Mistress of the Underworld and Her Little Celestial Wife - Chapter 106
The black vortex beneath Ah Qin’s feet made it nearly impossible for her to struggle. Hong Zhuang and the others stood frozen in place, watching as rotting corpses and skeletons surged from the vortex, gripping Ah Qin’s clothes and hair, trying to drag her down into hell.
Si Lingqing flipped her hand, her nails elongating like demonic claws. Step by step, she approached Ah Qin, watching her struggle coldly before speaking: “I’ll give you one last chance. Where have you hidden Mu Yin?”
Half of Ah Qin’s body had already been dragged into the darkness. She lifted her head to look at Si Lingqing and asked in astonishment, “Just who are you?”
Though Ah Qin hadn’t fully revived, she had at least reclaimed her heartbone and could be considered a demigod. Yet the woman before her was effortlessly suppressing her.
Ah Qin remembered that while Si Lingqing was powerful, she shouldn’t have been capable of this. It seemed someone was truly furious after having their wife stolen.
Si Lingqing stared at her coldly. “If you don’t possess Divinity, then you fall under my jurisdiction.”
Ah Qin froze for a moment before realizing what Si Lingqing meant. Her eyes widened slightly, but she scoffed. “So that’s how it is. No wonder you can suppress me.”
Her tone toward Si Lingqing suddenly softened. “My lord, since you are also a god, you must understand how I feel. In the endless passage of time, how rare is it to meet someone you truly love?”
Ah Qin continued, “You have everything, and your power surpasses mine. But she is all I have.”
Si Lingqing frowned.
Ah Qin looked up at her, her eyes shimmering, and pleaded, “Could you give Mu Yin to me?”
Si Lingqing regarded her coldly. “I already told you in the Valley of Clarity, Mu Yin is mine. You are unworthy.”
Ah Qin burst into laughter at this. She said to Si Lingqing, “Then kill me. See if anyone else can find Mu Yin after I’m gone.”
She stopped struggling and allowed the ghosts to drag her deeper into the black vortex. Tilting her head slightly, she smirked at Si Lingqing and said, “Si Lingqing, in this world, only I can find her.”
Si Lingqing naturally understood what Ahh Qin left unsaid. Watching as Ah Qin was dragged into the Underworld, her mood didn’t improve. Instead, her expression darkened further.
Hong Zhuang and the others stood at a distance, unable to hear clearly what Ah Qin and Si Lingqing had discussed. But they faintly caught words like “kill me.” Hong Zhuang hurried over and stared at the now-vanished vortex on the ground. “Where is Ah Qin?”
“She went to the Underworld,” Si Lingqing replied.
“The Underworld?” Hong Zhuang looked at her in surprise. “What Underworld? The place only the dead can enter?”
Si Lingqing didn’t answer. Instead, she opened her palm, revealing a cluster of mushrooms that had somehow sprouted there.
“It’s the young mistress’ mushrooms!” Hong Zhuang recognized them immediately. Strangely, the mushrooms now seemed coated in a layer of gold, emitting a faint glow.
Si Lingqing plucked one and handed it to Hong Zhuang, her expression grim. “Assign two people to maintain contact with Mu Yin. She might send a message.”
Hong Zhuang cradled the golden mushroom and asked, “And once we make contact? What then?”
Si Lingqing fell silent. Even if they managed to contact Mu Yin, the people from the Five Skandha Sect alone wouldn’t be able to help. After some thought, she said, “Confirm whether Mu Yin is safe.”
Hong Zhuang was momentarily taken aback before nodding seriously. “I’ll take care of contacting the young mistress. You go ahead with your tasks, Eldest Miss.”
She could tell Si Lingqing was no ordinary person, so the best she could do was not to hold her back staying quietly in the background and avoiding causing trouble for Si Lingqing.
With a slight nod, Si Lingqing vanished the next second. Only after she disappeared did Hong Zhuang return to the group with the pale golden mushroom in hand, preparing for their return to the Five Skandha Sect.
Meanwhile, trapped in the West Moon Kingdom, Mu Yin felt her condition had improved considerably.
She wasn’t sure what Ah Qin had used just a few drops in her eyes had stopped the pain. Though there was still some discomfort, it was far better than before she had passed out.
She tried lifting the heavy curtains but was immediately dazzled by the light outside. Squinting, she casually tossed a mushroom out before letting the curtain fall again.
In the dim room, Mu Yin fumbled for a mirror and channeled spiritual power into it.
Soon, the mirror displayed the scene in the courtyard, the small mushroom rolled slightly, scattering countless spores.
With no wind in this place, the spores didn’t travel far. Yet, one after another, mushrooms sprouted rapidly, and Mu Yin’s vision soon extended beyond the inner city.
The transformed people seemed indifferent to the mushrooms perhaps Ah Qin hadn’t given them the concept of mushrooms so Mu Yin’s progress remained smooth.
The West Moon Kingdom was riddled with ravines, and it took Mu Yin nearly two hours for the spores to reach the city walls and begin exploring the golden world beyond.
