Marry First, Love Later With The White Cat Princess - Chapter 87
“Then I shall accept most respectfully.” Liu Fenyun was overjoyed. She hurriedly bowed to Yin Sa in thanks. “I am grateful to Senior for sending us on our way. However, there are still injured people in the city who suffered from the demon attacks and need care. Before leaving, I must return to give them some instructions.”
“Very well,” Yin Sa nodded. “A-Shuo and I will wait here for your return, Fellow Daoist.”
Liu Fenyun agreed. Looking down, she saw Lianyi tugging at her sleeve again, clearly intending to follow. She smiled and said, “You should stay here. I don’t want you to be pointed at by those humans again.”
Lianyi was reluctant, but she didn’t want Liu Fenyun to get angry on her behalf. Pursing her lips, she finally let go and whispered, “Then go and come back quickly. You aren’t allowed to stay long.”
Meng Nie guessed she was worried about Liu Fenyun being detained, so she stepped forward and said, “Don’t worry, I’ll accompany Physician Ran.”
Liu Fenyun nodded to her, packed her medical kit, and left the nest with her, taking a shortcut back to the city.
After the two had completely left the Yellow Leaf Hills, two people suddenly appeared outside Yin Sa’s nest, a man and a woman. Both appeared to be in their twenties and were of the Di tribe.
“The Great Priest’s Gu is indeed reliable; it hasn’t lost the Saintess once along the way.” The woman looked at the small, sealed transparent box in her palm, her beautiful eyes smiling. “Let’s go. If we resolve this matter before they enter the Demon Realm, we won’t fail the Sovereign’s expectations.”
This pair was none other than the Witch Doctor Envoys of the previous generation, Zhuolan Baihua and Danzhu Yangbu. Their true ages were close to seventy, but by practicing their family’s secret arts, they managed to maintain their youthful appearances.
Shortly after Liu Fenyun’s group left the Candle Flame Kingdom, the two of them took the Gu that Luo Binglun had placed on Lianyi years ago to monitor her whereabouts. They followed the Sovereign’s orders, waiting for a moment when Liu Fenyun was absent to kill Lianyi and bring back the body of the Seventh Princess, Sha Lanyi.
Danzhu Yangbu, however, remarked, “The aura on that woman surnamed Liu is extraordinary. According to the beast tamers, she seems to have some connection to the Upper Realm. We must hurry. Kill the cat demon as quickly as possible and avoid a confrontation with her.”
Zhuolan Baihua smiled and agreed. She tucked away the small box containing the Gu and was the first to enter the nest.
This monitoring Gu had indeed been placed on Lianyi by Luo Binglun four years ago to prevent her from harming the city’s residents. But since Lianyi never had any evil intentions and stayed law-abiding for four years, Luo Binglun had hidden the Gu and ceased using it.
However, after she left the Candle Flame Kingdom, the Gu was found and delivered to these two Witch-Doctor Envoys, who were loyal to the Sovereign and harbored a deep-seated hatred for the demon race.
The Saintess was an important official of the Candle Flame Kingdom and responsible for sacrifices. Executing her within the country was not a wise move. Even though the Sovereign hated demons, he had allowed Lianyi to continue living after she possessed his beloved daughter’s body.
But now that Lianyi had completely left the borders of the Candle Flame Kingdom, even if she died, there was a sufficient excuse to explain it to the believers back home and use the opportunity to select a new Saintess.
Zhuolan Baihua and Danzhu Yangbu hid their presence perfectly. It wasn’t until they were less than ten steps away from Lianyi that Tushan Shuo suddenly caught a strange scent of killing intent and cried out, “Humans!?”
Animal instinct drove her to immediately throw a ball of fire toward the source of the intent. However, before the fire could reach the two envoys, it was swatted away by the ritual ruler in Danzhu Yangbu’s hand.
Sensing the ill intent, Yin Sa furrowed his brow, pulling Tushan Shuo behind him for protection. He asked in a heavy voice, “Your auras… are you of the Di tribe?”
“We have come to execute the demon evil that plagues the nation.” Zhuolan Baihua summoned a ritual sword, pointing it at Lianyi. “Unrelated demons, step aside quickly. If you dare to interfere, you shall be executed together!”
Never expecting these two to be coming for her, Lianyi’s gaze changed instantly. So, the Candle Flame Kingdom still refused to let her go.
She wasn’t one to waste words with demon hunters sent to kill her. Just as she struck an offensive pose, Qi Ran suddenly said, “Are you the previous generation’s Witch-Doctor Envoys?”
“And what if we are?” Recognized, Zhuolan Baihua admitted it freely, smiling. “We are not like Sangjia Cuxiao. We won’t show mercy to this cat demon just because she is the current Witch Doctor’s wife.”
“She is still the Saintess of the Candle Flame Kingdom!” Qi Ran sneered. “She has never done anything to betray the kingdom. Even the Sovereign didn’t plan to deal with her, yet you two…”
“Say no more,” Lianyi interrupted. “Envoys Zhuolan Baihua and Danzhu Yangbu hate demons, but they aren’t the type to meddle in others’ business. It’s likely the Sovereign sent them to kill me.”
Yin Sa had no intention of standing idly by. Two sharp swords materialized in his hands. He said to Lianyi, “The teleportation array is deep inside. Take A-Shuo and teleport away immediately!”
“No! I’ll stay and block them with you!” Tushan Shuo refused. With a soft shout, she raised her hand, and several long, thin red silk ribbons flew from her sleeves, attacking Zhuolan Baihua.
Though the envoys’ target was Lianyi, they would show no mercy to any demons blocking their path.
