My Gorgeous Wife Relies on Her Beauty to Commit Crimes - Chapter 20.4
Xie Jing abruptly broke free from Shen Jin’s embrace, throwing off the blankets to stare at her: “What did you say?!”
Sitting amidst the tangled bedding, her clothes disheveled and hair obscuring her sharp eyes, Shen Jin said solemnly: “Old Guan said they used to be very good friends.”
She emphasized the word “friends,” but Xie Jing felt insulted.
Her face turned ashen with anger, chest heaving as she struggled to calm herself. Finally, through gritted teeth, she said: “Of course. Didn’t you say our families were close?”
The Xie family had been betrayed by their closest friends. All those promises to help had been lies only her father had foolishly believed them. And her mother, who exhausted herself for the family, had ultimately sacrificed everything. How could the Shen family live so happily? Even their deaths wouldn’t be enough to quench the hatred in Xie Jing’s heart.
She’d once had a family, all destroyed by the Shens.
Xie Jing nearly lost control. Barefoot, she got out of bed to leave, but Shen Jin caught her hand.
“Where are you going?”
Xie Jing kept her back turned, teeth clenched: “Rest well. I won’t disturb you.”
Shen Jin watched her stubborn retreating figure before releasing her grip. Xie Jing fled without even her shoes.
Shen Jin sighed. The knots in Xie Jing’s heart wouldn’t be so easily undone especially since she hadn’t found the evidence yet.
Her gaze drifted to the doorway. What secrets did that blue notebook hold?
Returning to her room, Xie Jing stood frozen as a chill crept up from her bare feet. Hugging herself, she sank to the floor, nose stinging.
Memories of her parents brought tears she couldn’t suppress. Her eyes reddened, brimming with unshed tears as she bit down hard now wasn’t the time to cry.
Tears would reveal weakness. Against enemies, she needed sharp claws to pierce their hearts.
Her phone rang on the bed. Lips trembling, Xie Jing stood and walked over, swallowing every tear until none remained, only frighteningly red eyes.
“Who is it?” Her voice was icy when she answered.
“It’s me. Are you alright?” Shen Tuo’s concerned voice came through.
Xie Jing checked the number unknown.
Pursing her lips, she asked: “What’s wrong?”
Shen Tuo said anxiously, “Shen Jin really wants to sell me off this time! You said last time you had a way to help me? What’s your plan?”
Xie Jing’s voice was soft, “Do you really not want to marry Luo Hong that much? She likes you so much and would surely treat you well.”
“I don’t want to marry someone who controls me everywhere.” As if afraid Xie Jing might misunderstand him, Shen Tuo lowered his voice further, “Aren’t I resisting like this for our future? How about you? Has Shen Jin laid a hand on you recently?”
Xie Jing narrowed her eyes, “She offered me a large sum of money to leave you.”
Shen Tuo panicked, “No wonder she’s been protecting you! You’re not after her money, are you? How much did she offer? I can double it!”
Xie Jing laughed, “Of course not. Though I love money, I love you more.”
Her light tone drifted through the air, yet Shen Tuo found her words deeply comforting.
“Then what should we do?”
Xie Jing whispered, “On the 26th, Shen Jin has an appointment. I’ll arrange for someone to help move my luggage, pretending I’m leaving. When the door opens, you can slip out and go with him.”
Shen Tuo grew anxious again, “Shen Jin watches me so closely, how can I get out?”
Xie Jing chuckled softly, “He’ll help you. Just do as he says.”
Reassured, Shen Tuo checked his phone three more days until the 26th. He told Xie Jing, “Once I’m out, I’ll treat you right!”
Xie Jing smiled, “Good, I’ll be waiting.”
After hanging up, Xie Jing exhaled deeply and let out a cold laugh. The plan was in motion, there was no turning back now.
Just then, a knock sounded at the door. Xie Jing tensed, gripping her phone as she warily eyed the entrance. Shen Jin’s voice came from outside, “I brought your shoes.”
Xie Jing looked down at her feet, only then realizing she was barefoot.
Her toes curled slightly as she padded over to open the door. Shen Jin stood there holding her shoes.
Xie Jing pressed her lips together, “I thought you were tired.”
Shen Jin sighed, giving her a resigned look, “How could I sleep knowing someone was upset?”
Kneeling down, Shen Jin said, “Lift your foot.”
Xie Jing raised her pale foot, letting Shen Jin guide it into the slipper. Her sole was icy against Shen Jin’s warm palm. When Shen Jin reached for her other foot, Xie Jing slowly lifted it and felt Shen Jin’s grasp.
Looking up with a smile, Shen Jin placed Xie Jing’s ankle on her knee. Xie Jing stared in shock as Shen Jin kissed the top of her foot. Unsteady, she braced herself against the doorframe. Shen Jin rose, wrapping an arm around her waist to push her back into the room, closing the door behind them.
Shen Jin murmured, “I got hurt today, don’t I deserve compensation?”
Xie Jing’s gaze fell on the overlapping band-aids, the lingering chill in her heart making her shiver. She longed to curl up in someone’s arms for warmth. Grabbing Shen Jin’s collar, she leaned down when Shen Jin sought a kiss, Xie Jing bypassed her lips to press her mouth against the bandage on Shen Jin’s neck.
Shen Jin froze. Xie Jing rested her forehead against Shen Jin’s shoulder and whispered, “Shen Jin, I’m so cold.”
Embracing her, Shen Jin realized Xie Jing’s body temperature was alarmingly low.
All other thoughts receded like the tide. Shen Jin touched Xie Jing’s forehead, it felt like ice.
Frowning, Shen Jin said, “I’ll call a doctor.”
Xie Jing clutched her clothes, refusing to let go.
“No. Just hold me.”

Jiang Wan once transmigrated into an ancient book and experienced a heart-wrenching love story.
She fell in love with a demon, but the demon loved the male priest.
The two were locked in a love-hate relationship, irreconcilable as fire and water, while Jiang Wan was merely a bystander.
Later, the demon was on the verge of death and needed a human’s sincere heart to survive.
But no one loved her except Jiang Wan.
Jiang Wan didn’t want to die, but the priest’s staff pressed against her chest, forcing her to carve out that heart.
Can a person live without a heart?
Jiang Wan had her chest split open and her heart taken, her mind in a daze as she fell from a high tower.
As she fell, she faintly heard a heart-wrenching scream carried by the wind.
“Jiang Wan!!!”
Feng Yi was a Yi demon.
Legend said she was a demon who could bring favorable weather and peace.
But when she was born, the land was plagued by suffering, and demons ran rampant.
Even an auspicious being like her was mistaken for a monster, marked for extermination.
It was Jiang Wan who saved her.
But Jiang Wan was just an ordinary person, barely able to protect herself, how could she protect Feng Yi?
So, Feng Yi seduced the priest traveling with them.
The priest grew to despise her, yet couldn’t resist the allure of human affection. The two were locked in conflict, but Feng Yi never took her eyes off Jiang Wan.
Until Jiang Wan had her heart taken because of her, vanishing without a trace.
When Feng Yi awoke, she slashed the priest with a blade but could never find Jiang Wan again.
She entrenched herself in Yuncheng, scouring every inch of the land, driven to madness by longing.
Then, thunder rumbled over the barren wasteland.
Feng Yi knelt at Jiang Wan’s feet, begging her to love her.
Jiang Wan looked at her blankly. “Who are you?”
Legend says a witch without a heart feels neither love nor emotion.
