- Chapter 108 - The White Jade Capital in the Sky
Mu Yin tossed and turned in bed. Perhaps she had grown accustomed to it, but this time the episode didn’t feel as intense. Aside from the first day, when the pain had left her drenched in cold sweat, the following two days only left her feeling weak and sore all over, with no other discomfort.
In fact, even while lying in bed, she could continue absorbing the energy from the Spirit Stones while letting the mushrooms grow.
Had Mu Yin truly gotten used to it?
That was a good thing. If so, she wouldn’t need Si Lingqing’s help anymore. She could just endure a day of soreness, and by the next day, she’d be back to eating and drinking as usual.
Speaking of eating and drinking, Mu Yin couldn’t help but feel something was off.
She sat up in bed, set aside the mirror in her hand, and lifted a corner of the curtain at the door to peek outside. Just then, two maids approached her quarters. Mu Yin didn’t lower the curtain but waited until they were right in front of her before asking, “What’s for dinner today?”
The maids were carrying her meal. Mu Yin glanced at it, aside from a portion of rice, there was only a small plate of pickled cucumbers.
“Miss Mu Yin, this is all that’s left in the palace. We apologize for the meager offering,” the maids said respectfully. “Water is also in short supply, so you may not be able to bathe for the next couple of days.”
The moment she heard she couldn’t bathe, Mu Yin frowned. “Where’s your princess? How long has she been gone? When is she coming back?”
The maids shook their heads. “We don’t know. Her Highness didn’t inform us. Miss Mu Yin, there’s no need to worry about her. Please eat first.”
Mu Yin pressed her lips together. “I’m not worried about her. I’m worried about myself.”
Taking the food back inside, she ate despite its simplicity at least it was edible. But the maids’ words unsettled her. Ah Qin had said she’d be back by noon, yet several days had passed. Now her food supply was running out. Could something have happened?
Mu Yin worried that Ah Qin, who had gone out to forage, might not return, leaving her to starve in this place. The thought weighed heavily on her.
After forcing herself to finish the meal, Mu Yin returned to the mirror, staring blankly at the golden void once more.
Mu Yin felt this world was like a large tissue box square and bounded. The only difference was that the edges had a curvature, something she only realized after filling the entire world with mushrooms.
A curved tissue box.
Mu Yin pondered, where exactly was this world?
She tried manipulating the mushrooms. The tiny fungi swayed gently, releasing Spores that drifted into the golden expanse. Mu Yin wanted to see through the Spores’ perspective. Though they were minuscule and could only glimpse fragments of the surroundings, even that brief vision wouldn’t last long.
This time, Mu Yin focused her sight on one of the Spores.
The Spore merged into the golden sky, spinning as if caught in a whirl. Mu Yin felt a wave of dizziness, but as the Spore gradually ascended, distancing itself from the mushrooms, the sensation eased slightly.
She saw the other Spores around her. At first, they floated together in a scattered cluster, but soon they dispersed further and further, until only this single tiny Spore remained.
I don’t know how long I drifted, but just as the energy on the Spores was about to dissipate, Mu Yin felt her vision suddenly go blank.
When she opened her eyes again, it was as if she had become a tiny Spore herself, abruptly landing on the ground.

A white chess piece was placed beside Mu Yin. Struggling to lift her head, she saw a teenager who looked about ten years old holding a chess manual, with two Go containers in front of him, filled with black and white pieces.
Mu Yin found it strange. She didn’t understand why she was seeing a stranger, but when she tried to speak, she realized she couldn’t open her mouth.
Not only could she not speak, but Mu Yin also watched as the teenager quickly transformed into a middle-aged man. Stroking his beard, he studied the chess manual in his hand, hesitated for a moment, and then placed a white piece.
In the next second, the middle-aged man turned into an elderly man. The white-haired old man looked over a hundred years old, squinting his clouded eyes as he picked up a black piece and shakily placed it on the board.
Then, he became a teenager again, cycling through these three forms, each time with a different face, making Mu Yin dizzy.
Where exactly was this place?
Why was there such a strange person playing chess in front of her?
Mu Yin strained to shift her gaze and saw a golden lotus on a nearby stone platform, continuously releasing her Spores from one of its petals.
Looking further, Mu Yin saw a similarly golden sky, though it was no longer blank. Instead, amidst layers of auspicious clouds stood palace after palace.
“Jade Capital in the heavens, twelve towers and five cities.
An immortal touches my head, binding my hair to grant eternal life.”
When Mu Yin opened her eyes again, these lines of poetry inexplicably popped into her head. She sat up from the table, staring at the now-normal mirror before her, recalling the scene she had just witnessed.
Could it be that she had truly seen the celestial realm?
