My Husband is Suspicious - Episode 20
Eleanor walked to her desk and looked for the tracker. To track Dreid, she had to use the compass-like tracker. That way, she could check where he went one by one.
As Eleanor was diligently rummaging through her desk, a voice suddenly spoke.
“What are you looking for?”
Mackiv, who had arrived without her noticing, looked at Eleanor with curious eyes.
“The tracker.”
Eleanor said indifferently. And then she was rummaging through documents again.
“Are you perhaps looking for this?”
Mackiv, somehow having found it, held out the tracker to Eleanor.
“Where did you find it?”
“It was right here.”
Mackiv pointed to the pile of documents in front of him. Eleanor bent down to look nearby, then lifted her head. At that moment, her eyes met Mackiv’s. He smiled gently.
“I’m good at finding things.”
“…….”
Eleanor, speechless, slowly straightened up and said,
“Thank you, anyway.”
Then she quickly took the tracker from him.
“But what’s going on? Using a tracker means it’s quite a big deal, doesn’t it?”
Mackiv looked on with curious eyes. Strangely, he seemed sharp-witted in these matters.
She didn’t usually use the tracker. It was difficult to plant it without being detected, and retrieving it was also tricky. Moreover, she rarely used it due to the risk of being caught.
“You know a lot about my business.”
Eleanor said as she activated the tracker.
“I’m very interested.”
It was at the moment Eleanor looked up at his unexpected words.
“I’m sorry, Ms. Eleanor!”
Pitty burst in, shouting loudly. Eleanor looked at her, unable to see Mackiv’s expression. Pitty looked crestfallen, as if she were guilty of being late.
“What happened?”
When Eleanor asked, Pitty’s complexion worsened.
“Ah, nothing happened, it’s just that I…”
“Overslept?”
Mackiv said then. Pitty looked at Mackiv as if in despair, then offered an excuse to Eleanor.
“I’m sorry, Ms. Eleanor. I think I thoughtlessly worked on the magic item design too late yesterday.”
“It’s alright. Anyone can oversleep.”
Eleanor was unfazed. Pitty was usually a diligent assistant and rarely late like this.
“Thank you for understanding.”
Pitty said as if greatly relieved and quickly sat down. As Mackiv went beside her, some bickering sounds could be heard. They seemed to be speaking too quietly for Eleanor to hear, but…
“How could you say that there?”
“Why? Isn’t honesty good?”
“Even so, saying that makes me feel awkward.”
“Are you perhaps a wicked boss, Ms. Eleanor?”
“No! Wicked, how dare you!”
At that moment, Eleanor felt eyes glancing at her. It was embarrassing to pretend not to hear their voices, even though she could hear them all. But Eleanor didn’t show it. Showing it would be even more embarrassing. Eleanor fiddled with the tracker as if nothing were wrong.
“Then why are you so restless?”
“Sigh, forget it. But what’s with the morning call?”
Just then, the phone rang. Simultaneously, a red light flashed on the tracker. Eleanor smiled. Finally, the tracker had caught Dreid. Now, following this red light would be a matter of time.
Eleanor looked back at Pitty. Tracking alone seemed too much for her. Sometimes she needed to calculate positions, and Eleanor was weak at math.
It wasn’t that she couldn’t do it, but the numbers changed by the second, requiring constant attention, which often led to mistakes when she was busy and alone. So, she needed someone beside her to quickly calculate the positions.
Meanwhile, Pitty’s expression as she spoke on the phone was not good. Her voice grew lower and lower throughout the call.
‘Something else must have happened.’
Eleanor felt a bad premonition. And her premonition came true.
“Ms. Eleanor.”
Pitty’s voice was tinged with awkwardness.
“Is something wrong?”
“…It seems I’ll have to be at the courthouse all day this time.”
“Did things get that complicated?”
Pitty nodded with a dejected look. This was blatant obstruction now. Things had gotten so complicated. Eleanor looked at the tracker in her hand. The red light was still nearby.
But she was nearing the boundary of what she could track. If she didn’t hurry, she could lose Dreid.
“I need to track him right now.”
“Track?”
“With the Finn Bank situation lately, I think we need to start tracking in earnest.”
As Eleanor spoke, Pitty nodded as if she finally understood. Then, Pitty cautiously said, glancing at Eleanor’s eyes.
“But the courthouse said that if we don’t come immediately, the evidence we provided will almost be discarded.”
Eleanor sighed. It was too good an opportunity to give up immediately…
Just then, Mackiv spoke.
“Do you perhaps need an assistant?”
Eleanor looked up in surprise, and he smiled broadly.
“If you need me, you can use me.”
