- Chapter 29 - A Kiss on the Cheek
She printed a kiss upon her burning cheek.
The sunlight filtered through the gaps in the leaves, casting mottled shadows on the scorching rubber track. Students huddled together under the shade of the trees, chatting and gossiping in small groups.
Ji Zeyuan occupied a spot on the green lawn beneath a large oak tree. She held her legs close, her brows slightly furrowed in an expression of displeasure. The other students, unwilling to provoke the clearly ill-tempered heiress of the Jixia Corporation, kept their distance.
Only Zhang Linen remained by her side. This time, she truly didn’t know what had gotten into Ji Zeyuan. Offering hollow words of comfort wasn’t Linen’s style, so she opted for silent companionship.
However, Zhang Linen had no idea that she was the very reason Ji Zeyuan was acting this way.
Noticing Zhang Linen’s predicament, Ji Zeyuan pursed her lips. She didn’t intend to stubbornly hold onto her pride and suffer in silence; she needed to vent. “Earlier, during the physical education grouping… why did you pair up with that… that woman?”
Zhang Linen really hadn’t expected Ji Zeyuan to be sulking for so long over such a thing. She couldn’t help but chuckle and asked, “Because the teacher said to group by student ID. You weren’t listening to the teacher in class. Besides, it’s just a group assignment. What are you so unhappy about?”
“I’m just unhappy!” Ji Zeyuan suddenly stood up, her shout loud enough for students dozens of meters away to hear clearly.
Zhang Linen didn’t feel embarrassed; instead, she found it quite amusing. After all, Ji Zeyuan acting like this wasn’t a one-day occurrence; she had long since grown used to it.
Ji Zeyuan stood there, staring Zhang Linen down, but Zhang Linen remained calm and gave no reaction. Instead, it was Ji Zeyuan who felt embarrassed first under the gaze of the surrounding students.
In the end, she didn’t wait for Zhang Linen to coax her. Feeling awkward, she sat back down in a somewhat pathetic manner.
“You… I think you did it on purpose. There are people in our class who didn’t follow the student IDs. Why are you the only one who listens to the teacher so well?” Ji Zeyuan mumbled, hugging her knees.
Zhang Linen smiled without speaking. Ji Zeyuan’s current appearance was simply too comical; she wanted to watch her a bit longer and didn’t want to explain too quickly.
After waiting for a long while without hearing a single word of comfort from Zhang Linen, Ji Zeyuan proactively and hesitantly leaned closer. She poked Zhang Linen with her fingertip and asked softly, “Why aren’t you saying anything?”
Zhang Linen looked at her quietly, still silent, her dark and clear eyes full of a lively light.
The corners of Ji Zeyuan’s mouth lifted slightly, her heart stirred. At that moment, Zhang Linen suddenly leaned forward. Before Ji Zeyuan could react, Linen’s cherry lips pressed a kiss upon her burning cheek.
“Don’t be angry anymore,” Zhang Linen said gently.
Ji Zeyuan’s cheeks flushed pink, her lips slightly pursed. This wasn’t the first time Zhang Linen had coaxed her like this, but that had been when they were very small. Ever since Ji Zeyuan had differentiated, Zhang Linen had not kissed her like this for a long time.
Ji Zeyuan buried her face in her arms and mumbled in a muffled voice, “Do you think I’m still a child?”
A subtle silence fell between the two. A moment later, Ji Zeyuan lifted her head and turned back toward Zhang Linen.
“En-en, lean in a bit closer,” Ji Zeyuan said in a low, slightly trembling voice.
A breeze swept through, the lush leaves rubbing against each other with a “rustling” sound. The sky was a vast, boundless expanse of uniform color.
Zhang Linen looked at her silently for a few seconds, then tilted her upper body toward her.
Ji Zeyuan’s throat moved silently. Nervous yet excited, she tilted her neck up slightly and printed a kiss on Zhang Linen’s fair cheek as well.
The kiss was like a dragonfly skimming the water—very light and very quick. After finishing, Ji Zeyuan shyly rested her head on Zhang Linen’s shoulder.
Once the lingering warmth of the kiss had passed, Ji Zeyuan took Zhang Linen’s soft hand, lightly squeezing her palm, and whispered, “I’m not angry anymore.”
