My Ex’s White Moonlight Omega Has a Crush on Me - Chapter 6
Standing dazedly outside the door for a moment, Chao Wan bit the inside of her lip, feeling somewhat lost.
Why had Ji Tanyue looked at her like that? She had clearly rejected the implication.
And just now, she had even heard the woman say, “See you later.”
She couldn’t shake the feeling that all her actions were being observed, making her deeply uncomfortable.
After returning to her room, Chao Wan pinched her fingertips, snapping out of her confusion, and changed out of her crumpled clothes.
…
Half an hour later.
Chao Wan stood in front of a certain room and gently knocked.
She was prepared to tell the director that she wanted to withdraw from the audition.
A voice from inside called, “Come in.”
Following the sound, Chao Wan pushed the door open and scanned the room, her eyes widening slightly.
The space had been tidied up neatly for the audition, with the director, screenwriter, and producers engaged in conversation.
And there the woman sat, on a woven rattan chair by the window, her pale fingers turning the pages of the script, causing the sandalwood beads on her wrist to sway subtly.
She tilted her head, quietly listening to the director’s words, occasionally nodding. Her dark, flowing dress had been neatly pressed, accentuating her slender waist.
Chao Wan’s cheeks flushed instantly.
She recalled the coolness of the fabric pressed against her cheek and the lingering fragrance of flowers.
An assistant noticed Chao Wan, recognized her as someone from Qin Siyu’s circle, and eagerly guided her over to where the director and Ji Tanyue were conversing.
Wanting to bring up her decision to withdraw from the audition, Chao Wan felt nervous, her fingers twisting the hem of her shirt as she tried to organize her thoughts.
But her mind went blank.
Ji Tanyue was here too.
Just half an hour ago, she had been in intimate contact with the woman because of that strange “scent-sniffing” task, and now they were about to discuss serious matters in this audition space.
No one around them knew about the ambiguity between them, only Chao Wan was aware of it.
This feeling was a bit like having a secret affair.
The dark hem of the dress remained prominent in her vision, and Chao Wan’s heart was in turmoil.
Why was Ji Tanyue still wearing this dress?
The director addressed Ji Tanyue as “Teacher Ji” and was explaining the development of the script.
The woman didn’t look up at Chao Wan, acting as if they were complete strangers, quietly flipping through the script and occasionally offering a few opinions.
Chao Wan lightly bit her lip.
“Xiao Chao, you’re here?” The director’s gaze fell on Chao Wan, a flicker of admiration in his eyes as he greeted her warmly and asked the assistant to bring a chair.
He had seen many people audition today, but this was the first time he had been so impressed.
Chao Wan’s eyes were clear, her skin fair and translucent, her features delicate yet striking, exuding an innate aura of ethereal aloofness.
The faint mole on the bridge of her nose was the perfect touch, adding a delicate yet refined quality.
The assistant brought a chair.
Chao Wan nodded to the assistant and politely said, “Thank you.”
Her voice was as pleasing as the clear sound of a spring flowing over stones.
The assistant was momentarily stunned, both by her appearance and her voice, taking a long time to snap out of it, her ears turning bright red.
Ji Tanyue set down the script, her gaze briefly resting on Chao Wan’s face before moving away, a gentle curve forming on her lips.
Chao Wan carefully sat down.
For some reason, her cheeks felt slightly warm, and the title “Teacher Ji” felt difficult to say aloud.
She recalled the scene from earlier, the woman breathing heavily, pinning her down on the bed, restraining her hands, and her heart raced chaotically.
Though an Omega, she had pretended to be an Alpha and bitten her. Outwardly gentle and composed, yet secretly hinting at wanting to keep her.
Especially when Chao Wan remembered how Ji Tanyue had effortlessly taken the Golden Qiong Award in her past life, and how Qin Siyu had used her as a substitute, she felt both wronged and wary.
This highly acclaimed triple-crown actress within the industry wasn’t as flawless as she appeared.
“Xiao Chao, the equipment isn’t ready yet. Your audition will likely be delayed a bit. Don’t worry,” the director said.
“Thank you, Director,” Chao Wan replied, her eyelashes lowered. “But…”
She no longer wanted to film this drama.
Because it was a role Qin Siyu had thrown her way.
Unpleasant memories from her past life surged once again in her heart.
Chao Wan’s fingertips turned white from how tightly she clenched them, not daring to look at the woman standing before her, whose gentle aura carried a subtle pressure.
She was afraid, afraid that if she caught another glimpse of Ji Tanyue’s stunning face, she would once again feel inferior and sink back into the self-loathing and jealousy that had plagued her in her previous life.
If Ji Tanyue was the pure moonlight, then she was nothing but a flickering fluorescent bulb in a rented apartment.
One bright, one dim, the contrast was stark.
…
After gathering her thoughts, Chao Wan retreated to a corner of the room and quietly informed the director of her decision to withdraw from the audition.
“Withdraw?” The director’s tone was filled with disbelief. “But President Qin…”
Chao Wan was Qin Siyu’s recommended choice, already pre-selected. If she didn’t pass the audition, he would have to provide an explanation. He couldn’t afford to be careless.
“You’ve waited so long. Why not reconsider?” the director urged.
Just then, his phone rang. He offered Chao Wan an apologetic smile and stepped away to take the call.
