Marry First, Love Later With The White Cat Princess - Chapter 89
Meanwhile, on Yellow Leaf Hill.
Watching the giant cat lunging toward her, Zhuolan Baihua’s fear finally overrode her murderous intent and hatred for the demon race. Summoning her final strength, she leaped and rolled down the slope.
She never expected the witch doctor to take that sword strike for the cat demon, nor did she expect the witch doctor to die. Least of all, she never imagined that after the witch doctor’s death, the cat demon would suddenly fall into a wild frenzy, her demonic aura exploding nearly a hundredfold.
Danzhu Yangbu was caught off guard for just a split second before the cat’s sharp claws pierced through her Dantian. Before she could even employ her Blood Governing Secret Arts, she fell into the cat’s maw.
Zhuolan Baihua fled for her life. Danzhu Yangbu, who was stronger than her, had already been eaten; if she didn’t escape, she would be next.
However, Lianyi quickly overtook her. A single claw strike to her back shattered her bones and crushed her internal organs. She collapsed on the ground, immobile, watching helplessly as the giant cat stepped beside her.
“You should go and keep A-Yun company, too…”
The gentle female voice spoke slowly. Knowing her end was near, Zhuolan Baihua mustered her last strength to condense a sword and strike at the giant cat.
To her horror, the sharp blade was easily pinned down by a paw, and her arm was torn away along with it. Zhuolan Baihua let out a blood-curdling scream as the giant cat lowered its head, staring at the sword for a moment. A flash of sorrow flickered within those crimson eyes.
She did not escape. Just like Danzhu Yangbu, her Dantian was pierced, her inner core destroyed, and her body swallowed whole by the giant cat.
Meng Nie, who was rushing up the hill, froze for a few seconds upon witnessing this scene. Recognizing the giant cat as Lianyi, she hurriedly ran to her side. “Kitty, what happened to you?! This murderous aura on you…”
Before she could finish, Lianyi, who had been blinded by bloodlust, suddenly collapsed and began to whimper helplessly.
“…Kitty?” Meng Nie knelt down cautiously, stroking the fur matted with blood and dust, wondering what could have happened during her absence to cause such profound grief.
Qi Ran arrived as well. Seeing Lianyi in this state, she knit her brows tightly.
“This child is truly devoted, she actually dared to swallow a God’s soul. She’s completely fearless of death!” Si Yangshen (the God Protector) began chattering in her sea of consciousness again. “Quick, go over and place your hand on her. I must help her, or she will die.”
As Si Yangshen spoke, Lianyi closed her eyes, her body heaving as she struggled to endure the agony.
Qi Ran didn’t dare waste time. Kneeling beside Lianyi, she said to Meng Nie: “Go up the hill and look after Lady Liu’s… corpse.”
“Liu Fenyun is dead?!” Meng Nie was struck with shock. “How could she die?!”
“It’s a long story. Go now,” Qi Ran replied shortly, placing her hand on the white cat’s belly so that Si Yangshen could use her body as a conduit to alleviate Lianyi’s pain.
The Awakening
Meng Nie climbed the hill in a daze, only to hear Tushan Shuo let out a cry of surprise. When she hurried over, she saw Liu Fenyun, who had been lying in a pool of blood, struggling to sit up.
The woman looked around blankly. Seeing Meng Nie, a look of surprise crossed her eyes. “General Meng? Did you bring me here? Why did you dump me in the middle of all this blood?”
But Meng Nie didn’t dare recognize her. She stopped ten paces away, eyeing her suspiciously. “Who… are you?”
Qi Ran had said Liu Fenyun was dead, and even Liu Fenyun’s cat was mourning like that. Liu Fenyun should be dead. Meng Nie refused to see this person as the same Liu Fenyun.
“You don’t recognize me?” The woman was stunned. “I’m Liu Fenyun! Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten me after just a few years of military campaigning?”
Under the watchful gazes of “Liu Fenyun,” Yin Sa, and Tushan Shuo, Meng Nie remained silent for a few seconds before saying: “You must be Chongyun, Lady Chong’s daughter.”
She had heard Qi Ran mention the matter of Gods attaching their souls to bodies to undergo tribulations. At the time, Qi Ran had been very cryptic, only hinting that the current Liu Fenyun was not the original, but a God undergoing a trial.
The woman let out a soft “Eh?” of surprise. “Hey, how do you remember that name? Didn’t I say long ago that everyone should call me Liu Fenyun from now on…”
Hearing this, Meng Nie was certain of her identity. Yin Sa and Tushan Shuo, however, were left completely bewildered.
“Is Fellow Daoist Liu suffering from memory loss?” Yin Sa asked, confused.
“It’s not memory loss, and I don’t quite know how to explain it,” Meng Nie sighed. “For now, just call her ‘Chongyun.’ The Liu Fenyun you spoke with before is likely dead.”
She pulled aside Chongyun’s outer robe. Ignoring the woman’s cry of protest, she discovered that the clothing near her Dantian was shredded and soaked in dried blood, consistent with a fatal piercing wound, yet Chongyun’s skin was perfectly intact and unscarred.
“In… in that case, should we head to the Demon Realm first?” Tushan Shuo suggested. “As for Fellow Daoist Liu, perhaps she hasn’t truly died. That white cat swallowed her soul, there might be a way to resurrect her if we find a physical vessel.”
Inside Lianyi
Inside Lianyi’s body, Liu Fenyun shielded Sha Lanyi, staring warily at the suddenly appearing Zhuolan Baihua and Danzhu Yangbu.
“Seventh Highness, you really are still here!” Zhuolan Baihua let out a breath of relief, though her smile was bitter. “Unfortunately, we have been devoured by an evil demon and can no longer escort you home.”
