My Brother's Arranged Marriage Partner Is My Boyfriend - Chapter 50
The reason Gu Shize felt guilty was not because of his conflict with Mo Leyang; rather, it was because if Gu Ran continued to investigate, she would inevitably discover that he had provoked that madman Mo Leyang because of Bai Nanxing.
He did not want Gu Feng or Gu Ran to know about this. It was one thing to have had designs on Bai Nanxing in the past, but now that Bai Nanxing was someone else’s fiancé, his lingering obsession was an entirely different matter.
As luck would have it, the person Bai Nanxing was marrying was a member of the Mo family.
Furthermore, the Old Master had a long-standing feud with Mo Yuncheng; they only maintained a facade of peace for the sake of business. Gu Shize had no desire to be forced into an arranged marriage with someone he didn’t like at such a young age.
Gu Shize admitted he was a bit of a playboy. In the past, he had frequently wandered among flowers, but he was merely playing around with those people; his heart had never been involved.
But Bai Nanxing was different.
Bai Nanxing was the only boy who had ever truly moved his heart. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have become so fly-blown with shame and anger after being exposed.
“Anyway, Sis, you don’t need to worry about my business. I’ll handle it myself.”
Gu Ran’s biggest headache was this younger brother of hers. He hadn’t learned any real skills, yet he loved to stir up trouble everywhere, leaving someone else to clean up his mess in the end. “You’ll handle it? You’ll handle crap! If you could handle things, you wouldn’t have let someone bully you to your face!”
Gu Shize argued back stubbornly, “How was I bullied? I just didn’t want to lower myself to that madman’s level! If we really went head-to-head, who knows who would have come out on top!”
He then added, “Besides, does your brother look like someone who is easy to bully?!”
Gu Ran immediately reached out, grabbed his ear, and yanked him over. “You’re not easy to bully? If you weren’t easy to bully, would the principal be calling me?!”
“Ow, ow, ow! It hurts!”
“It only hurts so you’ll remember!”
After struggling for a while, Gu Shize finally escaped Gu Ran’s grasp. He vigorously rubbed his reddened ear and said, “Sis, can you give me some face? There are so many outsiders here. How am I supposed to maintain my reputation in front of them in the future?”
Gu Feng was getting annoyed by the sound of their bickering and immediately put a stop to it. “Enough! Don’t you think you’ve embarrassed yourselves enough? If there’s nothing else, hurry up and see the guests out!”
Gu Shize took the opportunity to walk out. He originally intended to catch a glimpse of Bai Nanxing, but he didn’t expect to see Mo Leyang as soon as he stepped outside.
Mo Leyang stood there with a terrible expression. Although a smile was still plastered on his face, he made no effort to hide the resentment in his heart.
Gu Shize followed his gaze and saw Mo Yichen and Bai Nanxing.
The two seemed to be discussing something, standing extremely close to each other. From this angle, it looked as if they were embracing.
After a long moment, Bai Nanxing finally moved a noticeable distance away from Mo Yichen.
Gu Shize was curious to see what Mo Leyang would do next, so he stood aside and watched.
However, Mo Leyang did not plan to do anything. After glancing at the two of them, he walked directly toward them.
Bai Nanxing was looking up with a smile. “Brother Chen, how do you plan to thank me today?”
Mo Yichen hadn’t expected Gu Ran to return. He didn’t hate Gu Ran just because of the conflict with the Gu family, but he didn’t particularly like her either. At the very least, he disliked her recent remarks, which were filled with a deliberate, calculated tone. “What do you want?”
Just as Bai Nanxing was about to speak, Mo Leyang arrived and interjected, “Didn’t Big Brother say there were matters to attend to? How do you still have time to chat here?”
The banquet had ended at 9:30 PM. Mo Yichen had chatted with Gu Feng for a while longer, and looking down at his watch, it was now nearly 10:00 PM.
There weren’t actually any urgent matters; that was merely a pretext used to deal with Gu Feng. However, if one were to be precise, there was indeed one thing that needed handling.
Mo Yichen looked up. “Speaking of which, Dad asked me to give you a message. Go home once the banquet is over tonight; he has something to tell us. We might have to go together in a moment.”
“What is the Old Master plotting now?”
“When have we ever been able to see through his mind?”
Mo Leyang remained silent.
Seeing this, Bai Nanxing said tactfully, “Then you guys go ahead and get busy, Brother Chen. I can go back by myself.”
“Alright. I’ll have Uncle Chen drive you back to school in a bit,” Mo Yichen said.
Bai Nanxing gripped the phone in his pocket, which was vibrating incessantly, and forced a small smile. “No need to trouble Uncle Chen. My classmate is coming to pick me up later; I’ll go with him.”
Mo Yichen didn’t insist. Moreover, Mo Yuncheng disliked being kept waiting. He said goodbye to Bai Nanxing and, escorted by his secretary, got into the car.
Now, only Bai Nanxing and Mo Leyang were left standing there.
Seeing Bai Nanxing looking seemingly reluctant to part, Mo Leyang felt a surge of inexplicable irritation. He even felt the urge to haul Bai Nanxing directly into his car right now, strip him of all his clothes, and crash into him repeatedly behind the car windows until Bai Nanxing cried and begged for mercy beneath him.
Thinking of this, Mo Leyang couldn’t help but feel excited.
He licked the corner of his mouth and said, “What, reluctant to see my big brother leave?”