The lack of soil posed a problem. The spores couldn’t grow on the golden ground, so Mu Yin decided to let the first batch of mushrooms die, using their decay as nourishment and makeshift soil to slowly expand outward.
This method was not only slow but also drained her spiritual power quickly. Soon, Mu Yin felt exhausted and paused for a five-minute break.
During the break, she ate a plate of pastries left on the table, drank a pot of water, and lay on the carpet, spacing out for five minutes.
When she resumed spreading the mushrooms, she realized she couldn’t sustain it for long.
Relying solely on her own power wouldn’t work. She needed another solution.
Then she remembered, on their way back from the Valley of Clarity to the Five Skandha Sect, Yu Luo had given her many high-grade Spirit Stones. Besides being used as currency, these stones also stored spiritual power. And Yu Luo had given her a lot.
Excited by the thought, Mu Yin quickly retrieved all the Spirit Stones from her Storage Bracelet. Picking one up, she confirmed she could transfer its spiritual power to her mushrooms. It was like having a spiritual power charger, no more worries about running out!
Delighted, Mu Yin immediately started using the Spirit Stones. The depleted ones vanished on their own, leaving no mess to clean up.
With this reserve of Spirit Stones, the mushrooms advanced much faster than before.
Mu Yin’s purpose in doing this was simple. She refused to believe this world had no boundaries, and wandering aimlessly alone would surely lead to her eventual death in this golden expanse. So she decided to search for an exit by spreading mushrooms like a carpet.
One mushroom becomes two, two become four, four become eight, eight become sixteen. As long as Mu Yin had enough spiritual power, even the entire Earth could be conquered by mushrooms in no time.
Moreover, Mu Yin simply didn’t believe this inexplicable place could be larger than the entire planet.
Spirit Stones were used one after another, and the mushrooms’ range expanded further, yet the scenery in the mirror remained unchanged. If not for the continuous consumption of Spirit Stones, Mu Yin would have thought she was standing still.
Time passed indeterminately. Mu Yin ate two meals when hungry and was yawning from exhaustion when an unusual black dot suddenly appeared in the mirror.
At first, Mu Yin paid no attention her vision shifted randomly. But when she switched back to one of the mushroom patches, the black dot had grown more distinct. Instantly, Mu Yin perked up.
There was something there!
Narrowing her eyes, Mu Yin pressed her whole body against the mirror. She channeled all her spiritual power toward the black dot, laying a long, straight line of mushrooms across the golden ground.
When the mushrooms reached the object, Mu Yin realized it wasn’t an exit but a corpse.
The person wore West Moon Kingdom attire, lying lifeless on the ground.
As the mushrooms grew over the body’s back, Mu Yin saw the face clearly, a middle-aged man with distinctly Western Region features. His face was as pale as paper, lips blackish-purple, and eye sockets sunken, clearly dead for a long time.
This place had no wind, sunlight, or water almost nothing. Mu Yin even suspected there might not be bacteria here, so apart from severe dehydration and shriveling, the man’s appearance remained somewhat recognizable.
Could he be one of those people Ah Qin mentioned, those who voluntarily left the West Moon Kingdom?
Mu Yin silently observed the man in the mirror for a long while before sighing softly.
A corpse dead for nearly ten thousand years wasn’t much to look at. From the moment they left the West Moon Kingdom, it was inevitable some would die along the way. This might be one Mu Yin discovered, but she doubted it would be the last.
The mushrooms skirted around the corpse, leaving a palm-width blank space around it like the chalk outlines in crime dramas. Without lingering, Mu Yin continued manipulating the mushrooms forward.
Eventually, exhaustion overwhelmed her. Her eyelids grew heavy, and her heart palpitated noticeably. Judging by her body’s signals, Mu Yin guessed she hadn’t slept for a full day and night. Finally unable to endure, she set down the Spirit Stone and went to bed.
Upon waking, Mu Yin resumed growing her mushrooms.
This time, it didn’t take long for Mu Yin to discover two more corpses, a mother and daughter. The mother held her daughter in her arms, and it seemed they had starved to death. Their bodies bore numerous wounds, and their clothes were even torn to shreds. Mu Yin didn’t know whether these injuries had been inflicted before they left the West Moon Kingdom or if they had been abused by their companions along the way.
Bypassing the corpses of the mother and daughter, Mu Yin urged the mushrooms to continue growing forward.
Ah Qin had been gone for what seemed like an unusually long time. At first, Mu Yin hadn’t noticed, but after finishing another meal, she belatedly realized that Ah Qin still hadn’t returned after so long.
Perhaps it was for the best. At least she wouldn’t be here to interfere with Mu Yin’s important work.
The mushrooms spread across the golden ground like a newly sprouted grassland. By around the third day, one side of the mushrooms encountered some kind of obstacle, and the fungi climbed upward, forming a wall of mushrooms.
They had reached the end!
Mu Yin excitedly sat up, cradling the mirror in her hands as she gazed at the golden “wall.” If not for the mushrooms scaling it, she wouldn’t have been able to tell whether it was the sky or the ground.
“Finally!” Mu Yin exclaimed with excitement. “We’ve finally reached the end!”
