My Demon Lord Junior Sister Is Pretending to Be Good to Seduce Me - Chapter 40
The Drunken Showdown
Lin Yumo withdrew her gaze and walked toward the “Cloud Smoke Fine Cotton.” She paused in front of it and suddenly smiled. She said to the shopkeeper, “My beloved is a woman.”
She took the Cloud Smoke Fine Cotton down, holding it in her hands, and added to the shopkeeper’s astonishment: “She is the most beautiful woman in the world.”
The shopkeeper looked flustered. His measuring tape lay across the fine cotton, and the chalk in his hand seemed unsure where to mark the length. “Then do you know her size?”
“I generally know.”
Lin Yumo raised her hands and gestured, using herself as an example.
She had embraced her and knew how slender her waist was.
She had held her hand and knew how long her sleeves were.
She had seen her only wearing an undergarment, so she knew her size.
She saw her every day and knew her height.
Lin Yumo lowered her hands and took out a box from her Qiankun pouch (a spatial storage bag). The box was neatly filled with silver bars, stacked three layers high.
The shopkeeper took it and said, “This is too much.”
“Use the rest to make two long cloaks for me,” she replied.
“Very well. You can come back in half a month to collect them.”
Lin Yumo nodded and turned to leave.
Suddenly, a male voice, seemingly drunk, called out from behind, “Hey! Wife! Why isn’t dinner ready yet?”
Lin Yumo wanted to look back but only saw the shopkeeper closing the door with a bitter smile. In the moment before the door closed completely, Lin Yumo caught sight of a sparkle in the corner of her eye.
She withdrew her gaze, her heart heavy and filled with complex emotions.
Lin Yumo bought some more snacks like crispy sugar, peach blossom pastries, and osmanthus cakes before returning to the guesthouse in Baidi City.
She hadn’t even had a chance to rest when she saw several men holding swords to Shen Zhuli and Li Shuangxing, keeping them far away from Mu Xuewei.
Sitting directly opposite Mu Xuewei was the man who had held the number nine token earlier in the day. He poured two bowls of wine and said, “I am Yun You from Penglai Island. I have long admired the maiden, and I hope you will do me the honor.”
He raised his wine bowl and clinked it against the one in front of Mu Xuewei.
Lin Yumo looked at him. Dressed in white, holding a silver fan, he looked like a handsome young master.
Hmph, what a pretentious fellow.
Lin Yumo frowned and raised her hand, snapping off a branch from a nearby peach blossom tree.
Before Lin Yumo could act, a figure leaped down from the eaves, picked up the wine bowl in front of Mu Xuewei, and declared, “Maiden Mu has a low tolerance for alcohol. I shall drink this bowl for her.”
Lin Yumo froze for a moment, then instantly reacted. The branch in her hand shot between Li Shuangjiang and Yun You, embedding itself a third of the way into the pillar beside them.
“Oops, my hand slipped,” Lin Yumo said, clapping her hands as if dusting off any clinging debris.
She strode over, stood squarely between Mu Xuewei and Li Shuangjiang, and picked up the stack of bowls. With a flick of her hand, the bowls lined up neatly in two rows.
She grabbed the wine jar and filled both rows of bowls. Resting her left hand on the table, she spoke, her voice strained through her back teeth: “I’ve long heard that Penglai Island has a gentleman with a silver fan, known by the epithet ‘Lord Glint,’ and I’ve admired him for a long time.”
She curved her lips into a smile, her disdain for this ‘Lord Glint’ clearly visible in her eyes. “Seeing you today, the reputation is well-deserved.”
“Cheers,” she said, raising her bowl, clinking it against Yun You’s, and drinking it down in one gulp.
Yun You, not to be outdone, also drained the wine in his bowl.
The wine was top-grade Drunken (Xiāoyáo – Free and Unrestrained), not strong on the entry, with an excellent, rich texture—a perfect drink for a night-time toast.
However, its after-effects were potent.
Lin Yumo clicked her tongue and picked up another bowl. It was a pity that such a fine wine had to be swallowed without careful savoring.
Such a beautiful night was a waste of good wine.
She drank another bowl.
Yun You also drank another bowl.
With the loud clatter of bowls hitting the table, the bowls in front of both of them were practically empty.
Lin Yumo lifted the wine jar and refilled them.
Yun You, however, stopped her, saying, “Let’s end it here today. I believe Maiden Mu needs to rest.”
How dare he mention her Shimei!
Lin Yumo grabbed his collar and slammed him back onto the stool. “Today, you drink as much as I do. I pour how much, you drink how much.”
She raised her bowl, arched an eyebrow—full of provocation—and clinked her bowl against Yun You’s, lowering her voice. “Drink!”
The atmosphere grew tense. The disciples who had been holding Shen Zhuli quickly gathered behind Yun You, looking ready for a fight.
Lin Yumo stated, “Baidi City has its rules, and the Battle of Deer Hunt has its rules. Private brawling will lead to expulsion from the Battle of Deer Hunt.”
The disciples exchanged hesitant glances. “Brother Yun, maybe we should…”
Yun You refused to back down and drank the bowl down in one gulp.
Before he could swallow the last mouthful, he spat it all out, along with the dinner he had eaten.
Lin Yumo reacted instantly, fiercely kicking the table, sending Yun You and his men stumbling backward. This prevented the filth from getting onto her and Xuewei.
Lin Yumo looked at him with disgust, all her excitement gone. She said coldly, “Get out.”
The disciples helped the retching Yun You, who limped and vomited a continuous trail as they staggered toward the door.
Lin Yumo sat down next to Mu Xuewei and, heedless of Li Shuangjiang’s presence, leaned her head on the table, murmuring drunkenly to Mu Xuewei, “I drank too much. I feel so unwell.”
Mu Xuewei smiled, tucking Lin Yumo’s messy hair behind her ear. “This is what you get for being so impulsive.”
Her fingertip stroked Lin Yumo’s cheek, making Lin Yumo feel ticklish. Lin Yumo’s face was flushed. “Mmm…”
She uttered a disjointed sentence. “It’s my fault for having such a beautiful Shimei.”
Li Shuangjiang: …
He then wisely chose to leave.
Lin Yumo half-opened her eyes, darted a look at Li Shuangjiang’s retreating back, and felt considerably more satisfied.
