My Elite Boss Is Carrying My Child - Chapter 13
“Why can’t you two get married?”
Once those words left his mouth, Qi Jiezhi and Qu Mingluo exchanged a stunned look.
Qu Mingluo asked him, “Have you ever thought about why your mom and dad are ‘mom and dad’?”
“Because they gave birth to me,” Xi Xingyu replied. “Brother, I’ve had classes on this. I know it’s the combination of a sperm and an egg, and then there’s…”
Before he could finish, Qi Jiezhi broke into a fit of coughing.
He knew Xingyu must have taken those kinds of health classes, so the boy didn’t see anything wrong with discussing it openly.
“So, I definitely know how it works,” Xi Xingyu pressed. “Why can’t you two get married?”
Qi Jiezhi intervened, “It’s almost our turn to go up. Let’s talk about it after we get down, okay?”
“Then we’ll talk when we’re down,” Xi Xingyu agreed quickly.
Qi Jiezhi glanced at Qu Mingluo and then let out a silent sigh of relief. For him, answering a question like that was a bit too much of a challenge.
Once they boarded the ride, they buckled in.
Xi Xingyu said, “Brother Jiezhi, I’m definitely not going to be scared.”
Qi Jiezhi smiled and said, “Alright.”
Despite his brave words, as the roller coaster picked up speed, Xi Xingyu’s screams only grew louder. To him, it was fun, but it wasn’t as if he was completely fearless.
After getting off, Xi Xingyu was literally bouncing. “That was so much fun!”
“We get it,” Qu Mingluo said. “Are you happy now?”
“Not yet, not yet,” Xi Xingyu said. “I want to play other things too.”
“Brother Jiezhi doesn’t want to play anymore,” Qu Mingluo teased.
Qi Jiezhi shook his head, “It’s your brother who doesn’t want to play.”
Despite the banter, they walked toward the next attraction together.
It wasn’t particularly crowded today, so the lines weren’t long except for the most popular rides. Xi Xingyu grew more excited as the day went on, showing no signs of fatigue.
By noon, they found a restaurant for lunch. Since the restaurants inside were all themed with amusement park elements, everything Xi Xingyu saw caught his interest.
Although Qu Mingluo liked to tease him, he never actually turned down the boy’s ideas.
“My brother is so good to me,” Xi Xingyu chirped.
Qu Mingluo looked up at him. “Oh, so now you realize that?”
“ I’ve always known,” Xi Xingyu said seriously.
Then, he turned his face toward Qi Jiezhi. “Brother Jiezhi, isn’t my brother the best brother in the world?”
Qi Jiezhi was in the middle of drinking water. When the question was suddenly thrown at him, he didn’t react immediately.
He set his glass down and caught Qu Mingluo’s gaze from across the table. There was a certain kind of expectation in that look that he couldn’t quite decipher.
“Yes,” he said, his voice soft. “Your brother is a very good brother.”
Qu Mingluo glanced at him and remained silent.
“Then, Brother Jiezhi, do you think my brother would be a good boyfriend?” Xi Xingyu asked suddenly.
“Xiao Xing!” Qi Jiezhi and Qu Mingluo shouted at the same time.
Xi Xingyu blinked innocently, looking from Qi Jiezhi to Qu Mingluo. “What’s wrong? I was just asking. Brother Jiezhi, you still haven’t answered my previous question.”
“What question?” Qi Jiezhi played dumb.
“Why you two can’t get married,” Xi Xingyu said. “I know two boys can’t have babies, but they can still get married. My older cousin got married, and they wore really nice suits and had a wedding ceremony.”
Qi Jiezhi felt a headache coming on. He looked at Qu Mingluo, hoping he would help bail him out, only to find Qu Mingluo staring down at his plate as if he hadn’t heard a word.
“Brother Ming…” he called out for help.
Qu Mingluo looked up, cleared his throat, and said, “Xiao Xing, eat your food.”
“But I want to know…”
“I’ll tell you after we finish eating,” Qu Mingluo said.
Xi Xingyu’s eyes lit up. “Really?”
“Really,” Qu Mingluo promised. “But for now, eat.”
Xi Xingyu immediately buried his head in his meal, eating at a speed that made it look like he was completing a mission.
Watching this, Qi Jiezhi suddenly found it a bit funny. He remembered when he was a child, chasing adults and asking about everything under the sun. When his mother was around, she would answer him patiently, but later…
There was no one left to ask.
“Brother Jiezhi,” Xi Xingyu said with his mouth full, speaking unclearly, “you should eat too. My brother is going to tell me once we’re finished.”
Qi Jiezhi smiled and picked up his chopsticks. “Okay.”
He could feel Qu Mingluo’s gaze lingering on him, which made him feel quite distracted throughout the meal.
Xi Xingyu was the first to put down his chopsticks, looking expectantly at Qu Mingluo. “Brother, I’m done.”
Qu Mingluo looked into his brother’s bright eyes, then at Qi Jiezhi, who was sitting across from him with his eyes downcast.
