Marry First, Love Later With The White Cat Princess - Chapter 81
After fully waking from her dream, Lian Yi obediently took the hot soup and drank half a bowl. Recalling the vision, she said, “I just dreamed of things from my childhood.”
Liu Fenyun gave an instinctive “Mm,” but it took a moment for the realization to hit her. She was both surprised and delighted. “You’ve recovered your memories?!”
She remembered that she, too, had regained her memories through dreaming though in her case, it was her medical knowledge, which was slightly different from Lian Yi’s experience.
Lian Yi didn’t answer immediately. After finishing the soup, she asked with a smile, “Our memories should have a lot of overlap. Do you want to see my dream, A-Yun?”
She had already confirmed that once she woke up, the dream merged with her actual memories, these were clearly the past pieces she had forgotten.
Liu Fenyun naturally did not refuse. Setting aside the soup bowl, she set up an isolation barrier and touched her forehead against Lian Yi’s.
Through Lian Yi’s perspective, she saw a version of herself she didn’t recognize.
In Lian Yi’s dream, she didn’t live in the God Realm. She seemed to be in a stage where she hadn’t yet ascended but was close to it, staying temporarily in a world similar to a modern metropolis.
She had rescued a dying, young Lian Yi from a vegetable market and brought her back to her residence to care for her meticulously. From then on, a little cutie was added to her monotonous research life.
Lian Yi, like most cats, was a homebody who refused to go out, yet had a massive appetite. Liu Fenyun bought her many toys, scratching posts, and cat trees, fearing that Lian Yi would become a fat cat and affect her health.
Finishing the dream, Liu Fenyun opened her eyes and gently rubbed Lian Yi’s hair.
She finally understood why, even after losing her own memories, she instinctively trusted and pampered Lian Yi. The cat had been raised by her own hands; they had almost never been apart. She was too familiar with her habits and temper, she couldn’t even bring herself to scold her.
Lian Yi shrank her neck, quickly gave Liu Fenyun’s wrist a playful nip, and grumbled, “I’m not a kitten anymore, don’t rub me like that!” Then, she wrapped her arms around Liu Fenyun, leaning into her chest and asking expectantly, “Does A-Yun have anything she wants to say to me?”
Liu Fenyun thought for a moment, but what came out was guilt: “I’m sorry. It was I who made you suffer.”
Lian Yi might not have noticed while dreaming, but Liu Fenyun had.
Back then, she had intentionally infused spiritual energy into Lian Yi’s water and food from the very beginning, and held her in her arms while sleeping. Although this memory didn’t show what happened ten years later, Liu Fenyun could guess her own intentions.
Lian Yi was originally just a cat, not even a demon. If she hadn’t done those things, she wouldn’t have been able to take Lian Yi with her when she ascended ten years later. A normal cat’s lifespan is only ten to twenty years. Lian Yi had effectively spent one lifetime with her and then “luckily” gained an eternal lifespan.
If not for her initial whim, the cat wouldn’t be caught up in these trials now. It was she who made Lian Yi a demon, and she who made Lian Yi spend such a long time with only her for company.
No wonder the cat turned into a possessive yandere after being separated and reunited, refusing to let anyone else share Liu Fenyun’s attention.
Startled by the sudden apology, Lian Yi paused, then bumped her head hard against Liu Fenyun, forcefully steering the topic back to what she wanted to hear: “What nonsense are you talking about? At least praise me for being cute!”
Liu Fenyun blinked, then pulled the cat demon closer into her arms, smiling. “Yiyi has always been cute.”
Lian Yi flashed a happy smile, but her brow soon furrowed as she said softly, “My stomach hurts again…”
Menstruation was truly a miserable affair for both humans and cats. Liu Fenyun busied herself massaging her stomach, stopping only when the cat said she was sleepy and wanted to drift off.
Tensions and Misunderstandings
When Liu Fenyun left the tree hollow, she ran into Meng Nie and Qi Ran returning with wild vegetables.
Si Yang (The God of Husbandry), Jin Fei, disliked “mortal” demons, so the ancient ruins she manifested contained no edible birds or beasts only fish and shrimp. While Liu Fenyun’s trio fared fine, Meng Nie couldn’t stand having fish soup for every meal.
Meng Nie was still arguing with Qi Ran about the possibility of women having children together. Qi Ran was so annoyed she wished she could go back in time and shut her own mouth. As a disciple of a Poison Doctor, she knew it could be achieved through magic, but it was out of reach for ordinary people.
