Mistaken ‘O’ is a Crazy Gorgeous Boss - Chapter 33
The next day, after finishing morning classes, Qu Zhen followed Yang Shumeng back to their dorm.
She waited until half past twelve, when Jiang Cheng, who returned to the dorm for a nap every noon, finally arrived. Half an hour earlier, both Yang Shumeng and Zhou Yun had coincidentally gone out for errands, leaving only the two of them in the dorm.
Seeing Qu Zhen, Jiang Cheng was a bit surprised. “Xiao Zhen, have you eaten yet?”
“Yes, I have. Sister Yun and Xiao Meng both had things to attend to.”
“Oh, they mentioned it to me this morning.” Jiang Cheng put down her backpack and sighed, looking up. “I’m so tired. Just hearing the words ‘library’ makes me feel suffocated. Help, can I really get into grad school?”
Among the four roommates, Yang Shumeng has the best grades, followed by Qu Zhen, Jiang Cheng, and Zhou Yun, who had no interest in their major at all. Jiang Cheng had given up her spot in the university’s guaranteed graduate program, determined to aim for her dream school.
Qu Zhen placed the dessert and milk tea she had prepared on Jiang Cheng’s desk, encouraging her, “You’re amazing. Just do your best and believe in yourself!”
“Wah, okay.” Jiang Cheng looked touched. “Zhenzhen, you’re so sweet to bring me these even though you just got back.”
Qu Zhen, who needed a favor, stayed silent. She waited until Jiang Cheng had happily eaten most of the treats and paused to look at her tablet before cautiously stepping closer to stand by Jiang Cheng’s desk.
“What’s up?” Jiang Cheng looked up. “Zhenzhen, is there something you need?”
Qu Zhen hesitated, at a loss for words.
She rarely asked others for help, let alone sought favors. But aside from Jiang Cheng, she couldn’t think of anyone else to turn to.
“There’s something I’d like to ask for your help with.”
“Of course, what is it?” Jiang Cheng was always eager to help and treated her three roommates especially well. “Just tell me. As long as it’s something I can do, I’ll definitely help you out.”
Qu Zhen thanked her first. “Thank you, Sis Cheng.”
“You’re welcome. So, what is it?”
“I wanted to ask if you know any hospital specialists who are familiar with Hormonal Imbalance Syndrome? Preferably those specializing in research on this condition.”
Jiang Cheng came from a well-off family primarily involved in the medical equipment industry. Two years ago, they had even opened a private hospital.
Hearing the name of the condition, she frowned and asked, “Zhenzhen, why are you suddenly asking about this? Is your health…”
“It’s for my partner,” Qu Zhen explained. “I’ve looked up a lot of information online and consulted some doctors, but most only have a superficial understanding. So, I wanted to ask if you know any experts in this field. I’ll pay, of course, whatever the cost, I won’t shortchange a penny.”
From the day she met Shen Zhikou, Qu Zhen had researched all available online materials about Hormonal Imbalance Syndrome. She had studied them carefully and in detail, but after nearly a month of interaction, she realized Shen Zhikou’s condition seemed far more severe than she had initially imagined.
Remaining indifferent was impossible and wrong.
Both Shen Zhikou and she were ordinary people. After much thought, she decided to seek help from Jiang Cheng, who had broader connections, to gain a deeper understanding of the illness and related matters.
“There is one! There happens to be a doctor at my mom’s hospital who specializes in this area. She’s quite accomplished in this field. I’ll ask my mom about it later and then send you the doctor’s contact information.”
A relieved smile spread across Qu Zhen’s face, her eyes filled with gratitude. “Thank you, Sis Cheng. I really appreciate it!”
“It’s alright, I wasn’t sure if she could help you either.” Jiang Cheng asked with concern, “Xiao Zhen, how is your partner’s health? Is your compatibility high?”
She had heard of this extremely rare disease and knew its condition was complex, with very strict treatment requirements. Previously, she had read a report at her family’s hospital showing that in the past twenty years, not a single patient with hormonal dysregulation syndrome had survived. Unable to find a compatible partner, they had all eventually succumbed to the torment of the illness.
Qu Zhen’s anxious heart settled: “My sister said it’s very high. I can effectively soothe her when her symptoms flare up.”
