a young master wouldn’t understand the struggles of an ordinary person at all? He completely missed her signal. He kicked off his boots and headed straight for the fridge to look for ice cream.
Crap! He just left her at the entrance. Which pair of slippers was she supposed to wear? She was still carrying armfuls of gift boxes! She had been too careless. She forgot that this guy was a “Princess Bottom” who was used to being taken care of by a boyfriend. Around Jiang Chuanwu, he was pampered beyond belief, he had probably lost all basic life skills. If you wanted this young master to be considerate and take care of people… forget it.
He Ye’s only bit of conscience was finding two boxes of ice cream. He turned around and looked at Lin Sanyuan, completely oblivious to her embarrassment and awkwardness. “Sanyuan, you want some ice cream? It’s vanilla, your favorite.”
Well… she had never said she liked vanilla ice cream. He probably just did a process of elimination because those were the only two boxes left, and vanilla was the flavor he didn’t like. Why was he trying to act like a devoted boyfriend now?
Fortunately, He Wenyu brought a pair of slippers from the cabinet and couldn’t help but remark to Lin Sanyuan, “I honestly don’t know what you see in this guy.”
Lin Sanyuan laughed internally. What a relatable comment. Finally, someone who felt that He Ye was the one not good enough for her. The sister was truly gentle.
He Ye’s mother was chopping vegetables when she saw He Ye acting out of line. She smacked him on the back of the head, clearly annoyed. “Look at yourself.” But her voice was very low, as if she were afraid of scaring Lin Sanyuan.
She suppressed the urge to lecture her son and walked over with a smile to take the items from Lin Sanyuan’s hands, “Oh, it’s just a casual home-cooked meal. Sanyuan, you didn’t need to bring any gifts.”
Mother He’s attitude was unexpectedly kind and welcoming.
