My Ex Told Me She’s Still In Love With Me - Chapter 48
Chapter 48: The Past And The Present
The atmosphere turned subtle. Cheng Yi blinked, looking at Ms. Yu, unable to find the words to speak. As expected of a mother, she saw right through her child’s secret thoughts.
Seeing her daughter’s embarrassed expression, Ms. Yu burst out laughing. The slight awkwardness from before vanished instantly, replaced by a mischievous, gossiping curiosity about her daughter’s love life.
“You want to learn your father’s way of chasing Qingwu?” Yu Qingshuang smiled, thinking back to when she and Cheng Qian were young. She said with a hint of mock reproach, “That won’t be of any use to you. Your father was a total block of wood; how would he know how to chase anyone?”
If it weren’t for the fact that she saw he was a decent, upright, and hardworking man, they never would have had a story given his laughable pursuit tactics!
Cheng Yi blinked. “So… Mom, you chased Dad?”
Thinking about it, it seemed to fit. Cheng Qian was silent and reserved, while Ms. Yu was gentle and talkative. Seen this way, Ms. Yu was indeed the proactive one.
“It’s not exactly like that.” Ms. Yu peeled a banana and handed it to Cheng Yi. As she spoke, she continued, “Your father was the one who had feelings for me first. His method of chasing me was to send me messages whenever he was free, saying things like ‘the weather is nice today,’ or coming to pick me up every time I went out. Honestly, if it were someone with a shorter fuse, they probably would have just blocked him!”
Cheng Yi: “…”
As it happened, Meng Qingwu had a bit of a short fuse lately. If she tried that method, Qingwu would probably just yell at her for being mentally ill.
“Then how did you two…”
“In the end, I saw that your father was a good man, so I taught him how to chase me!” Ms. Yu arched an eyebrow, radiating a bit of the romantic flair of her youth.
Cheng Yi fell silent. She hadn’t realized that was an option—teaching someone how to pursue you?
Meng Qingwu teaching her?
Cheng Yi could already imagine her rolling her eyes.
Seeing her silence, Yu Qingshuang sighed softly and asked, “Tell me, how are things between you and Qingwu now?”
Though she found the previous behavior of the three children (the fake relationship drama) somewhat absurd and childish, her child was in the wrong and still loved the other person. What choice did she have? To keep her daughter from being unhappy, she had to accept it.
And now, she even had to help strategize for her.
Cheng Yi’s brow lowered in dejection. She looked at Ms. Yu, hesitant about whether to speak. But if she didn’t tell her mother, she didn’t know who else to talk to—who else could give her valuable advice?
Ms. Yu didn’t rush her. She peeled a banana for herself and ate it slowly, seemingly certain her child would speak eventually.
Sure enough, after a short while, Cheng Yi spoke in a small voice.
“Qingwu said… she doesn’t know if the ‘us’ of now is still the ‘us’ of back then.” Cheng Yi’s eyes looked vacant as she said this. The ‘us’ of then and the ‘us’ of now—aren’t we the same people?
Hearing this, Ms. Yu fell silent. She looked at her bewildered daughter and then thought of the Meng Qingwu she had seen recently, her brow furrowing slightly.
Don’t be fooled by Meng Qingwu’s bright and glamorous exterior. The fact that she could pull off a stunt like faking a relationship with Cheng Zhan just to spite Cheng Yi showed that she still harbored resentment. Yet, alongside that resentment was the fact that she couldn’t let go of Cheng Yi.
If she had let go, she wouldn’t have engaged in such childish behavior.
But it was precisely this love-hate dynamic, coupled with the four-year gap where they were absent from each other’s lives, that fueled the insecurity. Neither knew how the other had changed during those years, which allowed uncertainty to grow.
“The reason she has this thought… is it because you’ve made her feel like the current you is too different from before?” Ms. Yu said softly.
They had been apart for years. If a person’s current behavior feels disconnected from their past self, it’s easy for the other person to feel uncertain, or even begin to doubt if this is the person they fell in love with in the first place.
Too different from before?
Cheng Yi’s gaze sharpened. But am I not the same as before? What was I like back then?
Seeing her lost in thought, Ms. Yu patted her shoulder. “Don’t be in a rush to push yourself on her right now. Since she’s voiced this thought, she needs time to think. And you can use this time to think about the two of you—think about why Qingwu fell in love with you in the beginning.”
Having said this, she got up and left, leaving Cheng Yi to her own space.
However, although she left, she didn’t do nothing. She took out her phone, found a contact she didn’t often reach out to, and sent a message.
…
In a spacious, bright office—a place that should have been serious and formal—the sound of soft, rhythmic moans filled the air, enough to make one’s heart race.
Following a high-pitched, lingering cry, only the sound of two people’s ragged breathing remained.
Lan Xining turned to glance at Meng Shuyu’s phone and panted, “Your phone just rang.”
However, Meng Shuyu currently had her head buried in the crook of Lan Xining’s neck, far too exhausted to move. Lan Xining lay beneath her, feeling Shuyu’s chest heaving violently against hers. A smile seeped into her eyes.
“Getting older, so your stamina is failing?”