Jiang Cheng, who had been frowning deeply, broke into a smile and clapped her hands: “That’s really wonderful! Congratulations!”
In the cozy dorm room, the two shared a smile, and the weight pressing on Qu Zhen’s heart gradually eased.
…
Jiang Cheng was a highly efficient person of action. After getting the doctor’s contact information from her mother, she immediately passed it on to Qu Zhen.
Dr. Fang was gentle and approachable, generously sharing many research insights with Qu Zhen in detail. She also informed her of the precautions to take in daily life and how to provide more effective soothing, among other things.
However, since each person’s condition is different, Dr. Fang suggested that Qu Zhen bring her partner to the hospital for a comprehensive examination to develop a targeted treatment plan.
Qu Zhen took Dr. Fang’s advice to heart and expressed her gratitude. She spent the entire Thursday buried in studying the 1GB data package Dr. Fang had sent her.
The content was so extensive that she barely managed a quick bowl of instant noodles for lunch. After delving deeper into the material, she blushed deeply, realizing that the soothing methods she had learned before were like scratching an itch through a boot, aside from temporary marking by biting the gland, the other methods were largely ineffective.
Knowing this, when she video-called Shen Zhikou that evening, Qu Zhen found herself unable to look at her for too long.
“Sister, what time will you be back tomorrow?”
On the screen, Shen Zhikou was clearly busy. She wore thin silver-rimmed glasses, her black silk pajamas tied snugly. Her gaze remained fixed on the computer screen as she multitasked, responding to Qu Zhen.
“I’ll be back to Xinyu Garden around ten tomorrow night,” she said. “It’ll be cold tomorrow, and it might rain again. I’m catching a ride back with a colleague, so you don’t need to come pick me up.”
Qu Zhen suppressed her thoughts: “Alright, I’ll wait for you at home.”
“Mm, see you tomorrow night.”
“See you tomorrow night.”
Qu Zhen was like an eager puppy, stealing glances at Shen Zhikou before lowering her head shyly. Shen Zhikou, taking a moment to glance at the little alpha, removed her glasses and asked softly, “What’s wrong?”
Qu Zhen shook her head: “Nothing.”
“It’s not good for little ones to lie.”
Hearing this, Qu Zhen’s cheeks flushed. She looked up and met Shen Zhikou’s gaze, admitting softly, “I miss you a little, sister.”
As if to find an excuse to cover her embarrassment, she added, “I’ve been studying very seriously lately. It might be hard to explain over video, so we can talk in detail when you get back.”
“Alright.”
A smile bloomed in Shen Zhikou’s eyes, bright as stars: “Zhenzhen, you’re not the only one missing someone.”
Qu Zhen understood the hidden meaning, her cheeks flushing even more deeply.
“Then… see you tomorrow night, sister.”
“Mm, rest early. Goodnight.”
“Goodnight.”
After ending the call, Qu Zhen buried herself under the covers, raising her warm right hand to feel her heartbeat growing louder and faster. For some reason, she pursed her lips and smiled, waiting until the smile faded before pulling out her tablet to continue studying.
…
On Friday, after finishing her morning classes at school, Qu Zhen returned home and thoroughly cleaned the entire apartment. She restocked the depleted refrigerator, placed fresh lilies in the vase, and made sure every corner of the living room was spotless and gleaming. Sitting on the living room sofa, she continued studying while reviewing for the following week’s final exams.
But perhaps because Shen Zhikou was about to return home, her focus was nowhere near as sharp as the day before. She found herself glancing at the wall clock every hour.
In the evening, Shen Zhikou mentioned she had already eaten dinner before boarding the plane, so Qu Zhen only prepared a nourishing tonic soup for her. Worried about a repeat of the unexpected situation during Shen Zhikou’s first business trip, Qu Zhen kept checking her phone after 8 p.m., afraid she might miss a message from her.
This time, however, Shen Zhikou was punctual. At 10 p.m., the doorbell rang, and she appeared right on time outside the door. The travel-weary Omega, when embraced by the Alpha, wrapped her arms around her in return and even gently pinched the Alpha’s soft cheek.
“Sister.”
“Mm,” Shen Zhikou replied. “Could you help me take off my scarf?”
“O-okay.”
