My Ex’s White Moonlight Omega Has a Crush on Me - Chapter 17
Chao Wan clutched her phone tightly, head bowed, her eyelashes trembling faintly.
As expected.
“Did you latch onto someone else right after leaving me?” The voice on the other end of the line was sharp and grating, muttering under its breath.
“And it’s Ji Tanyue again.”
Jing Shuran, sitting at the table, felt a pang of alarm and quickly tried to smooth things over. “President Qin, please don’t say that… The contract has already been signed.”
Contract?
Chao Wan’s mind went blank. She handed the phone back to her secretary and silently walked over to the table.
Sure enough, there lay a signed contract. The second party was Chao Wan, while the first party was a company controlled by Qin Siyu.
In the signature section, her name was written in a laughable scrawl, Jing Shuran had signed it on her behalf, without even bothering to inform her beforehand.
In her previous life, signing with a company controlled by her lover had been filled with sweetness, but now, Chao Wan felt as if she had fallen into an icy abyss.
Chao Yan, standing by the entrance, couldn’t stand it any longer and darkened his expression. “Signing the contract without permission is useless, Shuran. You need to ask for Xiao Wan’s opinion.”
Jing Shuran shot him an impatient glance, not even bothering to respond. Instead, she fussed over the secretary and the ongoing call with Qin Siyu.
She then urged Chao Wan, “Hurry up and come here.”
Chao Wan leaned on the table for support, her long hair obscuring the gloom in her eyes. Her shoulders trembled slightly.
She spoke softly, “I won’t sign.”
Jing Shuran was utterly taken aback.
In her memory, Chao Wan had always been obedient and compliant, never once defying her.
Her fingertips brushed against the contract on the table. Chao Wan lowered her gaze, feeling utterly exhausted at the thought of saying another word.
The stark black and white text on the contract blurred in her vision, twisting into menacing symbols.
Suddenly, two sharp tearing sounds echoed through the room.
The paper was ripped into several pieces.
“Miss Chao, you…” The secretary beside her was clearly caught off guard.
Chao Wan placed the torn contract back on the table, the words “Qin Corporation” and “Chao Wan” now separated into two halves.
“Aunt, I am not your puppet.” She ignored the secretary and locked eyes with Jing Shuran, even as her own eyes reddened slightly.
“I shouldn’t have been in the past, and I won’t be now or in the future.”
With that, she gave the middle-aged woman a steady look, turned without hesitation, and walked away.
The wind outside was cold, drying her tear-streaked face and stinging like a blade.
Having lived two lives, this was perhaps the most rebellious thing Chao Wan had ever done.
Yet, it felt bitterly ironic, having just escaped what she thought was the dangerous cage of Ji Tanyue, she was now being forced out by her so-called family.
Strangely, the home that should have been a warm haven offered her less comfort than the coat Ji Tanyue had draped over her shoulders.
Chao Wan exhaled into her palms, warming them slightly, then dialed Fu Xi’s number.
“I told you, you shouldn’t have stayed at home,” the other end sighed.
“Wait ten minutes. I’ll be right there.”
“Thank you,” Chao Wan murmured.
After hanging up, she should have felt some relief, but for some reason, Qin Siyu’s icy words kept echoing in her ears.
She said that Chao Wan had latched onto Ji Tanyue again.
Unconsciously, Chao Wan bit her lip.
Belatedly, a wave of grievance washed over her.
She hadn’t latched onto anyone, it was clearly, unmistakably Ji Tanyue who had first considered taking her under her wing.
Her own unattainable crush couldn’t keep her, and now she was blaming Chao Wan? It made no sense at all.
As she thought this, her heart tightened abruptly.
Qin Siyu also knew about her Omega identity. With her impulsive act of tearing up the contract, the woman was sure to spread the news far and wide.
Her earlier impulsiveness was just a reckless outburst; she had never considered the future consequences.
Even if she had thought about it, she probably wouldn’t have been able to control the outcome.
Starting over in this life, her impulsiveness had dragged the situation into an even worse abyss.
