- My Exes Are All Over The Martial Arts World
- Chapter 5 - It’s Truly Grand to Be Doted on by a Wife
Wu Ming ceased her attack and gave a faint smile. “It’s been a long while; I was merely testing your martial arts.”
Wu Ming had not held back her strength, and He Song had nearly had his bones shattered by her. Hearing such an irresponsible remark, he stared at Wu Ming with a resentful gaze.
“As expected, things are different once you’ve struck it rich. You certainly carry an extraordinary air about you now.”
Wu Ming smiled but remained silent. The more she spoke, the more mistakes she might make; she only wanted to brush him off.
“By the way, on your big day, why didn’t you invite the Divine Physician? It was he who passed the art of disguise to you. He deserves much of the credit for the fortune you enjoy today!”
The art of disguise?
Wu Ming regretted letting Xi Ni die so easily. If she had interrogated him before killing him, she wouldn’t have missed out on such a treasure.
If she possessed the art of disguise, wouldn’t it be effortless to switch identities? Traveling the martial world would be incredibly convenient!
“The Divine Physician is burdened with many affairs. How could such a great figure have the time to attend my wedding?”
“True. Only the current Emperor can invite the Divine Physician to leave his mountain. Who are we to him?”
Wu Ming keenly sensed the bitterness in his tone. Was he jealous of the relationship between Xi Ni and the Divine Physician?
He clearly knew the Divine Physician possessed such a good thing, and he clearly envied the Divine Physician’s power—so why didn’t he take the initiative to seek him out?
Was it that he didn’t want to, or was it that he couldn’t?
“I must rush to the street parade; I’m afraid I don’t have time to reminisce with you. Why don’t you leave your address, and I will visit you another day?”
“Fine!” He Song readily gave the name of the inn where he was staying, holding nothing back from Wu Ming.
Wu Ming patted his shoulder with satisfaction. “Good brother, I’ll come find you as soon as I’m finished…” To send you on your way.
Since he knew Xi Ni had obtained the art of disguise through the Divine Physician, their relationship couldn’t be too bad. Once he settled down to think, he would easily discover Wu Ming’s irregularities.
Wu Ming did not want anyone to discover she had killed Xi Ni, as that would bring endless trouble. Therefore, it was best if he died as quietly as Xi Ni had.
He Song squeezed his shoulder. Wu Ming’s pat had been light, but because they had just fought, that gentle pat was actually quite painful for him.
He stared gloomily at Wu Ming’s departing back.
“Hmph, so you just fashioned a face that’s neither man nor woman. Without that face, would the eldest Miss of the Hou family even look at you? Sooner or later, I will expose your true colors!”
Wu Ming paraded with great fanfare. The Hou family was exceedingly wealthy; flower petals and auspicious coins scattered across the streets, and the faces of the onlookers were all squeezed with smiles.
The lively atmosphere allowed Wu Ming to briefly forget her troubles. Having reached this stage, there was no difference between a fake marriage and a real one; today was her wedding day.
On a big day like this, one should naturally be happy.
After circling back from the Hou residence, Wu Ming returned to receive Hou Danxue.
Hou Danxue was in full ceremonial dress. Looking at her, Wu Ming felt a sense of novelty.
Hou Danxue usually preferred plain colors, appearing like pure snow, but now the crimson garments made her look like rouge-colored snow.
Wu Ming picked up Hou Danxue and carried her into the bridal sedan.
Her lips suddenly pressed against the other’s ear. Hou Danxue thought she was going to say something sweet, but Wu Ming only asked, “Do you know of the Divine Physician?”
“The Divine Physician? I’ve only heard that in earlier years, the Emperor invited him to extend his life.”
“That’s the man! Is there any other information?”
Wu Ming wanted to ask more, but music began to play nearby, signaling the procession was moving again. Wu Ming had no choice but to retreat from the sedan.
She rode around the Hou residence once more and then returned.
The crowd had grown significantly, with guests from all over the world gathered there.
Wu Ming secretly heightened her vigilance, fearing she might encounter another of Xi Ni’s acquaintances, but fortunately, she did not.
Surrounded by people watching them, she couldn’t continue the discussion about the Divine Physician with Hou Danxue, so she followed the wedding protocols properly.
Afterward, Hou Danxue returned to the bridal chamber, but Wu Ming could not; she was the matrilocal son-in-law and had to stay to accompany the guests in drinking.
To end it all quickly, Wu Ming took the wine jug and toasted everyone directly.
Wasn’t it just drinking? She was naturally a heavy drinker and wouldn’t get drunk no matter how much she consumed.
Her outward identity was that of a martial artist; being bold and hearty wouldn’t break her character at all.
Wu Ming’s behavior provoked the competitive spirit of the crowd. They began to drink frantically, and soon a heap of people had collapsed drunk. The feast finally drew to a close.
With a smile, Wu Ming entered the inner courtyard under everyone’s gaze. No one would suspect her intentions.
A groom eager for his wedding night—how perfectly normal.
Wu Ming entered Hou Danxue’s room and lifted her veil.
“Back so soon?”
“Yes. I have to go kill someone in a moment; I’m in a hurry.”
Hou Danxue’s expression fractured for a moment. “Kill someone? You’re going to kill someone on our wedding day?”
“The wedding night is the perfect alibi.”
“Who are you going to kill?”
“There is an old acquaintance of Xi Ni’s among the guests. He will likely guess that I am an imposter.”
