Mistaken ‘O’ is a Crazy Gorgeous Boss - Chapter 27
The white hair clip obscured the WeChat name and the top-right corner of the profile picture. From Qu Zhen’s perspective, the visible part of the profile picture looked strikingly similar to Z’s new avatar.
But as soon as she spoke, she realized her request might have been somewhat intrusive. Just as she lowered her head to backtrack, Shen Zhikou had already handed the tablet over to her.
“Here.”
At this point, Qu Zhen couldn’t back down. “Thank you, Sister.”
Without the hair clip blocking the view, she could now see the entire WeChat profile page clearly. She glanced at Shen Zhikou like an eager puppy eyeing a ball, then tapped to enlarge the profile picture.
At first glance, it had indeed looked very similar.
But upon closer inspection, it was clearly not the same image.
Z’s avatar featured only a bright, solitary moon against an empty backdrop. In contrast, this picture showed a night sky with two faintly twinkling stars, the moon seemingly hidden behind clouds, and a peculiar symbol in the top-right corner.
Moreover, the WeChat name beside it was completely different.
Qu Zhen didn’t linger any longer and returned the tablet to its owner. “Here you go, Sister.”
“Finished looking?”
“Yes.” The tips of Qu Zhen’s ears flushed slightly. “Sorry, Sister. I must have been seeing things. When I saw your WeChat avatar just now, I thought it belonged to a friend of mine.”
Shen Zhikou explained, “I have several WeChat accounts. This one is mainly for work and communicating with clients. In daily life, I primarily use the account I added you on.”
Qu Zhen completely understood, as she herself had two WeChat accounts and two QQ accounts. This reminded her that she still hadn’t added Shen Zhikou on QQ.
She opened her most frequently used QQ account and asked to add Shen Zhikou as a friend.
“Sister, let’s add each other on QQ too.”
“Alright.”
Shen Zhikou switched the tablet screen to display her personal QQ QR code. Qu Zhen scanned it, only to find that the contact appearing before her was already in her friends list.
The note read: [Kindhearted Sister]
Qu Zhen’s eyes widened in astonishment, a mix of disbelief and overwhelming joy surging within her.
‘Kindhearted Sister’ was a benevolent stranger she had encountered during the second semester of her freshman year.
At the start of that semester, she had originally planned to take the direct subway line to campus. However, due to needing to help Jiang Cheng pick up something from Minshan Road, among other reasons, she ended up switching to Line 5.
Back then, following her phone’s map directions, she dragged her heavy suitcase to Minshan Road. Before she could even enter the store, she was confronted by two pickpockets.
With few pedestrians around, the taller pickpocket tripped her while the shorter one swiftly snatched her phone and suitcase.
Although she usually exercised and maintained decent physical fitness, facing two more physically capable alphas, she was quickly outrun and left behind.
Having only been in Haicheng for half a year at that time, she was unfamiliar with many areas, especially Minshan Road, which she was visiting for the first time. She wandered through the streets for what felt like ages, growing increasingly frustrated and disheartened, both physically and emotionally exhausted. When she finally circled back to the store, she found all her belongings placed neatly and intact right where she had left them.
The beta shop owner told her that it was a group of strangers who had come for a team-building trip who had retrieved it for her. The person who came in to return the luggage was an Omega, wearing a mask, who also left a contact number and asked her to pass along the message to check if anything was missing.
Qu Zhen showed a delighted smile.
After retrieving her things and taking a taxi home, she sent a text message to the Omega who had left their contact information. She informed them that all her belongings were accounted for, expressed her gratitude, and then tactfully asked if they had time for a meal together.
Since all her important items were in that suitcase, she was immensely grateful to the person who had helped retrieve it.
However, her first invitation was declined due to the other party’s busy work schedule. The second invitation happened to coincide with their business trip.
Communicating solely through text messages was inconvenient, so after some thought, Qu Zhen politely asked if they could add each other on QQ. After scanning the QR code and adding the other as a friend, she extended a third invitation.
By then, a month had passed since the incident on Minshan Road, and her third invitation was still politely declined.
Worried that her gratitude might be causing the other person trouble, and considering their genuinely busy schedule, Qu Zhen eventually decided to purchase a virtual gift on QQ and send it to them as a token of appreciation. Over time, the memory of this incident gradually faded from her mind.
Little did she expect that fate would bring them together again in such an unexpected way.
Qu Zhen was extremely excited. Her bright, almond-shaped eyes fixed intently on Shen Zhikou as she recounted the entire story. She was so overjoyed that she felt like hugging the person in front of her.
“I never imagined it was you, sister!” Qu Zhen chattered excitedly. “Back then, I even thought about asking for your address to order you some afternoon tea or an online gift, but I was afraid it might be too intrusive or impolite. So instead, I recharged my QQ account and bought you the prettiest virtual gift in the mall.”
“What an incredible coincidence.”