She really was still so useless.
Her eyes silently reddened.
Soon, headlights illuminated the space beside her.
Through the front windshield, Chao Wan caught sight of Fu Xi. Hastily wiping her eyes, she pretended nothing had happened and opened the passenger door.
But her eyes were too red, clearly impossible to hide.
“Tonight… I’m really sorry to trouble you,” she murmured, shrinking into her seat, her voice muffled. “I’m sorry.”
Fu Xi sighed, started the car, and drove toward her own residence.
“I saw the hot search earlier and wanted to tease you a bit, but why are you crying so hard?”
Hearing the words “hot search,” Chao Wan tilted her head slightly, a little curious.
“It’s nothing, just something trivial,” she replied, her voice still hoarse. “But, the hot search…?”
Fu Xi glanced at her and chuckled, “You really don’t know? Check it yourself, it’s probably still in the top five.”
Chao Wan pulled out her phone, navigated to the relevant page, and looked carefully.
Her heart raced.
Hot search number two: #Hengdian Ji Tanyue#
She clicked on it and, as expected, found photos of her meeting with Ji Tanyue taken from an extra’s perspective.
The lighting was dim when the photo was snapped, but it almost seemed to add a filter to the image. The moment Chao Wan turned around had been perfectly captured by a passerby.
In the picture, her skin was as pale as snow, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears, her lips slightly pursed, and her hair gently lifted as she turned, exuding an aura of cool elegance.
On the other side of the photo, Ji Tanyue wore a camel-colored trench coat, her demeanor noble and refined. Though most of her face was hidden behind a mask, her phoenix eyes curved slightly as she smiled softly.
Their gazes met, as if both held unspoken stories in their eyes.
A single glance that felt like an eternity.
The comments section was lively. Some speculated about why Ji Tanyue had come to the extras’ area, while others praised their looks.
Most, however, were guessing Chao Wan’s identity.
[This girl is such a soft-featured beauty, and that little mole on her nose bridge is totally my type, wuwu~]
[She looks so familiar… isn’t she the campus belle from a certain year at Jiangxi Drama Academy?]
[Chao Wan, right? That beautiful Alpha, her looks are truly unbeatable!]
[It feels like Ji Tanyue is really close with her.]
“Wanwan, so the friend you mentioned before was Ji Tanyue?” Fu Xi teased while driving, her tone playful. “Hmm, she really is a sugar mommy, isn’t she?”
Chao Wan wanted to refute her but felt she wasn’t entirely wrong, so she stayed silent.
They weren’t friends, yet their relationship was far from ordinary.
She pursed her lips quietly and continued scrolling.
Suddenly, a newly posted comment caught her eye.
[Am I seeing things, or did @JiTanyueStudio just like that marketing account’s Weibo post?]
Her heart raced abruptly.
Chao Wan froze for a moment. By the time she went back to check the hot search, #JiTanyueLikes had already jumped into the top five.
Although the like was quickly removed, it had already been noticed and screenshotted.
[Is Teacher Ji also prone to slipping while scrolling Weibo? Hahaha]
[I don’t care, I’m a sucker for good looks. Gorgeous extra × obsessive actress, I’m shipping it!]
Ji Tanyue’s long-time fans were emotional in the comments:
[Such a rare scandal! Even though we shouldn’t ship it, I have to clarify for those marketing accounts running wild, our Teacher Ji is definitely not into BO or OO relationships!]
Chao Wan’s lips curved into a faint smile, her eyelashes fluttering softly.
Only Ji Tanyue herself knew her secret, she was the refined type who secretly enjoyed forbidden romances.
But thinking it over carefully, her cheeks grew warm again.
Why would Ji Tanyue like that post? And after dinner, when she had already been escorted home late at night, would she still scroll through Weibo?
“What’s wrong?” Fu Xi tilted her head, giving Chao Wan a puzzled look. “Your face is so red.”
Chao Wan hurriedly turned off her screen, pressing the back of her hand to her cheek in an attempt to cool down.
“It’s nothing,” she whispered in reply.