“Yiyi is not an evil demon,” Liu Fenyun said coldly. “After the Seventh Highness passed away, she served as the Saintess for four whole years without a single moment of negligence.”
“Hmph, if she isn’t an evil demon, how could she have swallowed the souls of the Seventh Highness and yourself? And why did she swallow Baihua and me?” Danzhu Yangbu sneered. “Any demon who harms and eats humans is an evil demon! You have no idea what happened four years ago; it was because of her that the Kingdom of Zhuhuang lost dozens of exorcists!”
“I’m sorry, who are you talking about?” Sha Lanyi suddenly interjected. “Are you talking about… the little white cat I raised?”
“Your Highness, how can you still be deceived by her!” Zhuolan Baihua said heartbrokenly. “She only approached you to eat your soul and seize your body…”
“No, A-Bai is not that kind of evil demon.” Sha Lanyi shook her head and walked over to stand before Liu Fenyun. “Back then, she mistook my soul for an evil spirit and swallowed it by accident. When my Master led the exorcists to besiege A-Bai, I saw it all, but I had no way to explain to anyone that A-Bai wasn’t what they thought she was.”
“Seventh Highness!”
“I know my people hold many prejudices against the demon race. When I was alive, I tried more than once to ease those biases,” Sha Lanyi sighed. “But in the end, I still couldn’t be of much help.”
She pointed a finger at Zhuolan Baihua and Danzhu Yangbu, and two spheres of light immediately enveloped the two witch doctor envoys.
“Go back. Please appear in my Imperial Father’s dreams and tell him not to make things difficult for A-Bai anymore,” Sha Lanyi murmured. “May the Fire God protect you.”
However, before the orbs of light could carry the envoys away, they were shattered by a sudden white shadow.
“The Fire God will absolutely not protect God slayers.” A woman with snow white hair and grey eyes appeared in the space, her hands clutching the witch doctor envoys. “They have committed the crime of deicide. Though unintentional, it is still unforgivable.”
“Jin Fei!” Liu Fenyun recognized the woman as Si Yangshen (the God Protector) and couldn’t help but shout, “How is Yiyi doing now?”
“Not great. Who told her to swallow a God’s soul?” Jin Fei replied crossly. “But don’t worry, the little leopard and the others are taking her back to the Demon Realm. Qi Niao should have a way to get you… and this Seventh Princess out.”
Without waiting for Liu Fenyun to ask more, she grabbed a witch doctor envoy in each hand and vanished from the space instantly.
“You really are a Great Deity.” After Jin Fei left, Sha Lanyi bowed respectfully to Liu Fenyun again. “I never expected I would actually meet a God after death.”
Liu Fenyun gave a kind-looking smile. Recalling the light orbs Sha Lanyi had just cast, she couldn’t help but ask, “Your Highness can actually send them to the outside?”
Sha Lanyi replied sheepishly, “I don’t know. I had only heard of this secret technique before. I was just so angry earlier that I… gave it a try.”
She paused, then added in a low voice: “It probably didn’t succeed. If it worked, I would have gone to my Imperial Father’s dreams long ago. When I used the secret technique before, I only managed to send myself into A-Bai’s dreams.”
Liu Fenyun was startled, then overjoyed. She quickly pleaded: “Then, could I trouble you to send me into Yiyi’s dreams?”
The kitty must have been scared to death, she had to find a way to go and comfort her.
The Dreamscape
After eating those two witch doctor envoys, Lianyi had fallen into an unconscious state.
A rich fragrance of lotus surrounded her. A massive amount of memories flooded into her sea of consciousness, playing out before her eyes like a revolving lantern.
Lianyi saw Liu Fenyun standing at the end of a long corridor paved with white clouds, waving goodbye to her. Unable to restrain her inner grief and fear, Lianyi chased after her, only to step into a pool of lightning. Her soul was scorched by green thunder, and she plummeted to the lower realm.
Yet, the moment she fell, she was back by Liu Fenyun’s side, held in her arms. Before them floated a large screen showing a particularly big orange cat lying on its back, with four dark, fluffy kittens climbing onto its belly. Many, many lines of text drifted across the screen.
After that, she was taken by Liu Fenyun to see that woman in white.
The woman in white gently stroked her fur. Even through two circular pieces of transparent glass (spectacles), Lianyi could see the smile in the woman’s eyes and hear her say: “Go and face your tribulation in peace. I will take good care of your Yiyi.”
Lianyi now knew that the woman in white was Duanxuan, the God of Fate, one of Liu Fenyun’s few friends in the God Realm. She was quite mischievous, but her nature wasn’t bad.
Lianyi spent a long time absorbing these memories. Finally, they gathered in her sea of consciousness, turning into glowing orbs that she could touch.
“I remember… I remember everything.”
Standing in her sea of consciousness, Lianyi looked at these glowing orbs and couldn’t help but sob. “But you… where have you gone… A-Yun…”
She called out Liu Fenyun’s name over and over again, but received no response.
The sea of consciousness was deathly silent.
Lianyi could feel that Liu Fenyun’s soul was still inside her body and hadn’t left, but she didn’t know where it had gone. She tried to find her through the blood contract mark, only to find the contract had vanished, leaving her with no way to search.
She only knew that Liu Fenyun would not die. Thus, after a long period of despair, she grew calm and reached out to touch a glowing orb near her.
As she watched Liu Fenyun’s figure gradually become clear within the light, Lianyi’s lips curled up in a doting smile.
This is good. At least I can guard all these memories of A-Yun.
In the next second, Liu Fenyun walked out of the orb of light and pulled her into a tight, fierce embrace.
