My Gorgeous Wife Relies on Her Beauty to Commit Crimes - Chapter 15
Yashe was a quiet bar where patrons sat in small groups, drinking casually. Xie Jing was slumped over a table, her cheeks flushed a vivid pink. Her eyes were half-lidded as she stared blankly at the artificial flower arrangement on the table, caught between drunkenness and wakefulness.
A female bartender clearing nearby tables glanced at her worriedly, then toward the entrance.
Before long, a tall, pale beauty walked in.
Dressed in a pencil skirt, white blouse, and black suit jacket her attire unmistakably professional her skin was so fair it seemed almost snow-white under the cold lighting. Yet her narrow, sharp eyes were full of life. She scanned the room, quickly spotting her target, and strode over. It was clear she had rushed here straight after work.
Shen Jin spotted Xie Jing and made her way toward her. The bartender nearby exhaled in relief. “Your friend drank too much she nearly fell over.”
Shen Jin grasped Xie Jing’s slender wrist and noticed how feverishly warm she was. She pressed a hand to Xie Jing’s forehead. Xie Jing mumbled, “Shen Jin?”
Not even calling her “big sister” anymore.
Shen Jin frowned, thanked the bartender, and helped Xie Jing up.
Xie Jing draped an arm over Shen Jin’s shoulder, her expression despondent. “You’re upset.”
Seeing Xie Jing like this, it was hard for Shen Jin to feel anything but displeasure.
Shen Jin remained silent. Xie Jing turned her head, trying to meet her gaze.
“Do you find me annoying? Always making you come pick me up. I didn’t drink that much, really. I could’ve gone back on my own.”
As she spoke, she struggled to stand on her own. The moment she lowered her arm, she staggered, nearly crashing into a table ahead until Shen Jin yanked her back into her arms.
Shen Jin’s voice was low. “How were you planning to get back like this?”
She gripped Xie Jing’s waist firmly and steered her out of the bar without another word.
Xie Jing nestled against her, breathing in Shen Jin’s familiar scent. “I’m fine,” she murmured.
Still stubborn, even with a fever.
Shen Jin bundled Xie Jing into the car and instructed the driver to head to the hospital.
On the way, Xie Jing, seemingly delirious from the fever, kept pressing closer to Shen Jin. Her hands and feet were scorching, and the moment they touched Shen Jin, it was like clinging to a heating pad.
Shen Jin caught her wandering hands, pressed Xie Jing’s head against her shoulder, and forced her to settle down.
Xie Jing began rambling again.
“Last night.”
Shen Jin glanced at the driver in the front seat and whispered to Xie Jing, “You’re sick. I’m taking you to the hospital.”
“Shen Jin.”
“Hm?”
Xie Jing nuzzled against Shen Jin’s chest, her eyes sparkling as she looked up at her.
“I like you so much. Could you love me, just a little?”
Shen Jin looked down at her silently. The light in Xie Jing’s eyes dimmed. She leaned against Shen Jin’s chest and closed her eyes, her thick lashes veiling her gaze. “You shouldn’t bother with me,” she mumbled.
Shen Jin understood the meaning behind her words. The hand gripping Xie Jing’s arm loosened. Xie Jing stopped moving, quietly resting against her.
At the hospital, Xie Jing was admitted once again.
She had been caught in the rain earlier, skipped meals, and then gone drinking at night. Her temperature had skyrocketed to 39°C. By the time they arrived, she was barely conscious. After three IV drips, her fever finally stabilized.
Seeing Xie Jing’s condition improve, Shen Jin extended her hospital stay, then picked up her coat to leave, only for Xie Jing to call out to her.
“Aunt Shen. I can leave.”
Shen Jin’s heart lurched. She turned and saw Xie Jing, pale and weak, propped against the headboard.
Xie Jing smiled at her and said softly, “I promised Shen Tuo I’d help him deal with you. Now that I’m leaving, I need to give him a reason.”