Danzhu Yangbu rapidly chanted an incantation. He swung his pitch-black ritual ruler, slicing through the demon energy infused red silks. With a flick in mid-air, the shredded silks immediately transformed into sharp dart-like shapes, reversing direction to strike at Tushan Shuo.
Zhuolan Baihua took advantage of Yin Sa protecting Tushan Shuo to use her movement technique and bypass them. Using the stalagmites in the nest for cover, she closed in on Lianyi. Her demon-slaying sword instantly gathered spiritual energy, and with a swing, she sliced down a stalactite from the ceiling to restrict Lianyi and Qi Ran’s movement before thrusting her sword.
Lianyi still had the feather shield left by Yu Qingyue, which could block a full strength strike from a Golden Core stage demon or cultivator. Relying on the shield’s protection, she took the hit from the falling stalactite and fled toward the outside of the cave without looking back.
She was unwilling to leave alone. Moreover, even if she did, these two envoys could likely track her down. She could roughly guess how they found this place.
Today, it was either her death or the end of these two envoys.
Liu Fenyun had just entered the city through the White Tiger Gate when she felt the mark behind her ear grow scalding hot.
The kitty is in danger?!
She was shocked. She touched the mark, trying to sense through the system, but could perceive nothing. Her brow furrowed deeply.
“What’s wrong?” Meng Nie asked, seeing her face turn cold.
“Tell Guard Lin Jingfeng for me not to move the injured people recklessly. When treating…” Liu Fenyun hurriedly finished her instructions, stuffed the passage token into Meng Nie’s hand, and turned back. “I have to go save someone.”
Before Meng Nie could react, she instinctively chased after her. “Hey?! Then I…”
“Please deliver the message for me!” Liu Fenyun didn’t look back.
Once out of the White Tiger Gate, she immediately summoned the Cloud Gazing Steed from the medicine garden space and galloped toward the Yellow Leaf Hills.
“Can you check Lianyi’s current situation?” Liu Fenyun asked the system.
The system replied: “No. There is a natural barrier. The host must reach the range of the Yellow Leaf Hills first.”
“How could she be in danger?!” Liu Fenyun was baffled. “Could it be Qi Ran betraying us again? After all… Si Yangshen wouldn’t care about the affairs of mortal demons…”
“Host, stay calm. Just keep moving,” the system comforted her. “Yin Sa and Tushan Shuo are non-hostile characters. If Qi Ran attacked, they would protect Lianyi. Besides, Qi Ran is much stronger than you all, there’s no reason to strike now.”
Liu Fenyun could only pin her hopes on Yin Sa and Tushan Shuo.
However, when she reached the foot of the Yellow Leaf Hills and saw that the two “Red Name” hostile characters besieging Lianyi were humans, the anger she had just suppressed erupted.
These demon hunters! They didn’t come early or late, but chose this exact moment to meddle!
She was so furious she directly put away the Cloud Gazing Steed. She transformed her limbs into demon form and, clutching a short blade infused with demon energy, charged up the mountain.
“Host, the combat power of those two red name characters is not low,” the system reminded her. “Do not be impulsive.”
Liu Fenyun gripped the short blade and kept her head down, rushing forward.
She soon reached the top and saw the demon hunters attacking Lianyi, they were dressed as Di people. Now that Liu Fenyun’s body was demonized, her senses were sharper. She found the auras of these two very familiar but couldn’t quite remember where she had smelled them.
The system, however, identified them: “Host, they are Witch Doctor Envoys of the same status as Sangjia Cuxiao. The woman is Zhuolan Baihua, and the man is Danzhu Yangbu.”
Learning their identities, Liu Fenyun was shocked. “The Candle Flame Kingdom is so far from here. How did they find us?!”
“We’ll have to ask them after catching them,” even the system sighed. “But Host, none of you are likely their match.”
At this point, the four demons at the Yellow Leaf Hills had revealed their original forms and were locked in a fierce struggle with the two envoys.
Lianyi was hindered by her weak human body and was gradually falling behind in the battle, doing her best to dodge. Yin Sa, Tushan Shuo, and Qi Ran were not weak, yet even working together, they could only barely fight the envoys to a draw, and their bodies were covered in deep, bone-deep wounds.
Liu Fenyun saw that the envoys’ target was Lianyi. Without a word, she hurled her short blade toward Zhuolan Baihua’s back.
With a sharp clink, Danzhu Yangbu flicked his ritual ruler, knocking the blade to the ground. He looked up and met Liu Fenyun’s icy gaze, also startled. Before he could speak, a sharp white cat claw lashed out at his face.
Liu Fenyun had already guessed their purpose. She showed no mercy. Danzhu Yangbu swung his ruler several times to block, catching Liu Fenyun’s claws. A trace of disappointment appeared in his eyes as he said heavily, “Lord Witch Doctor, you should not side with demons.”
Increasing the pressure on his ruler, Liu Fenyun said coldly, “Just because she is a demon, you want to kill her? Do you not care at all about what she has done for the Candle Flame Kingdom?”
“Apologies. This is an order, and it is our duty.” Danzhu Yangbu dropped those words and quickly backed away, standing beside Zhuolan Baihua.
“Oh, Lord Witch Doctor returned quite quickly.” Zhuolan Baihua held her demon-slaying sword horizontally. Her voice was steady and still contained a hint of a smile. “To be honest, we are here today to kill demons. Even if you intervene personally, we will not stay our hands.”
“A-Yun!” Lianyi didn’t expect her to return so fast and couldn’t help but cry out. “They were sent by the Sovereign to kill me. You can’t reason with them. Come over here!”
Liu Fenyun shook her head, standing in front of the four demons. Suppressing her fury, she said, “If you truly want to kill her, you’ll have to kill me first.”