The happy puppy seemed to wag her fluffy tail. “Sister, knowing that it was you all along makes me so incredibly happy.”
Her demeanor made Shen Zhikou’s fingers itch even more, almost uncontrollably tempted to put that headband on the silly little puppy.
“Mm.” Shen Zhikou’s lips curved upward. “What a coincidence indeed.”
Qu Zhen grinned, her eyes crinkling. “Yes! Thank you, sister. I’m really, truly grateful. If I had lost those things back then, it would have been a huge disaster.”
At that time, online scams were rampant, especially targeting college students. Her bag contained her most important documents, and she didn’t even dare to imagine what would have happened if they had really been lost.
“You’re welcome.”
In contrast to Qu Zhen’s excitement, Shen Zhikou remained much calmer, with only a faint trace of a smile visible at the corners of her eyes and brows.
Caught up in her surprise, Qu Zhen found it hard to suppress the impulse welling up inside her.
She was genuinely overjoyed that the kindhearted sister and Shen Zhikou were the same person. This happiness couldn’t be described by any simple emotion, it only strengthened her belief that meeting Shen Zhikou seemed like a fateful encounter destined by the universe.
As her heart raced, her affection meter quietly rose a little further.
After wrestling with herself internally and mustering enough reasons to justify her actions, Qu Zhen lifted her head and asked with pleading eyes.
“Even though you’ve already said I’m allowed to do that, I still… I still want to ask properly. Right now, I really want to hug you. May I give you a hug?”
“Alright.” Shen Zhikou replied leisurely. “But you said there should be give and take. So, before the hug, can you agree to one request of mine?”
“Of course,” Qu Zhen replied with a smile. “I always keep my promises.”
The curve of Shen Zhikou’s lips deepened, her gaze lingering on the hairband. “Zhenzhen, this hairband is for you. I want to see you wear it. Can you fulfill this request?”
Qu Zhen didn’t hesitate.
Though this wasn’t what she had originally envisioned, at this moment, she found herself utterly incapable of refusing Shen Zhikou, let alone disappointing her expectations.
She swept her freshly dried, long black hair behind her shoulders and deftly fastened the hairband. Two fluffy white puppy ears perched atop her head, and she looked eagerly at Shen Zhikou, truly resembling a Samoyed wagging its tail for a reward.
Shen Zhikou finally broke into a smile, her jade-like beauty radiant as spring blossoms, her charm intoxicating like a drunken crabapple under the sun.
Qu Zhen blinked dazedly, intoxicated into a bewildered puppy.
A moment later, the consequence of indulging the puppy was having her slender waist completely encircled and her shoulder and neck buried in the puppy’s nuzzling. Shen Zhikou nearly lost all control over her own body.
“Sister.”
“Hmm.”
Qu Zhen held onto her tightly, unwilling to let go. “Can I hug you a little longer?”
It was only at this moment that she realized just how clingy she had become. But she truly wanted to hold Shen Zhikou a while longer, her senses enveloped by the lingering scent of lily of the valley. She chose to follow her heart.
“Hmm.”
Qu Zhen asked softly, “Sister, why did you buy this for me?”
“I wanted to see you wear it.”
In the past, Qin Huan had also enjoyed dressing up a young Qu Zhen like this, but as time passed and she grew older, Qu Zhen hadn’t worn a hairband in many years.
Perhaps it was the perfect atmosphere that prompted the silly puppy, topped with a question mark, to turn into a hundred thousand whys.
Qu Zhen murmured almost inaudibly, “Why did you want to see me wear this, sister?”
“Because-” Shen Zhikou said unhurriedly, “Zhenzhen is very cute. Wearing this, you’re even cuter than I imagined.”
Qu Zhen’s face instantly flushed a deep red, like a ripened cherry.
She couldn’t understand what connection she had with cuteness. Throughout her life, she had never seemed associated with that word. Aside from her mother, no one had ever used it to praise her.
Hearing Shen Zhikou describe her like this so suddenly made her shyness intensify, and she tightened her embrace around the other’s slender waist.
“What’s wrong?” Shen Zhikou, trapped in her arms, reached up to stroke the shy puppy’s ears. “Don’t you like it?”
Qu Zhen shook her head, the puppy ears swaying along with the motion.
It wasn’t that she disliked it; she just felt that Shen Zhikou’s indulgence was making her increasingly greedy, as if she were the one suffering from pheromone dysregulation syndrome.
Holding hands and hugging… it wasn’t enough. She
wanted to kiss Shen Zhikou.
A kiss that would be reciprocated.
This thought filled Qu Zhen with acute embarrassment. She didn’t dare dwell on it, hastily attributing it to the effects of the temporary mark.
But when her eyes met Shen Zhikou’s, a craving potent enough to start a prairie fire overwhelmed her rational control.
“Sister.”
In a voice so soft it was almost inaudible, she broached the intimate subject.
“Can I kiss you?” she pleaded quietly. “A kiss where you respond to me. Can I, sister?”
