My Gorgeous Wife Relies on Her Beauty to Commit Crimes - Chapter 12
The wind outside rattled the window frame, making it groan. Shen Jin pressed her lips together and asked, “Why?”
Since Xie Jing appeared, there were too many things she didn’t understand.
Although the Xie family had fallen, given Xie Pan’s temperament, she wouldn’t have raised a daughter with such extreme tendencies. What exactly had happened to Xie Jing to change her so drastically?
Xie Jing leaned back, her palms pressing against the bed to support her body, her long legs stretching out. She said, “After I was sent abroad, I lived with another family.”
“At first, they treated me well, they provided food and a bed for me. But later, when the contact from back home stopped sending them money, they started despising me.”
“Since I was still a minor, attending school locally with a visa, they were legally obligated to care for me until I came of age. So, they took it out on me with beatings and insults. Eventually, I didn’t even have my own room anymore.”
Xie Jing straightened up, looking at Shen Jin with a faint, mocking smile. “From then on, I desperately wanted a home of my own.”
“You wouldn’t understand that feeling, would you, sister?”
Shen Jin remained silent.
Xie Jing lowered her eyes. “Then just think of me as someone who doesn’t value herself.”
“What’s important to me means nothing to you, right?”
Shen Jin was utterly speechless.
How could she not understand? For a child who had lost their home, the deepest longing was the warmth of building a family. Once, she had wanted that too until she was given the best parents and brother in the world.
Her voice was hoarse. “You’ll meet someone better.”
Xie Jing chuckled softly. “Someone better? When? Where is she?”
Her gaze struck Shen Jin’s heart like a hammer, filling her with an aching bitterness.
The once-beloved child had fallen into the mud, covered in filth.
Driven by an indescribable impulse, Shen Jin stepped forward, cupped Xie Jing’s face, and slowly traced her fingertips along her cheek. “You have your reasons, and I have mine for tearing you two apart.”
“And now, there’s one more reason.”
Tears welled in Xie Jing’s amber-like eyes as she cried out, “Sister, will you marry me? Give me a home, and I’ll break up with Shen Tuo.”
Shen Jin’s fingers slid down Xie Jing’s jaw, tilting her chin up as she leaned in. “I’m not a good person, Xie Jing.” Then she kissed her.
She was a villain, her rotten, decaying soul wrapped in a glamorous exterior. At her core, she was still that filthy self otherwise, she wouldn’t have indulged so recklessly that night, knowing full well it was Xie Jing teasing her. Because she was just that kind of rotten seed, though the Shen family had crafted a civilized illusion around her for others to see.
Shen Jin bit Xie Jing’s lip, kissing her deeply. Tears fell from Xie Jing’s eyes, landing between their lips. Shen Jin tasted the bitterness. Her leg pressed against Xie Jing, rubbing insistently. Xie Jing trembled, her hands gripping Shen Jin’s shoulders tightly, her helpless sobs swallowed by Shen Jin’s mouth.
As she pushed Xie Jing down onto the bed, Shen Jin nipped at her ear. “You can still back out now.”
Xie Jing wrapped her arms around Shen Jin’s neck her silent answer.
A fleeting indulgence later, Shen Jin awoke to the sound of rain pattering against the roof. Someone was nestled against her arm, clinging to her warmth like a pet she once owned, pressing close.
Their bare skin touched, the heat between them creating an illusion of intimacy.
Shen Jin raised her other hand to cover her eyes.
She despised her own indulgence, it made her feel worse than an animal, driven solely by base desires.
The distinction between humans and beasts lay in the ability to control oneself.
The sky was oppressively dark. Shen Jin calmly removed Xie Jing’s arm from her body and got out of bed. Last night, Shen Jin had been too rough, and Xie Jing was still asleep, merely whimpering twice when pushed away.
Shen Jin picked up the clothes from the floor and draped them over her shoulders. Unable to resist, she took a pack of cigarettes from the bedside drawer, sat on the bed, and lit one.
Xie Jing woke up coughing from the smoke. She sat up and leaned closer to Shen Jin, resting her head quietly on Shen Jin’s shoulder.
Shen Jin glanced at her sideways before silently finishing the entire cigarette.
After stubbing it out, Shen Jin said hoarsely, “You need to leave Zhuoyang City.”
Xie Jing had thought Shen Jin had tacitly allowed her closeness after all, last time it had been her who initiated, but this time it was Shen Jin. She had even believed her efforts these past days hadn’t been in vain, that she had begun to find a place in Shen Jin’s heart. Never did she expect the first words she’d hear upon waking would be an order to leave.
Xie Jing laughed in anger.
She bit down hard on Shen Jin’s shoulder and refused to let go. Shen Jin shuddered but didn’t struggle. Gradually, sensing no resistance, Xie Jing huffed and released her, then feigned concern as she pulled aside Shen Jin’s clothes. “Let me see if it’s red.”
Inwardly, Xie Jing thought viciously, “Good if it is.”
Pulling the fabric aside, she saw a perfect circular bite mark on Shen Jin’s shoulder and grinned.
Shen Jin stood up, adjusting her clothes, and watched Xie Jing sitting on the bed, quietly giggling to herself. There was nothing she could do about her.
Shen Jin said, “I’ll give you some money. Leave Zhuoyang City. You can settle down somewhere else.”
Xie Jing’s expression turned cold. Without even looking at Shen Jin, she got out of bed, picked up her clothes from the floor, and dressed, pulling her dark hair free from the collar. She said icily, “It’s not like you’re my only option.”
With a haughty stride, she brushed past Shen Jin, flung the door open, then slammed it shut with a deafening crash.
Shen Jin stood inside the room, staring at the door in prolonged silence.
…
Xie Jing encountered the housekeeper on her way downstairs. The housekeeper looked at her in surprise. “You’re up so early, Miss Xie?”
Xie Jing smiled faintly. “I realized I left something upstairs. I’m going back to get it.”
The housekeeper nodded, though she noticed Xie Jing wasn’t carrying anything.
Xie Jing gave her a polite nod and returned to her room. After showering and freshening up, she went to knock on Shen Tuo’s door.
Shen Tuo had been sleeping soundly, but once awakened, he groaned incessantly.
The bodyguards had been too rough yesterday every inch of his body ached.
He shouted at the door, “I’m still injured! What’s all the racket about?”
“It’s me,” Xie Jing said from outside, arms crossed. “I came to check on you.”
Shen Tuo winced as he opened the door. Seeing Xie Jing, he grumbled, “What? Here to laugh at me? My mom beat me up for you, bet you’re secretly thrilled, huh?”
Xie Jing wore a look of concern. “How could I? Where are you hurt? Is it serious?”
Shen Tuo eyed her suspiciously, but finding no trace of mockery on her face, he relaxed. “It’s nothing. Just minor injuries.”
Xie Jing exhaled in relief. “That’s good.”
She hesitated and said to Shen Tuo, “I was sick yesterday and thought it over carefully in the hospital. I admit I was wrong too, but you know my principles. If we get married, wouldn’t everything fall into place naturally? Shen Tuo, do you truly want to marry me? Not as a joke, and not just to avoid someone else.”
Shen Tuo was startled by the seriousness on Xie Jing’s face. He paused awkwardly before forcing a laugh. “Of course, I mean it. You know how I feel about you.”
Xie Jing lowered her gaze. Hearing footsteps stop behind her, she smiled and said to Shen Tuo, “Then let’s go register today.”
Shen Jin, standing behind Xie Jing, darkened his expression.