…
That night, after watching Zhang Linen fall asleep with her own eyes, Ji Zeyuan walked lightly back to her own bedroom.
Clear moonlight flowed across the floor, as quiet as a waveless lake. Zhang Linen opened her eyes after Ji Zeyuan left. After waiting quietly for an hour, she cautiously got out of bed.
The room was filled with the fragrance of Ji Zeyuan’s pheromones. Barefoot, Zhang Linen walked out of the room step by step. The living room was dim and indistinct.
Leaning against the living room wall, Zhang Linen peeked toward Ji Zeyuan’s bedroom. The door was half-open. After confirming that Ji Zeyuan was lying down, she tiptoed into the room.
Everything was silent; there was only the sound of Ji Zeyuan’s steady and rhythmic breathing.
Zhang Linen walked to the side of the bed, half-bent over. She quietly scanned the darkness for a moment and soon found the phone Ji Zeyuan had placed on the bedside table.
She picked up the phone, first turning the volume to the lowest setting, then held the phone against Ji Zeyuan’s right thumb to unlock the screen.
Next, Zhang Linen opened her own phone and tapped into a file package for a GPS tracker. Step by step, following the instruction manual she had already memorized by heart, she installed the tracker on Ji Zeyuan’s phone.
Once that was done, Zhang Linen tapped the tracker on her own phone to connect with the locator on Ji Zeyuan’s. After the software successfully started, she carefully followed the instructions to hide the locator and deleted all traces of the installation.
Zhang Linen gently put the phone back, but she did not hurry to leave.
Ji Zeyuan was lying on her back on the bed, her head resting on a pale yellow soft pillow. Her chin was slightly tilted, her thin lips tightly shut, her expression relaxed.
Zhang Linen sat on the floor, leaning against the bed, quietly tracing the handsome contours of Ji Zeyuan’s face with her eyes. Finally, her gaze fixed on those thin, reddish lips.
A strong and intense surge of desire erupted from within Zhang Linen. She leaned up, cautiously approaching Ji Zeyuan. Suddenly, perhaps having a dream, Ji Zeyuan’s eyelashes fluttered, and she mumbled something blurred in her sleep. Zhang Linen hurriedly sat back down on the floor.
After waiting for things to quiet down again, Zhang Linen didn’t dare to take any more risks. She restrained herself and reached out to stroke Ji Zeyuan’s right hand, which hung at her side. Ji Zeyuan’s fingers were well-defined, her skin fair, and her nails were trimmed neatly and cleanly. The five fingers were white with a hint of pink, elegant and beautiful.
Zhang Linen lightly caressed from the base of the fingers to the tips. Seeing that Ji Zeyuan had no reaction, she grew bolder and lowered her head to kiss them.
The cool fingers were accompanied by a bit of moisture. The alluring scent of roses lingered invisibly in the air. Zhang Linen’s breathing grew hurried; she panted and uncontrollably gave the slender fingers a light lick.
Ji Zeyuan frowned slightly in her sleep. Zhang Linen gazed at the sleeping Ji Zeyuan and reluctantly withdrew her hand.
After returning to her own bedroom, that wave of heat had not completely subsided. Zhang Linen curled up on the bed and, with lingering desire, placed the fingers that had touched Ji Zeyuan onto her own lips, urgently inhaling the scent of roses that filled the air.
She tried her best to calm the surging ripples within her body, but it wasn’t until dawn arrived that the undulating sensation finally dissipated under the touch of the sunlight.
…
At around five in the morning, Ji Zeyuan was woken by a call from Ji Cheng. An old, long-term project required her to fly abroad immediately.
The series of plans Ji Zeyuan had originally made for Zhang Linen fell through before they could even be implemented.
Because it was an emergency and there had been no prior arrangement, Ji Zeyuan hurriedly grabbed a few pieces of clothing from the closet and packed them in a suitcase.
Ji Cheng had someone book an 8:00 AM flight for her. She hadn’t wanted to disturb Zhang Linen and planned to leave quietly on her own, but then she remembered that a few days had passed since the last marking. She didn’t know how long she would be away, so for safety’s sake, Ji Zeyuan decided to wake Zhang Linen and deepen the mark.
