My Gorgeous Neighbor Is Cooking Every Day - Chapter 19
Chapter 19
“It’s not that I forgot, it’s just been too long. The last time we met was fifteen years ago.”
Xia Xingye roughly calculated the time and asked: “Are you saying you were only five or six years old the last time you met?”
Ren Ruofang nodded and asked expectantly: “Can you find her? As long as I can see her, I’ll tell you whatever you want to know.”
Xia Xingye rubbed her head and looked at Jiang Yingyue: “Sister, can you find her childhood friend?”
Jiang Yingyue said: “I can try, but I can’t guarantee I’ll find her.”
Ren Ruofang quickly said: “Yes, yes, please try. See if you can help me find her.” She started using honorifics and was very polite, completely unlike the vicious appearance she had just a few minutes ago when she was trying to take Xia Xingye’s life.
Jiang Yingyue turned to leave, but Xia Xingye quickly stopped her: “Wait a minute, Sister, if you just leave like this, aren’t you worried she’ll cause trouble here?”
Jiang Yingyue explained: “She is indeed not the ghost who was causing trouble here.”
Xia Xingye asked confusedly: “Then why did you still want to catch her just now?”
Jiang Yingyue paused and replied: “I just wanted to ask her who was causing trouble behind the scenes. Is that not allowed?”
Xia Xingye sighed: “No, of course, that’s allowed, but I’m still a little worried. We can’t just leave her here. Even if you’re not worried about her causing trouble, what if the original trouble-making ghost threatens or harms her?”
Xia Xingye didn’t want to bring Ren Ruofang back after finding her friend, only to find Ren Ruofang was gone.
Jiang Yingyue thought it made sense, turned to Ren Ruofang, and said: “You come with us for now.”
Ren Ruofang certainly didn’t object. She was also afraid that something would happen if she stayed alone, so she happily floated behind the two.
After bringing Ren Ruofang back home, Xia Xingye pointed to her own room next door and said: “You sleep in there.”
As for herself, she would sleep in the same room as Jiang Yingyue.
To be safe, before going to bed, Jiang Yingyue put up several talismans in both rooms to prevent any trouble at night, so they could both sleep peacefully.
In the middle of the night, Xia Xingye seemed to hear some noise, but she didn’t pay attention to it. She opened her eyes for two seconds, closed them, turned over, hugged the person next to her, and continued to sleep.
Xia Xingye slept until dawn. When she woke up, Jiang Yingyue also woke up. Before Xia Xingye could say good morning, Jiang Yingyue got up and went to wash up.
Xia Xingye was puzzled but still got up, washed up, and followed Jiang Yingyue.
After Jiang Yingyue opened the door, she walked to the room next door, opened the door, glanced inside, and then looked at Xia Xingye, stopping her from coming over.
“Don’t come over.”
Xia Xingye asked in confusion: “What’s wrong? Did she run away?”
Jiang Yingyue said: “She didn’t run away, but you’d better not look now. It will ruin your mood.”
The more she said this, the more curious Xia Xingye was about what had happened. She leaned forward, craning her neck to look inside, and said: “I want to see.”
Jiang Yingyue asked seriously: “Are you sure?”
Xia Xingye nodded decisively: “I’m sure.”
Since Xia Xingye said so, Jiang Yingyue had no choice but to step aside and let her see what was going on inside.
As soon as Jiang Yingyue moved, Xia Xingye walked forward and saw the scene in the room. The room was a mess; everything had been knocked over, and the culprit, Ren Ruofang, was standing innocently in the middle of the living room, looking at them.
Ren Ruofang quickly reacted and waved her hands: “I didn’t do it. It was suddenly in the middle of the night…”
She stopped suddenly, which was too deliberate to ignore.
Xia Xingye finished her sentence: “It was the ghost who was coercing you.”
Ren Ruofang timidly nodded without saying anything, but her reaction already told both of them that the other party genuinely wanted to silence her. Fortunately, they brought Ren Ruofang back yesterday, or they might not have found even Ren Ruofang’s soul today.
Xia Xingye looked at Jiang Yingyue and asked: “What should we do now?” She didn’t have any thoughts about the room being a mess; a mess was a mess, couldn’t they just hire someone to clean it up? Or she could use this opportunity to have Jiang Yingyue clean the room with her, and they could spend more time together.
Jiang Yingyue thought for a moment and said: “You stay here today, I’ll go out.”
Xia Xingye pouted and was about to say something, but Jiang Yingyue continued: “You can come find us in the evening, but you still have class during the day.”
Xia Xingye had no choice but to watch Jiang Yingyue leave with Ren Ruofang.
Halfway through class, Xia Xingye couldn’t help but raise her hand and tell the teacher: “Teacher, I have a stomachache.”
After getting the teacher’s nod, Xia Xingye told her roommate next to her: “Help me grab my books later. I’m not coming back.”
Without waiting for her roommates’ reaction, she pretended to have a stomachache and left the classroom. After leaving the classroom, she took out her phone and called Jiang Yingyue.
When the call connected, she heard Jiang Yingyue say: “You’re still in class. Why are you calling me now?”
Xia Xingye tried to lie: “I’ve already finished class.”