“Why are you always obsessed with this?” Qi Ran asked, exasperated. “Can’t you just focus on studying how to kill enemies?”
“I’m different from you demons!” Meng Nie shouted. “I’m a woman. If my family forces me to marry and have kids, how can I focus on fighting!”
Qi Ran curled her lip. “You could just not marry. Or run away.”
“You don’t understand how much big families value bloodline continuation!” Meng Nie sighed. “I don’t hate children, but I hate men, and I especially hate being… by a man…”
She spotted Liu Fenyun exiting the cat nest and immediately shut up, heading to the river to wash the vegetables in silence.
Liu Fenyun met Qi Ran’s dark expression and asked, “Are you two fighting again?”
“I don’t fight with human brats,” Qi Ran huffed. Then, changing the subject: “When will that cat be done with her period?”
Liu Fenyun noted her impatience. “Yiyi’s health isn’t great. It will be at least three more days before we can set out.”
Qi Ran was disappointed. Ever since seeing the White Lion, she wanted to leave. She thought Yu Qingyue would take her away, but that “bird person” had actually left her with Liu Fenyun to run off with her lover!
“Are you in a hurry to go somewhere?” Liu Fenyun asked.
“Kongmeng City in the Demon Realm,” Qi Ran said gloomily. “Don’t look at me like that. I’ve decided to cut ties with all human forces. I just want to go back and see my Master.”
She paused, glanced at Meng Nie, and leaned in close to Liu Fenyun. “I’ll tell you the truth: there is an aura here that makes me very uncomfortable. The owner of that aura feels like a high and mighty noble…”
Liu Fenyun noticed that Qi Ran’s eyes held fear, not hatred. Knowing the guardian of the ruins was indeed a proud God, Liu Fenyun told her the truth: “Don’t be afraid. This is a rest area provided by the God of Husbandry. Her true form is a demon, so it’s normal if you feel uneasy.”
She didn’t expect Qi Ran’s face to go even paler.
“What… what kind of God did you say she was?” Qi Ran stammered, thinking of the White Lion.
“The God of Husbandry (Si Yang Shen),” Liu Fenyun repeated, explaining that she was a gentle God in charge of planting and raising demon beasts.
Qi Ran relaxed slightly, thinking it must be a different God. “Since she’s a demon, what is her true form? A rabbit? A sheep?”
Liu Fenyun replied, “A White Lion.”
The words “White Lion” were like a thunderbolt. Qi Ran froze, then collapsed to the ground, curling into a ball and shivering uncontrollably. She remembered the lion saying, “To disrespect a God is a capital offense.” The lion had spared her once for her Master’s sake, what about now?
Liu Fenyun was baffled and checked her pulse, finding she was just paralyzed by shock. “Did you… offend the God of Husbandry?”
Qi Ran didn’t say a word.
The Unexpected Deity
Meng Nie returned with the vegetables, saw Qi Ran on the ground, and casually threw her over her shoulder to carry her to a hammock. “If you’re tired, sleep there. Don’t lie on the ground, there are bugs.”
As she was tossed onto the hammock, Qi Ran grabbed Meng Nie’s sleeve. “What guardian god does your family serve?”
“The God of Husbandry,” Meng Nie said, startled. “Why? Are you a believer too?”
“It’s really not the God of War?!” Qi Ran’s eyes widened.
“No!” Meng Nie shook her head. “During the descent ceremony, the God personally confirmed she is the God of Husbandry. Though I don’t know why a military family would get a husbandry deity, as long as it’s a benevolent God, it’s fine.”
Qi Ran couldn’t wrap her head around it. That big White Lion was violent, full of murderous intent, and looked majestic enough to be a God of War. Who would have thought she was in charge of logistics?
“So, do you want to follow the God of Husbandry too?” Meng Nie asked. “Her protection is very effective. I come back safe from every battle.”
Qi Ran forced a smile. “Forget it. A bad seed like me would only embarrass a benevolent God.”
Qi Ran eventually fell asleep and entered a dream. She found herself in a desolate, icy-blue palace. Standing atop the stairs was a woman with white hair and grey eyes, looking down at her with a gaze identical to the White Lion’s.
“So, you have the intention to become my believer?” The woman’s lazy voice drifted down.
Qi Ran shuddered. She was finished.