Her gaze traveled over Meng Shuyu’s back to the decorations on the wall. Her hand stroked Shuyu’s back rhythmically, a satisfied smile on her lips.
The person she had pined for and loved for so many years was currently in her arms, pressing against her. Their bodies were as close as could be. Just thinking about this intimacy was enough to warm her heart, let alone the fact that it was actually happening. She found herself loving this version of Meng Shuyu more and more—loving her to the very bone.
Hearing her words, Meng Shuyu moved her head in annoyance and bit Lan Xining’s shoulder lightly, grinding her teeth.
“Sss—”
It wasn’t painful, just a tingling, numbing itch, but it made Lan Xining’s heart melt. She tightened her embrace, thinking her so adorable! She didn’t dare say it out loud, though. If she called Shuyu “cute,” given her personality, Shuyu would probably think she was crazy for calling a nearly fifty-year-old woman cute.
Neither moved, quietly enjoying this tender moment. With skin against skin, the comfort reached straight to the heart, and Lan Xining began to want her again.
“Shuyu, shall we change positions?” Lan Xining said hoarsely.
Meng Shuyu snuggled closer, not really wanting to move.
Amused, Lan Xining sat up while holding her, switching their positions so that Meng Shuyu was the one lying beneath her. She cradled one of Shuyu’s legs in her arms, then leaned over to grab the phone from the desk.
Meng Shuyu bit her lip, looking up at Lan Xining’s face, which radiated a mature charm. Their damp bodies pressed together, rubbing slowly at first, sensing the other’s arousal.
“A message from Yu Qingshuang.” Lan Xining looked at the message on the screen, her body pressing even lower as she looked at the phone with her. “She wants to meet you and is asking when you’re free.”
Another shiver ran through her. Lan Xining narrowed her eyes in satisfaction and leaned down to kiss those close-up red lips.
Meng Shuyu bit her lip, trying to suppress the moan that wanted to escape, shaking her head as she was unable to speak. She was afraid that if she opened her mouth, all her previous efforts at restraint would be in vain.
Seeing her endurance, Lan Xining’s brow furrowed slightly, her lips pouting in a charming way. She leaned into her ear and whispered discontentedly, “Why are you always so unwilling to make a sound? Your voice is beautiful.”
“I want to hear it.”
She wanted to hear the uncontrollable sounds of passion caused by her touch; it gave her an indescribable sense of satisfaction. This version of Meng Shuyu, and her voice at times like this, was something only she could see and hear.
Meng Shuyu shot her a look of incomparable charm, but seeing the glint in Lan Xining’s eyes, she sighed inwardly. She had already agreed to be with her; what was the point in refusing such a small request?
She gripped Lan Xining’s hands tightly, averting her eyes in embarrassment as fragmented moans began to spill out, her face turning redder. Lan Xining’s eyes crinkled with a deep smile as she leaned down to kiss the corner of her mouth affectionately.
“How do you want to reply to Yu Qingshuang?” Lan Xining asked while continuing her movements.
Yu Qingshuang reaching out to Meng Shuyu… the only thing between them would be their children, right? So, what had happened between the two of them now?
Thinking of this, Lan Xining’s movements slowed down, her brow furrowing slightly. Although Meng Qingwu wasn’t her biological child, she was the child of the person she loved and someone she had watched grow up. Naturally, she cared.
Meng Shuyu noticed the slowing of the rhythm and looked up at her, her brow furrowing as if she were unhappy. Lan Xining noticed the expression and couldn’t help but chuckle. Resuming the previous pace, she said softly, “She’s looking for you because of Qingwu and Cheng Yi. What’s going on with those two now?”
Meng Shuyu felt the pleasure building more intensely. She reached out to pull Lan Xining into an embrace and said tremblingly, “We’ll… we’ll know when we see her.”
A surge of electricity rushed through her body. Meng Shuyu went limp, yet she couldn’t stop shivering slightly. Lan Xining leaned down to kiss her neck, comforting her bit by bit. “Then shall we go see her together?”
Meng Shuyu’s eyes were half-closed, looking truly exhausted. She nodded, snuggling deeper into Lan Xining’s embrace. Sensing her scent, she felt a bit more at peace.
Looking at the woman in her arms, Lan Xining’s gaze softened. A few months ago, who could have imagined they would be like this?
She glanced at the closed office door and smiled. Especially in a place like this. This person appeared so serious and formal, yet she indulged Lan Xining’s desire to do this here.
She got up to get some tissues to wipe her. Watching her hum softly with closed eyes under her touch, Lan Xining’s heart grew even softer, her movements becoming even more meticulous and gentle.
Once they were both cleaned up, Lan Xining checked the time. It was already 4:00 PM, and she had a meeting at 4:30. If they were to see Yu Qingshuang, it would have to be tonight or tomorrow. But she wanted Shuyu to be able to rest well tonight.
“What time do you want to meet Yu Qingshuang?” she asked softly.
Meng Shuyu opened her eyes, her voice thick with laziness. “Let’s say 7:00 PM tonight. We can have dinner together.”
Thinking back, she realized they had never formally met. She needed to observe the other woman’s character. If the mother wasn’t up to par, she wouldn’t agree to the relationship between Meng Qingwu and Cheng Yi!
