My Gorgeous Wife Relies on Her Beauty to Commit Crimes - Chapter 19.2
“Since it’s your first time visiting our headquarters,” Shen Jin said, “I’ll give you a tour.”
Xie Jing continued to eye her warily, prompting Shen Jin to tease, “Am I really that terrible? You’re looking at me like I bully you all the time.”
Xie Jing’s face flushed crimson.
After all, the topic of “bullying” had been thoroughly explored between them the night before.
She frowned inwardly but kept her expression neutral, following Shen Jin to see what she was up to. Just yesterday, Shen Jin had been suspicious of her motives, yet today she was openly showing her around the company? Could someone really be that fickle? Did a single night’s sleep change her so much?
Xie Jing didn’t quite believe it.
But if Shen Jin wanted to put on an act, Xie Jing could play along even better.
Shen Jin led her through several floors, though there wasn’t much to see, just the same meeting rooms, the same workstations. The only differences were how people personalized their spaces based on their passions and the varying atmospheres of different project teams. But one thing remained constant: the nervous tension in the air whenever the boss was around.
Xie Jing didn’t find it boring, though. It helped her understand Shen Corporation better. Still, she couldn’t figure out what Shen Jin was thinking. How could she dare to parade Xie Jing around so openly? Wasn’t she afraid people would find out about their relationship? Just earlier, she had seemed so tense.
Shen Jin turned and asked softly, “Are you hungry?”
Xie Jing blinked in surprise.
Shen Jin continued, “Is all of this boring for you?”
Xie Jing lowered her gaze and nodded.
Shen Jin chuckled quietly, reaching back to take her hand. A gasp sounded beside Xie Jing’s ear. She turned her head and saw the employees they had just passed staring at their intertwined fingers with wide, gossipy eyes.
Embarrassed, Xie Jing tried to pull away, but Shen Jin held on firmly. Flushing red, she let herself be led to the company cafeteria. Meanwhile, Shen Corporation’s work group chat exploded.
[Did you all see the boss showing a beauty around the company?!]
[And they held hands in public! Is this our future boss’s wife?!]
[The beauty looks so sweet! She even blushed when the boss held her hand!]
[Ahem.]
The secretary stepped in, reminding them this was a work group. The chat fell silent but the air buzzed with restless energy. Soon, a separate gossip group formed, dissecting every detail. After all, Shen Jin had publicly come out before, and this was the first time she’d brought a stunning woman into the office.
Xie Jing watched as Shen Jin studied the menu. The cafeteria staff held their breath until, after a long pause, Shen Jin turned and asked, “What would you like?”
Xie Jing leaned over to glance at the reasonably priced options and shook her head. “Anything is fine.”
It wasn’t quite lunchtime yet, and breakfast service had ended. Still, with the big boss personally present, the entire cafeteria staff stood at attention. Shen Jin placed the order and paid, leaving the staff gushing about how kind and beautiful their boss was.
They found a casual spot to sit. Noticing the faint shadows under Xie Jing’s eyes, Shen Jin went back to order two coffees. The tea bar operated 24/7, with no restrictions employees could grab a drink anytime.
A handful of people had been scattered around the cafeteria sipping coffee, but most who got wind of Shen Jin’s arrival slipped away early. Those who couldn’t avoid her came over to greet her. Shen Jin smiled in acknowledgment, while they stole curious glances at Xie Jing, making her increasingly uncomfortable.
She had come today to retrieve her phone. Instead, she’d ended up causing a stir across the entire Shen Corporation. In the short time they’d been sitting, no fewer than six groups of people had “coincidentally” stopped by for coffee.
“Is the coffee good?” Xie Jing hadn’t taken a sip yet, but Shen Jin was already drinking hers.
Shen Jin paused, set down her cup, swallowed the coffee in her mouth, and looked at Xie Jing. Xie Jing tilted her chin slightly toward the people behind Shen Jin: “Are the people in your group that free? This is already the sixth group coming to buy coffee.”