Jiang Yingyue said: “I have your class schedule.” Just one sentence blocked Xia Xingye’s words.
Xia Xingye: “…”
Xia Xingye cleared her throat and asked: “Can I ask, Sister, how you have my class schedule?”
Jiang Yingyue didn’t hide it and answered honestly: “Your Aunt gave it to me.”
Xia Xingye rubbed her head and sighed speechlessly. Her mother had given it to Jiang Yingyue, which meant her mother really liked Jiang Yingyue and might have even given her birth date to Jiang Yingyue.
If anyone else did this, Xia Xingye would definitely be angry, but since her mother did it, she accepted it calmly. After all, her mother wouldn’t harm her.
Xia Xingye whined pitifully: “I’ve already skipped class now. If I get caught going back, I’ll have my credits deducted, so I can’t go back to class now. Sister, I’ll come find you.”
Jiang Yingyue didn’t say anything on the other end, seemingly considering Xia Xingye’s words. Xia Xingye quickly continued: “This class isn’t very important today. Don’t you have the class schedule? Check it. These kinds of classes are all open-book exams.”
The school had many general education courses, many of which were open-book exams and didn’t have much professional relevance, which was why Xia Xingye could skip class with confidence.
After a while, Jiang Yingyue said: “Alright, wait for me at the school gate. I’ll come and get you.”
Xia Xingye was reluctant to hang up, so she deliberately started a conversation: “Sister, don’t hang up yet. What did you do today? Did you find Ren Ruofang’s friend?”
Jiang Yingyue didn’t realize Xia Xingye was asking because she didn’t want to hang up. She thought it was a genuine inquiry and answered normally: “Not yet. The scope is too broad. It’s not that easy to pinpoint a person.”
Xia Xingye smiled and offered herself: “Then you must take me with you today. My luck is always very good. Maybe I’ll find her just by turning around.”
Jiang Yingyue was amused by Xia Xingye’s words. Listening to Jiang Yingyue’s laughter, Xia Xingye felt delighted and quickly walked to the school gate, trying to keep the conversation going with Jiang Yingyue the whole way. Jiang Yingyue didn’t hang up.
After standing at the gate for a while, she saw a familiar figure in the distance. Xia Xingye held her phone in one hand and stretched the other out, waving to show Jiang Yingyue where she was.
Only when Jiang Yingyue walked up to her did Xia Xingye hang up the phone, hugging Jiang Yingyue and saying wistfully: “Sister, I thought you weren’t going to take me.”
Jiang Yingyue felt a little awkward. She tried to reach out and touch Xia Xingye’s head, explaining: “Studying is more important. You can watch me catch ghosts anytime.”
Xia Xingye played the good girl: “I know. I’m very obedient. I’m attending my classes properly, but unimportant classes are useless to attend. It’s better to follow you and gain experience.”
Xia Xingye kept calling her “Sister,” and it became more and more natural. Jiang Yingyue was initially a little uncomfortable hearing Xia Xingye call her that, but after hearing it many times, she felt that nothing was wrong with it, as if Xia Xingye should call her that.
Xia Xingye was visibly excited after seeing Jiang Yingyue. She wasn’t usually a talkative person, but she always had endless things to say when she was with Jiang Yingyue. While chatting, Xia Xingye saw a couple in front of them and instinctively blurted out: “Sister, do you have a partner?”
After asking, she froze for a moment and corrected herself: “You probably don’t, I’ve never seen anyone come looking for you, Sister.”
Xia Xingye added worriedly: “I’m not trying to pry into your privacy. I just asked casually. I didn’t mean to offend you.”
Jiang Yingyue clearly didn’t find Xia Xingye’s words offensive. She had no problem talking about anything. When asked if she had a partner, Jiang Yingyue shook her head and said: “No.”
Hearing Jiang Yingyue say no, Xia Xingye felt inexplicably happy.
Perhaps it was because if Jiang Yingyue didn’t have a partner, they could have more time to spend together.
As they were talking, they walked into the shade of a large tree. Ren Ruofang’s faint voice came from Jiang Yingyue: “You two should be mindful, I’m still here.”
Xia Xingye was startled. She looked up and down at Jiang Yingyue and asked in confusion: “Where is she hiding?”
Jiang Yingyue took out a small bottle from her pocket: “She’s inside here now. She can’t come out much during the day.”
Xia Xingye looked curiously at the bottle, completely ignoring Ren Ruofang’s words, and asked curiously: “What is it like inside?”
Ren Ruofang replied: “It’s nothing special, it’s all black around.”
Xia Xingye asked: “Can you hear us talking?”
Ren Ruofang replied: “Of course, I can. It’s not like I’m locked up. I chose to hide inside, so of course, I can hear you talking.”
Xia Xingye was silent for a moment, then looked up at Jiang Yingyue and asked: “Sister, can you make it so she can’t hear us talking?”
Ren Ruofang: “???”
Jiang Yingyue also looked at Xia Xingye in confusion.
Xia Xingye felt a little awkward. She simply didn’t want anyone else to hear her talking with Jiang Yingyue. It felt like their private space had been forcibly turned into a public space.
Of course, Xia Xingye wouldn’t say that directly. She vaguely hinted: “What if she overhears us discussing private matters, she might do something bad.”
