My Gorgeous Neighbor Is Cooking Every Day - Chapter 22
Chapter 22
“We are looking for someone named Dong Yiyu. Have you heard that name?” Xia Xingye asked directly.
Yin Nianyun shook her head innocently and said: “I haven’t heard that name. Is she from our school?”
Xia Xingye was uncertain: “We don’t know if she’s from your school, that’s why we’re asking you.”
Yin Nianyun blinked and asked again: “Do you know which year she belongs to?”
Xia Xingye looked at Jiang Yingyue, who was also looking at her. They both looked down at Jiang Yingyue’s pocket, and Ren Ruofang in the bottle quietly muttered: “I don’t know either.”
“How can you not know?” Xia Xingye asked suspiciously, “Since you were childhood friends, you should be around the same age. Don’t you remember what grade she was in?”
“But I don’t know if she was held back or skipped a grade after I moved away. Aren’t those things important?”
“Why do you always have so many strange ideas?” Xia Xingye said powerlessly, “Just tell us what grade she should normally be in now, and as for whether we can find her, the same applies: we will do the finding.”
“Okay,” Ren Ruofang said somewhat reluctantly, “Normally, she should be a junior now.”
Xia Xingye then looked at Yin Nianyun: “A junior student.”
While Xia Xingye was talking to Ren Ruofang, Yin Nianyun was also listening. She heard what Ren Ruofang said and thought for a moment: “There are no junior students with that name now.”
“Are you sure there’s no one with that name?” Xia Xingye stared at her.
Yin Nianyun felt a little nervous from being stared at. She nodded repeatedly and said seriously: “I’m telling the truth. I know everyone who has entered this school since I died. There is definitely no such person.”
She looked pitifully at Jiang Yingyue’s pocket and said: “Who are you, sister? Why are you trying to harm me? I haven’t done anything bad in this school. I just like to audit classes. It’s not a capital offense.” She started shedding tears as she spoke.
Xia Xingye said helplessly: “We didn’t mean to doubt you, we just want you to think again. After all, there are so many students in this school.”
Yin Nianyun quickly said: “No matter how many students there are, they haven’t been here as long as I have.”
Jiang Yingyue said thoughtfully: “Since she’s not here, we’ll come back tomorrow.”
“You’re coming back tomorrow too?” Yin Nianyun looked at the two of them. “Are you two helping her find someone? Why are you coming in the middle of the night?”
She suspected that Xia Xingye and Jiang Yingyue had bad intentions, but Jiang Yingyue had just given her something to eat, which made her hesitate about whether Jiang Yingyue was a bad person.
“We are not students at this school, and we don’t know anyone here. If we wanted to enter, would the security guard let us in?”
The school Xia Xingye attended didn’t allow entry if you didn’t know a member of the school, not even with registration. The school had a responsibility for the safety of its students and didn’t dare to let people in casually. She took it for granted that all schools were the same.
“But aren’t you looking for someone?” Yin Nianyun said, puzzled, “Just say you’re looking for her but don’t know her grade. If she really exists, the school will help you find her.”
Xia Xingye’s eyes widened in realization. She looked at Jiang Yingyue, who was silent for a while before saying: “I haven’t been to university. I don’t know about these rules and regulations.”
“I didn’t think it through.” Xia Xingye slapped her head. It was excusable that Jiang Yingyue hadn’t been to university, but even though she wasn’t a student at this school, she was a university student. Asking the school to help check for a person didn’t require obtaining private information, just asking if the person existed. The school had no reason to refuse.
Xia Xingye looked back at the wall: “We’ll go back first and come to school tomorrow.”
Jiang Yingyue nodded, and the two climbed over the wall and left. Yin Nianyun watched them leave and muttered after a long time: “How strange.” She turned to continue looking for something fun.
As a ghost in the school, she was very interested in everything about the school. Although many courses were the same, different teachers taught differently. Moreover, their school often had some unique students, and she could listen to their insights.
What was the use of a ghost learning so much? Yin Nianyun didn’t know. She only knew she wanted to learn.
To get to the school early tomorrow morning, Xia Xingye and Jiang Yingyue decided not to go back home. They initially planned to find a hotel, but Xia Xingye wasn’t very keen on staying in a hotel, so she asked Jiang Yingyue: “How about we find the sauna shop owners?”
Jiang Yingyue was puzzled. Xia Xingye said happily: “I just feel like those two owners are good people. Maybe they’ll be happy to let us stay.”
The word “stay” was used very subtly. Jiang Yingyue didn’t object. Whatever Xia Xingye wanted to do, as long as it didn’t conflict with her own opinion, she was happy to support it.
When they returned to the sauna shop, Feng Tinglan was just about to come out. Seeing Xia Xingye, she immediately turned around, went back inside, and slammed the door shut.
Xia Xingye quickly walked up and knocked on the door: “Owner, please let us stay here for a night. We really have nowhere else to go.”
Feng Tinglan’s voice came out coldly from inside the shop: “There are many apartments and hotels nearby. Go stay in those places.”
“But I prefer your place, Owner.”
Xia Xingye wanted to say more, but Feng Tinglan’s voice was too cold. She refused mercilessly: “Even if you kneel down and beg me, I won’t let you in.”