It looked remarkably similar to the first layer of murals in Ah Qin’s tomb. Perhaps the royal family of the West Moon Kingdom had indeed been divine beings long ago?
Otherwise, there would be no explanation for their immortality.
Divine beings…
Mu Yin pondered. She had encountered ghosts and monsters in this world, but gods seemed to be a first.
Now, Mu Yin began to worry. If Ah Qin was truly a god, what could have happened to prevent her from returning?
The worst-case scenario was that she was already out there wreaking havoc.
Ah Qin’s purpose in coming to the Underworld was simple: she wanted all the people of the West Moon Kingdom to return to their homeland and share in eternal life with her.
But this goal was clearly time-consuming. After so many years, many souls had already reincarnated. Ah Qin needed to verify one by one whether their souls were still here, and what she lacked most now was time.
The method was straightforward. The Underworld had no shortage of unruly spirits besides Ah Qin. As long as she stirred the waters here, wouldn’t it be effortless to take the souls of her people away?
So when the disturbance broke out in the prison, no one paid it much mind. It wasn’t until those wicked spirits began escaping one after another that everyone realized the situation was getting out of hand.
Ah Qin’s dummy didn’t possess much Magical Power, but self-destruction was still within its capabilities and what Ah Qin excelled at was utilizing the power of her own soul.
She first broke through the cages on both sides, taming the two ghosts before opening the other cells. By the time the patrolling guards noticed, the cells in the deepest part of the prison had already been unlocked by Ah Qin.
When the guards saw the suppressed ghosts all escaping, their faces turned pale with terror. Before they could turn to report, the monsters imprisoned for hundreds of years surged out, slamming the guards into pulp with a single brutal strike.
Ah Qin watched the lively chaos in the Underworld, feeling quite pleased.
“Mu Yin, oh Mu Yin, let’s see if Si Lingqing will really choose you.”
Si Lingqing suddenly sensed something. She sharply turned her gaze to the wilted mushroom in her hand, where a faint golden light flickered for just an instant. Yet, in that brief moment, she had unmistakably felt Mu Yin’s presence.
Her head snapped up, brows furrowing tightly.
In the divine realm??
So, Ah Qin had hidden the West Moon Kingdom in the divine realm all along!
If not for Mu Yin’s brief emergence, Si Lingqing wouldn’t have been able to pinpoint her location. Now that she had sensed it, Si Lingqing immediately said to Hong Zhuang and the others, “I’ve found Mu Yin. Keep trying to contact her!”
Hong Zhuang was overjoyed and quickly turned to her fellow disciples, urging, “Hurry, keep reaching out to the young mistress!”
Yu Luo was also stirred with excitement. She said to Si Lingqing, “Go find her, go now!”
Even without their reminder, Si Lingqing was prepared to leave. But as she stepped out the door, she sensed a shadowy figure emerging from the darkness of the courtyard. The figure scrambled toward her and dropped to its knees with a loud thud!
“Ghost King, it’s terrible!” The shadowy figure lifted its indistinct face and cried out, “Someone has caused havoc in the Underworld, releasing millions of malevolent ghosts! You must return at once to take charge!”
The shadow’s arrival was blatant, and its cry of “Ghost King” was heard clearly by Yu Luo and Hong Zhuang. Yu Luo stared blankly at her daughter’s back, murmuring in shock, “Ah Qin, you’re…”
Si Lingqing didn’t turn around, her gaze fixed heavily on the shadow. “Are you certain of this?”
“Absolutely, Ghost King!” The shadow wailed. “The Underworld is in chaos, you must return and do something!”
Si Lingqing fell silent, clenching her fists at her sides.
She had just sensed Mu Yin’s location, and now this disaster had struck the Underworld. She was almost certain it was Ah Qin’s doing she just hadn’t expected the woman to cause such trouble at this critical moment.
If it were just Ah Qin alone, it wouldn’t be a problem. But with countless ghosts running amok, the consequences wouldn’t be limited to the Underworld.
A single misstep could plunge all three realms into calamity.
Si Lingqing’s heart grew heavier. That woman was forcing her to choose between Mu Yin and the Underworld.
“I understand.”
Pressing her lips together, Si Lingqing turned back to Yu Luo and the others. “Mother, I must return for now.”
Yu Luo, worried, asked, “But what about Mu Yin? Didn’t you just receive news of her?”
Si Lingqing closed her eyes, steadying her emotions.
“I will send someone to look into Mu Yin’s matter. Right now, there are more important things that require my attention.”
Everyone watched as Si Lingqing vanished on the spot, the dark shadow dissipating like a gust of wind, their eyes widening in shock.
“Madam!”
Hong Zhuang tightly gripped Yu Luo’s arm, asking uncertainly, “Does the young mistress’s meaning just now mean she doesn’t plan to save the young madam?”
