Mistakenly Seen as a Scumbag by My Wife with Seven Personalities - Chapter 3
“Darling, the bar.”
“Qingwei, you spent the whole day at the company with Miss Gu today?” the assistant couldn’t resist asking curiously during the car ride.
Leaning back in her seat with her eyes closed, Qin Qingwei responded indifferently with a hum.
The two assistants exchanged a glance.
“It seems Miss Gu holds quite a high position, having her own private office,” one remarked.
In their view, given Qin Qingwei’s fame, staying at Gu Fei’s company all day without being noticed meant there had to be a discreet spot for her. This suggested Gu Fei was at a managerial level, as regular employees wouldn’t have private offices.
Qin Qingwei showed no reaction. She knew both assistants were specifically hired by her agent to monitor her and Gu Fei’s relationship.
When Qin Qingwei signed the contract with her agent in her teens, she was too young to understand the hidden traps in the terms. Desperate for work opportunities to earn money, she had no choice but to sign, agreeing to an exorbitant penalty clause for breach of contract.
Now, as Qin Qingwei’s fame grew and she entered a relationship, her agent worried she might break the contract. If she found someone wealthy enough to pay the massive penalty, the agent would lose her cash cow.
The awards ceremony started at 8 PM, with heavy rain pouring outside the venue.
Dressed in a simple gown, Qin Qingwei walked the red carpet and then sat quietly inside the hall. For some reason, she felt unusually restless tonight.
By 10 PM, the storm hadn’t let up, and the awards had reached the second-to-last category: Best Director.
The screen cycled through clips from the nominated directors’ works. Qin Qingwei watched with a cold expression, the host’s enthusiastic commentary in her ears.
When the winner of Best Director took the stage, her fingers clenched abruptly at her sides.
The screen still displayed the winner’s name: Best Director, Zhou Ping.
A middle-aged woman with a neat short haircut gave a gentle, smiling acceptance speech on stage, but Qin Qingwei couldn’t hear a word.
The name was unfamiliar, but she had remembered that face for over a decade.
As Zhou Ping moved on stage, Qin Qingwei grew more certain she hadn’t mistaken her. This woman had changed her name, transforming from a notorious scoundrel into an acclaimed director returning from overseas with honors.
Fragmented, chaotic memories flashed through her mind, and Qin Qingwei’s face turned increasingly pale, her lips almost bloodless.
“Let’s welcome Director Zhou Ping to announce the winner of tonight’s Best Lead Role.” The host’s enthusiastic voice now sounded sharp and grating. The screen began playing clips from the nominees, including Qin Qingwei, but she felt suffocated and dizzy, staggering to her feet from her seat, pale-faced.
She couldn’t let Gu Fei come here. She couldn’t let her see this person.
The black car sped through the rainy night. Gu Fei glanced at the carefully wrapped bouquet of roses on the passenger seat, a smile unconsciously curling her lips.
Ding.
Her phone on the console lit up with an incoming call Qin Qingwei.
“Qingwei? I’ll be there soon.”
“Wait for me at home beep.”
On the other end of the phone, Qin Qingwei’s hurried and suppressed voice abruptly cut off.
A wave of worry washed over Gu Fei, and she instinctively hit redial. This time, however, no one answered.
The car slowly pulled over to the side of the road. Just as Gu Fei was about to call again, she suddenly received a message from Qin Qingwei on WeChat.
The first message was a location pin labeled “Second Rose.”
The second was an equally concise sentence:
Come find me here.
Blinking in confusion, Gu Fei had a gut feeling that something unexpected must have happened on Qin Qingwei’s end.
After a moment’s thought, she opened the live stream of the awards ceremony that night, only to find the screen flooded with comments discussing Qin Qingwei’s sudden departure and refusal to accept her award.
Frowning slightly, Gu Fei opened Weibo’s trending topics and saw that the top spots were dominated by related discussions.
Pressing her lips together, Gu Fei restarted the car and headed toward the address Qin Qingwei had sent.
On the way, she contacted her secretary, instructing her to mobilize the public relations team under the Gu Group to manage the online discourse.
Twenty minutes later, Gu Fei hurriedly arrived at the entrance of the bar named “Second Rose.”
In the pouring rain, she opened her umbrella, carefully cradling the vibrant bouquet of red roses from the passenger seat.
Two tall, young women stood guard at the bar’s entrance, both wearing ornate half-face masks.
“Miss, this is a masquerade-themed bar. If you don’t have your own mask, you’re welcome to choose one here.”
“Alright.”
Feeling a bit out of place in such an environment for the first time, Gu Fei picked a silver feathered mask at random, put it on, and slowly stepped inside.
In a corner of the bar, Gu Lian, also masked, was chatting and drinking with someone.
Sitting across from Gu Lian was a woman wearing a black mask, a cigarette held between her fingers. As she exhaled, the faint scent of mint filled the air.
“Miss Gu, weren’t you supposed to bring Chairwoman Gu along to hang out? Surely you can tell, it’s her I’m really interested in.”
Taking a calm sip of her drink, Gu Lian glanced at her.
“She has a girlfriend.”
“Tch.”
The woman shrugged in disappointment, her gaze drifting idly over the distant crowd. After a few moments, she rose with a smirk.
“Never mind, I’ve found a new target.”