Chao Wan lowered her gaze, her heart calm, still resolved to decline.
If she couldn’t film Pillow Galaxy, she could always work as an extra at the film studio or help out at Fu Xi’s escape room.
In the distance, the director’s expression shifted as he spoke on the phone.
The woman’s voice on the other end was cold.
After hanging up with an ingratiating laugh, the director glanced in Chao Wan’s direction and whispered a few words to his assistant.
The assistant nodded, packed up the chair that had been brought for Chao Wan earlier, and gave her a worried look.
“Chao Wan,” the director said flatly from beside the table. “You don’t need to audition anymore. You can leave now.”
Chao Wan froze for a moment, her fingers secretly clutching the hem of her clothes.
She could sense the strange, almost mocking and indifferent looks from those around her.
Why…? Everything had been fine just moments ago.
Was it because of that phone call?
Someone didn’t want her to continue the audition.
Chao Wan silently lowered her head, her eyes stinging with unshed tears.
It was only to be expected.
She had sent Qin Siyu that “breakup” message. She should have anticipated this outcome.
But to have everything cut off so abruptly and easily, without even a single question…
In Qin Siyu’s heart, she wasn’t even worth a fraction of Ji Tanyue. She was someone who could be discarded without a second thought.
And rightly so, she was just a stand-in, after all.
Biting her lip, Chao Wan made a hasty, humiliated exit from the audition venue.
Withdrawing from the audition was what she had wanted in the first place.
Yet, for some reason, her heart ached.
…
Ji Tanyue watched Chao Wan leave, her smile fading as she placed the script back on the table.
The gentle warmth in her eyes dissipated, leaving only cool detachment.
“Ms. Ji, the audition is about to begin,” the director said, assuming she didn’t know Chao Wan. He casually explained, “That young lady from earlier withdrew voluntarily.”
Voluntarily.
A faint, almost imperceptible smirk tugged at Ji Tanyue’s lips, though her expression remained unchanged, concealing a trace of subtle mockery.
“Alright,” she replied.
Soon after, the first actor for the evening audition knocked on the door.
The girl was sweet and cute, and while her acting wasn’t particularly outstanding, it was passable.
The director was quite pleased and readily marked her as a candidate for further consideration.
“Director,” Ji Tanyue said, her expression neutral as she looked up from the viewfinder. “This one… doesn’t quite match the original setting for Cen Xinghe, does she?”
The director gave a vague grunt and hastily crossed the young girl’s name off the shortlist.
He didn’t dare defy the wishes of the production company’s financial backer. Moreover, the person standing before him was none other than Ji Tanyue, who had graciously lowered herself to attend.
The young girl left the room in tears, pushing the door open as she went.
The assistant called in two or three more people from the list, but without exception, by the time the list was exhausted, Ji Tanyue had rejected every one of them for various shortcomings.
The woman leaned back in the rattan chair, looking weary as she pressed her pale fingertips to her temples.
She stood up, draped the pure white wool coat handed to her by her assistant over her shoulders, turned on her phone, and glanced at the time.
“It’s getting late, and I have other arrangements afterward. My apologies, but let’s end the audition here for today.”
As she left, her voice was gentle, but her tone carried a hint of cold detachment as she glanced back at the group.
“Additionally, if the lead role in your production is only of this caliber, I believe the investment matter may require further discussion.”
After watching Ji Tanyue depart, the room fell into an immediate silence.
The staff exchanged uneasy glances, stealing looks at the director’s expression. They noticed his knuckles were clenched tightly, his face ashen.
After crossing off Chao Wan, not a single person had been kept, and now Ji Tanyue had brought up withdrawing the investment…
How were they supposed to film this drama?
Chao Wan stepped out of the hotel alone.
Though she hadn’t even auditioned, it was already quite late. The neon lights outside the window were dazzling, and the main road was bustling with traffic.
Late at night, the temperature had dropped further since dusk. A chilly breeze brushed against her thin cotton shirt, carrying a biting cold.
Chao Wan walked along the sidewalk, head lowered, her backpack slung over her shoulder.
Suddenly, her phone vibrated.
It was a call from Qin Siyu.
The more she thought about it, the sadder she felt, and the more hopeless everything seemed.
Chao Wan decided to cut the knot swiftly and make things clear with Qin Siyu that very day.
Sitting on a park bench, she answered the call and spoke calmly, “Let’s break up.”
It was only the calm she imagined. To an outsider, her voice was clearly trembling.
The woman’s voice on the other end of the line was laced with sarcasm, “Still not calmed down yet?”
“I am calm.”
“So, was letting me audition for Pillow Galaxy for my sake, or for someone else’s?”
Her tone was accusatory, but tears began to fall uncontrollably.
It couldn’t have been for her. After all, she was just a caged canary released for misbehaving.
A substitute for a lost love.
Chao Wan sniffled, her eyes reddening.
“Being disobedient again.” Qin Siyu seemed to have been struck by something, her voice turning icy.
“Call me again after you’ve thought it through.”
The call ended abruptly.
Chao Wan sat on the bench with her head buried in her hands for a long time, until she had cried herself out of energy. Only then did she force herself to stand up.
She pulled out her phone to check the time, it was almost 11 p.m.
Flustered, she wiped away her tears and opened a map app to find her way home.