She walked to Zhang Linen’s bedroom and gently pushed open the door.
Inside, Zhang Linen lay quietly. Her cream-white camisole nightdress was bunched up to the top third of her thighs. Her snow-white, slender legs were curled around the quilt. Her hair was messy, and one side of the strap had fallen down, revealing a smooth shoulder line and deep collarbones.
Ji Zeyuan’s breath hitched; she felt like retreating.
Before she could change her mind, Zhang Linen frowned and turned over. Her peach-like eyes were misty, and her voice was raspy. “Xiao Yuan?”
Ji Zeyuan’s retreating steps stopped, and she turned back. “Sorry, I woke you up.”
Zhang Linen propped herself up on the bed. As she bent her legs, the nightdress shifted upward a few more inches. Ji Zeyuan tried her hardest to control herself, keeping her gaze from drifting downward.
“What’s wrong?” Zhang Linen asked gently. Perhaps from catching a chill during the night, her cheeks were abnormally flushed.
Ji Zeyuan tilted her face slightly and said, “There’s a project I need to go to Country G for temporarily. It might take a few days. I wanted to deepen the mark for you before I leave.”
Zhang Linen knit her brows dazedly. After a moment, she said nothing and simply bowed her head, brushing her hair out of the way.
Ji Zeyuan walked over and sat on the edge of the bed. She held her breath and focused all her attention on the task of “treating” Zhang Linen’s condition.
On the fair back of the neck, the pale pink bite marks had not yet fully faded, etched into the skin like a blooming flower.
Ji Zeyuan lightly held Zhang Linen’s shoulder and lowered her head to bite into that unhealed patch of skin once more.
The moment her teeth pierced the gland, Zhang Linen couldn’t control a low moan from her throat: “Ah… um…”
A large amount of premium Alpha pheromones was injected into her body. It felt like a stormy sea within Zhang Linen, causing her to tremble uncontrollably.
Sensing that Zhang Linen was shaking violently, Ji Zeyuan gently held her thin body a bit tighter, yet she restrained herself from pulling her close enough for intimate contact.
Five minutes later, the marking was over. Zhang Linen collapsed into Ji Zeyuan’s arms, her peach-like eyes watery, blurred, and seductive.
Ji Zeyuan’s heartstrings vibrated. In an instant, her pheromones lost control, producing a violent fluctuation. Enduring the tearing, chaotic pain of a looming rut, she gently wiped the tears from the corners of Zhang Linen’s eyes and said, “Get some rest. I’ll be back in a few days.”
As soon as she spoke, Ji Zeyuan didn’t delay for a second. Like an arrow from a bow, she stumbled and ran out. She slammed Zhang Linen’s bedroom door shut, then leaned against it and slid to the floor, her strength gone. With a hand that was nearly convulsing, she took a powerful suppressant from her pocket.
The medication took effect quickly. Her heart rate, which had been like a runaway horse, gradually recovered. Once she caught her breath, Ji Zeyuan wiped the sweat from her forehead and propped herself up from the ground. She haphazardly dusted off her legs, checked the time, and hurried her departure.
Inside the room, hearing the sound of the front door closing, Zhang Linen picked up her phone and opened the tracking app.
Zhang Linen tiredly held the phone to her ear. A mechanical electronic female voice reported the real-time path of the locator.
The lingering scent of roses acted like a sedative, making it difficult for Zhang Linen to focus. She stared up at the ceiling, her eyelids heavy. The scenery before her gradually blurred into one until it turned into a void of black.
…
The sunset was magnificent, casting a blush over the city.
At the base of the Jixia Group headquarters building, Mia pulled down the mirror above the driver’s seat. She checked her appearance, ensuring everything was perfect before opening the door and stepping out.
The receptionist saw her from a distance and hurriedly pulled a small mirror from under the counter to fix her messy bangs.
Mia walked to the front desk, smiling with the same witty and flirtatious manner as the previous two times as she greeted the receptionist.
The receptionist shyly covered her mouth and smiled, asking, “Are you here to see President Ji again today?”
Mia’s eyes flickered, and she gave a slight smile. “No, I’m looking for Secretary Zhang.”