At the far end of her gaze stood Gu Fei, clutching a bouquet of flowers and looking around in bewilderment.
Overwhelmed by the dizzying atmosphere as soon as she entered, Gu Fei tried calling Qin Qingwei several times, but each attempt went unanswered. Even her messages received no reply.
Left with no choice, Gu Fei carefully navigated through the reveling, dancing crowd, searching for her wife.
What she didn’t know was that from the moment she stepped into the bar, a woman leaning against the second-floor railing, sipping her drink with an air of boredom, had been subtly tracking her every move.
Suddenly, someone tapped her shoulder. Gu Fei turned instinctively and met the smiling eyes of a woman in a black mask.
“Miss, bringing such beautiful flowers to a bar are they for me?”
The woman’s tone was teasing, and without hesitation, she reached out as if to take the bouquet.
“No.”
Instinctively taking a step back, Gu Fei sidestepped to avoid the woman’s approach, then pulled out her phone to tentatively call Qin Qingwei.
She had a gut feeling that Qin Qingwei must have been deeply shaken tonight otherwise, why would she arrange to meet her here?
“Oh, it’s so noisy here, how could you possibly hear anything on the phone? Come with me, let’s find a quieter place to talk.”
The woman in the black mask didn’t give up, merely watching with amusement as Gu Fei, like a lost little lamb, glanced around in confusion.
Meanwhile, during their exchange, Gu Lian, who had been observing from the corner, recognized Gu Fei.
It wasn’t because she knew Gu Fei all that well, but because of the outfit Gu Fei had been wearing at the office that evening and the familiar silver bracelet on her wrist.
Frowning slightly, Gu Lian set down her glass and stood up.
But before she could approach, Gu Yi, who had been watching from the second floor, reached Gu Fei first.
She had gone to great lengths to get Gu Fei here, she wasn’t about to let someone else whisk her away midway.
“Qing!”
Even with the mask on, Gu Fei recognized Qin Qingwei the moment she appeared.
Relieved, Gu Fei instinctively smiled and walked toward her, leaving the woman in the black mask completely ignored.
“What’s this? Going in for a kiss as soon as we meet? So clingy.”
With a light laugh, Gu Yi, also wearing a black mask, took the flowers from Gu Fei’s hand and, under her surprised and bashful gaze, gently kissed her on the lips.
Under the complicated stares of Gu Lian and the woman in the black mask just a few steps away, Gu Fei’s cheeks flushed pink as she obediently let Gu Yi lead her further inside.
“Qingwei, you!”
Staring at the woman before her, dressed in a striking red dress and exuding an unfamiliar aura, Gu Fei felt unusually flustered.
Tonight’s Qin Qingwei seemed different.
“Take the flowers to my room.”
While Gu Fei was still figuring out how to start the conversation, Gu Yi had already handed the bouquet to a server.
“Right away, boss.”
Watching the server walk away with the flowers, Gu Fei was taken aback.
“Is she prettier than me?”
By the bar, Gu Yi playfully lifted Gu Fei’s chin with her fingertips, forcing the dazed Gu Fei to focus her gaze entirely on her.
“No.”
Gu Fei shook her head instinctively, her cheeks slightly flushed as she answered earnestly.
Chuckling softly, Gu Yi took her hand and led her to the center of the dance floor.
“Dance with me.”
In the middle of the dance floor, the hazy lights shifted constantly, and the pounding music reverberated through their chests.
The air was thick with the heady mix of alcohol and perfume.
Gu Fei frowned, feeling uncomfortable.
Standing opposite her, Gu Yi kept her eyes fixed on Gu Fei’s face, observing her every reaction with keen interest.
“What’s wrong?”
One hand lightly tapped the tip of Gu Fei’s slightly furrowed nose, while the other wrapped naturally and intimately around her neck.
Her tense body relaxed a little, and Gu Fei instinctively leaned closer so close that the crisp scent of roses, uniquely belonging to the woman before her, filled her senses. Only then did she slowly ease up.
“Qingwei!”
She murmured the name with affection, wanting to ask about the incident at the event earlier and the reason she’d been brought here tonight.
But before she could speak, the woman in front of her cut her off.
“Here, you can’t call me Qin Qingwei.”
Their bodies drew close and then apart with the gentle rhythm of the music, moving to its soft cadence. Under Gu Fei’s bewildered yet captivated gaze, Gu Yi lazily smiled and pressed her chest against Gu Fei’s.
Their bodies were so close that Gu Fei could easily see the teasing and tenderness in the other’s eyes through the mask.
It felt like Qin Qingwei, yet somehow not.
“Then what should I call you?” she asked instinctively, following the other’s lead.
“Gu Yi.”
Her compliance pleased Gu Yi, who whispered the name almost directly into Gu Fei’s ear.
“Gu Yi?”
“Yes.”
“The same ‘Gu’ as in Gu Fei?”
Gu Yi’s lips curled into a light smile, surprised by her cleverness.
So clever and so docile, it made her reluctant to let go.
The faint glimmer in Gu Yi’s eyes felt like encouragement, filling Gu Fei with both delight and a hint of shyness.
“And which ‘Yi’ is it?” she asked softly.
Gu Yi held her gaze steadily, leaning compliantly into her embrace, her eyes brimming with unspoken confidence and amusement.
“Carry me to the second floor, and I’ll tell you.”