Qu Zhen lowered her head to undo the scarf, her heart in turmoil. “Sister, it’s done.”
“Thank you for your hard work.” Shen Zhikou walked inside. “The cabin smelled quite strong on the flight tonight. I’m going to take a shower first.”
“Mm, mm.”
Qu Zhen watched Shen Zhikou’s figure disappear down the hallway before withdrawing her gaze. Then, she picked up her clothes and went to the outer bathroom to wash up.
There was no lingering intimacy between them. After making sure Shen Zhikou drank the tonic soup and carefully blow-drying her hair, they both retreated to the master bedroom.
Before getting into bed, Qu Zhen carefully examined Shen Zhikou’s hands, confirming that the burn had completely healed before finally relaxing.
The living room lights were turned off, and only a warm-toned nightlight remained lit in the master bedroom. They chatted for a while until Qu Zhen noticed the person beside her growing increasingly drowsy, her voice softening until she could barely keep her eyes open. Qu Zhen tucked her in and whispered, “Goodnight.”
“Goodnight.”
Hearing Shen Zhikou’s response, Qu Zhen closed her eyes.
Time slipped away quietly, the warm light in the room gradually taking on an orange hue in the darkness.
After what felt like an eternity, Qu Zhen suddenly opened her eyes, her gaze clear and completely awake. She swallowed nervously, her cheeks beginning to burn as she slowly and quietly turned onto her side, fixing her gaze intently on the person beside her.
Bathed in the soft, warm light, the delicate-browed Omega looked as beautiful as a sleeping fairy-tale princess.
In the tranquil space, this slightly sacred and profoundly beautiful scene made Qu Zhen’s heart race at an abnormally frantic pace. As she leaned closer, her palms grew damp with sweat, and her cheeks flushed like crimson camellias in late spring.
Her heart pounded like a drum. Trapped between hesitation and desire, Qu Zhen’s eyes remained fixed on the Omega’s closed lips.
Time seemed to silently urge her on. This was the crucial moment, the perfect time for the temporary mark’s influence to fade, and the moment to test whether what she felt was genuine attraction. Biting her lip nervously, two conflicting voices wrestled within her. In the end, the urge to confirm her suspicions overpowered the voice of caution.
Qu Zhen summoning the greatest courage of her life, she leaned close to Shen Zhikou’s ear and whispered softly.
“Sister, may I kiss you?”
Knowing that Shen Zhikou wouldn’t respond at this moment, she still politely insisted on asking three times.
“Sister, may I give you a kiss?”
“May I kiss you, sister?”
Her face had flushed a deep coral red, for what she was about to do felt almost like a transgression to her. Her voice grew softer and softer, like a downy feather brushing gently by.
“Sorry, sister.”
“Forgive me…”
“I’ll apologize properly when sister wakes up.”
With that, she tilted her head and pressed a kiss to Shen Zhikou’s right cheek.
Her lips didn’t pull away immediately. She blinked slowly, her palm resting over her pounding heart, feeling the strange intensity there.
The heart, symbol of life itself, felt ready to leap out of her chest, thump-thump, thump-thump… beating even faster than a frantic rabbit.
Warmth spread through every limb. Qu Zhen gradually shifted leftward, bringing her lips to meet Shen Zhikou’s. The soft, warm sensation snapped every tightly strung thread in her mind. Overwhelmed by dizzying pleasure, she lifted her head, took a soft gasp, and whispered another apology. No sooner had the words faded than she bowed her head again to capture Shen Zhikou’s lips.
It wasn’t a fleeting touch but repeated gentle presses, light as a dragonfly skimming water or a butterfly fluttering its wings, restrained by nervousness and the fear of waking her.
Yet even so, the bone-deep pleasure nearly drowned her.
She couldn’t help craving more.
Just as she was about to lose control, tempted to trespass further and part Shen Zhikou’s lips, the voice of caution, previously suppressed by urgency, resurfaced. Returning rationality warned her to stop immediately and withdraw, or she would cross a line entirely.
Her dark, feathery lashes fluttered incessantly. Just as Qu Zhen resolved to pull away, her lower lip was suddenly nipped lightly, and her right hand was grasped firmly by Shen Zhikou, who had awakened at some unknown moment.