“Xiao Xing,” he said, “two men can get married, but…”
“But what?” Xi Xingyu was still curious.
“But it requires both people to love each other, to want to give each other that sense of ceremony, and to be willing to let everyone know,” Qu Mingluo explained. “And if two people of the same sex get married, they have to face many difficulties and misunderstandings from others.”
Xi Xingyu nodded, though he only half-understood. “Then does Brother Jiezhi like you?”
Qi Jiezhi snapped his head up, meeting Qu Mingluo’s eyes.
There was surprise, panic, and something else in those eyes that he didn’t dare to examine closely. Children’s words are innocent, and usually, no one cares, but falling on their ears, those words stirred up all sorts of feelings.
Their gazes collided in the air, then both looked away simultaneously, as if they both felt something was off.
“Xiao Xing,” Qi Jiezhi’s voice was a bit hoarse, “this question…”
“I don’t know,” Qu Mingluo said suddenly.
Both Xi Xingyu and Qi Jiezhi were stunned.
Qu Mingluo told Xi Xingyu, “I don’t know if he likes me or not, but you shouldn’t ask Brother Jiezhi. It makes him feel awkward.”
Xi Xingyu nodded, seemingly understanding, and indeed didn’t press the matter further.
Only when Qi Jiezhi saw the situation was resolved did he feel his heart settle. He realized that he really didn’t know how to face such questions.
He felt that, if necessary, it might be better not to appear in front of Xi Xingyu together with Qu Mingluo. After all, a child’s world is very pure and simple. Xingyu didn’t mean anything by it, he just thought they both looked good, so he wanted them both to be his “brothers.”
“Will Brother Jiezhi stop liking me because I’m talking nonsense…”
Because there had been silence for a while, Xi Xingyu whispered under his breath. One could see the clear worry on his face, he was genuinely a little afraid.
“No, no,” Qi Jiezhi said. “Don’t let your imagination run wild. What do you want to play after lunch? Do you want to make a list?”
As soon as he said that, Xi Xingyu was instantly interested again.
“Then if I arrange it, will you two just follow me?”
Qi Jiezhi nodded, and Qu Mingluo followed suit.
Neither of them minded letting him take charge, since they had promised to spend the day playing with him anyway. Qi Jiezhi had always believed that once you agree to someone’s idea, you should follow through with it. Even if Xi Xingyu was young, the fact that he had the ability to organize everything was a good thing.
“Brother Jiezhi, Brother,” Xi Xingyu said, “I want to go buy plushies. I’ll buy one for each of you.”
“Okay.”
Qi Jiezhi didn’t actually know much about this particular franchise, so he just picked one he liked. Coincidentally, the plushie he grabbed and the one Qu Mingluo picked were a matching set.
“Brother, Brother Jiezhi,” Xi Xingyu pointed out, “the plushies you picked are a pair!”
Qi Jiezhi was a bit surprised. “What a coincidence.”
“Yeah, yeah!” Xi Xingyu laughed. Recalling what he said earlier, he added happily, “It’s just such a coincidence. Maybe it’s some kind of sign.”
Neither Qi Jiezhi nor Qu Mingluo responded to that. They just held their chosen plushies and looked at Xi Xingyu.
Xi Xingyu had picked quite a lot for himself. He seemed to have many favorites and moved with purpose. Qu Mingluo and Qi Jiezhi just followed behind him, never interfering with his choices.
Once he was done, he skipped over to them.
He said, “I’ll pay for mine and yours together. I’m paying.”
He wasn’t even negotiating with them, he had already decided.
Qu Mingluo and Qi Jiezhi didn’t argue. They just silently handed over their selections. Xi Xingyu went to wait in line to pay, then happily handed their respective plushies back to them.
As for the rest of the bags, Qu Mingluo called his assistant to come and take them away.
“How do you know your brother has an assistant?” Qi Jiezhi asked curiously.
“My brother doesn’t like carrying things. He likes to use money to solve these problems,” Xi Xingyu said. “Once his assistant arrives, he won’t have to carry any of this.”
Qi Jiezhi laughed. “So that’s how it is.”
Qu Mingluo cleared his throat, seemingly unwilling to listen to the two of them discuss him.
“What else do you want to play?” Qu Mingluo asked him.
“My brother is acting like a tyrant!” Xi Xingyu said. “He only asks that because he doesn’t want us to talk anymore.”
“You’re right,” Qi Jiezhi joined in. “What should we do about that?”
“We don’t want my brother anymore,” Xi Xingyu joked. “Brother Jiezhi can be my only brother.”
“There you go again,” Qu Mingluo said. “How about you go home with Brother Jiezhi and I’ll just let your parents know?”
“But…” Xi Xingyu started, then stopped.
“But what?” Qu Mingluo teased. “You want Brother Jiezhi, but you also want Mom and Dad?”
“Yeah, exactly,” Xi Xingyu said. “I like Brother Jiezhi a lot, but I love Mom and Dad too. Can’t they all just play with me together?”