Shen Jin turned her head to look, causing a slight stir among the crowd peering in their direction. She gave a slight nod of acknowledgment before turning back. “Our group is quite relaxed about employees’ freedom during work hours. Work is already exhausting enough, they can grab drinks whenever they want.”
Xie Jing propped her chin on her hand and snorted coldly.
Shen Jin asked, “What? Do you want to join our group too? I could pull some strings for you.”
Xie Jing glanced at her, noticing the playful glint in Shen Jin’s eyes. She lowered her hand and feigned seriousness. “I’m afraid if I join, Boss Shen might neglect her work. If the Shen Group goes bankrupt because of me, people would call me a femme fatale.”
Shen Jin caught her hand and rubbed it gently on the table.
“Then why don’t you test that theory?”
Was Shen Jin probing her?
Xie Jing met Shen Jin’s gaze, those dark, fathomless eyes. Shen Jin blinked and smiled at her just as their food arrived. Shen Jin went to fetch it and urged Xie Jing to eat.
The dishes were all easy to digest. Shen Jin seemed to have noticed Xie Jing’s lack of appetite. Since returning to the country, Xie Jing had been eating very little. Her weight had dropped noticeably these days, her waistline shrinking.
Xie Jing only took a few bites before pushing the food aside, watching Shen Jin eat instead.
Shen Jin ate neatly and quickly, finishing her porridge in just a few mouthfuls. Xie Jing handed her a napkin, and Shen Jin thanked her.
After wiping her lips, Shen Jin took out her lipstick to reapply it. Xie Jing watched as Shen Jin then offered the lipstick to her. “Need a touch-up?”
Xie Jing stared at it for a moment before accepting.
Shen Jin’s natural lip color was deep, so she always used a dark red shade that amplified her commanding presence. But Xie Jing’s lips were naturally pale just a light press of color made them bloom vividly.
Shen Jin’s gaze lingered on Xie Jing’s lips, dark and intense. Xie Jing curved her lips into a smile and handed the lipstick back. “Pretty?”
“Very.” Shen Jin pocketed the lipstick. Xie Jing covered her mouth with a laugh. “Too bad you can’t kiss them.” Her voice was soft, carrying a teasing refusal. Shen Jin chuckled. “Weren’t you the one refusing earlier in the office?”
Xie Jing glared at her. Shen Jin stood, about to reach for her hand, when her phone rang. She answered with a quiet “Mm,” then looked at Xie Jing. “Your phone’s been found.”
Xie Jing froze. Shen Jin took her hand and pulled her up from the seat, smiling. “Now you can’t blame me anymore. It was in my room, stuck between the bed and the mattress.”
Xie Jing punched her lightly, only for Shen Jin to catch her hand again.
Xie Jing turned her head away with a small huff. “Still your fault.”
Shen Jin laughed helplessly. “Yes, yes, all my fault.”
Only then did Xie Jing turn back to look at her. Shen Jin held her hand, eyes forward as they walked. Xie Jing murmured, “Aunt Shen, Aunt Ju said I could stay. Is that true?”
Shen Jin lifted her chin slightly, gaze fixed ahead, and nodded.
Xie Jing said, “Thank you.”
“I have no family left in the country. If I had to leave the Shen household, I’d have nowhere to go but a hotel.”
Her tone was pitiful. “I thought you were going to kick me out.”
“After all, I’m not very likable.”
At this, Xie Jing’s expression dimmed. “Neither here nor abroad.”
Shen Jin pressed her lower lip tightly, her grip on Xie Jing’s hand slightly firmer as she murmured in a low voice, “From now on, you can consider this place your home.”
Xie Jing narrowed her eyes. “My home? Are you serious, sister?”
Shen Jin turned her head and nodded, her gaze complicated.
Xie Jing asked softly, “Then what does that make us?”
Shen Jin remained silent until they reached the elevator. She pressed the button and escorted Xie Jing down.
Inside the private executive elevator, with only the two of them, Shen Jin pulled Xie Jing in, cupped her chin to tilt it up, and kissed her.
“What do you think we are?” she asked.
Xie Jing wrapped her arms around Shen Jin’s neck and closed her eyes. “Lovers.”