His tone was clearly very displeased, but Bai Nanxing couldn’t be bothered to pay him any mind. He was the one who should be throwing a tantrum today, yet here Mo Leyang was, playing the victim and making accusations before he could even settle the score.
“If Senior has nothing else to do, you can leave now.”
Just as Bai Nanxing finished speaking, a driver walked over. “Third Young Master, the Master wants you to hurry.”
Mo Leyang waved his hand, signaling the driver to wait in the car.
He took a step forward and leaned into Bai Nanxing’s ear. “Little Junior, today’s incident… you did it on purpose, didn’t you?”
Bai Nanxing smiled. “Senior is so smart; you must be very clear whether it was intentional or not. Or are you not confident enough in your own IQ?”
Having received the answer he wanted, Mo Leyang looked satisfied. If there weren’t so many people around, he would have definitely bitten Bai Nanxing’s neck right then and there.
Thinking of this, Mo Leyang glanced down at the hollow of Bai Nanxing’s shoulder. Although it was covered by clothes now, he had caught a glimpse out of the corner of his eye while they were changing on the balcony. The bite mark hadn’t disappeared; the color had only faded slightly.
It seems I bit too lightly after all, he thought.
When we get to school next week, I must bite harder, Mo Leyang promised himself.
However, Mo Leyang never expected that the next time he saw Bai Nanxing, it would not be in a week’s time.
After seeing off that pervert Mo Leyang, Bai Nanxing stood alone. He slowly took his phone out of his pocket and answered the call.
Bai Yi’s voice, sounding like a death knell, came through the line.
“Are you done chatting? Does your father’s word carry no weight now? Do I have to come and invite you personally before you’re willing to come home?”
Bai Nanxing gave a mocking smile but didn’t say much. He simply replied, “I’ll take a taxi back myself. No need to pick me up.”
With that, Bai Nanxing hung up the phone.
He then turned and walked toward the opposite side of the road.
He was walking with his head down, looking at his phone. After walking for a distance, he noticed a dark shadow in front of him and looked up.
Once he saw clearly who it was, Bai Nanxing smiled. “Third Young Master Gu, are you planning to continue your revenge out here? However, I’m in a hurry to get back tonight and don’t have time to play with you. Please move aside.”
Under the warm white glow of the streetlights, Gu Shize noticed that Bai Nanxing seemed to be coated in a layer of faint moonlight. His whole presence became gentle, yet possessed a charm that was both pure and enchanting. His lips were a bit red from the cold wind, looking very delectable, and Gu Shize was unconsciously drawn in.
He swallowed hard, suppressing the impulse in his heart, and asked, “Are they not taking you back?”
Bai Nanxing didn’t know why he was suddenly asking this and found it confusing. “Whether they take me back or not, what does it have to do with Third Young Master Gu?”
Back at school, before they had fallen out, Bai Nanxing would call him “Senior Gu Shize.” Now, with this new form of address, the distance between them had grown instantly. Gu Shize felt uncomfortable. “Why aren’t they taking you back?”
Bai Nanxing thought he was being quite bizarre. “This is my personal business; it doesn’t seem to concern Third Young Master Gu. Also, I am a very vengeful person. If someone treats me with an inch of respect, I will return a foot; if they cross me, I will certainly settle the debt.”
“I’m sorry.”
“What?”
“Those things before… they were my fault. I’m sorry!”
“…”
Gu Shize looked at him with an unnatural expression. “I know it’s impossible for you to forgive me. No matter how you retaliate against me in the future, I won’t blame you!”
Bai Nanxing couldn’t figure out what Gu Shize was trying to do. This sudden apology felt as if his brain had been struck by something. “Third Young Master Gu, what kind of act is this now? If there’s nothing else, I’m in a hurry. Please move aside.”
As he spoke, Bai Nanxing moved to bypass Gu Shize.
But Gu Shize wouldn’t give up and grabbed his arm. “They aren’t taking you… I… I’ll take you back! There are very few taxis around here, and the weather is so cold; you’ll catch a cold.”
Bai Nanxing looked up and glared at him, his meaning very clear.
Gu Shize had no choice but to let go. “I… I don’t have any other intentions. I just want to give you a ride.”
“I won’t trouble Third Young Master Gu then.” Bai Nanxing found it truly ridiculous and, at the same time, felt that this man was quite a glutton for punishment. “Third Young Master Gu, don’t act as if you’re the victim. I won’t have feelings for an aggressor—especially an aggressor who has the wicked intent but lacks the courage to follow through.”
Gu Shize gnashed his teeth. “So, you think I’m inferior to that madman Mo Leyang? Are you two together? Does his big brother know about this? The person you’re supposed to marry is his big brother, yet you’re carrying on with him behind his back… you guys are…”
“Gu Shize!” Bai Nanxing didn’t let him finish those last few words. He looked at Gu Shize with loathing and said, “Even if that’s the case, so what? What does it have to do with you, Gu Shize? Don’t flatter yourself by thinking that just because you have the Gu family behind you, everyone in the world is beneath you. Without Gu Feng, do you think you’d still have the confidence to stand here and question me? Also, I’m curious—who gave you the courage to think you’re so great? Fish Leong?”
Bai Nanxing ignored him after saying those words and walked straight across the road, leaving Gu Shize standing alone under the streetlight, his expression full of resentment and helplessness.