Xia Xingye’s request seemed utterly unreasonable to outsiders. There was only one person whose requests Feng Tinglan would agree to unconditionally, but unfortunately, that person wasn’t Xia Xingye. Just as she was thinking this, the voice of the person she was thinking of came from outside.
“What are you two doing here?”
Xia Xingye turned around in surprise to see Liu Xuantong. She then looked at the tightly closed door and asked: “Are you here to see your partner, Owner?”
Liu Xuantong nodded. She was about to say something when the sauna shop door suddenly opened. Feng Tinglan looked at Liu Xuantong and said: “You introduced weird people to my place again.”
“Why do you say that about me?” Liu Xuantong said while stepping forward and hugging Feng Tinglan’s arm, “I’m just bringing you customers, aren’t I? I wouldn’t introduce people who look difficult to deal with here. They didn’t cause you any trouble, did they?”
Liu Xuantong could tell that Xia Xingye was more lively and Jiang Yingyue was more composed. With both of them here, even if Xia Xingye wanted to cause trouble, Jiang Yingyue would stop her, so she felt safe introducing them.
Feng Tinglan looked at Liu Xuantong in silence. Liu Xuantong suddenly felt uncertain and asked: “What did they do?”
“Ask them.” Feng Tinglan didn’t answer the question but lifted her chin, indicating for Liu Xuantong to ask Xia Xingye.
Xia Xingye smiled and said: “The two owners are truly a match made in heaven. I’ve never seen such a well-matched couple.”
Liu Xuantong blushed a little from the compliment, but Xia Xingye immediately continued: “We want to stay here for a night.”
Liu Xuantong’s smile froze on her face. She opened her mouth in disbelief and asked: “Did you say you want to stay in a sauna shop?”
Xia Xingye didn’t think there was anything wrong with it and said seriously: “I remember there were some rooms here when I came in. Those rooms should be habitable, right?”
“They can be,” Liu Xuantong still found it a bit strange, “But don’t you find it odd to just come here and ask to stay? There are plenty of apartments nearby.”
“There are apartments,” Xia Xingye said with some concern, “But I’m not used to them, and how do I know if those apartments have surveillance cameras or anything like that?”
Liu Xuantong understood, nodding to show she understood. However, Feng Tinglan countered Xia Xingye: “Aren’t you worried that my place also has surveillance?”
Xia Xingye gave a knowing smile: “No, you two wouldn’t do such a thing.”
“If it’s not possible, we’ll go somewhere else.” Jiang Yingyue finally interjected. She didn’t mind Xia Xingye wanting to stay here, but it was clear that Feng Tinglan didn’t want them to stay.
Xia Xingye was a little disappointed. Just as she was about to turn and leave, she heard Liu Xuantong say: “Wait a moment,” and then she turned to Feng Tinglan and said, “Since they want to stay, let them stay tonight. Aren’t there rooms available for rent?”
Feng Tinglan said helplessly: “You’re just going to casually let strangers stay here?”
“If there’s any problem, I’ll take responsibility.”
Feng Tinglan just gave her a deep look and didn’t correct her. Even if something happened, she wouldn’t let Liu Xuantong bear the responsibility alone. She looked at Xia Xingye and said: “I can let you stay here, but you are not allowed to have any improper thoughts.”
“Absolutely not. We’ll stay in the room all night and won’t step outside the room,” Xia Xingye quickly promised. She then pulled Jiang Yingyue and walked into the sauna shop as naturally as if it were her own home.
The sauna shop was very clean. As Xia Xingye and Jiang Yingyue entered the room, they smelled a faint fragrance, a clean scent left after incense.
Xia Xingye immediately lay down on the floor spread out like a starfish, letting out a long sigh of relief and saying happily: “There really are still many good people in this world.”
Jiang Yingyue sat down cross-legged beside her, looked down at Xia Xingye, and asked: “Were you that sure they would let you stay?”
Xia Xingye turned her head to look at Jiang Yingyue, grinned, and said: “I wasn’t sure, but if I didn’t ask, they wouldn’t invite me to stay. If I ask, there’s a chance, even if it’s only one percent.”
They looked at each other for a moment. Jiang Yingyue chuckled: “You are really interesting.”
“Am I?” Xia Xingye blinked and stared at Jiang Yingyue: “Since I’m interesting, then Sister, spend more time with me.”
“I don’t know what you young people like to do.”
Xia Xingye burst out laughing, propped herself up on her elbows to face Jiang Yingyue: “What do you mean ‘us young people’? Sister, you are not old.”
Jiang Yingyue seemed much more mature than her, but no matter what, her age was what it was, only a few years older than her. Why did she speak so pretentiously, as if there was a generation gap between them?
“I left school quite early,” Jiang Yingyue thought for a moment and explained seriously to Xia Xingye, “Although there are only a few years between graduating from high school and graduating from university and entering society, those few years are enough to turn people who once talked about everything into strangers.”
Xia Xingye didn’t mind: “That’s only a possibility. Does a difference in education mean you can’t talk anymore? In the time we’ve been together, does Sister feel uncomfortable talking to me?”
