Mistaken ‘O’ is a Crazy Gorgeous Boss - Chapter 7
In the afternoon, the fickle weather brought another drizzle.
At 3:10 PM, while reading in the library, Qu Zhen received a call from the HR department of SCV Company. The woman on the other end of the line spoke in a gentle tone, informing her that the interview time had changed and requesting her to arrive at the company for the interview before 4:30 PM.
Qu Zhen hurried back to her dorm to change into more formal attire and freshened up a bit before taking the subway to Huixin District, where SCV was located.
Following the map directions after exiting the station, she arrived at the company building. Gazing at the well-dressed professionals around her, she glanced at her reflection in the glass.
Four years of university had passed in the blink of an eye. The choices of her four roommates had all been completely different: Jiang Cheng continued her studies in law, Yang Shumeng received a job offer at a law firm through her advisor’s recommendation, and Zhou Yun had already transitioned into a new field through an internal referral, signing with a fairly good listed company.
Only she had chosen to pursue a career in legal affairs.
Pursing her lips, she noticed other interviewees walking down the hallway, lowered her head, and took the elevator to the 12th floor.
There were many people there for the interview. By the time she arrived, the line had already stretched to nearly twenty people. Standing at the very end, Qu Zhen first surveyed the interior environment. As the people ahead of her began chatting, she lowered her gaze to her phone.
It was 4:15 PM. She opened her chat history with Shen Zhikou, the last message was still from their meeting at the south gate the previous night.
Throughout the entire day, Shen Zhikou hadn’t sent her a single message.
Her ears drooped slightly. Under the influence of the temporary mark, Qu Zhen couldn’t quite articulate what she was feeling. After hesitating repeatedly, she gave up the idea of disturbing Shen Zhikou and decided to wait until 5 PM, when Shen Zhikou got off work, to send her a message.
Outside the window, the drizzling rain intensified, raindrops tracing countless watery trails on the glass.
Although the line of waiting interviewees was long, the interviews themselves didn’t seem to take much time. Roughly forty minutes later, it was Qu Zhen’s turn.
Inside the room sat three interviewers. When faced with professional questions, Qu Zhen answered flawlessly. It wasn’t until the HR interviewer on the right asked why she hadn’t chosen to work at a law firm but instead opted for a legal affairs role that Qu Zhen hesitated briefly.
She had prepared an answer for this question beforehand, yet she still hesitated. For just a moment, she quickly gave a very formal, faultless response.
After leaving the interview room, the smile on Qu Zhen’s face gradually faded.
Reflecting on her answer to the final question, she felt dissatisfied. That momentary hesitation, she thought, might cost her many opportunities.
Standing in the spacious lobby after exiting the elevator, watching the bustling elites around her, a sudden wave of sadness washed over Qu Zhen.
Just as she had hesitated during the interview.
But this sadness didn’t last long, because she soon received a call from Shen Zhikou.
The tone on the other end of the line was different from its usual coolness, it sounded pitiful and helpless amid the evening downpour. She heard Shen Zhikou say:
“Can you come over?” Shen Zhikou’s voice trembled slightly. “There are three strange people at my doorstep. I… I’m really scared.”
Xinyu Garden was an old residential complex with rather lax property management. Recalling what her roommate Jiang Cheng had mentioned that morning about a suspicious person near the library, Qu Zhen’s umbrella was abruptly blown away by a strong gust of wind. Without a second thought, she replied:
“Sister, I’ll be right there.”
Huixin District was very close to Ling’an District, and Qu Zhen quickly hailed a taxi to rush to her destination.
She didn’t hang up the phone, continuously soothing Shen Zhikou’s emotions over the call while concealing her own anxiety, calmly instructing Shen Zhikou on what to do.
As the car sped through the rain, the driver in the front seat couldn’t help but glance up at the rearview mirror. Although the alpha in the backseat was calmly reassuring the person on the other end of the line, she had also been subtly urging the driver to go faster and was even willing to double the fare.
The last time she’d encountered such a situation was five years ago, when she’d driven a beta rushing home to accompany their partner during childbirth.
“The security guards are here,” Shen Zhikou’s voice was soft, with a noticeable tremble. “They… are negotiating now.”
Hearing this, Qu Zhen breathed a sigh of relief.
On such a heavily rainy day, the police response time was likely slower than that of the property’s security team. Moreover, Xinyu Garden was quite far from the local police station.
Outside the window, the sky was gloomy with pouring rain, but inside the car, Qu Zhen was so anxious she was sweating. The words Jiang Cheng had said that morning echoed repeatedly in her mind. She was deeply worried about Shen Zhikou’s safety and even began to blame herself for being negligent. She knew Shen Zhikou was still under the influence of the temporary mark, yet she had allowed her to stay home alone.
Wiping the thin sheen of sweat from her forehead, she said gently, “Okay. Sister, don’t go outside yet. I’ll be there in ten minutes.”
“Okay.” Shen Zhikou paused. “It’s raining heavily. Please be careful too.”
They continued to keep the call connected. Every second felt exceptionally long at that moment, and for someone like Qu Zhen, who took responsibility very seriously, the wait felt like torture.
When they arrived at the destination, Qu Zhen swiftly unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car. The driver in the front seat couldn’t resist sighing with admiration.
“Young lady, you’re really good to your girlfriend. Make sure to keep treating her well like this in the future.”
Qu Zhen had no time to explain. She nodded in thanks, got out of the car, and dashed into the rain. The call had ended a minute before she arrived. Qu Zhen entered through the north gate, pea-sized raindrops mercilessly pelting her body. The towering buildings beneath the overcast clouds stood like majestic mountains, yet Qu Zhen weaved through them without letting the downpour hinder her progress.
Upon reaching the first floor of Building B8, the elevator on the right dinged just as she arrived. Two security guards emerged with three tall, intimidatingly dressed individuals, and they crossed paths with Qu Zhen.
They didn’t linger, and Qu Zhen frowned as she glanced at them before stepping into the elevator.
Rather than questioning the security guards, her top priority now was to see the Omega she had temporarily marked as quickly as possible. The elevator ascended swiftly, going straight to the 16th floor. Qu Zhen strode purposefully and soon knocked on the door of Unit 1602.
The walnut-colored door opened from the inside. Qu Zhen, drenched and disheveled, looked utterly miserable. Yet the impeccably dressed Shen Zhikou, upon seeing her, leaned in and embraced her.
Warmth met cold, like a bonfire suddenly ignited in the snow.
Qu Zhen stood frozen in place. The soft Omega in her arms was like a stray cat on campus, retracting its cold, sharp edges out of fear, obediently and gently holding onto her. A faint scent of lily of the valley drifted into Qu Zhen’s nostrils. Sensing that the Omega was trying hard to suppress her trembling, Qu Zhen raised her right hand and hugged her back.
“I-I’m sorry.”
The negligent alpha was like a helpless and sorrowful puppy, his ears drooping, his amber eyes filled with apology: “Sister, I didn’t do well enough. I’ll change.”
“From now on, I’ll always come home to be with you.”