“So what if you’re an imposter? As long as the benefits provided are enough, the fake can become real. You needn’t worry about this.”
Wu Ming, however, could not be so relaxed. Blood feuds involving life and death weren’t so easily canceled out.
Hou Danxue only knew she was posing as Xi Ni; she didn’t know she had killed Xi Ni. This matter was far more serious than she imagined.
“That man looks like a person of ill intent. If he leaks this before we’ve settled down, won’t you be in trouble?”
Hou Danxue watched as Wu Ming changed her wedding robes for black clothes. She was serious.
“Wait. Since you want to kill him without leaving a trace, using force will always leave marks. Better to use poison.”
Hou Danxue stood up and dragged a small box from under the bed.
Wu Ming watched as she opened the box, which was lined with medicinal vials of various sizes.
Without any hesitation, she took out a vial and handed it to Wu Ming. “The effect of this poison will make it look as if he died of intoxication.”
Truly… a family tradition.
Wu Ming felt a chill rise from her heart. Her seemingly innocent wife was actually a master of poisons!
Did she really need saving? Was this alliance even necessary?
Could it be… she valued Wu Ming herself more? Had she fallen in love at first sight?
The corners of Wu Ming’s mouth couldn’t help but curl up. She coughed twice, trying to suppress her smile.
“You won’t end up poisoning yourself like your mother did, will you? I don’t want a wife who dies young.”
“Rest assured! I won’t!”
“Come back soon,” Hou Danxue’s voice sounded muffled.
Wu Ming took the vial, completely oblivious to any hidden meaning, and leaped out the window. Hou Danxue watched her figure melt into the night.
She gripped her red wedding robes tightly. “Our wedding night… you just wait. I will certainly make you pay this back!”
Wu Ming easily found the inn He Song had mentioned and hid on the roof beams, waiting for him to return.
He Song pushed open the door, swaying with drunkenness. As soon as he entered, Wu Ming descended from above and shut the door.
“Xi Ni? Why do you have time to find me now?”
“You envy me.”
“Yes! Haha! I do envy you!”
Their subtle dynamic was pierced by Wu Ming, and the emotions He Song had suppressed in his heart erupted completely.
“Why? We were all the same originally, but you went to the Valley of Falling Leaves once and gained a massive fortune! Now, relying on this fake face, you’ve become the son-in-law of the incredibly wealthy Hou family!”
“Since you’re so jealous, why didn’t you go to the Valley of Falling Leaves?”
“Hah! So many people go there seeking medical help, yet in the end, very few walk out alive. If you had told me the secret of the valley, I would have gone long ago! With our friendship, you weren’t even willing to tell me that secret!”
It seemed he only knew this much.
Wu Ming said nothing. She grabbed his chin and poured the entire vial of poison given by Hou Danxue down his throat.
He twitched on the ground for a moment, then went still.
This poison was truly effective.
Wu Ming circled the corpse; it really did look like a natural occurrence. She didn’t have to dispose of the body.
Otherwise, if she had snapped his neck and the body was found, it would be an obvious murder, and she would have had to deal with the remains.
It’s truly grand to be doted on by a wife.
With the matter easily resolved, Wu Ming returned to the room in a pleasant mood. She grabbed Hou Danxue in an embrace, but was pushed away.
“You smell of blood. I don’t want you holding me!”
??
Where was she stained with blood? Thanks to the poison Hou Danxue provided, the man hadn’t shed a single drop of blood when he died!
“Let’s wash up together…”
For the sake of Wu Ming’s alibi, Hou Danxue hadn’t dared to let anyone in; there was no water in the bath for her to use.
“No, it’s not the time to call for water yet!”
The curtains on her bed were semi-transparent. If the maids or old servants passed by, they would definitely see what was happening on the bed.
“I’ll go change into a single layer of inner clothing.”
Hou Danxue bit her lip. Wu Ming had changed her clothes, but she herself was still neatly dressed; it would look very strange.
Those servants… would surely think she was very fierce, a weak and pitiful girl toyed with by a martial arts expert.
While changing, Wu Ming’s gaze caught the bed. “Why is there a white cloth strip spread over the red sheets? It looks so unlucky!”
“That is for collecting the ‘fallen red’ (virginity blood).”
“Fallen red?”
“Yes. When the time comes, use your finger to help me.”
Wu Ming’s face flushed red; she suddenly felt a bit hot.
Fingers?
She looked at her own hands.
She practiced palm techniques; her hands were her weapons of attack.
Now, to let those weapons perform such a tender task—would it really not hurt Hou Danxue?
“If you’re willing, using yours isn’t out of the question either. Anyway, it all looks the same.”
Hou Danxue suddenly leaned in. Wu Ming’s robe was draped loosely, and Hou Danxue’s hand reached right in.
“Hmph, so now you don’t mind that I just killed someone…”
“You have the nerve to say that. Leaving me on our wedding night—I still have to settle that score with you! Tell me, how are you going to compensate me?”
“I will do whatever Miss asks of me. Tonight, I will certainly ensure Miss is satisfied. How about that?”
“You promised that yourself!”
Hou Danxue’s smile was a bit too brilliant, making Wu Ming feel slightly uneasy.
She suppressed the unease in her heart.
The Miss was just a frail girl who only knew how to use poison. She herself was a martial artist with a strong physique—how much could the girl possibly toss her around?