Eleanor was momentarily tempted. But she couldn’t just go with Mackiv. It was a journey that would take nearly three days, and she didn’t know how good he was at this. Moreover, Eleanor was displeased by Mackiv getting involved in such matters.
It felt like her private life, concerning her husband’s affairs, was being exposed to a complete stranger.
“Ms. Eleanor, I think that’s the best option too?”
Pitty said at that moment. She looked at Eleanor as if that plan were the best.
“But this is…”
“If you’re uncomfortable, you don’t have to use me. I just thought you might need help.”
Mackiv looked at Eleanor with a dejected expression. His eyes seemed innocent and harmless, but…
Eleanor felt uneasy. For some reason, Mackiv made her uncomfortable.
Suddenly, the tracker began to vibrate. Eleanor was startled and looked down. The red light on the tracker was fading.
After all the effort of giving Dreid an early anniversary gift, was it okay to let it go so futilely?
But she had to go alone with Mackiv. Eleanor looked at Mackiv. He was looking at her with shining eyes, as if waiting for her word.
Really, alone with Mackiv?
But if she gave up this opportunity now that would also be a loss. This might be a chance that would never come again. It was unsettling, but she had no choice. If anyone was to blame, it was all Dreid’s fault.
If he hadn’t hidden things like this in the first place, Eleanor wouldn’t have even considered going with a stranger.
Finally, Eleanor opened her mouth.
“Alright, let’s go together.”
Eleanor said to Mackiv and started packing her things. From the listening devices to various small items, there were quite a few. But they weren’t bulky, so they weren’t inconvenient to carry.
“Shall I help you?”
As Eleanor packed her bag, Mackiv approached. Eleanor shook her head.
“I’m fine. By the way, it’s a three-day trip, are you sure it’s okay?”
“Yes, it’s even more enjoyable because it’s three days.”
“Is there anything else you need to pack?”
When Eleanor spoke, Mackiv held up some clothes. Each time, a cheerful rustling sound could be heard.
“As you can see, I always pack what I need in these clothes. I can manage for a week.”
Indeed, Mackiv was a magic item door-to-door salesman. Eleanor slowly nodded and continued packing.
She was almost done packing. Mackiv, looking excited, walked straight to the door.
“Ms. Eleanor, I’ll wait outside!”
He looked thrilled, as if he were going on a trip. Eleanor wondered if this was really the right thing to do, but then she dismissed the thought. It didn’t seem like the time to be picky.
Outside, a carriage was already waiting. It was a carriage Eleanor had called in advance. It was suitable for such tasks, and the coachman, who roughly understood Eleanor’s work, had been working with her for a long time.
“Please get in.”
When Eleanor spoke, Mackiv got inside. Eleanor also told the coachman the destination and got into the carriage.
Mackiv looked around the inside of the carriage with curious, interested eyes. Everything he saw seemed fascinating.
“Ms. Eleanor, do you travel like this often?”
Mackiv said, still scanning the carriage ceiling.
“Sometimes.”
Eleanor looked at Mackiv, then turned her head towards the carriage window.
“Where are we going now?”
“We’re going to Delfos.”
“Delfos? The place with the Crown Prince’s villa?”
“Yes.”
“That sounds fun.”
Mackiv said with a bright smile. Eleanor thought it was time to be serious.
“However, we are not going on a trip, we are going to track someone. This is work, not play.”
As Eleanor cautioned him, Mackiv nodded obediently and smiled. Each time, Eleanor felt a slight headache. So, she turned her head away.
But Mackiv called Eleanor.
“Ms. Eleanor.”
“Yes.”
“The magic item…”
“I’m not buying.”
Mackiv suddenly laughed. Eleanor didn’t understand why he was laughing.
“Why are you laughing?”
“Ah, I was just going to say I’ll stop asking if you’ll buy a magic item now.”
Eleanor felt a bit embarrassed and turned her head. Then she took out the tracker and looked at it. Fortunately, Dreid must have left the Finn Bank around the same time, so they were at a manageable distance.
“By the way, who is the person you’re tracking now?”
When Mackiv mentioned Dreid, Eleanor felt a strange sensation. It felt like something had been discovered. It was absurd to hide anything from Mackiv in the first place.
“Someone I know.”
She said simply, not wanting to reveal all her private life to Mackiv.
“Isn’t it uncomfortable to track someone you know?”
“…It is uncomfortable.”
At that moment, Eleanor spoke the truth. She felt that tracking her husband like this might not be the right thing to do.
But turning back now was impossible. If she didn’t find out about him even after going this far, she felt she would never know.
It was just Eleanor’s guess. Dreid would never tell the truth, even if he died. Eleanor sighed unconsciously.