“I don’t want to be the villain here.”
“Aunt Shen is so capable, you must know what to do.”
The corners of Xie Jing’s lips curled with a mocking tone.
She continued, “Should I tell Shen Tuo it was me who revealed we slept together? Or would you prefer to tell him it was you who opposed our marriage?”
Shen Jin asked, “What do you want?”
Throughout the exchange, she remained utterly composed, completely unfazed by Xie Jing’s threats.
Xie Jing stared into her dark eyes but found no weakness. This woman, addressed as “Boss Shen” in the business world, wasn’t someone her petty schemes could shake.
She should have targeted Shen Tuo from the start instead of wasting time on Shen Jin.
Xie Jing lowered her gaze. “I’ve made myself clear. You just refuse to give me what I want, casting me aside like trash. Fine, I won’t beg anymore.”
Shen Jin’s lips tightened, an indescribable feeling in her chest. “I’ll give you a sum of money. Take it and do whatever you wish.”
Xie Jing looked up, her expression half-smiling, half-sneering. “Does Boss Shen always buy off women like this?”
Shen Jin remained silent.
The answer was obvious.
Xie Jing chuckled coldly. “Since it’s Boss Shen’s ‘kindness,’ I’ll accept it.” Her smile froze. “Don’t let me keep you.”
Shen Jin grabbed her coat and left. Outside, she stood still for a moment, her heart constricting whether from pain or regret, she couldn’t tell.
But the path was chosen, and she had to see it through.
Returning home, Shen Jin found Shen Tuo sprawled on the couch, yelling at his video game. The pent-up emotions in her chest surged. She snatched the rattan whip from the shoe rack and struck at him.
Shen Tuo howled, “Mom! What did I do this time? Why are you hitting me?!”
Shen Jin didn’t answer, seizing every chance to lash him.
Shen Tuo dodged frantically but still took a few strikes, his face contorted in pain.
Shen Jin finally lowered the whip and said to the housekeeper who had come to watch, “Call Li Er. Have him keep an eye on Shen Tuo, he’s not allowed to go anywhere these days.”
Shen Tuo gaped. “Mom! What’s going on?! Are you grounding me?!”
Shen Jin tossed the whip to the butler, straightened her collar, and said calmly, “At the end of the month, you’ll accompany me to propose marriage to the Luo family. Our families’ union is settled.”
“What?!” Shen Tuo froze, then bolted for the door, only to be blocked by bodyguard Li Er. As he was dragged back, he roared, “What about Xie Jing?! You agreed to our marriage!”
Shen Jin sneered. “I agreed. So where is she now? Don’t cling to hopeless delusions.”
“Take him away. No one releases him without my orders.”
Locked in his room, Shen Tuo pounded the door and cursed, “Shen Jin, you old tyrant! Selling out your son for gain! Hypocrite! Two-faced snake!”
The entire Shen Manor held its breath. Shen Jin sat on the living room sofa, smiling faintly. She glanced at the butler standing nearby. “No need to message Old Guan anymore. Go personally and tell him the matter is settled.”
Her tone was indifferent. “Just a woman. Not worth Old Guan’s concern.”
The butler’s heart skipped a beat, his head bowing lower.
“Boss, I—”
“No need to explain. If you leave, don’t come back. I don’t need traitors here.”
The butler slowly set down his things and walked out. Shen Jin dismissed the others.
“Go do whatever you need to do.”
She leaned back against the sofa, exhaustion evident in her eyes.
Surviving in the Shen family was difficult enough, let alone for an outsider like her.
Shen Jin went upstairs and stood before the safe for a long time before finally opening it. Inside were adoption papers and the Shen couple’s will regarding asset distribution.
She flipped through the documents, which clearly stated that the Shen couple had adopted Ye Jinyao from an orphanage in xx year. This meant everything from her name to everything she possessed now, was a lie.
